Miss Hazel will take good care of you- like she's your mom. She'll give you free drinks in the evening, cook you a hot dinner, and even give you the tips on the area.
Free microwave popcorn in the rooms, free wi-fi, free coffee all day, free parking, expansive free breakfast... it's just like living with my parents again.
The location isn't good though, unless you have a car. There's good running along Embarcadero to the harbor or to Jack London Sq, and there's a pool too.
Not horrible for a category 3 Hilton but I wouldn't pick this location to stay for leisure. It was fine to be here while in Oaktown for work - close enough to the airport, but you really need a car if you want to get around as the closest BART station is not in walking distance and in a totally sketch area after dark. They do offer a shuttle service, but the last time they'll pick you up is 8.30 pm which is way too early.
The complimentary breakfast and cocktail hour were just okay. I pretty much stayed away from the hot food for breakfast, but the continental breakfast was just fine. For the cocktail hour, they have food, but it's not anything I would pay money for - if you're the type to eat something because it's free, that might appeal to you. They serve crappy domestic draft beer and wine.
As far as the rooms are concerned - no issues with that. Also, I was happy that the wi-fi was available in my room - thinking that was just luck because my room was pretty almost right over the lobby on the third floor. The even numbered rooms are on the freeway/train track side, so if you are a light sleeper, you may want to request a room on the other side of the hotel.
Their staff was very accomodating - received excellent service each time I needed service from their staff. I wish I could give half stars because they are closer to 4, but can't justify it for a few reasons...

I love this hotel. The rooms are big and comfortable, the hotel is clean and the staff is just waiting for you to ask them for something because all they want to do is help!! They make you feel very much at home.
It's great they have their breakfast and dinner with wine and beer. But if you want something else, there is a small restaurant in the back corner of their parking lot called The Oyster something-er-other. (Forget the exact name, but it had Oyster in it, damn it) The last time I went there, I had some very tasty fried catfish and the drinks were so stiff that I had a mild hangover the next morning. Ok, it was more than a mild hangover, I'm not gonna lie. :)
Homewood Suites in on the waterfront about 20 minutes from the Oakland Airport, depending on traffic. It's also less than 10 minutes away from Jack London Tourist Trap. Have fun!!

Very comfortable lodging on the Oakland Marina, near Jack London Square. I've booked a room here for my visiting family once, and another time to use as a temporary home office while repair work was done in my home. The rooms are large, with generous space in the sitting area, and have a cute little kitchenette with stove, microwave and full size refrigerator.
Rooms on the West (waterfront) side of the building are considerably more quiet because the East facing rooms are a stone's throw away from the always-busy I-880 roadway.
There's a decent gym on premises, free grub and beer every afternoon, continental breakfast every morning, and a lovely marina porch area right on the Bay Trail with 3 gas BBQ grills to enjoy.

My girlfriend and I stayed three nights here and we had a great experience. Our suite was about the size of a small studio apartment and was very clean. There were no stains on the sheets or carpets, and the dishes and bathrooms were spotless. Not only were we allowed to bring a dog, but they never even charged us the mandatory $50 fee! The breakfast was tasty with a surprisingly wide selection (including waffles!) Amazingly, they also provided dinner, although the vegetarian pickins were slim (salad from a bag). However, they made up for their carnivorousness with complimentary beer. Overall, I highly recommend the Homewood Hilton in Oakland, but if you're a light sleeper you might want to look elsewhere since it is quite close to the highway. Personally, I slept like a log on the comfortable bed :)
Average for its class. Rooms are modern and clean. Perhaps slightly larger than typical. Kitchenette was spartan, with a mini-fridge, small microwave, and no dishes. Coffee and microwave popcorn complimentary.
Amenities are standard. Wireless internet in lobby and dining area, but wired only in the rooms. 27" cable TV.
Fitness room is small and lacking, with only three low-end machines: treadmill, stepper, and cycle; and one small rack of dumbbells. Mediocre running partially along the bay interrupted by private property setbacks.
Rooms on freeway side suffer from heavy traffic noise 24/7.
Breakfast includes cereal, fruit, toast/bagels, etc., plus one or two hot items, juice/coffee. Not bad.
Staff was polite and friendly.
