Pretty good dim sum, but the taro buns were the definite stand out. They aren't available in the carts so flag down the waiter carrying the trays of them.
As a warning, be prepared to sprint and elbow your way against older pushy Chinese ladies to put your name down during busy weekends. -

On our visit to California, my cousins took me here twice within one week.
The first time:
There was no wait, food were serve promptly. I enjoyed my meal and it was great. Food was pretty decent, certain food I never tried before but it was still great.
The second time:
Had to wait 15 minutes, but still had the same satisfying experience.
The price is definitely on the heavier side. -

3.5 stars.
I am not big on dim sum, but this was pretty decent.
Radish cakes - passable even though I don't like radish.
BBQ pork buns (cha shao bao) - delicious. Pork was tender, flavor was good, bun was fluffy and soft.
Ma tuan - red bean was good but outside was kind of oily and bland.
Chinese broccoli (gai lan) - this was very good! The sauce wasn't overdone and it wasn't too oily either.
Some sort of bundled noodle - lacked flavor except for the oil and the mildly spicy kick at the end.
Taro buns - took ages to get them but I think it was worth it. Slightly crispy on the outside; warm, soft and savory taro on the inside. You will most likely have to flag someone down to place a direct order, unfortunately.
We got seated quickly for our party of 10 at 11:05, but there were a ton of people waiting after we left. Cost was very affordable - $13 per person before tip, and we ordered a ton of food because of the males with voracious appetites in our group. -

The lady at the cashier is such a b*tch, she is so mean! but even though she is such a b*tch, it doesn't stop me from coming here. Every time i come to Sunnyvale to pick up my niece or visit my sister, niece and nephews, i always have to stop here to order the famous hunan chicken with rice and extra ginger sauce. So some odd reason, they make the best! I live closer to the richmond location but that one is wack! this place makes it much tastier!

I was surprised to see such a huge crowd here for lunch. The hostess was telling everyone 20 minutes..we waited about 45, but it was worth it. The usual favorites were on the table (a lot of shrimp) and devoured in less than 20 minutes. The service was fast and friendly. I've been trying to find a good dim sum place for a while, this is on the top of my list!

The dim sum here is pretty good and is reasonably priced.
But I must say, the taro buns definitely steal the show! After watching servers get attacked (not literally) by customers when bringing out a fresh tray of taro buns, I learned the easiest way to get them is to simply order it instead! Haha. We did this and received a plate once the next batch came out. Fresh out of the oven, they are warm and flaky, and soft, and ahhh .. just heaven!
As for the other food, I really like the calamari and shrimp dumplings.
They get pretty busy, so I would come early to beat the crowd. Dinner is also good and cheap here, but I prefer coming here for dim sum. -

This area of the South Bay is seriously lacking in good dim sum. If time allows we usually head over to Cupertino or Milpitas. However, when we want to eat nearby, we come here.
This place gets really crowded at lunch time so it's best to show before or after the lunch rush. A table off the main aisle is best to catch the carts as they roll by with hot and steaming dumplings. Personally, think they need more carts during the lunch rush, as they only had three on my last visit. They should have 5 or 6 to handle all the hungry customers that need to get back to work. If the wait gets to be too long, we've asked our waiter to pull dishes for us or we've ordered directly from him.
The food is pretty good, with some dishes being better than others. On my last visit the sticky rice wrapped in a lotus leaf was overcooked, leaving the rice really mushy. There is always a good mix of fried vs. steamed options and congee, noodles and rice dishes. The items offered are those the appeal to the general masses, so you aren't like to find the items deemed to be "odd". The staff here seem to speak a mixture of English Cantonese and Mandarin. -
Review from Edison T.
A little conflicted about writing this review. It's like my inner Asian side wants to give this place 5 stars for having the best value on dim sum vs. my American side where I expect at least some level of service.
The dim sum is good, however most of the typical stable dim sum dishes like the shrimp rice rolls rarely come around and you usually have to order it through one of the servers. For the price, you can't beat HKSSHR??? Damn that was a long abbriviation. Even with a family of 4 and feeding my fat ass ordering two of every dish just for myself, we never drop over 50 bucks.
However, I know people don't usually come to Asian restaurants for the service but come on, at least be somewhat nice to us. It's pretty much impossible to get good service unless you speak Chinese, and you would think after we tell a person 5 times that we don't speak Chinese that they would stop talking to us in Chinese. This place gets packed so I feel like since they have the business they could care less about proper manners. Today we went on Christmas and the guy who took us to our table just threw the little tally paper at us. I set on the outside of the table by the aisle and apparently Asians can't operate food carts either because they kept hitting into me repeatedly when there was enough space for them to avoid me!
Oh well, all in all good food, good price, horrendous service, so that all evens out to about a 3 star place. -

