Chicken Pot Pie Nirvana

My dining experience here was somewhat limited, and I definitely have to go back and sample more of the homestyle menu and warm hospitality.   Open until midnight, 7 days a week, you are guaranteed not to walk away hungry from any of their entrees.

The chicken pot pie, as mentioned, was an exquisite 5 star comfort food delight.  I will go here over and over again for my personal Old Faithful.
Ultra high marks also for the pear galette - a dessert not to be missed.
Also to their credit, the Mediterranean appetizer came with warm, fresh pitas.
They're only getting 4 stars from me because I haven't sampled enough to qualifiedly give them 5.

Home also generously participated in the Dine Around, Drink Around, Shop Around fund raiser for the AIDS and Breast Cancer Emergency Relief Fund.  Great food, and great people!

Aside from the fact that I can no longer button my pants - I love this joint!

We had a party of four and everyone got something different. We had a very nice server and started off with Spinach and Artichoke dip served in a Bread Bowl with tortilla chips for dipping. Delish, although we almost burned our tongues it was so HOT.

I jumped into a huge plate of meatloaf to see what all the fuss was about, and it very good. The mashed potatoes and the carrots that came along with it were also very tasty. At the table, the Pork Chop (new to the menu) was pretty amazing, served with spinach and sweet potatoes.

And of course for dessert - even though we could barely breathe - we all shared the Banana Bread Pudding. Don't be shy - I'm not a lover or even a liker of things like Bread Pudding, and this was BOMB.

Go hungry...go the gym the next day so you can get your pants back on.

I was here for the dinner.
This place is noisy but is it a good sign?

I am not into comfort food much since my comfort food are sashimi, ramen an curry and rice but still enjoyed it.

Yum. Everything ws great.

Reservation Sat Evening, and were sat almost immediatly. Pot roast and blackberry gingerale were yummy. Pot pie, hamburger, and macaroni and cheese were universally liked. The sloppy Joe dip was liked by others, but I would have rather had salsa (interesting appetizer for a first visit).

The volume was a little high, and the price a little steep, but still eeks by with 5 stars.

Home.

Kind of an appropriate place for us to end up on a night like that.

With no actual destination, we took a late night bus over to the Mission.  We walked a bunch.  Should we get something to eat here?  No?  Keep walking?  OK.  To the Castro.  Hey, howabouthere?  No?  Eh.  I have to pee.  Can we find someplace soon?

Up, down, Up, down... hills.  This place?  Nah, too crowded.  This place?  Nah, I haven't even walked in yet and I feel like I'm being tenderized.

Walk, walk, walk... walk.  OMG, what are you doing?  Are you peeing in someone's bushes???  Oh, for f's sake.

Well, I'm glad you feel better now.  I still have to pee like a waterdonkey.  No, I am not gonna pee in a bush.  We are going to find some place to eat, and I'll pee there.

So this goes on.  And on.  We walk.  Finally, we hit upon this place called Home.  I can't take it any more.  I have to fill the pool.  In we go.  The place is packed.  Crap!  Double crap!  I go to use the restroom and what I thought was a line to use the men's facility was actually a throng of folks trying to get the door off of the hinges.   Apparently, some dude passed out in there.

Seriously, I have to pee.  It's gonna be in my socks if I don't do it soon.  Hey, whaddya know-- we got a table, a two top!  I guess we're staying.  Great... I'm gonna shoot off into the girls room for a second....  ahhhh.... yes, relieved.  (I can't comment on the men's room, but it sure was a swell ladies room!)

So, that is how we ended up at Home.   Not entirely up to our free choice, guided more by finding a toilet, and a random "let's try this place" (cuz I'm tired of walking with my legs crossed).

That being said, I'm not so sure that this would have been our destination if we actually planned it out--if we actually knew what it was.  We DID leave very satisfied: full, satiated, and without heavy hurting bladder.

The place was packed.  And it was loud.  And they were still trying to get the door off of the men's room halfway through our dinner.  Somehow, our server (Gina, according to the receipt) kept a good sense of humor and timely check-ins with us.   We ordered forgettable cocktails with fancy names.  We ordered our umpteenth heirloom tomato salad that week (this was at the end of August).  We ordered a Mediterranean plate.  We ordered the mac and cheese.  We ordered a forgettable dessert.  We did $50 dollars worth of wallet damage here between the two of us.

You are correct: our dinner made no cohesive sense.  And if you saw us, we'd have looked like neanderthals to you.  We devoured it all.  Walking all night, up and down hills with a hunger and a full bladder, will do that to you.

Sitting there, watching out the windows, I was reminded of our actual home, Portland.  It was the angle of the building.  It was the layout of the buildings across the street.  It was the public transportation, the Muni and the Streetcar.  It was a nice reminiscence.  It did feel like home, out there, for a few moments, at least.

I have no idea what people think of Home.  No one recommended it to us.  It was a happy, strange-night find.  We enjoyed our meal(s), and were stuffed enough that our walk over to the Safeway was wobbly... all front-heavy.  No leftovers is a good thing.

