I'm a devoted fan -- I love their vegetarian pizzas (I've tried all of them) and prefer the whole wheat crust, which bakes up crispier and is more flavorful than the white flour crust. This location is staffed by super friendly people (amazing for Hyde Park) and the delivery is prompt.
Yes, Homemade is a bit more expensive but if you are in the mood for the college-pizza-train like Pizza Hut and what-have-you, the flavors of these pizzas will probably not work for you.
I can't stand the fake, greasy ingredients in chain pizza and love the freshness of these pies --- they are perfect for dinner parties and were a hit at super bowl parties.
I don't really get why this chain exists. Do people really want to order pizza, wait for it to be made, go pick up it or have it delivered, and then bake it themselves?
I always thought the whole concept was stupid, but at Yelp Summerfest I got a coupon for a free pizza here, and I like all free things!
My fiance and I went and grabbed a couple of pizzas (he also had a free coupon), a couple of salads (because his grandma loves their spinach salad), and a chocolate chip cookie. Even with the pizzas being free (and pretty small if you ask me), and the salads being half off, we still spent just about $20.
The Miesian pizza was good. I really enjoyed this one. You could taste how fresh everything was.
I did not care for the Spinach Pie, but I don't particularly love spinach, and I hate feta. So that just wasn't the pizza for me.
The Spinach Salad was good. I liked the cranberries and pine nuts on top.
The Cabo salad is delicious! I could eat that for lunch everyday!
Mon-Wed during the summer, salads are $3 for a small, and $5 for a large. They are definitely worth that! I may pick up some salads to take to work for lunch!
The chocolate chip cookie was not good. It smelled and looked like a homemade cookie, but it did not taste like one. I think the nestle tollhouse cookie dough makes better cookies than this one (and I don't care for those either! Real homemade chocolate chip cookies are way better).
Oh, and the staff here was so nice! They explained how to make everything, and were really polite.
So even though I think the concept of this is dumb, at least the pizzas and salads are good. If you can get them on sale, they are even worth the price. And in the end, I would be willing to go back and try more of their pizzas. But I will stick with the Cabo salad, I don't need to try any others :)
"Homemade Pizza Co. and Binny's Beverage Depot need to be right by each other because they go hand in hand with each other. They are the perfect combination! I love them both and I was so pleased with this place. Just scrumptious food!" ----This is what I had imagined I would say when I sat down to write my review. Unfortunately, I can't say this and feel as if I'm being honest with my yelppers.
I was really excited about it, I mean, really excited. I ordered the spinach pie, which is fine. You have the choice of putting kalamata olives on it or on the side. I did the side and sprinkled some on one half before tossing in the oven. I would recommend going easy on the olives. They tend to overwhelm the pizza and can be a little salty.
The crust was nice and thin, but not too thin and crispy. I just wasn't blown away with the pie. The spinach pie is also olive oil based. So, that's a nice change. You can create your own pizza, so that's a good thing too.
Pros: (1) The ingredients do appear to be fresh. So, that's always good. (2) The crust does not overwhelm the pizza. Usually, pizza has way to much dough, and it just kills the pizza. (3) The ingredients make it really easy to make at home.
Cons: (1) The flavor of the pizza wasn't potent. I mean, I could have been eating any kind of pizza. (2) The PRICE. It was 18.35 for my large. If it was uber yummy, I would have been fine with the price. (3) It's just not that good.
I will return to Homemade Pizza Co, just not sure when. I wasn't crazy about the Spinach Pie, but they have tons to offer, so I will just try something new. The Spinach Pie is really popular, so if you've been wanting to try Homemade Pizza Co. I say go for it. It really depends on the kind of pizza you like.
For interested in a healthy, delicious dinner, Homemade Pizza Co is the place to be.
Don't listed to the detractors who bemoan the process of cooking the pizza yourself. It takes 12 minutes, invigorates the senses while your home fills with the smell of good food and leaves you wanting more.
The employees are great also.
The pizza here is really good- I particularly love "The Georgia" which is topped with a red sauce, mozzarella, ricotta, sliced chicken sausage, and poblano chilies is my personal favorite.
I can see how some would say it is expensive, but I think the quality is good and what you ultimately pay for.
As for cooking it yourself- that is a good thing in my opinion. It comes out piping hot and you can slightly under, or over cook it just the way you want.

As an ex-pizza slinger myself, I have to disagree with some who have said "go ahead and buy some… Read more »
No dice.
It wasn't bad, but taking into consideration that you have to bake it yourself and yadda, yadda, yadda, the high price isn't worth the somewhat average pizza.
Lets see.....I am unable to assemble all the materials on a Pillsbury dough type crust by myself, so I will pay a service to do that for me.
If I cannot coordinate assembling my own pizza, what makes them think I can cook the damn thing in my own oven?
I am picky with my pizza.
So far when I was really craving some pie we basically had to head north and cross our fingers to benefit from a good day at Scappa Napoli. Pretty adventurous when you are famished....
I had my second pizza from Homemade Pizza a few days ago and it's just soooooo good. I have never been to the actual place but I have been told that their control-quality is top-notch. And you can definitely tell. The crust is amazing, a perfect balance between chewy and crispy, the toppings are generous, fresh and well-thought and I love the fact that you get to cook your own pizza - it makes it really convenient for me. A delightful discovery in my ever-growing neighborhood....
If I were simply rating the quality of the pizza, I would have given them 5-stars. The cookies are tasty, but I agree with a previous poster, go to the grocery store and purchase Toll House cookie dough for the same quality. However if I have to bake the pizza myself, I should not be paying such high prices!
My Mother absolutely loves this place, but then again she is a proffessional with lots of disposable income- she cannot understand why I, a lowly student would be wary about spending $20 on pizza I have to bake myself because "it is so tasty". LOL
I love Homemade Pizza!
Their Chicken BBQ and Miesian (which is really a pizza margarita) are super fresh and delicious!
To me the whole wheat crust is better than the sourdough. It has crunch and is just tastier. The sourdough taste too soft and doughy for me. Kind of bland.
Their salads are fabulous. I love the one with the pears and blue cheese which can substituted for goat cheese if you prefer. The spinach is also great with the balsamic dressing.
My three stars are for the flavor of the pizzas (yummy wheat crust and fresh toppings!) and the niceness of the employees. Minus two stars for the high prices. If I have to walk my pizza home and bake it my own oven I should get some kind of discount. You can buy a tasty pizza from Pizza Capri for about the same price.
If you're already in the shopping center and feel like warming up your house with the oven (not a bad idea in the winter), then give it a try.
I've tried their pizzas and cookies. Both have been great. I'm a big fan of the spinach and their special pizzas. All of their pizzas are great, plus they look and taste very fresh. The crust is a little heavy for my thin-crust loving self, but this is a good happy medium between real home cooking and the usual takeout. Haven't tried the salads but they look great. The cookies are tasty, but not worth the money. Buy a roll of Pillsbury dough for the same flavor for less money.
