7 reviews for Homestead Resort
Hands down the finest property in Midway Utah or in any of the surrounding cities.
We've stayed at The Homestead on more than a dozen occasions.
The main building is lovely, the bungalows are cozy, quaint and very nice.
The resort itself is about a 10 minute ride (via free hotel shuttle) to the ski slopes. For a sleight charge you & your group can also be transported up to Park City slopes & back. They also offer a free shuttle service to & from nearby Heber for shopping or the airport.
This property is about 50 times better in every way than their pretentious competitor, "The Zermatt" which is situated directly across the street. The Homestead exceeds them on every level including value for your dollar.
They offer a delicious and expansive brunch on Sundays. Full menu service every day of the week.
This property is legendary in the community. It's also the site of the old "Snyder's Hot Pots"...an attraction that survives to this day.
Bring your swim suit...even in the snow of winder. There's a comfortable entry way to a natural wonder on site: The Homestead Crater. You can swim around or even scuba dive in it for a small additional fee.
if bringing a large family or other sizable group ask about the availability of their condos. The condos are lovely and are kept in very nice shape.
I would avoid renting any of their full house rentals without seeing and approving interior photos first. The only one of those we rented was not as well maintained as it could have been.
it's been my experience that the management of this fine property is always receptive to guest input. They are extremely accommodating. Problems can arise at any hotel or resort..what matters most to me isn't that they happen...but what, if anything, does management do once alerted? Hence, my less than stellar review of the Zermatt directly across the street: http://www.yelp.com/us...
Tips:
* Ask them about any special packages when you book your reservation. They offer some wonderful package deals. It's worth asking.
* Check out their seasonal offerings during your stay. We all took their sleigh ride together in the snow. Our family members talk about it to this day.
* Take your "room Charge" stub with you when you visit their gift shop. It earns you a 15% discount on all purchases.
My team at the office went looking for a location near SLC for an offsite meeting. We were generally pleased with our experience at Homestead. Our criteria: golf golf golf with rooms at a reasonable price.
We booked 2 beautiful 4-bedroom townhouses on the 5th fairway for 8 coworkers. Expect that 2 of the bedrooms were set up as children or bunk rooms (and we were not told) , the Turnberry townhouses are wonderful. Amazing views, fireplaces. Worth every penny.
Food at the hotel wasnt bad, but it certainly wont win any awards. I especially note the great service and very friendly and accommodating staff. The spa is a nice addition. We splurged on an afternoon of facials and massage and it was a hit. We will be back for sure.
I took my husband up to the resort for a surprise getaway. This resort has many options in the form of packages. I went with the romantic "Sleigh & Dine" package. This included a nice sleigh ride with the most beautiful clidesdale horses. After the romantic "under the stars" sleighride we were dropped off at one of the 2 resorts restaurants. We had a wonderful dinner, sat right in front of the warm fireplace. The service was great and since it was a package, it was all paid for, even the gratuity.
You can opt to just stop there and make that the end of the night but I went with the package that also included a nights stay at the resort. The hotel staff was very accommodating with all of our waking needs. This resort also has an indoor/outdoor pool, natural hot spring whirlpools and even an Aveda spa where you can get pampered all day. Did I mention this resort also has a 55 foot natural hot springs crater where you can scuba dive & snorkel or just sit back and relax the warn 90-96 degree water. Very cool and a must see/do.
Our weekend ended with a wonderful all you can eat Sunday Brunch. All you can think of eating was there and it was all delicious. The atmosphere was very relaxing with live piano music. Reservations are needed for the brunch and actually pretty much everything you do there you'll need reservations for but this makes it just a much smoother process. We had reservations for everything and they were waiting on us as soon as we walked up.
Don't forget to hit the cute gift shop before you leave. They have home made fudge there that is to die for!! I think it ran about 2 lbs for 5$ so you can't go wrong and they had numerous flavors to pick from.
after 2 solid days of snowboarding with a 3rd on the way, we were in need of a rest day between sessions. upon the recommendation of some locals, we headed out to midway to the homestead crater, a 65 ft deep thermal pool. with water temperates hovering around the 90 degree mark (it'll hit a high of 95 in the summer) and a hole at the top of the crater for natural light to shine in, the crater was a welcome respite from the cold temps and high altitude of the mountain.
the changing area is very limited (basically a few curtains) so you need to time your exits carefully. the winter chill can be merciless for the wet-and-uninitiated. luckily i've had plenty of practice when stripping off my wetsuit in the parking lot after a winter surf session.
a few tips that some of the other yelpers failed to mention:
- call ahead to make a reservation (the crater is pretty small and space is somewhat limited)
- for non-guests the charge is $16 + $1 for a towel
- to check in go to the activity center FIRST, then proceed to the crater
I came up to Homestead with my family for the day, so I can't comment on the hotel side of the resort. We planned our trip so we'd be able to spend an hour swimming in the crater before having the buffet style brunch they offer.
The crater is a natural 96 degree hot spring that is covered by a mineral dome that has a small opening at the top where the steam it generates is released. Swimming in it was totally cool, something right out of the black lagoon. The air was incredibly steamy, I couldn't see across the 25 foot spring, and it created a great atmosphere. Because no one in my party is certified to scuba dive we just swam however guests can scuba dive in the spring which is about 65 feet deep. It was one of those once in a lifetime experiences, and for $11 it was a total steal. You can change there, however what they provide isn't too accommodating so I would recommend changing before arriving if feasible. And the towels they provided were small and not fluffy at all. Bring your own if you want to continue to feel good after you get out of the water. It's also important to make a reservation to go swimming as they limit the number of people to insure at least a semi-quiet experience; the mineral dome that encompasses the spring echoes a bit.
After an hour of swimming we were ready for brunch. The set up is buffet style, and they managed to do a good job of avoiding the often gross and seemingly unsanitary way most buffet food is presented. They had two ice sculptures that added to the appeal of the room, as well as a 3 foot fondu fountain.
I started with a typical Caesar salad. Moved on to assemble a plate of Chicken, baked potatoe, rice pilaf and sweet potatoe puree. For dessert I had a slice of rich chocolate cake, and ended with a small plate of fresh fruit. The food was good, but not outstanding. For a buffet, it was above the average good. Oddly enough, I think I was most surprised by the cup of hot chocolate I got, it was awesome. I'm a very price conscious person, and in the end the $30 tag for brunch seemed a little steep to me. But you know, after an hour of swimming and a walk around the resort food is what you want and those things together for $44 seem like a great morning and afternoon at a decent price. I'm glad I went.
For being one of the only resorts in Midway Utah, the Homestead was very accomodating. People were friendly and willing to assist in every way. They do need to work on their food, not to tasty!
I really enjoyed my stay here this past weekend. The staff was very accommodating to our every need. They have condo type rooms that sleep up to six people and are stocked with every amenity. It would actually be a perfect place to have a family reunion. On the grounds they offer everything from live music, a full golf course, and all other sports you could think of. It is about 30 Mins outside of Park city so the $50 shuttle in gets a little old, but if you are looking to get out of the city and spend a little QT with nature...this is your place!