I came here for a family luncheon.
My goodness it is loud in here.
Dim sum was average.
We ordered from the regular carts
and order lobster noodle, a whole lobster cut on top of noodles, roasted duck, a little bit salty but meaty, yellow skin chicken, not tasty at all.
Not impressed at all, don't know why the line is so long. -

Way too crowded and not enough dim sum items to pick from. I'm not sure why this place is always crowded and has a super long waiting list because the dim sum here is not even comparable to ABC.
Minus another star for not having shrimp balls on weekdays. Seriously?
Come super early like at 11AM if you have a group for more than 4 people. My seat was also dirty too so that didn't help -__- -
Review from Emily C.
Like many Chinese restaurants, Hong Kong Saigon will not win any awards for decor, cleanliness, or appearances - but despite the ugly fish paintings on the walls, the clutter all around the restaurant (one table was being used as storage for menus and takeout orders while the counters and bar just looked like a mess), the ugly tiles and lack of ambiance, Hong Kong Saigon has been one of the better Chinese restaurants I have been to in a while.
My family came for dinner on a weekday. If you're looking for ultra-cheap Chinesei food, this is not the place. However, their dishes were tasty, albeit oily (but what Chinese food isn't?), and service was acceptable. I really liked their Chinese broccoli, which was really flavorful with ginger, garlic, and wine. We also ordered a clay pot with tofu, pork, and fish. The tofu was delicious and tender, and the pork added really good flavor (probably because it was huge fatty bacon chunks). The shrimp with walnuts was typical, but lighter on the mayo than a lot of other places, which was more to my taste. The tender beef with XO sauce was cooked well too, with plentiful mushrooms that hadn't shrunk with overcooking. Overall, a nice, Chinese meal. -

I love coming here with my family. I can only describe it as a typical dim sum experience, only the prices are better than Joy Luck Palace with good quality food, too! Not the cleanest, and the ladies with the carts are sometimes intimidating because they're so busy, but that's exactly what I expected.
Admittedly, I've only come here on weekends at lunch, so they had pretty much all of the typical dishes that I look for in a dim sum place! Plus, there are separate menus where you can order rice porridge, chow mein, bigger dishes, etc. And for a dim sum establishment, the employees are surprisingly obliging and helpful! I was personally really looking forward to the shrimp dumplings, which were of course in high demand and ran out whenever we asked for them. We asked one lady, who yelled across the entire restaurant to ask another lady, and went and grabbed two baskets for us. This would be pretty standard service for any American restaurant, but I was pleasantly surprised that asian ladies were being so helpful.
With a party of around 8 people, we got to try a lot of different dishes for a very reasonable amount of money. This place gets really busy during lunch on weekends, so come early or eat late to avoid the wait! -
Review from Megan L.
Get the taro buns (xue shan bao = "snow mountain bun"). Subtly sweet, filled with smooth taro paste, slightly crispy on the outside, and the whole thing is so freshly baked and warm that it melts in your mouth.
You have to get out of your seat and fight for a plate of these. I saw a waitress walk out of the kitchen with the first batch and she was immediately swarmed by old Chinese customers and the entire tray was gone in 30 seconds. My parents say the first buns come out around 11am, but the restaurant is already full by then, so it's best to get seated before 10:30 and then pace yourself until you can get the buns.
The other dim sum stuff was just ok, I've had better. -

