1 review for Homestead Studio Suites Hotel
I recently stayed here for a month while searching for more permanent digs. First and foremost, this place is cheap. I even found a coupon with a bit of google-foo. It was the cheapest option I could find short of craigslist.
During my stay, I had a few problems worth mentioning:
1. Internet. Internet was horrible. They use a third party called Stayonline. They only offer wireless. No ethernet. It was slow. Almost unuseable most of the time. During 4 days of my stay it was completely offline. The front desk could offer no help or time when things would be fixed. I'm just glad I could tether my phone when it was out all together.
2. My freezer was barely a cooling chest. I did call the front desk about this, and they offered to allow me to switch rooms or wait a couple days for someone to fix it. I took the latter option, after which my ice cream was no longer a melty mess.
3. The staff are too eager to give new room keys. I had to get a new key a few times, and regardless of whether I had seen the person at the desk before or not, they gave me a new key without question. No ID, nada.
4. When I needed quarters for the on-site washing machine, the front desk person told me they had just run out. No other options or help offered. When I asked where the closest place to go for quarters would be, the person said they thought there was a Safeway somewhere near by.
About the room: I had a floor level corner unit. The decor is dated, but all the essentials were there. The living area had a bed, dresser, TV, and large closet. Only four hangers were included, so you might want to bring some. Closet contained ironing board and iron. TV was an older CRT with so-so clarity on the cable. Cable had 30 or so channels including two Showtime channels. The kitchen had a small electric range, microwave, refrigerator, and sink. No oven, but I didn't need it. In the cabinets I found plates and utensils for two. Bathroom had a tub/shower combo. No complaints on noise. Walls seem to be thick enough. Another thing worth mentioning is they will take pets for a small fee. All the rooms have private entrances which don't require you to pass by a front desk. Parking is abundant and free. There is a weekly room cleaning service included which always did a nice job.
Location: I was originally worried I would be without a car for a while. Although that didn't happen, I did find I could walk to the Safeway supermarket, Target, banks, Petco., etc. Nothing is in the immediate complex, but there are a good number of things within about a mile radius.
Overall, it suited what I needed. The staff could have been more professional, but for the price, it would be hard to beat.
