the chicken is FABULOUS. the crispiest, crunchiest fried chicken i've ever had, and so juicy. easily 5 stars. biscuits are awesome too. however, the service is AWFUL, and the prices are on the high side. dinner for two with drinks cost us close to $30.
the sides are pretty lackluster. i've tried the potato salad, coleslaw, and the mashed potatoes and all three were bland and unremarkable.
they always forget to give you the sweet pickles that come with your meal, so make sure you ask them for it! and also make sure to (slowly and carefully) pump out some sauce to go along with your chicken.
one good thing is that you can make substitutions without extra fees, like swapping out a leg for a thigh or getting another side instead of fries.
yum yum yum!! Picked up some fried chicken to go when I was in the area yesterday afternoon. We had to smell it the whole way home, but the wait was worth it. Even after a few hrs the chicken still tasted fresh, and the skin was perfect crispness. Yum! And the biscuits... ooohweeee. So delicious and had the perfect taste of butter and sweetness.
Can't wait to go back for more. :)
Ahh how I love cheating death with you, Honey. What will be the last straw for my arteries? Your crispy golden chicken, dripping through the paper with grease? Your perfectly fluffy fries that are good with or without ketchup?? no. It will be the buttery goodness of your sinful biscuits, dripping with honey. high five!
now for the cons... the lighting is awful. Glaringly bright, it gave me a headache. Also, there was a bit of 'tude coming from the employees. Fix the lighting, stop mad-dogging customers, and you'll have a 5 star place.
I don't know why people are surprised that Fried Chicken is greasy. It's submerged in oil, not baked on a rack. You come here to glut not to count calories. Also, anyone comparing this to KFC needs to get their taste buds checked out. They don't even use real chicken. Here at Honey's the batter is crispy and crunchy.
I love the soft and moist biscuits with honey drizzled on. Wash it down with an iced tea and you're good to go.
Furthermore, the prices are not that bad. Lunch for less than ten bucks is alright by me. Besides if you're in downtown Culver City you other options, just walk to them.
LIKE HAVING FRIED CHICKEN FOR THE FIRST TIME.
Being raised in the SOCAL my only two chicken options were PIONEER and KFC.....plus the few other low rent places. So having finally a chance to try this place i was thrilled to taste fried chicken for the first time.
PRO
MOIST SUCCULENT FLAVORFUL CRISPY CHICKEN...I had the brest and at first i thought it was greasy but it wasn't it was just really moist and tender amazing.
Biscuits were soft and flavorful without being too "buttermilky"
Warm honey and was a perfect compliment to this incredible chicken.
Mexican COKE ..the one in the glass which is made from real cane sugar instead of HFC...thats why it taste better.
CONS
Fries were cold and we were served by and angry escape convict...he was scary and mean......and stared as me as i went back for extra honey....i think he was pissed because he had just filled the condiment container....also asking you have to ask for extra napkins....
but seriously the chicken makes up for it.....
A fancy version of KFC. Sorry folks, I really don't have that much good to say about this place. The price you pay for the food you get, just outrageous. And all three times I've been here I've had the worst service. It's like they could give two shits that you're in there. And I'm not gonna say the reason either...I think you know what I mean if you've been here before.

Holly Baby Jezus of all fried chicken! The chicken here is just freaking delicious; I would say better the Roscoes. The batter they use along with the crunch and juiciness of the chicken make this place the heaven of fried chicken. The biscuit was flaky and their sauces were also a treat. The only reason I've deducted a star was because of the service. The guys seemed lost and the food did take a long time. Could be a lot more organized, they have all the tools, just need to get it together. Overall, a must stop on my LA trips...
After hearing all the raves about this place, I took my family to check the place out. It's in a nicer part of Culver City past the Sony Pictures buildings. Forget trying to find parking on a Saturday night. Had to park at the top of a tightly laid-out parking structure. There was a long line to the door, but it went pretty quickly. Not much seating.