Dim sum here is amazing. The selection and preparation are hard to beat. You'll have your staples like bbq pork buns and egg custard in all a plenty that are well executed. I would however stay away from the chicken feet here, the preparation of the feet makes it taste bland.
That being said, the wait for a table on a typical weekend lunch can be long ~30+ minutes. Even with to-go you're liable to wait the same amount of time. Be prepared to wait for goodness -

This was a nifty experience. We went for lunch and enjoyed about 6 different Dim Sum items. This would be a really cool place for a group of 4 or 6 people. We only had two in our group, so we didn't order a huge variety. I was with my boss who is from Hong Kong originally. The most memorable item was the fried Chicken Feet. I know this is a little awkward because you basicaly just put the foot or toes as the case may be in your mouth and massage the meat off the knuckles and then spit out the knuckles. However, the flavor was pretty good. The other items we enjoyed were shrimp and pork based dumpling a mixture of fried and steamed. The only thing I didn't care for was the rice noodle dumplings, but this was mainly due to the slimy texture more than the actual flavor. All in all I will definately return and the two of us spent about 35 bucks. The black tea was really good too.
Another cool feature is the live fish, crab, and lobster which they have in free flowing saltwater tanks in the far wall of the restuarant. It doesn't get fresher than live. The crab was running 6.99 a pound. I will have the try this next time. -

So torn on this place.
Let's start with the good stuff. They have the best dim sum in this area. It's the first place I ask to go to when my parents want to go out for lunch when I'm visiting home. Their shumai and beef balls are the best I've had anywhere. My most favorite thing about this place is the sweet taro buns (my mom translates their name in English as "snowy mountain buns"). I mean, people RUSH the waiters as these buns come out of the kitchen and fight for plates of them. These things are awesome, and I've never seen them at any other dim sum place.
On the con side: I think about a third of the times of been here, the bathroom isn't working. Or it's so incredibly dirty that it might as well be out of order. And they don't put up a sign or anything to let you know, so you just walk in and it's really not so appetizing to see a filthy bathroom. I will say that the chances of everything being clean seem higher on the weekends when they get a ton of business all day long.
So the three stars is an average - 5 stars when it's clean, and 1 star when it's not. -

Dim sum has gone downhill since my first visit over 3 years ago. We ordered the usual suspects and they all tasted very average. Gotta find a new dim sum place stat! However I must say their taro bun (order and eat them while they are still warm) were delicious. The bun is similar to that of the pineapple bun, and it is filled with creamy taro. Pineapple bun is still my favorite. Too bad they didn't have any.

I've been here a few times and it's pretty much crowded every time. So if you want to get something to eat before you pass out or lose your patience, come early, like right when they open.
The food here, mostly dim sum, Cantonese style, is really nothing special. The only thing I highly recommend is the white porridge with dried scallop (I don't know what it's called but it's one of the last ones listed on the menu.) The red bean pudding is pretty good for dessert since it's not too sweet and the red beans add a great texture to the semi-firm pudding. Don't get their house-special seafood rice thingy, it's sooooooooo bad (rice is too hard, seafood is tasteless, yuck).
It's pretty cheap, around $12-15 if you have more than 4 people to get really full. But the service is lacking because everyone is always running around for no apparent reason. Honestly, I feel rushed when I eat here and it's not the best feeling to have when you want to enjoy your food. -

I really wanted to give this place 4 stars, but there were a couple of factors why it got a 3.
First, the good. The food was great, definitely 4 stars and one of the better places in the Southbay. The Dim sum was hot and tasted fresh.
The not so good. They did not bring out the good stuff until 40 mins after we started our meal, i.e. the must haves like Ha Gow and Siu Mai. What dim sum place runs out of the basics for over half and hour??? Another minus was we had to wait 35 mins outside in the cold for a table.
Overall, this place is a good choice to get quality dim sum, though be prepared to wait! -

