4 reviews for Homestead Studio Suites Hotel
let's start with the good:
* kitchen spatula readily available. see http://snurl.com/ady11
* pretty much across the street from the south end of the microsoft campus. nice and close for early morning training start times :\
* hella cheap. the equivalent of $60 per night (for a two night stay)
* i like the soap they have here. it smells good and it has grainy things in it.
* the one staff person i met at the front desk is nice.
now, the bad.
* the room smells vaguely of smoke.
* i wonder when the last time the carpets were vacuumed and/or steam cleaned.
* uhh, there's no sheet covering the box-spring (not BAD, just ghetto).
* the pillows are useless
* the shower curtain smells a bit mildewy.
* the silverware looks a bit dirty, but it could just be water stains (i'm hoping they are)
i'm glad i'm only here for two nights...the person that checked in before me is here for 29 days. :O poor thing! next time i'm in the area, i'll have to think twice about staying here again. i love how it's so close to microsoft and half the price of other hotels, but umm, yeah. nas-tay.
p.s. internet is like $4.95 for your entire stay, no matter how long.

I wouldn't call this a hotel. Hotels have bellhops and room service, and lobbies with a bell you can ring. Hotels have a bar, and a pool, and an elevator.
This is a motel. Motels are places where you park near your room, and you have to draw your curtains at night because otherwise headlights will shine in. Motels are places where there are unidentifiable stains on the carpet, and the "art" on the wall is screwed down.
This motel is a "studio suite" motel, which I think is a contradiction in terms. Something can't be both a studio and a suite. What we have here are studios. Hotel rooms with a kitchenette. You get a TV (more about this later), a king size bed, a closet with mirrored sliding doors, and a breakfast bar. Beyond the bar is a two-burner electric range, a tiny kitchen sink, a microwave, and a refrigerator. You also get a toaster and a coffee maker. You may find some pots and pans in the cupboards, you may not.
The cable here is the worst. It's like a tease for real cable. You get a premium channel... but it's Showtime. No Comedy Central, no MTV, no VH1, even. The only thing that ever seems to be on is Nancy Grace shouting at Sean Hannity about Bill O'Reilly and reruns of the World Series of Poker. Oh, and that show about crab fishing.
When I first moved into my room, it smelled like curry. I'm the kind of person who thinks that rented rooms shouldn't smell like anything, but if they have to smell like something, curry is not so bad. I'm not sure that other people agree with me.
Oh, and the wireless internet is slow as molasses.
It's not all bad, though. The bed is not very lumpy and the towels are clean. The room gets very dark at night and the air conditioner works. The alarm clock will wake you up with any local radio station that you want. The staff is not entirely surly, and the on-site laundry only costs a dollar for wash and a dollar for dry.

Being a solo traveller on a 2 week trip to the USA, the budget was something I have to bear in mind. It was my first trip to Seattle and I found the accommodation within reach of downtown quite pricey. However, I did spoil myself with 2 days at the Mediterranean Inn which I used as a base to explore downtown and the Seattle Center.
I was then looking for a cheaper base to explore the surrounding Washington area. I chose Homestead Studio Suites as they were offering a nice range of facilities for the price. Being Malaysian, I also wanted to dine at the nearby Malay Satay Hut.
The hotel is about 5 minutes off the 520, making it easy to get onto the freeway system. There are a few malls within walking distance offering restaurants and groceriy stores including a Safeway and Uwajimaya.
Check in was efficient. The room was basic but clean. A kitchenette included a fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and 2 ring stove. I didn't really cook and so didn't check out the range of pots and pans provided. However, I did use the fridge for drinks and watermelon and the microwave for popcorn!
It proved a reasonable priced base for exploring the Washington area.

As I sit here at the Homestead writing this review, I can't wait to change hotels! I checked in tonight and had to wait an hour at the front desk while the manager dealt with computer issues. Apparently there is no manual check in process -- really?? No back-up plan?? Finally, I was given a room and ready to plop my things down when lo and behold my bed was completely stripped with the sheets, blanket, bedspread rolled up on the arm chair. I called down to the frazzled girl at the front desk -- probably still recovering from the technical meltdown -- and she said she would be right up to make the bed. What?! Okay, fine whatever...just bring clean sheets. So, I checked out the rest of the room and noticed the bath mat was laid out on the bathroom floor like someone had used it -- hmmmmm, strange. Upon further inspection, there was a used bar of soap in the shower. Ewwwwww, gross!!! Get me outta here! So, after that I got a new room.
I don't care if my client is on a budget, I am not staying here again!
