I can't believe I discover Honeyspot just as they're about to close! :*** (.
This place is fantastic - I found a raggedy ann and andy block print (which is now hanging proudly in my home) and a really awesome "Bless This Home" plaque with a creepy pastel Jesus on it - the perfect housewarming present for two friends who are now my new neighbors.
Everything is on sale right now - my purchases cost me less than $5 total. I'll be sure to check back before they close for good.
great concept executed poorly.
The owner has a good eye, and supports locals, but I found a lot of bad quality items. Stains and rips are to be expected to some extent on vintage items, but there is a point where I can't imagine ever being sen with some of these extreme blemishes, let alone spending money on them.
There is a good variety of old and new in the small shop and her prices are reasonable. Her jewelry is what keeps me coming back for more.
cute little local gift shop! I found an adorable pair of hand-knit booties and a holographic card here for my friend. Love it!
Will come back.
OVERPRICED!!!
unfriendly!
some cool stuff though
So I hear this place is closing down at the end of the month, but I'll review it anyway.
I feel I may have come here too late in their closing sale, when they'd already been raided of all their best stock. I was in here on Saturday afternoon during the $5 bag sale-- everything you can stuff in a bag is only $5!!! Woo hoo! But I literally scoured the store and couldn't find anything I wanted badly enough, even for the small price. I found most of their knick-knacks to be utterly useless and tacky, and the clothes to be what I like to refer to as fug-vintage-- all the vintage stuff that should stay in the past.
But hey, the store has a nice concept, and again, I may have just gotten here too late to really experience it's selection at its finest. It's worth a look before they close down for good. Maybe you need a silver polyester blouse?
Cute little store with unique gifts and cards...I find the perfect cards here. Wonderful selection if you're looking for something quirky. Also a great place to pick up a small gift, like a tin toy or one of those paper tress that magically grows on your desk. See the review by Bonnie G. below for more on gift selections...
They seem to be carrying a lot of bugs in resin these days...so if that's high up on your list...there ya go!
They also carry a small selection of clothing/bags/shoes and they are nice too. I haven't bought any clothing but I did pick up a great vintage pocketbook just the other day.
There is also a fairly-recent addition of local music for sale, which is wonderful to see.
1) Every time I come here I wanna BABY. The clothes and accessories are so damn hip and crafty (and sometimes vintage) I squeal like a gramma-gimmiegimmiegimmie!
2) Cards. Its true-the best selection of cards. I miss Fly Rabbit in Allston and it reminds me of their extensive collection. Really unique, hipster, but no junk (unlike Brookline Booksmith's cheezy cards sometimes).
3) Gifts (the lil ones). Hey-handmade earrings, vintage necklaces, honey soap, vintage salt n peppa shakers, a camera you can makes yourself, paper dolls, bizarre cheese markers, wind up toys, scarves, lil flip books, journals, you just wanna touch everything-and do! Esp. for the females in your life.
4) Clothes-man, I am sad that I have not found one item I can buy yet. Everything has either not fit right or too expensive. I really like their selection but nothing has worked out. It makes me sad I cannot consume their yumminess. Blouses, handstitched sweatshirts, purses, some heels, funky skirts, velvet blazers, hats, reconstructed t-shirts and some designer one of a kind creations are to be had here (only female as far I saw). (But for the menz or butcher gals, go to GumShoe next door).
5) My friends got me a mexican wrestling mask that has made me so happy-it has become an extension of me.
6) Only prob is odd hours since it is a labour of love, that lil store.
Funky, little store in JP to buy a special, unique gift for someone or for yourself. The girl working there was super friendly and actually told us that if we wanted to check out the jewelry, we can open up the glass case ourselves. Besides the cool, yet inexpensive, jewelry, they have wacky, vintage style wind-up robotic toys, and cute, one of a kind clothes/bibs for babies. Loved the cards, and notes, just wish there were more of a selection. (Tip: If you want unique things for the house, go to Gadgets further down the street.)
I live in Cambridge, but being a typical lesbian, often find myself in JP- big shocker! Anyway, I recently happened upon this store which I loved! It's a cute store that has lots of random fun things. I bought my friend an awesome photograph from a local artist of a market in Vietnam- it was framed and awesome and just $35!
I love Honeyspot! Opened by Laura of Miss Laura's salon, and Hilken of Punk Rock Aerobics (and a handful of awesome bands), Honeyspot is a little nest filled with fun stuff. From the usual gift/kitsch store stuff (fancy soaps, kooky cards, Mexican wrestling masks) to vintage and one-of-a-kind clothing, set to a great soundtrack, this store is the kind of place one can waste an hour or two. My favorite find is a rust velvet skirt made by a local designer. Definitely check this place out if you need a unique little gift - or something for yourself.
Honeyspot is the funnest store e-ver, & is kitschy without pretense. I always think of getting gifts for my friends here because of the unique, one-of-a-kind goodies which are undoubtedly thoughtful and straight-up neat. Amongst their wide array is a cute selection of jewelry with neat rings & brooches, a vintage clothing section, along with some local designer pieces as well. The eccentricity of the store is something to be admired; you can tell the merchandise buyers are particular and posess a good eye -- they've often helped me or made suggestions during shopping -- and that they strive to maintain a fun, funky approach to fashion, design, and living that is refreshing and oft overlooked!
I've had a mixed experience here, but I'm going to give it five stars because my most recent visit was excellent. This is your typical Boston-area catch-all boutique--crazy cards, some by local artists, little toys to give your hipster friends, some reworked vintage clothes (skip these: ugly, expensive, not good quality.) In other words, fun for a visit, I'm probably not going to spend my money there.
But today I went in and picked up a vintage Saks mint green boucle dress for ten bucks, a green skirt with ladybugs on it for seven, and two super-cute, super-awesome plastic rings (my favorite kind). Total cost? About $32 bucks. I hope this store is moving towards carrying more vintage clothes, and more unique items to differentiate it from all of the other boutiques in the area--I was really happy with everything I bought today, and I had a great time.
I got some excellent cards here around the holidays and had a hard time choosing, the selection was so good. I'd definitely go back.
awesome little place...really nice selection of cards...i went here after I cut and colored my hair at "miss laura's" next door, where the owner owns both the salon and the store...
the jewelry was also very cool, and the vintage items were cute, but a little more expensive then I wanted to spend..i saw two awesome dresses on display and the prices were 68-90 bucks! yikes!
a good place to browse around for cute little gifts and trinkets for your more eclectic friends..!
