This was my first time going to Honda Acura of Campbell, but definitely not the last. John was extremely friendly, genuine, and welcoming!! And to top it off, he finished my car quickly, and the prices are great!! Highly recommend this place!!
Today was hot. 99 degrees to be exact. My AC was not working. I was dying. So I bring my little honda civic to Honda and Acura (my dad has been a loyal customer for yearsssssss) and was quickly greeted by John. I peeked inside the shop and its sooo neat! Everything placed neatly on shelves, no tools lying around here and there, i can see why my dad always comes back to John when somethings wrong with his car.
So john determined, within a matter of minutes, that someone pumped way too much freeon (spelling?) into my AC line thing (Thanks to 76 gas station in fremont), and quickly fixed the problem. I left 30 minutes later, windows up, AC on full blast, and very very happpy!!!!
Highly recommended and very affordable. Did I mention that his office has AC and tons of pictures of his wife and kids? He also speaks perfect english!!! That alone deserves 10 stars.
Finding a good repair shop is virtually impossible.
So with my ears still ringing from the piercing idiocy I was hearing from an-already-named-but-still-too-pissed to rename Honda dealership service department, I jumped onto Yelp to see if there was any Honda repair shop that would refund me some of the IQ points I lost on the last call (I can ill afford to lose more at this point in my life).
Low and behold I read these glowing reviews of Honda Acura of Campbell.
With trepidation, like someone who is trying to date again after a gut-wrenching breakup with your high school sweetheart, I call Honda Acura.
CUE MUSIC: "Oooh...Dream weaver / I believe you can get me through the night!"
John, sweet John, offers to take a look at the car first thing Saturday morning or Friday evening. Mind you, he usually closes at 6:00 PM on weekdays, but he is willing to stay until 7:00 PM on a Friday so I can drop off the car so he can get a head start. I decide to spare him and opt for the 10:00 AM Saturday appointment.
So then he gives me his cellphone number so that I could let him know whether I changed my mind. I feel kinda embarrassed.
Anyway, Saturday morning comes on by, and I get to the repair shop around 10:00 AM. Turns out his wife just gave birth a few days ago...he is sleep deprived and probably confused off his ass (been there, done that myself), and yet he's his usual cheerful self.
Now I feel really bad I didn't give him a break and drop off the car on Friday.
John not only inspects and fixes the car, but he stays late doing so. Throughout the day, he calls me and give me a status check, and his price quotes are extremely reasonable...hell cheap. When I get to his shop to pick up the car, he's got it parked out front, wiped clean, with the heater running to warm up the interior on the cold day.
Later on I hear that he actually went to "an-already-named-but-still-too-pissed to rename Honda dealership service department" to pick up the part the car needed to get fixed.....you know, the one where IQ sucker lady said they couldn't get on a weekend?
At this point, I think I'm in love. Yes, there is love after a breakup.
I'm going there from now on, and I'll try to spare the guy some suffering on account of little old me. I'm also going to send my Acura there from now on.
For those of you who take this to heart, please realize he's pretty close to a one-man shop. Give him a break and give him some time to do your repairs. He will always aim to please, and he sure gave me great service. He will do right by you and will go out of his way. Please don't dock him any points because he doesn't stay until 12:00 midnight for you or agrees to provide day care to your kid while he fixes your car. Everyone has their limits.
But I cannot but give him my highest recommendation.
Kudos.

I wanted to hip everyone to John's awesome abilities but it seems that many of you have already found this out . I would have posted sooner but did not have an account at the time.
His actions speak louder than my words can so I will just tell you some of the things that he did for me.
-great deal on a tune up
-tightened a lose seat
-when a phantom issue with my car could not be identified he had me bring it in "whenever" the problem showed itself! BTW, I'm not claiming that he could do this for everyone (no one could) but when the issue prevented me from starting the car, he came to my house to look at it. Who does that?! This is not the 1950's in Mayberry! My car would never have made it through the winter if John hadn't found and fixed the problem. I am truly grateful...if you want honest service at a price that is more than fair, this is the place.
CHRISTMAS IN MAY!!!
It has taken me 45 years to find an HONEST, TALENTED,SERVICE ORIENTED, repair shop. John will be the only person again ever allowed to look at my Honda that now runs as good as the day I purchased it 14 years ago. John went above and beyond our expectations. Thank you John!
John came highly recommended from two coworkers of mine, so I brought my commuter car in for a new radiator. I immediately found John to be very straightforward, professional, and polite. After looking at my radiator, he pulled my spark plugs and noticed #3 was soaked in oil. I thought I had fixed the leak with a new grommet, but it turned out to be a rocker arm seal -- which is beyond my comfort zone to repair myself. I went ahead and had the radiator replaced along with the new seal, plus a valve adjustment, and adjusted timing.
After the initial work was done, he called to let me know there were other areas that needed attention. I normally work on my own cars, so I know he was giving me a 100% honest assesment. He described eash issue in detail along with quotes, and even offered to show me with the car on a lift. Knowing this is only my commuter car, John helped prioritize what items need to get taken care of ASAP and which ones can wait. I really appreciated that because I don't want to spend a lot of money on this car at once.
When I picked up the car, I found it washed with a freshly cleaned engine bay. I had no idea he was going to do that, and it floored me. John let the car idle with me there, to show how smooth the engine was running. I've never met a mechanic who showed so much pride in his work. It was like my car was his own. I should also mention that he uses OEM parts and his rates are great. I don't have a reason to bring my car in elsewhere.
Also, the next day he called just to make sure I was happy with the car. When was the last time that ever happened to you? Doctors don't even do that after performing surgery!
Here's a quick recap for the lazy people:
1) OUTSTANDING service
2) SUPERIOR work
3) EXCELLENT rate
This is probably the longest review I'll ever write on Yelp but John deserves it 100%. Thanks again!