This is a review for their Chinese New Year dinner, not dim sum.
We came here for CNY dinner 2 years ago. All I remembered was that the restaurant was packed. So packed it was difficult to make your way through the restaurant, which really is a fire safety issue.
We ordered lots of seafood and some meat dishes and they were o.k. - not impressive. The entire experience felt like a rushed, mass production. I also recalled our waiters were not very attentive.
I may come and try their dim sum, but have not been back since for another CNY experience. -

3.5 stars.
Dim sum here is pretty good, but despite how big it is, this place gets super packed!! This and Newport are my 2 favorite dim sum places in the South Bay. A good place to come, but you gotta get here early if you're going to be able to sit down at all. :)
Not as good as the dim sum I've had in Monterey Park or SF, but still pretty good considering. -

By far one of the best dim sum places I have ever been to. First off, the place is extremely clean: that is a huge plus, especially since many dim sum places I"ve been to aren't very clean.
Secondly, the mango pudding and the crab meat balls (I don't know what the formal name for them are) are beyond delicious! By far the best mango pudding I have ever had.
They had good service, even throughout rush hour-- I went on a Sunday morning, so the amount of people there was amazing. They handled it well. It did get crowded, but that's how you know the restaurant is good. I definitely recommend this for dim sum! -

Occasion: Lunch with Mom
What I Had:
Shrimp dimsum
BBQ pork buns
Taro buns
Shumai dimsum
Shrimp rice rolls
Sesame ball dessert
Food Review: My mom heard about this place from a friend, and the food was great! The only thing I was hoping was that the BBQ pork buns would have more filling than bun, but other than that, the dimsum was wonderful. The Taro buns were really great, and I was actually surprised that they had them because I have rarely been able to get taro buns at most dimsum restaurants. Points for variety!
Service Review: Service was minimal or curt to say the least. But that's to be expected at an authentic Asian restaurant, so no surprises.
Venue Review: The restaurant is spacious, but extremely crowded. Even the time running up to lunchtime can be very busy. There is, however, a large parking lot in front of the restaurant so parking wasn't difficult.
Overall Impression: Not my all time favorite dimsum place, but pretty close! I'd definitely come here again when I want some variety on the dimsum menu, and it's great for parties of all sizes. It's very authentic though, complete with chicken feet and other dishes, so if you get squeamish from some kinds of foreign foods, keep that in mind. -

I went there with my co-workers today to celebrate Chinese New Year and we had the reservation for 12 people at 11:45. When we showed up there at 11:45 (not even a minute late), the host told us she gave the table to some group who didn't have reservation and showed up at 11am. And she promised they would finish in 15 min. We waited for 45 minutes and still didn't get the table. So we went to talk to the people who got our table and they told us that they had reservation for 12:30 but they got there at 11:30. I couldn't believe the host gave them our table even we arrived on time and had we waited for 1 hour to get our table. And we are not the only group who got screwed up. There are another big group who had reservation for 2 tables and pre-order to food for each table over $400 and their tables were also given away when they got there. and they also had to wait for almost 1 hour.

I don't speak Chinese. My family of four as a whole do not eat that much, and probably only needed one or two plates of each staple dim sum dish. Maybe that's why all of the people walking around in carts gave me dirty looks when I asked for a plate of xiu mai, or even glasses of water. Most people who work here look angry. Like the way a grandma looks at her granddaughter when she wears her boyfriend-shirt-turned-into-dress outside. Great for a Sunday morning.
Also, they tried to squish me and my family at a table that was literally one inch away from another table, and in the walk way of the carts moving around. The duration of my breakfast consisted of me getting hit by a cart every time they walked by, and when I moved my chair I was directly against another family's table. It was awkward. Food is good, but I felt so uncomfortable by the whole environment I just wanted to leave.
Just a thought, it says they take reservations but they don't do that on weekends because it gets way too busy. -

I went for dinner (not dim sum) with my fiance and it was pretty bad. Hard to get the attention of the wait staff and the food was not good. I have heard from a lot of people that the dim sum is great, but the dinner experience was very bad.