On to the food . . . I was pretty disappointed. Order the chicken/pancake combo for me and the wife and kids meals for the kids. Did not like any of the chicken that we ordered. Pancake was whatever. Fries were whatever. Lemonade was okay. The only saving grace was the awesome biscuit.
I won't be going back again unless someone convinces me I ordered the wrong thing and that I must try it again.
Artery clogging goodness. This is one of those places where you'll eat the food because it tastes great, only to tell yourself that next time, you'll eat a little less.
They server the best fried chicken, served with warm honey and biscuits on the side. My body can only take that kind of punishment a couple of times per year, so I go there conservatively.
If you have no diet limitation and don't feel guilty after a delicious, though not so healthy meal, this is the place for you!
A little pricey (for fried chicken) and greasy as well, but pretty damn delicious!
My new favorite place for fried chicken!!! This place made me and my boyfriend happy! We actually weren't planning on coming here, but after seeing it being so crowded we decided why not. It's not going to hurt so we took a look at their menu and decided to give it a try. =) I mean who doesn't love fried chicken right =D NOM NOM NOM. We were scanning through the menu and decided to get the "Porter house combo". It came with a choice between 2 wings or a chicken breast. We got the chicken breast and it was pure with meat. Crispy on the outside & tender on the inside. It's so moist it just melts in your mouth & it's good with the honey =) Then there's the kat fish. OMG a whole fish! Wow can they be anymore generous c(: I loved it. The biscuits are huge and very moist and buttery. Lastly, it comes with french fries and I'm in love with the Cole slaw. I was more than happy because I got my money's worth & the food was good. Oh yeah to top it off we got a lemonade which was just what we needed and they also offer hot cakes, but we were too full to try any. I wish they had a closer location in the OC area, but this is my new place. I mean all that food for $10+ is not bad and it was hot and FRESH and definitely worth the wait. I had to give they a -1 because the bathroom was just nasty and they did to check on it more often because there was water everywhere and no toilet paper =P
P.S. There's one in Compton omggggg! =) It should be safe...
Sure, we all know that Honey Kettle tastes best when it's right out the fryer; the meat is juicy, and the sweet amber skin practically shatters when you bite into it. But for my money, it's almost as good at room temperature.
Here's a game plan for a failsafe picnic. First, hit up Honey Kettle for chicken and biscuits. Just make sure to pick up three or four more pieces than you plan to serve. Open the box in the car so the steam doesn't turn the crust soggy, and when you get home, let the chicken cool on a baking rack. This is when you'll benefit from the extras -- drumsticks tend to disappear when you turn your back.
Pack up individual servings of chicken and biscuits in cardboard takeout boxes from your local restaurant supply store, and bring plenty of cold Grüner Veltliner and homemade sweet tea with bourbon. And don't hesitate to let your friends think you toiled over a hot vat of oil to fry their dinner, as it'll pay dividends later at the bar.
Why even bother writing a review when there are already 400+ on here for Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken? Maybe because I love fried chicken and I want to share it with the world? Good enuf.
For 3 guys and 1 girl, we got the Party Pac for $39, which came with 16 pieces of fried chicken, 8 biscuits, 2 orders of kettle fries, and 2 sides (we got potato salad and coleslaw). The verdict?
Chicken: The batter was just right and the chicken was not moist, but it was good for white meat. We ended up with a few drumsticks, but most of the pieces were large breasts (hee hee).
Biscuits: They would make Paula Dean proud, light and full of buttery goodness.
Coleslaw: Good and refreshing, just the right amount of mayo.
Potato salad: Generous container of it and really good consistency.
Fries: Kind of soft, and a little on the salty side, but otherwise good.
For some reason, they only gave us 4 biscuits and 15 pieces of chicken, so I would count them before you start eating. They didn't make a fuss about giving us the missing pieces.
It's all-you-can-help-yourself honey and sauces. They have this one tangy/spicy sauce that AK told me to mix with the honey. Good mix! You get it all: sweet, spicy, and a little tangy.
