Hot digity these prices are cheaper than the prices in Chinatown (Manhattan).

However - buyer-beware.  This is a low-down old school supermarket.  While the cashiers inside have a digital scanner, in the traditions of (frugal) Chinese people who considers it a sin to waste food - you may find fruits and vegetables that are too ripe to eat bordering on its way to rotten.  At first glance - 39 cents/ lb for broccoli seemed like a steal until I got a closer look and noticed how yellow they were turning.

Also, while the prices are cheap I'm sure there's some sort of health code violation or something to have exposed meat (chicken) simply lying there at waist level.  Just notice the flies buzzing about could be enough to make anyone squimish walk away or not to come back.

That said, I'm still giving 4 stars cuz the prices and free parking is da-bomb.  Just check the expiration date before you check out and the fruit/ veggies you buy outside is good.

Note: fourth star is there just for the free parking.

If you've been to a Chinese supermarket before, you pretty much know what to expect with Hong Kong Supermarket.  I prefer it to the ones in Manhattan because Sunset Park is a lot more laid-back than Canal Street, and the ones in Queens because that's just too far away for casual shopping.

They get points for their selection (half an aisle dedicated just for ramen) and prices (as good as the street vendors along 8th Avenue), but the quality of their produce can be a little iffy at times--of course, you can decide for yourself just how iffy.  Some awesome finds include:

Fancypants Korean ramen (baked, not fried) for 99 cents;
Baby bok choy for something like a buck per pound;
A bag of shallots for what came out to about two bucks a pound (though not the freshest shallots you'll see); and
Frozen veggie dumplings at six for $1.50.

It's cheap and you can fill your fridge for a week for about twenty bucks, as long as you check to avoid the rotten and moldy foods.  The soy milk sold here goes rotten pretty quickly, which I find disturbing, considering that fresh soy milk from tofu specialty shops last longer.  I prefer going to the smaller markets along 8th Ave.

I love visiting the ethnic foods sections in big-chain supermarkets whenever I get the chance. It's even better when I come to an authentic one in an authentic neighborhood.

Even though I'm Chinese, most of these foods, novelty items, and knick-knacks rest within the periphery of what I'm familiar with. It's like a museum! And even better when you're with someone special. I usually like going to these places with my Russian BFF, gawking at the cool stuff and low prices.

I used to go grocery shopping here and other neighboring grocery places with my aunt and uncle when I was younger on Friday afternoons with the car. Cheap prices and fresh foods are hard to beat. My favorite acquisitions were the Red Bean or Green Bean popsicle bars.

This store has a nice variety of DIFFERENT asian foods, not just chinese.  I was able to find thai staple ingredients and a larger amount of malay and filipino products as well.

Prices are generally cheaper than nearby large chinese supermarkets, but they all compete making for cheap and interesting specials.

They do offer a parking lot for those who drive.  For train riders it is steps from the N train 8th ave stop. There are also 2 buses that stop within a block of here.

EDIT REVIEW:

Let's just say this, what a very poor experience!

I originally gave this place a 4 out of 5, but now it dropped down to 1 out of 5.

One this place is a trick, especially the second cashier to the right, she is a FOB from China, has no experience of speaking English, and ended up charging my friend by $8 extra. So apparently you can't rely on the honesty of a supermarket.

There is a new Supermarket several blocks down, I am going to probably move down to that new supermarket.

Also kinda disappointed by their current loss of variety in some deserts, to the more synthetic processed deserts. Isn't that a bad thing. Wished that I a lot of my favorite snacks are still around..

Yay! I'm a fan!!!
I love this supermarket because I could find almost everything I want for my Chinese appetite~~ Even if I have to take Q and then transfer to N, spending about an hour to get to this Shopping Heaven~

Where else can you go, pick up a few things, and walk out with a chintzy old-skool receipt showing, in faded purple text, that you've spend $1.13.  Granted, those things would be a potato, a carrot, some other veggies, maybe some ground pork, etc., but STILL... the veggies and meats are really cheap.  And should you want a live frog (or are they toads?  I don't know.), they've got you covered on that one too.  More stars aren't flowing their way for a couple of reasons: (1) too many insects, and (2) how abusively they overload you when you order something by the pound.  When I say a half pound of ground meat, I don't mean 4/5 of a pound.  Anyway, it is what it is.  Shop wisely, and you'll leave with lots of good stuff for cheap.

I was completely unaware, but there happens to be a chinatown in Brooklyn out in Sunset Park. I discovered it online as I was trying to find Pandan Leaf somewhere in NY. This is after I searched Chinatown in Manhattan with no luck.

The Hong Kong Supermarket has just about anything you'd be looking for from an asian market. Pre-packaged food, sauces fresh meet, etc. The also have Pandan leaf a very hard to come by leaf that is excellent in tea and rice.

For those of you with cars, they have parking available for customers.

A little hard to find what you need, but if you drum up the courage to ask, an employee will be happy to help you. I found everything I needed, and a few boxes of candy that I really DIDN'T need. The place smells a bit strong, but there's a whole aisle of dried seafood so that is to be expected.

All in all, cool place to find asian food products. They have a huge selection. I will definitely be back!

Haven't gone here for a while, but when I used to come, always did my grocery shopping here. I love getting snacks and treats such as pocky, mochi and what not. Back then, I came here often with a few friends for cold snacks in the summer. They used to have a lot of ice cream choices but now they cut it down, especially the mochi options. Other than that this place is pretty convenient, parking lot and you can get all your groceries down from your fish to your pork and your rice to your veggies, they've got everything. They also have kitchenware such as pots and utensils. And that's where they earned the extra star.

This is a great Asian supermarket. They've got lots of seafood and meat products that you won't typically find at other grocery stores. Their selection of other Asian goods is also as good as I've seen anywhere else in the city. Most importantly, they have a whole aisle of Asian snacks that go beyond the typical Pocky that you can find just about anywhere.

Hey screw all the cutesy bullshit like finding Pocky or other Asian goodies. What makes this place rock is that they have an aisle for Godly tributes. Enuff said ;)

Like Eric I was also unaware of the Brooklyn Chinatown until recently.  I recently took a field trip to Brooklyn Chinatown, whose main drag is from 42nd Street to 62nd Street on 8th Avenue.  I came across this gigantic grocery store of all Asian food products.  It was amazing and cheap!!  I picked up a chicken seasoning packet and firm spiced tofu.  If you love to cook and are looking for a hard to find product - this is your place.  Even if you don't cook, it's fun to walk through this place.

Even when it was the only show in town (in terms of large Chinese supermarkets in Brooklyn) I really didnt like HK Supermarket. It's supercramped, messy (both the market and the parking lot), and didn't offer a lot of variety, IMO and it was overpriced, especially since there were plenty to choose from all along 8th avenue. Especially compared to the newer GreatWall, HK Supermarket is very so-so.

As a Brooklyn native (very familiar with Sunset Park area), I've been coming to this supermarket for quite some time. The prices are fair and the selection is decent. The fruit section seems to be a bit lacking, which is why this review gets a 4. Nice array of Asian snacks and packaged foods. Also, they seem to be the only supermarket that carry Smuckers PB & Strawberry Jelly!! YUM!!
