Review from DJ M.
Van Nuys, CA
I don't care for fancy hotels. If the hotel is clean and quiet, it'll automatically get 4 stars from me.
Why I gave it 5?
This waterfront hotel is in a plaza with a handful of restaurants to choose from (if you're looking for a quick bite to eat) and a fairly large, FREE parking lot. Every morning, they offer complimentary self-serve breakfast, including bacon, scrambled eggs and make-your-own waffles.
The location is great. It's close to most places you'd want to check out in San Diego. There's also a nice walk path in the back of the hotel, ideal for getting some fresh air. There's a Courtyard Marriott one one side but its other next door neighbor is a scale model navy ship (built right into the ground) that was used to train recruits. How cool is that?
By the way, what airplanes? I stayed there for two nights and did not hear one plane fly overhead. -

Half Moon Bay, CA
We needed a place for an extended weekend, and I prefer the Hilton brands...especially those with a complimentary breakfast. After a search on the Hilton site, Homestead at Liberty won the toss.
Located right next to the Courtyard Marriott, HS is very convenient to the airport, Old Town, and all the typical attractions around SD. Free parking, free internet, and free breakfast are some of the perks they offer. Additionally, Mon-Thu evenings, they provide free adult beverages and a light dinner (although the Thu we were there, it was hot dogs and macaroni...(ugh)).
The rooms are quiet, the TVs are HD, the bathrooms are spacious. Nice pool/spa area, and they even have a game room with a real billiard table!
In fact, there's only two real dings about being here.
1] the suites are spacious....except for the bedrooms themselves. Those are INCREDIBLY small....maybe a foot between the end of the bed and the dresser.
2] the breakfast, while free, consistently had extremely overcooked scrambled eggs. NO moisture whatsoever.
Other than that, I recommend this Homestead Suites property. Plenty of perks, and a good solid location are hard to beat! -
Review from Tim B.
Located in a light commercial district not far from Point Loma. Close to the airport, but unaffected by aircraft noise. Close by some excellent restaurants and bars (esp. Oggi's) this is an excellent businessman's hotel. Breakfast is OK, though the coffee isn't anything to write home about. Large, comfortable rooms with robust wireless Internet and wide screen TV. Rooms have a small balcony.

I absolutely LOVE this hotel. Their staff is great. The accommodations are more than adequate. The location is the BEST and their breakfast and dinners, although not 4 stars are included and their menu changes each day.
When in San Diego, give this place a chance.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Las Vegas, NV
This it not a very recent stay I'm reviewing!
I booked a 2 bedroom suite since it's cheaper then booking 2 separate motel rooms and we needed 2 rooms.
It was our first time at any Homewood suites and didn't know what to expect. I read good reviews about this one and it didn't disappoint.
There were 2 bedroom with a bathroom for each room in an impeccable condition. The full kitchen was nice, although we only used the refrigerator.
We didn't had breakfast since there are so many good places to have breakfast in San Diego and diner isn't served during the weekends.
Homewood suites is a nice discovery and we probably will stay again in other cities. -

I'm a fan of Hilton properties, so this property was among those that I evaluated for my trip to San Diego. We were not surprised that this property was as advertised. We like the location, and the free parking (which can be ridiculously overpriced at some properties). Got what we paid for, and more. This is where we'll return when we go back to San Diego.

Perfect location in San Diego that seems close to everything. The free breakfast and dinners are a great way to save money on your vacation. If you don't feel like eating the free meals, there are several good restaurants within easy walking distance. We stayed here two weeks and the suite style rooms lend themselves to a making a longer stay more comfortable. The staff is friendly and always went out of their way to make us feel at home. A great place especially if you have children, we don't yet, but expect to see the pool packed with kids. My best tip is to take your free breakfast to the 3rd floor terrace and enjoy a quiet meal and great view. Would stay here again!

Excellent! I will definitely stay there again! Rooms spacious and clean, staff friendly, large pool, free breakfast. So far I am a big fan of all the Homewood suites I have stayed in and this one lived up to their reputation.
Close to San Diego attractions and easy to find. -
Review from Kara V.
This is a pretty damn nice hotel. I've stayed in many hotels and this one is pretty good. No, its not super high end like the Ritz or some in SF, but better then I expected. I'm being put up here for just 2 nights in San Diego and was expecting something like a Holiday Inn Express, but this is nicer. The free breakfast is decent too. The internet works well on my laptop (always a priority!), so I can Yelp! Checked in without a hitch and the room (a studio suite) is very nice, but I might not be spending much time in it. It real close to the airport, but I don't notice any undue airplane noise in the room. I would stay here again!