The only thing blatantly missing was sweet tea. Odd that they don't have it when everything else was so southern. There are a few tables inside and a few outside for al fresco finger-lickin' dining. It's good for groups if you can get a few tables together, which wasn't a problem for us on a Monday night.
Park on the Cardiff lot right around the corner. It's 2 hours free with $1 every hour thereafter. What's better than a good meal at a good price? Free parking!
I absolutely love fried chicken and this place is a definite keeper. Although it's a bit pricey ($8 for a 2 piece meal), the chicken is moist and juicy and not super greasy (a la KFC). I chalk the high price more up to the nice Culver City location and the fact that fresh quality ingredients cost more (Larkins actually cost double this but they do have waiter service). Fries and biscuit were ok, the biscuit was very buttery and salty. I could go just for the bird next time.. mmmmmmm Chicken!!
Also spotted sweet potato pies on the back counter.... ohhh!!!
I went here with Paul D because we were in the area.. and this place had almost 400 reviews.. with a 4 star rating. It had to be good.
I ordered the two pieces of chicken, one biscuit, and lemonade. So first thing I tried was the lemonade. It wasn't thaaat good. It was way too sweet... and it tasted very artificial. I switched drinks with Paul, and had water instead.
The biscuit was good. There fried chicken tasted the same as every other fried chicken to me. (Popeyes, Church's, Golden Bird).. not sure what all the hype is about.
The restaurant itself was.. meeehh. I looked at the floor behind the counter and it was nasty. dirty. The floor was wet and slippery.
I hesitated about coming here because of some poor reviews a couple of months ago, but I thought it best that I experience it for myself. I love the rejuvenation of downtown Culver City so much, I really wanted this to rock. Especially after touring the new Room & Board a few blocks away.
Honey's Kettle did NOT disappoint. Waited about 15 minutes for the chicken to be cooked, but when it arrived, it was CRUNCHY, flavorful, bursting with juices (folks, please don't confuse this with greasy). The skin was virtually greaseless! We were definitely happy campers, never talking, just moaning as we were munching down.
The biscuits?????? Ayyyy! Nice "give" outside, buttery and flaky inside. Do em with honey, and forget the butter, because they are BAKED with a ton of butter and are decadent.
The fries are actually a nice "medium" size (thickness), and were damn good. Just what I'd expect. My dining partner had corn on the cob, and it was a big ear of corn and tasted nice and fresh.
Staff seemed reasonably efficient, but also seemed a tad indifferent (like in a typical fast-food establishment). But these weren't teens, so they should know better. They need to take that extra step of smiling and greeting and welcoming customers, and making sure people are happy. AND if a customer says that they are happy, they should acknowledge it with a smile. A smile, a grin, a little bit of chatter goes a long way.
When we first entered, the common complaint was evident. A bunch of dirty tables. But during our 15 minute wait, one staffer did come out and wipe all the tables down.
I will definitely be back. This was some of the best fried chicken I've had in decades.
1 word: OVERRATED!!!!
- the fried chicken was very crispy, but also VERY greasy!
- the grease on the chicken tasted OLD
- looks inviting from the outside, but once you step inside...NOT SO MUCH. (I've been to cleaner fast ((fried chicken)) food joints.)
- Good thing it wasn't too pricey or I'd probably go on a Yelp Strike! 4 stars w/ 399+ reviews for this place? what theeeeeeeeeeee....
