A decent spot to stay, when visiting NY.

We've stayed here twice already, for trips out to NYC. This place is approx 36 min away from NYC, depending on traffic and the route your GPS will take you. Since NY is already off the walls expensive, we always stay here since they're pet friendly and they offer competitive prices, with an "ok" drive from NY.

Homestead Studio Suites is the very basic, basic, basic hotel. When we travel, and we know we'll be out on the town for the most part, we only look for our most basic needs--a roof over our head, electrical outlets, a hot shower, A/C or heater, and a bed to sleep on.

They do not offer shampoo, conditioners, and all that. In fact, all we had were two bars of soap. But if that's really a big deal to you, Walmart is literally two blocks away. We bring our own shit anyway. Their rooms seem pretty clean, but they are extremely outdated. They do have a kitchen with a full sized refrigerator and two burners to cook on. They don't offer any dish washing soap or sponges, though again--Walmart is just around the corner. Besides, I think its kind of gross to use their things. But if you're on a budget and traveling with family, and are willing to cook while on vacation, you're welcome to do so here.

The bathroom was very basic. A nice large mirror, with a spacious vanity. (I highly appreciate this so I have room to get ready with all my makeup and hair products) The shower seemed clean, though they need to re-caulk the lining of the tub in room 114. Its beginning to mold. Towels were typical for a cheap hotel, crusty and rough, but they get the job done. And quite frankly, I could careless since my focus is to travel, not sit and enjoy our room.

The bed was pretty crappy and old. It bounced and squeaked a lot. The pillows were alright, but the bed sheets were really shitty. They didn't breathe well at night, so we woke up kinda sweaty even though the room was cold with the A/C set at 65 degrees. Their TV seems to have an automatic timer, to save energy. When we leave it on, we'll notice it turns off by itself, unless the place is haunted. Haha. Though our friends that stayed in another room near us said they encountered the same thing. No biggie.

They are pet friendly, with a fee per day. When we went, it was $25 per night. They do not offer any complimentary breakfast, but they do have vending machines near the front desk. I wouldn't purchase things here though, since Walmart is so close by. My husband bought a disposable razor and shaving cream for $1.75 from the vending machine before we knew walmart was near. It was so crappy that it hurt him to use. Also, to keep rates low, you do not get the cleaning service daily. In fact, I think they offer you one cleaning service after your 7th day stay. You can request a cleaning service done if needed for an additional fee. Replacement towels and toilet paper can be requested for free during your stay though. I kinda like them staying out of my room when I'm there. I never trust the cleaning ladies since I've had shit stolen before. :[

They do offer AAA discount, but not Military discount, though they would be happy to work something out with you if you are interested in staying. For the amount you're paying for, its extremely affordable compared to staying in the city. If you're like us, and think its worth it for the most basic needs, this place is alright to stay at. If you're planning to spend more than just sleep and shower in your room, then you may not enjoy this place. For us, its perfect.

When we stayed here for two nights during Memorial Day weekend, our total for two nights was $185 and some change. That's a holiday weekend rate. I remember paying some ridiculously cheap price last winter when it was off-season something like less than $60 a night. Unless we find a more convenient way to get into NYC and a cheaper, more updated place to stay, we'll be coming back here.

Not the swankiest place, but I was comfortable and safe at this place. There's a kitchen with a full size frig and freezer, kitchen sink, electric stove, microwave, coffee pot, pans and utensils. The wireless internet was less than five bucks for the duration of stay! And it was pretty fast.

There are on site laundry machines. There's no pool, spa or fitness center.  They supply soap and coffee pouches. There were no lotion, shampoo or conditioner supplies in my room. I don't know if that is normal.

Staff was friendly. There's a Walmart and Pizza Hut super close.

I was a bit apprehensive when I received this hotel from Priceline. It was not listed on any of the hotel lists on the websites used to assist in bidding at PL. So this win was a first. After I saw this was the property I received I went to trip advisor to read reviews. To say I was unpleasantly surprised would be an understatement. I almost considered just calling in a loss and booking another property for the night. However, I decided to at least check it out for myself and then decide. While this property can in no way be described as luxurious, it wasn't as bad as I feared. The location is great, and the lobby area was clean and smelled good. The staff was friendly as well. The hallways were OK, didn't smell bad or appear unusually shabby. The room itself is a bit dated. Definitely could use some sprucing up as far as furnishings. However, it was reasonably clean and served it's purpose. While I probably wouldn't stay again, only because I prefer a tad bit nicer accommodation, nothing too upscale, just a little more eye appealing. I like the newer remodeled Holiday Inns and Fairfield Inn's with their comfy beds and more modern decor. But in a pinch, if you needed somewhere decent to lay your head for one night, you could do worse.