Supposedly very much comparable to Joy Luck on Wolfe. Even though I've never been to Joy Luck, I hear it's "the best" dim sum in the area.
To start, I'm not a big fan of dim sum. It's whatever to me. Too oily, quick to fill your stomach, only to leave you hungry later on.
This place could've been nice, I could tell from the walls and lights. Although typical of chinese restaurants, the idea is in and out as quickly as possible. Service wasn't all that great. The table setting left much to be desired. BUTTT there was a lot of Chinese people here from young to old, so they must be doing something right in terms of food.Listed in: Brunch.

We have been here many times. It used to be one of our favorite Chinese restaurants, but we were a little disappointed today. We ordered sauteed beef with XO sauce, surf clam with mushrooms, seafood + chicken with home made tofu, and fried sticky rice. The portions are smaller than before, and the surf clam dish was definitely different from before. Maybe they have a different chef or change how to cook some dishes. The best dish tonight is the homemade tofu dish. Very tender and tasty. Overall the food is not bad, but just not as good as before.

This review should have been written a few years ago, but it is never too late to spread the word.
Mother's Day 2009 for dim sum:
A flood of people waiting as expected, with no waiting area and a small sidewalk. Some girl's (in her late twenties or early thirties) number gets called and she doesn't say, "excuse me" or politely tap my aunt on the shoulder, but just PUSHES her. Not accidentally bump into her as she tries to squeeze through, but purposely and angrily pushes her. I saw . Annnd heard the accompanying Chinese cussing from the same girl.
My cousins and I were quick to step up to find out what her problem was... she cowarded off but still had the nerve to continue to cuss at us in Chinese. We weren't going to let her go but some workers came out and rescued her. They exchanged some words with her in Chinese without ever addressing US, and escorted her inside. No one ever said anything to us. So she got away for assault and got seated and we never got an apology. bleeh.
We got seated soon after and as we walked in, saw the girl sitting and teary-eyed at her table. Well, good. It is important to know when you have wronged and feel remorse for it. It means you might not be a psychopath.
---
There was also a time even before this incident when the server didn't give me back my change because he said it was his "tip." How presumptuous. I demanded he give it back and needless to say, he didn't end up getting any tip from me that day.
I used to work at Quickly next door and my loyal customers who knew I had three jobs and was still a full-time student at the time, would occasionally bring me takeout dim sum items from here. I always thought the food was decent but after that ridiculous Mother's Day experience, I've vowed to never come back. -

Tasty dim sum. Seemed pretty authentic for a white-washed girl and her out-of-town family. They insisted on dim sum but I think they were a little surprised by how 'authentic' it was. But they enjoyed it and tried a large majority of the carts. There were some communication issues with trying to get seated, and looking for certain items, but I got my pork buns (the only item I can request by name) and they were tasty and fresh. We arrived before the crowd so were able to be seated instantly, but I have been here when there's a wait... my recommendation? Just try to come early. It can be a little chaotic when it's packed.

A below average Dim Sum Restaurant. I have been here about 3 times and although decent, it just a little less good than your average dim sum place. Don't understand the Saigon part of the restaurant, you just can't fuse HK with Saigon. The place is ok, parking is ok, sometimes a wait, but for Sunnyvale i guess you can't complain.
People come here for the Taro Buns, but i don't really like them personally.
2 stars for the food alone (almost a 3 which is my standard for dimsum) -

Strong fishy smells as soon as you step in....the 1st restaurant in the US to remind me of the ones I have been to in China! No waiting time at all on the day we went...in fact close to empty so great for us!
The dishes are expensive and the portion size is not large.
the good part of all of this is the taste of the food...great tasting food! -