- nice friendly service though! =)
funny thing has happened in the last couple years since i've been to honey's kettle....the service and food flip flopped.
yep, good service now with so-so food. *inert sad face*
i raved and raved about honey's kettle fried chicken to all my friends and will no longer do so. don't get me wrong, the fried chicken is just fine but it no longer has the zing factor that had me salivating each time i thought of the place.
why?
their fried chicken is greasier than a mofo. it used to be low on the grease factor, but man, for some reason the chicken is packed full of grease. so much so that the grease runs from the chicken, down your fingers, into your palm and down your wrist.
and no, this is not juicy chicken goodness, it is grease. meh!
however, the grease insulated the chicken well so it was uber juicy. juicy and greasy chicken....hmm....weird.
their biscuits have changed as well. they used to be super light and fluffy and packed full of buttery goodness. however, the biscuits we were served were more dense, a bit over baked and lacking in the butter.
since i was a hungry mofo, i ate 4 pieces of chicken any ways...damn you hungry fatty inner child.
will i head back? i dunno.......i need to find a pioneer chicken near me.....now that stuff is the bomb!
2* for the food
1* for the better service

Yum! Great fried chicken! I dare to say better than Roscoe's, but.... service was better @ Roscoe's! But what do u expect from a KFC style, fast food joint!?
After hearing much hype about this place, I decided to try it. It did not disappoint (besides the service and attitude from the cashier!)! I ended up ordering the hotcakes and breast chicken meal for $7.50. The chicken was flavorful (just the right seasoning), and the hotcakes were decent.
In addition, I had to have the biscuits! They were so soft and butter-flavored that I had to eat more than one (and I usually don't eat that many!)! I also tried their sweet potato pie, and it was just yummy (could have been better if it had whipped topping)! I washed it all down with their shaker lemonade, which was fresh squeezed lemon juice, and it was just what I needed after all that grease!
Definitely will be back! I didn't realize I was less than 2 miles from this place or the surrounding area of Downtown CC!
Parking was easy with the 2 hour free lot just around the corner. We got there just before a rush so we had no real wait. Place seemed clean with a couple nice big screen TVs playing PAC 10 football.
Our order came up quick, and after looking behind the counter I noticed that there were chicken pieces waiting under a heat lamp. That turned out not to be an issue as the chicken was certainly the best part of the 4 piece meal. The fried chicken was hot and juicy with a tasty, crispy skin - very good with both the honey and hot sauce. The biscuit was pretty good but the other sides (fries and cole slaw) were nothing special.
Dropped down to three stars because of the service. I understand that it's a walk up and order type of place, but when the point of sales person can't seem to get the order right for a pair of dinner combos, it's not surprising that we were missing two sides when we got our tray of food.
Overall, I'll go here again if I'm in Culver City and craving fried chicken. Just need to double check that to go bag, making sure everything is in there...
I feel like LA is pretty good with fried chicken. Whether it's Larkin's or Kyochon or Roscoe's, we have got some good representin'.
Honey's can easily be added to that list. It has a gentle, soft better - versus say the crunchier Roscoe's - but very tasty. The chicken is always juicy for a solid taste. And make sure to try the honey and hot sauces!
The biscuits are above average. Flaky and moist. And you taste that butter/buttermilk!
Overall this place is good, but I do agree with other Yelpers - it is pricey and the service is not, sadly, service-oriented.
But worth it while on the Westside.
Great fried chicken-its crispy and flavorful! (its much better than roscoes)
Their lemonade is fresh and don't taste like a powder drink like other places.
Biscuits basically melt in your mouth! warm, fluffy and delicious!!
I am also a fan of their sweet potato pies~!!!
Its the best great southern cooking for an affordable price!
I live literally 5 mins from this place and decided to treat myself to some gluttonous Fried Chicken on my Birthday after all my awesome little Fucker friends decides to throw me a huge bash.. I'm being sarcastic, those Fuckface's didn't do shit for me!! LOL
Mind you, I haven't eaten Fried Chicken for almost 5 years. I had the 4 piece dinner with fries, honey biscuit and pickles. 3 words!! "So Fuckin' Good!!". Did I tell you that I'm half Black? Hahaha!! I was spent after it all and took a long Idus nap!!! Boom!! Done!!