I read all the reviews and sure enough, John is deserving of only 5-star reviews. I brought in my Honda CRV for a major 90k service. He just had a baby (his first girl) at midnight and was back at work the same morning because he was committed to meeting my appointment. What an amazing professional! It's rare to see service like this anymore.
His shop is absolutely clean, he's honest and friendly and he does so much extra for free (ie Rain-X on the windshields, full service car wash, discounts on numerous services). I'll probably only buy Honda and Acura for the rest of my life because of him!
I've known John Phan for over 10 years. He's been my mechanic since I bought my Honda Civic that long ago. He used to work at the dealership so when he decided to open his own shop, I followed. He is super thorough and takes great pride in his work. I love that he breaks down what needs to be done and how much it is going to cost. He has never over-charged me for anything AND he's a nice guy! I recommend him to all my Honda-owning friends. I think he's so awesome that I still go to him for major tune-ups and repairs - and it's 75 miles away from where I live!
The only sucky thing is that I sooo want a new car, but John says that my 1998 Honda - which has 160k miles on it - can go another 10 years, easily. "Your car is still in great shape. Just don't get lazy about regular oil changes." Oops.
Yay for John keeping my car in great shape! Boo for John keeping my car in great shape so that a new car isn't necessary. He's the best!
John is a very professional and caring mechanic. He goes above and beyond with the services.
I had a 50k major service and he did a great job. I especially like the fact that he:
1) maintains a clean shop. I hate oily floors and oily smells.
2) very upfront and accurate with his price estimates. No hidden charges like Midas.
3) uses genuine Honda/Acura parts only.
4) free shuttle to and from my home.
5) cleaned my engine without extra charges.
6) Yes! He open on the weekend. Call ahead first.
7) he speaks English fluently. He communicates very clearly.
The only thing I didn't like is his shop is hard to find. It's the first left on White Oaks. His sign is "H&A"
He has my full recommendation.
Thanks again John!
We own what is likely the only lemon Acura has ever made - no lie. This car has been nothing but a thorn in our side since we bought it (used from a Toyota dealership - guess we should've known). It's almost always sounded funny, it goes to the shop once a year, and repairs are never under $800. We bought a new car and let this one sit, but then...we needed it fixed. After reading reviews on Yelp, we took the lemon to John.
Let me first say John is a sweet, knowledgeable guy, and the gal that works with him (is that his wife?) is so nice. When we arrived he went over with us all the things he could immediately see were wrong with the lemon. He called later to tell us what else he had found after a more thorough inspection of the lemon. My husband authorized a good deal of repairs, though not all, since the bill really added up after inspection (stupid lemon!), and John recommended what could wait and what needed fixing now.
When we went to pick it up, he had forgotten to do a repair we had authorized. He was very embarassed by this and asked if we could return in a few hours. When we came back, the car was washed, the engine steam cleaned, the car was running better than it was when we bought it, and he gave us a discount on our bill. In other words, he made it right, and I like businesses that make it right.
We've been driving the car now for a few weeks since John repaired it, and it is doing great. We are happy with his work and his customer service and will be going back to him for the rest of the repairs in the future.
I trust them and so should you.
I just moved to the San Jose area from Santa Barbara, having left behind my trusted mechanic who had serviced my car every 3,000 miles for the last 5 years. So, I was very hopeful that I would find a mechanic in the area that would take good care of my car. After reading Yelp reviews I chose to bring my car to Honda Acura of Campbell.
Everything about my experience with John from beginning to end was absolutely thorough and professional.
Two hours after I dropped off my car for a regular servicing, John called to let me know that he came across some very important parts that needed replacing as he got further into the inspection of the car.
We discussed budget, and pricing in great detail. Everything started to add up to much more than I was originally planning on spending. So, John gave me some options, since I was not expecting that the car needed so much work. After some discussion, I decided to have absolutely everything done that he recommended.
John had to keep the car an extra day, and then even called me another 2 times when he came across more things of concern as he continued to work on the car.
The next day when I arrived to pick up the car, it had already been washed!
I walked up to the car, and the hood was propped up, everything underneath looked new. The car was running, the engine purred. I have never heard my car sound like that before. John showed me all the things he had replaced, and had obviously power washed everything under the hood. I was totally blown away.
John was so excited to show me how great my car was running, he asked if we could take it for a test drive before I left. I have never in my life met a mechanic who expressed such pride in his work .
We took my car for a short drive, and I was amazed that it felt and drove like a BRAND NEW CAR. John made quite an impression with his caring service, professionalism, and pride in his work. I absolutely recommend him.

