10 reviews for Homewood Suites Hotel
Dynamite location! This is a nice, low key city hotel. Not a place for folks who want/need fancy, it's clean, affordable and right in the middle of the near North Side. The one room suites have a small kitchen but you don't really need it because the free breakfast is more than I ever need for breakfast and on weekdays, the manager's 'welcome home' reception is a light supper with beer and wine. Now, you should be out there yelping for the many great restaurants in Chicago but, if you're on a budget, a bit to eat before going out allows less expensive small plate/appetizer meals and more for the evening entertainment.
The doormen were friendly, the front desk helpful (they handled a FEDEX delivery nicely) and the maid service unobtrusive. A block from the red line for easy, car-free getting around. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.
For the area a very inexpensive priced hotel with many advantages.
When you enter there will be a doorman. He is there as a valet and also to open the door for folks. Not bad. You then go up to the sixth floor to check in. There is tea, coffee, hot cocoa and spiced cider there too. The person working check in was courteous. There is also a mini store there but there is a Jewel-Osco close by so you can get things a little cheaper. The rooms are huge (got a king suite). Full kitchen, sitting area, door into bedroom, lots of empty space in the bedroom.
Laundry room on seventh floor. Only two washers and two driers but they don't seem to be used much ($1.50 per use -- quarters at front desk). The work out room -- some of the machines didn't work. There was a sign to use "Crunch" but that place closed a while ago. There are free weights there too. The pool is okay. The view is nice (19th floor).
I couldn't get my laptop to work in the pool area.
Breakfast was phenomenal. a lot of options and plenty of seating.
Monday through Thursday is evening food too and there is plenty there too.
Rates -- I paid 89.10 for a king suite. I'm sure it goes up and down as the seasons go but this was a great rate for what they give you.
Also, didn't use the heat (and this is January) because the heat from every other place kept this room warm. Might even run the a/c at times.
House keeping was terrific even with my whacked out schedule. They were super.
Only ding against the place was that anyone could take the elevator up to any floor. Very low security in that respect. Other hotels require a key to get past the lobby but then they have one elevator go to the lobby and another to the rooms. This hotel doesn't have that.
This was our main hotel for our guests for our wedding. We liked it because the rooms were all suites, and were all very nice. If you need a place where people can split a room this is a great option. All the rooms had kitchens as well, which we didn't really need, but it was nice to have. Rooftop pool was nice, as were the views. Free hot breakfast buffet in the morning was great too. Food was better than I had expected. Another plus when you have people visiting from out of town and you don't want them to have to worry about having to find a place to eat in the morning. Overall, no major probems, great rooms, decent price.
To everyone who wants a nice comfy stay in the heart of the city for a great price, stay here! This place kicks booty. Seriously!
Definitely a must-stay if you want to stay in the heart of the city, soak in the great sites of Chicago, and save money on cab fare. (Trust me, you do not save money by rooming somewhere outside the city. Saving $60 a night on a hotel 30 min outside the city quickly builds up to $100+ fees per day through commuting by taxi. Curse you, Hotwire!)
First of all, our room wasn't ready and the concierge holds your things in a secured area the entire day and it only costs a mere tip for their services. So we arrived about 10 am, had them hold our things until we finally checked into our room about 10 pm.
The next day, we checked out, but decided to stay in the city for some sightseeing. They came to our rescue by holding our things after we checked out until we were ready to leave the city about 9:30pm that day. I gave them $20 tip for their services. They definitely deserved it!
All service was extremely friendly and accomodating, our room was nice and roomy (separate area for the living room/kitchen and bedroom/bathroom) and had a spectacular view of the city!
In the morning, they have a free hot breakfast buffet. And if you want swimming with a view, the top floor has a pool.
Family was in town and they stayed here. I popped in on a few occasions to drop shopping off. The busboy was friendly, the rooms were okay but outdated, and they do have flatscreen TVs. not a fancy hotel but clean and basic if you are just looking for a cheap place to stay in the middle of all that chicago has to offer.
Just to close this issue. . . I did finally receive my credit to my account, along with a note from the general manager.

I was in dire need of a staycation but wanted to stay within budget limits and stay at a Hilton property to earn miles and points, so I chose this hotel. They have one bedroom suites ($94.50 with AAA rate for a Friday night), which have a separate living area, frig, kitchen sink, 2 burner stove, and microwave. The only room service is PF Changs, but there is a Jewel and Dominick's within a few blocks, as well as a gazillion restaurants. The decor of the room was pretty ugly and not as soothing as I had hoped, but the bathroom was quite big, there were TVs in both rooms, and the bed was comfy. There was a nice fitness room with 2 treadmills, a bike, and an elliptical, all with the attached individual TV screens, exercise balls, and free weights. There was also an indoor pool. Guests of the hotel also have free access to Crunch, which is adjacent to the hotel. The breakfast buffet (included) had a decent selection of foods and tasted okay for a hotel buffet, and I really appreciate that they had to-go containers, so I could take it back to my room. (Monday-Thursday they also have a free light dinner with wine and beer). There was also a business center with computers, printers, etc, but I did not use it during my stay.
Front desk service was friendly and informative.
I would stay here again, or recommend it to anyone looking for a budget stay.
This place is a total steal. For $160 a night, we were able to stay in a room with two rooms and a kitchen. The kitchen included a dishwasher, refrigerator, sink, even dishes. They also serve free breakfast and free dinner.. there was no room service though. Next time, I think I'll book this hotel here and stay longer so I can get some use of the kitchen. Located in Downtown, the hotel is also right across from Nordstroms and a small mall and right next a good sushi restaurant, Oysy. You really don't need to leave the block!
pros:
location
good service @ front desk
free breakfast & dinner
living room w/pull out sofa & kitchen
cons:
older building
dated appliances
no vending machines or room service
don't expect too much here - just your average hilton!
The Homewood Suites is a very pleasant property in downtown, though it is not that well-known. Take the elevator up to the lobby level to check in. The interiors have a homey appearance, so no wild designs or flourishes here. The rooms are like mini-suites, with a separate bedroom, full kitchen with more appliances than my own kitchen, and a sofabed in the living area. We did not pull out the sofabed, but it would have filled up most of the room if fully extended. The breakfast buffet is free to all guests, and it is not bad at all. There is an indoor pool on one of the higher floors.