A buddy recommended this as possibly the best chicken in LA. The chicken was good, and reasonably priced. They actually have honey in pump dispensers. You can get waffles w/ your chicken. The fried wings were very good, with great texture. The food earns a 4+
The service was slow, and less than appreciative. Get there early, because the studio crowd overwhelms the place. The line goes out the door onto the sidewalk! Parking is catch as you can...These are the reasons I dragged my overall rating down to a 3.
What really is there to say about Honey's Kettle that hasn't been said. It's the best fried chicken I've eaten in LA - definitely leagues above the generic Popeyes or KFC.
It all lies in the crispy batter and HKFC's various sauces. I generally stick with the hot sauce as it provides a good dip for the chicken and fries. However, there is also honey and a secret sauce available.
I generally will request thigh pieces for the moist, dark meat. I have yet to be disappointed, but I imagine that their breast pieces are superb as well.
How much butter do they put into the biscuits? That's the question I always walk away with after I eat Honey's. Actually, I'd probably rather not know, but HKFC serves the best biscuits I've had. Additionally, they serve some outstanding mashed potatoes. It's in the gravy.
PERUSE YOUR LOCAL NEWSPAPERS (I'm thinking LA Weekly and the such) FOR COUPONS. HKFC used to publish BOGO coupons for their meals. I haven't seen one in a while, but maybe they'll return since the economy is still down. Regular prices are a bit high, but BOGO makes it a steal.
Yes, it's not the healthiest (I don't imagine any fried chicken is). Yes, it is oily (Again, it's fried chicken, not tofu salad). And yes, it is expensive (nearly $2 per piece, if not more). -1 for relatively high prices and less than stellar counter service (it sure doesn't seem like anyone enjoys working here). HKFC is a solid four star establishment.
I don't get it. What do people like here? Is it that hard to find great fried chicken in LA? The chicken was chewy, the biscuits were good but very crumbly and dry, and the counter service is rude as hell. I was so looking forward to this place. The honey and spicy dipping sauce were good but doesn't make up for the rest.
I've heard that the original location is great so I will try it. But this was ghetto.
Fantastic chicken, on par with Roscoes. Great biscuits. It does end up costing a bit more then you'd expect to pay for fried chicken however.
The restaurant does a lot of carryout and well as dine in.
The biscuits with honey are great.
Be sure to double check your order at the counter when you make it, especially if it's a large one. They do tend to get an item or two wrong.
Dear Honey's Kettle,
It's not you...it's me.
I'm vegetarian now and I miss you more than words can say.
You were the most amazing fried chicken I've ever had in my life...and now you're gone. Not only did your fried chicken make me feel like I had died and gone to heaven....but you paired my fried chicken with a biscuit that can only be described as perfect.
You were a cheap thrill and I loved the relationship we had....but alas we're officially over. I think about you from time to time....about your tender, juicy breasts....all crispy and hot with the perfect amount of seasoning. But it's over! I've accepted that...and I'm moving on...
Thank you for everything you have given me and for the experiences we shared together.
You former lover,
~Ishani
Comic relief: Me vs. the Condiment Dispenser!!!!
I swear this contraption inside Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken is out to get me! And I work out regularly, so I know lack of upper body strength is not the issue here. The folks at Honey's have set their condiment dispenser on a counter that far above the waist-level on the average customer (unless you are Yao Ming or something) and then they offer condiments of varying viscosity. Guaranteed awkward hilarity ensues:
Pump 1. The Secret Sauce - might be the tastiest of the three, but that stuff will shoot out of the cup if you hit the lever too hard. And everyone is waiting behind you to hurry the hell up so don't even think about licking your fingers. Ew. Just get with the program and properly pump out the sweet stuff in your 2nd and 3rd cups...and then move on cuz if you lag on Pump # one, it might get ugly.
Pump 2. The Honey - I think wet concrete might pour out faster than this stuff!!! And forget trying to pump HARDER, it makes no difference, and you're sitting there with a half cup of honey and can feel the death ray stares from people behind you, who are all waiting for you to hurry the hell up at this point, cuz they are HUNNNNGRY! If you turn around an apologize, everyone will be fake and say, "oooOOooh no no, it's okay!!!!" but you know that they are all salivating and getting annoyed with you holding them up.