This is a pretty new hotel, located in the newly gentrified shopping center that is Liberty Station in Point Loma, where the old Rosecrans base was up until the 1990s.
The area is spacious, quiet, and safe, and conveniently located about a mile from the airport and about 2 miles from the I-8 freeway. In the Liberty Station area there is a new mall, with Von's, Trader Joe's, Ace Hardware and several chain type eateries near this hotel.
Homewood Suites is an all suite hotel, with the free morning breakfast. The 1 bedroom suites are not spacious, but they do have 2 rooms separated by a wall and door, and a full stainless steel kitchen.
There is a sofa bed, a king in the bedroom, and two 27 inch flat panel LG TVs.
Although it is very near the airport, you don't here much airplane noise. From here, you are about 4 miles from Ocean Beach, Mission Bay, and Sea World. Downtown is also about 4 miles away, so it is a convenient location. There is a Courtyard by Marriott right next door, so you can pick which suites your fancy. Personally, I prefer the suites concept, but otherwise this places feels a lot like a Courtyard.
InFeb/ March of 2010, the rates for most full all Hilton's in san Diego are between $150 - $200, with the Mission Valley Hilton available for $125. This Homewood, which is supposed to be less service and less upscale than Hilton, is going for $170. So it has become quite popular for its location, space, and convenience, and now not as great a value, but still worth your consideration.
Being a suites hotel with a private bedroom and sofabed, with free breakfast and convenient location, this could be very popular with families, especially in the summertime. If you are young family, this could be a great choice. If you are here on business during the summer, consider the pitter patter of little feet interrupting your business conference call
This hotel has both 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom suites. It also has free Wi Fi, a big plus in my book!Listed in: Wanugee! Hotels, Wanugee! San Diego

Review from W. N.
Orange County, CA
First and foremost, I am a huge Hilton properties fan. It's all about the Hilton Honors points for me. I have had my eye on this property ever since it opened recently. I was stationed on this property back in the day when it was NTC. The bridge from Worm Island is right there and the U.S.S. Recruit is also on the property. Lot's of fond memories of my foolish youth when I was a sailor obligated to the United States Navy during one of the few modern peace time eras our country has experienced.
Within 15 minutes of checking in, I was not very impressed. I waited till past the check in time of four p.m. and at five thirty, my room was not ready. Within a half hour I walked in to my very spacious 2 room suite. The front desk bumped me up to a nicer room than my studio. My room was right next to an elevator. This did not end up being a bad thing, though.
The room was nicely equipped with everything I need to cook. Full size fridge, 2 burner stove top, coffee maker. Most important? During the managers social hour, I grilled a very nice rib eye from Henry's down at the courtyard over looking the channel. Homewood Suites have gas grills at most of their locations. Because I am of the opinion my cooking is probably better than what I can find on the restaurant scene, gas grills are another huge plus for me.
This property is close to Lindberg Field. Spanish Landing has a bike trail along the harbor that will take you right into the city. Little Italy, the Waterfront B&G, the Gaslamp District, Sleezeport Village, all with in an very easy bicycle ride of about half an hour.
The morning breakfast is presented nicely by a very gracious staff, but the food for the most part is institutional.( Mystery Eggs) The saving grace is the make-them-yourself waffles with strawberries and whipped cream. The same could be said about the evening meal, institutional but the straight forward salad bar will nicely compliment what you cook up on the grill. I am pretty sure I easily drank my body weight of Bud Lite at least one night.
Overall, great property for business travelers and families. Walking distance close to restaurants, Trader Joes and Vons. -

Palmdale, CA
Pros: the hotel is quiet, except for airplanes constantly flying over head, but the guests & staff didn't wake me up which is rare, free breakfast, kitchen included, nice appearance.
Cons: bathrooms are small only one small sink, beds are uncomfortable, after a couple nights my back is killing me, no DVD players in room but you can go check one out for free in lobby, one ice machine for the whole building very inconveinent but refrigerators have ice maker inside. -