Tried to go to this place for so many times, but every time there's a HUGE line. So I went there around 11am on a Sunday, but still waited 25 min to get in, but I'm very disappointing with the overall experience there, and I promise I WILL NEVER COME BACK AGAIN!!!
The food was okay in general, not bad, but not very impressive either. Don't understand why there's always such a long wait.
The thing I really don't like there was the service...maybe partially because of the place I seat too. They installed us in the corner, and it seems there's no way for us to get the food we want! Nobody would take the order, and the cart we wanted just never came. After waiting for another 20+ minutes, when I finally found the things I wanted, that lady gave me a poker face and seemed so pissed...Seriously, I have no clue why...I just want my food! Why was she so pissed???
Anyway anyway, I was totally annoyed, and just will never even think of going back there again! -

I would have to say that this is one of the better dim sum places available in the area.
Their basic dim sum stuff (shrimp dumpling, shrimp rice wrap, bbq pork buns, etc) are fairly good but the thing about Saigon that sets it apart is they have really good taro buns also known as "white mountain bun", tofu dessert (I think only available on weekends), and all of their fried stuff (crab fried rolls, shrimp fried rolls, etc). Overall, their dim sum is REALLY good compared to a lot of the other dim sum places.
I've actually never really had to wait in line for a seat when I go, but probably because I go early in the morning (around 10-11am)- if you don't want to wait too long I'd advise going early.
Atmosphere and staff-wise....well, let's just say we should all just go for the food. The place is a little run down and there's really not much to brag about- the staff are ok- the wait staff and managers are friendly and helpful enough but the dim sum cart pushers tend to be rude and not really helpful (it's almost as if they're trying to hoard up the dim sum rather than sell it).
Overall, I'd recommend the place if you're just looking for something simple, tasty, and fairly cheap. But like I said, go to the restaurant for the food not the atmosphere or service.
**Good piece of advice: Go with a friend who speaks good Cantonese/Mandarin and knows what types of dim sum to order- those cart pusher ladies don't mess around, if you don't speak Cantonese/Mandarin things may/can turn ugly and you'll end up here writing a 1-3 star report about how terrible the service is. -
Review from Robert S.
Extremely solid dim sum spot. 3.5 stars.
For what it's worth, it does seem worth it to call ahead. It isn't as easy as just putting your name down though. You call, and they give you a number. When you show up, tell them your number. On their list, you are highlighted a certain color, to indicate you called ahead. Once you check in, they highlight it a different color, to indicate you called ahead and you are present. At that point, they will let you in. It is incredibly unclear if you haven't done it before.
Once you get into the exclusive club that is HK Saigon Seafood Harbor Restaurant (that really was the name to choose?), we got plopped in an odd corner, where it was hard to get to the carts. We had to be really keen about getting their attention, but luckily, the area servers will get some things for you. And the cart pushers are pretty good at keeping an eye out.
The actual dim sum was quite tasty, in my not-AZN opinion. Really, as long as the BBQ Pork Buns are tasty, I've always happy. But everything else was good too.
Not too shabby. The logistics of the place are a little confusing, and it was a little pricey compared to what I know. But it's good dim sum, and an interesting experience. I'll be back. -

So, if you're in the mood for the typical Chinese food, this place will hit the spot. Pretty much everything you would want and expect, but nothing special beyond that.

We went here today at 1:30pm. The host tried to give us the table by the wall where we did not want to sit. We were trying to tell the host we did not want to take that table, which the dumpling carts can't reach, but she just kept telling us " SIT INSIDE SIT INSIDE SIT INSIDE! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" How rude!!!! That host just did not pay attention to what we were saying!! We were so upset that we complained to the manager, but I don't think anything will change. We just left. This restaurant has the worst costumer service in the bay area (not just from this visit)!!! If you want to eat dumpling, please go to NEW PORT in Cupertino!! Trust me!!!! Don't go to this crappy restaurant!!