Pump 3. The Hot Sauce - by this point it has usually taken me so much time to get through Pumps # 1 and 2 that I always forgo the hot sauce. I actually have never once had Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken with hot sauce because I always feel so bad that I took half a decade to pump out the first two sauces (and cap them!!), and I'm too lazy to make a second trip to the condiment bar when the line dies down. Even if I was a punk and decided to tack on another minute to pump out the hot sauce, this stuff would be guaranteed to shoot out all over the place because after struggling with the honey pump, I've watched everyone hit Pump #3 with the expectation that it too would be as difficult to pump as the honey, and then SPLAT...hot sauce all over the place. So yea, I skip this pump.
Is it too much for them to just prepackage a few sauces for customers??
p.s. The chicken is still okay, but nothing to write home about.... I have grown to like the biscuits w/ honey...when I can actually pump enough out!!

Sometimes, we all need a little fried chicken. Kind of like how we sometimes need a little chicken… Read more »
They really do have the best biscuits and fried chicken in town. The biscuits are special because they have the texture resembling that of a biscuit and soft bread. Never had biscuits like this any where else. I even heard that the family has been torn apart due to drama about who gets to keep the recipe. The fried chicken is special because of the batter. Its thin, crunchy, and smooth. It doesn't have any breading in it. It always comes out juicy and not overcooked. The food can take awhile for it to come out though, but I guess that's how long freshly fried chicken takes to cook.
I think this was my 3rd time eating at Honey's Kettle, and on this visit I decided to give it 5 stars after all.
If you go there during their non-peak hours like I did this time (around 4 p.m.) there's no wait, which made it more pleasant over all experience compared to the last visits during peak dinner hours.
How do they make their fried chicken so crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside? Their biscuits are also delicious and lemonade good (bit sweet).
I will definitely keep going back.
We must have gone on a bad day. The service was way off and food was mediocre (someone took our order but then walked away without us paying, some other person came and took the order again, and then there was much confusion. Our order finally did get through and we got our chicken). I was excited about this place, as it was on my list to check out.
Even for a Labor Day holiday and 3pm at that - there were a decent amount of people here. And I can see why. Who doesn't like a good fried chicken? I think that's the problem though - it's really fried - as in - I need to take a shower and detox cuz I have an I-ate-too-much-of-a-bad-for-you-fried-food feeling.
Chicken - sorta like American/southern version of Korean Kyochon/Bonchon chicken - it's fried with a batter that results in a smooth, golden, extra crispy "skin", full of flavor and almost candy-like sweetness combined with seasoned chicken meat. I confess - it's pretty addicting, especially when you are waay overdue for lunch and Let's be Frank's closed - boohoo!~
Biscuit - Ours wasn't fluffy but actually little gummy. The taste was good but the texture was way to heavy. I could definitely taste a lot of butter and thought - how much could this clog my arteries?
Fries - Rustic, simple and fried golden a la steak fries.
Drink - lemonade. Bit too sweet but definitely fresh, not artificial. It was refreshing to "cut the grease" with the lemonade.
Overall - not a bad place for fried chicken - especially since most of us would shun the idea of frying chicken at home stinkin' it up. But overall - everything was fried (ok - minus the biscuit - but that had butter in it too) and tasted greasy - that I couldn't help but feel like I had just drunk a glass of oil as I was driving home...
At $10/plate for two pieces of chicken and fries, it's not a bad deal but it's also not a great deal. I'd rather have Kyochon/Bonchon any day~
Minus 1 star for running out of Honey for the biscuit.
Minus 2nd star for running out of pickles for our family pak.
other than that, the chicken was really good. the wing pieces were 80% batter but the thighs, breast and leg were meaty and juicy.
I've been to Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken a few times now and have one major issue with them - INCONSISTENCY.