San Francisco, CA
This is a relatively new property that opened about three years ago, according to my reservationist. She told me that I would love it, and I did.
I've looked at condos in SF with this kind of square footage and places this big generally run about $750-800K in a "transitioning neighborhood."
Shall we go over the inventory?
2 bedrooms (1 queen and 1 king)
2 full closets
2 full bathrooms
living room with full-sized couch and club chair
full kitchen stocked with all the necessary tools and equipment
I was totally blown away. And then I see the menu for the complimentary dinner served in the lodge, Monday through Thursday. This is in addition to the daily hot breakfast that they serve up. Eggs, waffles, cereal, oatmeal, toast, bagels... I could go on.
And then there's the outdoor fireplace (HOT!), heated pool, hot tub, and basketball court. All beautifully maintained and landscaped.
If I was a mom, this is a total deal for a family.
As a 20-something, this is a total deal for packing in as many girls as you can in a room for a spontaneous SoCal trip.
Until we meet again Homewood! -

Turlock, CA
It's always great staying at a recently opened hotel. But, this place is even great because of its location. It's less than 5 minutes from the San Diego International Airport, between 10-15 minutes from downtown and is within a new commercial complex called Liberty Station that features a variety of shops, eateries and services.
My husband had a conference at Sheraton Hotel & Marina. When they were fully-booked, we looked into this place and we're glad we ended up staying here. It's perfect for a family and the facilities are great. Their breakfast buffet is located by the reception area and is spacious enough to accommodate a crowd. And there are enough seats by the garden, which opens out to the waterfront. They have a good size swim pool and a game room with a pool table.
The waterfront isn't exactly a marina but I thought it was just perfect because it was peaceful and scenic, especially when the sun rises. Guests can stroll or jog along it. During our stay, we watched a swim race going on right in the water.
We didn't have too much interaction with the staff so I wouldn't be able to give much input on that aspect. But, I think they were generally congenial. I noticed though that they weren't replenishing the pool towels on a regular basis. We always had to make sure to stop by the receptionist to secure our towels.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay here. For the duration of your visit, there's a free breakfast buffet, free wireless internet connection, and free parking. You're all set! If this gets fully-booked, try the Marriott Courtyard right beside it.Listed in: Sunny San Diego

Stayed here (in a 1 BR suite) for almost 3 months. If you need a kitchen, with a nice, modern room, and a good location (between DT and the beaches), this place can't be beat.
Pros: excellent service, great location, nice kitchen, comfortable bed, two LCDs with HD, free internet and parking.
Cons (they're minor): uncomfortable sofa in the living room, the food for breakfast and dinner was average (some of the meals were pretty good, some not-so-much).
Overall, this Hilton property is highly recommended. The hotel management and employees were awesome: I definitely appreciated their hospitality. -

Dixon, CA
Homewood Suites at Liberty Station is hands down, the best hotel I've stayed at in San Diego. It's got a great staff, the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, two huge flat screen televisions, free parking, free internet, a nice pool, on the waterfront, near several other amenities, in a nice neighbor, and many other positive things to validate my statement. Just when you were thinking it couldn't get any better than that, you find out there is free breakfast everyday and then free dinner Mon-Thursday that includes free beer and wine which is bud light keg and some various wine bottles. This place is the bomb if you're on business travel. You're totally going to bank your per-diem unless you have to submit receipts.
This place is a score. I really like it and enjoy staying here when I can.
One last tip, the dinner isn't a steak from Ruth Chris steakhouse, it's more of some meatloaf, low budget veal kind of stuff and salad, but it will fill you up and get you through the night if you're trying to be chincey. The breakfast is pretty good with cereal, toaster, waffle iron, fruit, and some meat, biscuits, eggs or something similar. -

Fantastic! Staying here on points, and have a 1-br suite (large) - got groceries at Trader Joe's, within a mile, and cooked in the room, which overlooks the water. Husband is out checking out Oggi's - brewery across the parking lot. Kids sacked out in the bed. Will be back!

We planned a last minute trip to San Diego for Labor Day, and after looking at several hotels with suites we opted to go for an actual hotel with nothing but suites. Wasnt sure what to expect, but i must say, I WAS IMPRESSED! Super nice hotel with kitchen, dining table, living room and the most comfortable bed than any other hotel ive ever been. Location is amazing...minutes away from pretty much anything...great place i tell you. So why the 4 stars you ask? I took away a star because there is no door that seperates the living room from the bedroom...just a plain door way =/

My husband and I just had a wonderful vacation in San Diego and so glad that we picked to stay at Homewood Suites. Room was spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable. We loved having the full kitchen, pool, and free breakfast daily. It is also one of the very few hotels that offers free parking (other hotels were chargin $15 - 30/day!). It is extremely close to the airport and located centrally from all major attractions. We will definitely stay at this hotel again next time we're in San Diego.
