2 reviews for Hong Kong Gardens Chinese Restaurant
Hong Kong Gardens is one of those places that many of my friends have never been to or diss it because, well, its that funny Chinese place up on the hill.
Having grown up in San Francisco with really great Chinese food, I too was very hesitant about this place. Also, I think that for many, the main attraction is the bar, which I've never hung out in.
The food--mostly only so-so or not quite. I've tried a few of the soups and been disappointed. Their Thai dishes leave much to be desired.
However, there are a few exceptions which I like: their Chinese greens with either chicken or shrimp, the eggplant which I usually ask for with tofu, and their chow fun noodles (wide rice noodle dish).
The view is great looking out over the water from on high, but I usually get my food to go.
Not your greatest place, with a few exceptions, but after all, this is Whidbey Island.
This is another vegetarian/vegan-friendly option for some decent asian cooking. The building itself seems pretty old, and in need of a little repair, but the view is one of the best on Whidbey Island for a restaurant, which overlooks Clinton, Puget Sound and Everett on a clear day. The veggie Thai dishes may contain some meat bases, so be sure to ask. Their salt and pepper tofu is nice, and other veggie dishes have been okay.