Sometimes, the biscuits are buttery, flaky- delicious with a drizzle of honey. Sometimes, the biscuits are heavy and dry.
As for the chicken, sometimes the skin is wonderfully crispy and the meat is juicy and flavorful. Sometimes, the chicken is overly greasy and dry inside.
Lastly, their customer service is all over the place. I've been forgotten about on two separate occasions (put in order and get passed up until I inquire, at which time the receipt/order is found to be misplaced) and this last visit I stood there waiting for 5-6 minutes while the staff of a half dozen people joked around with one another.
Again, the chicken is pretty good when it's good and the biscuits are really good when they're good, but not knowing if they will be good makes me shy away from going there too often.
It's all about the biscuits here. It's warm, soft, and fresh. Perfect with honey or strawberry jelly. The rest of the food was okay. The fries were really salty and the fried chicken was really crispy but very oily. I love fried chicken and I think it's really hard to F it up so it'll take a lot for me to give fried chicken a bad rating. I don't think it's that bad here, just wrap your chicken (no perv hidden msg) in some napkins first to soak up all that oil.
The sweet pickles are really good. It's not your ordinary pickle. I know this because I hate pickles. I use to dissect them out of my burgers all the time. Now I just end up eating them because I'm too lazy to pick them out but I still not a fan.
They had two sauces out, one being tangy hot sauce which wasn't spicy at all. I think it was one of those "Texas hot sauce." The other sauce was really random and I couldn't even pin point what it composes of. Special sauce? And oh, be careful while you pump the sauces. Do it SLOWLY or you're going home with sauces on your clothes.
The lemonade was quite refreshing and tasty perfect during this hellish weather. As for the service, seemed whatevers. This isn't a fancy restaurant, so don't expect much. Cleanliness was so/so. Didn't get to try the hot cakes, so no comment. I think though that if I wanted fried chicken and pancakes, I'll be at Roscoe's.
I love that this place is (kind of, not really) close to my apartment, because it's phenomenal.
The biscuits don't get any better than this and the chicken ranks among the best in the bizzz. Great non-Minute Maid crap lemonade, instead (Maybe not freshly squeezed) a higher quality lemonade, with free refills! Great prices too! Only thing is, the fries could have been crispier. They were seasoned well, they just should have been cooked a little longer.
Maybe it was all the hype that ruined my experience...?
Naaahh.
I'll tell you what it was. It was the greasy, fingerprint covered glass door I saw as I pulled it open. It was the grungy floor and dirty tables I saw on my way to order at the counter. It was the blah teenagers working the counter and kitchen. It was the greasy (but yes, crispy) fried chicken I got. It was the old, stale french fries they quickly served up. It was the overly butter-filled biscuits.
Yeaahh, I think THAT'S what ruined my Honey's experience.
My take-away? They serve kid-size portions.
I had to try their chicken, what with all the hype. I had a couple of legs. The batter is tasty and the chicken is juicy, but it was not the best fried chicken I've had in my life.
I added a side of macaroni salad. It came out in a condiment cup. Seriously?
My friend had one of the combos. She passed me her whole fried fish. It was nothing special. The tartar sauce came in a big cup, the size I thought their sides should have come in. The tartar sauce was nice, with a surprising tang from sweet pickles.
Ok, I'll end on a good note. The biscuit was good. It's not flaky. It's more like a super-buttery biscuit-roll. Paula Deen would approve. Well come to think of it, she'd probably add another stick of butter.
It misses the 5th star because I wish they had better sides! I want Mac n Cheese and Stuffing etc! Other than that...this place is excellent! The Chicken is moist and crunchy and awesome with the hot sauce...but the bisquits are off the charts good! I've been a few times and I will be back a few times more. Its one of the places you feel like you didn't waste a meal...I get warm and fuzzy feelings when I eat here!
Best fried chicken in socal. Not to mention the lemonade and biscuts. It was truly a battle between my tastebuds and 3 valves of my heart.
Wish I had a 3 hand to lick all the flavors from.