Best mechanic I've ever had the pleasure to pay for fixing my car. I like having a good mechanic, and since moving to the bay area, I must say that John is my first and only choice. He showed me everything that he saw when he looked at my car, carefully explained what was what, helped me evaluate the importance of the various repairs, cut me deals on labor and parts, and generally impressed me as a man who takes pride in his business and who takes care of his customers.
John has worked for Acura and Honda dealerships and knows his way around both models. How did I find John? Through AAA. I was actually buying Renter's Insurance through them and I the guy referred me to John's shop. He said that John services the cars of AAA employees. At the time, I was also trying to locate a reputable automechanic. I was fed up with the dealer who charged me an arm and a leg for every little thing.
I've brought my Honda Accord here for the last two years. He's fixed my rotars and replaced my brakes for a little under $400 whereas the dealer would have charged me twice that amount plus John finished my car in 4 hours whereas I would have had to leave my car at the dealership for the entire day.
John gives honest advice as to what my car has needed. He's never been pushy in his services. The location is a little tricky but it is definitely worth the price and quality of work that is done. FYI...Call John before you come or make an appointment.

My Honda Civic EX needed service at 30K miles. I googled a bit and yelped as I always do. I couldn't find any dealerships with good reviews. Then I found this place. I called the owner John. He explained all the work that would be done on the car patiently and gave the estimate also.
The place might be a little hard to find as there are a few car repair shops in that block. We met him and left the car with him. He is a very pleasant person and has a good lady to help too. He then looked at the car and found that the bumper had come off on both sides. We asked if he could fix that too and he said that since his was not a body shop, he would try.
He then called us in a couple of hours and explained that the bumper would be a little hard to fix and that the air filter was recommended to be changed (every 30K miles). He also mentioned that some clips needed to be bought.
We went back in a couple of hours, at the exact time he had promised to deliver the car and found it to be good. My husband took a test drive and was quite happy. The charge was slightly more than what we expected because of the additional work that was done, but John gave us a discount. Overall, we are happy, hence the good review. WIll go back for the 60K service.

Finding a reliable, reputable and honest car mechanic is more of an art and less of a science - you typically find someone that you know and trust, then evaluate the work they do on your car for minor stuff, and finally decide on how good they are based on cost. So that said, I personally think this place is one of the best mechanics I've ever been to - other people I've talked to who have taken their cars here (and are sadly not yelp-savvy) echo this sentiment. I keep returning here for the major (60k, 90k) services.
John Phan the owner and master mechanic was introduced to me by a friend who was also his neighbor prior to him having started this business. John's work had been commended by my friend, so I thought I'd give him a try. Also, I had taken my car (a 2000 Civic) to the Honda dealer (on Capitol Expwy) for the 30k service and paid an arm and a leg, so I figured I'd see if John was any more reasonable for the 60k service. To say he did a fantastic job is an understatement - he had one of his staff drive me back home after dropping off the car, took only half the day to do all the necessary work, steam cleaned the engine, washed the car, and all this for HALF the price I paid the dealer. I was impressed. Duly, I went back for the 90k service and I've had him do other work (belts, hoses, brakes) to the car at different times in the interim. For the last three years he has been my mechanic, and I routinely recommend him to friends and co-workers.
He's never been pushy or salesman-like with me, as many mechanics are known to be - where they try to nail you by making stuff up and trying to get you to pay for it to be fixed. John always shows me what items need to be replaced or issues that need to be addresses, and tells me how long I have before I need to do that so I can budget for it properly. If I decide not to do it, he tells me what to look for or identify to tell if the problem is getting worse or is irrelevant. And he never calls and harasses me about whether I've made a decision, preferring to let me make that decision instead.
All of this makes for a five star experience. His location is pretty nuts to get to, but once you do you won't stop going back.