I'd imagine on a less crazy night, the place has more charm.  But, if on such a crazy night as this, our service was splendid and food devourable, I'd be almost hesitant if they have time to think.

Did they succeed?  Yes.
Would we go back?  Yes, but late... after drinking.  And probably a lot.
What does it remind me of?  A diner.  Two places I have fond memories of.  Back in Baltimore, actually.
Recommend?  The Mac and Cheese.  (I kinda got the comfort-food vibe here).

If I lived here, I imagine I'd end up at Home quite often.  Maybe one day I can lock myself in their men's room too.

(Now, aren't I glad I didn't pee in a bush?)

I was actually surprised by the brunch here - it was really good.

I'd been here for dinner a few times and although, I thought it was good, I didn't think it was that great and a bit overpriced for what you were getting.

When I walked in, it actually smelled like breakfast...sort of like IHOP, but in a better way.  The menu had a ton of great items to choose from - I choose the Breakfast Sandwich (scrambled eggs and bacon in a croissant) and Brisket Hash (Niman Ranch Beef with grilled vegetables, potatoes and eggs).  It was actually really good...both items were flavorful and cooked very well.  Even before the entrees arrived, they served chocolate chip bread, which was very good.

While I wouldn't necessarily make this a destination, I'd definitely go back if I was in the area.

If I could give zero stars I would. The food was OK but the service was absolutely horrible. Our server Matt must have never waited a table before or was just blatently incompetent. And then after providing such crappy service he had the nerve to add gratuity to the bill!! Unbelievable. I will never go back to this poor excuse of a shack which they try to call Home.

What I like about Home:

The back patio area has a cozy feeling to it.
Happy Hour is everyday from 5-7 causing me to drink two Homegirls on a Sunday evening.
The meatloaf is delish and comes with a side of carrots and mashed potatoes.
The sink in the bathroom is way cool.
The bread pudding is one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth.
Overall the service was great!

Good comfort food with cheap specials.  I had the fried chicken that was savory but the mac and cheese was a little disappointing.  Loved their cocktail menu and I really enjoyed the "homegirl".  Happy Hour prices are awesome and there's a fun bar scene on weekdays.  This a fun neighborhood restaurant.

Sure the crowd is young and hip, but the food is pretty dreadful and the decibal level is deafening.  The wait staff was pleasant enough, but you could barely hear them over the roar. I can make a better salad and chicken breast sandwich at my own home!

Thanks to the recent ROTD, I decided yesterday night's dinner would be at Home. I'm a big fan of almost any restaurant that has a prix fixe menu and for $13, Home can't be beat.

I pass by Home everyday and I have always thought of it as a casual diner type of place. This is exactly what it looks like on the outside but once you get in, it's like you are at a different restaurant. My friend and I were seated in the fireplace area. It had pretty lights and mirrors with pillows on the sofa seats. It was very romantic! My girl friend and I joked about this dinner as a celebration for our 9 year (friendship) anniversary.

We were minutes away from 6pm which is when their $13 prix fixe menu ends but we put our order in just in time.

Last night's menu:
Garden Salad with cranberries and blu cheese,
Ribs over mashed potatoes,
Banana Bread Pudding,
and a glass of red, white, or house wine!

Happy hour was also until 7pm so mixed drinks were only $4. My friend ordered the Homegirl and it was yummy. I forgot to ask for dressing on the side on the salad so I was glad the salad wasn't overdressed. I could still taste the fresh greens and cheese. The ribs were so tender and flavorful. And the mashed potatoes were creamy and smooth. Before I knew it, dessert came. The bread pudding was dense and had too much caramel syrup but I happily ate it anyway. I was buzzed from my one glass of wine and I didn't care! I will definitely be back for more of these prix fixe specials. :)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BOO!

We came here for an early sunday Bloody Mary...... we had nothing but a bloody mary each, and it was one of the best I have ever had.

I suggest you come here and try one.  Service was awesome also.

PS: Dont use much of their bloody mary mix, but use tomato juice, and add the things you like.  I love that they have all the best stuff for making a bloody mary.

I came back since I was in the area. At 6pm, the place was virtually empty and I managed to catch some early bird special but I didn't care for it.
Server was WONDERFUL and very helpful.
I opted for the pot roast and a side of mac n cheese.
Pot roast was ehhh. It lacked a bit of flavor but it was VERY VERY tender. The horseradish cream on top was a nice touch but I found myself holding the salt shaker a good amount.
The mac n cheese though.. good. That's all I can say, GOOD.

I wouldn't say it's bad but I wouldn't say it's to die for.
Yes it's comfort food and yeah.. I donno. If it is super busy, it's definitely not worth more than a 10 to 15 minute wait.

Three years later, Home is still my favorite brunch place.

I am also thrilled to report I have since passed through the mighty portal into Those Who Love Bloody Marys, thanks to the intriguing Bloody Mary bar at Home. It is such a thing of grace and beauty. I bow to it like one would to an altar. "Thank you, Bloody Mary bar, you and your healing properties."

Sometimes service gets a little wonky towards the end of the brunch shift, but it's no big deal, because if you've rolled into brunch that late anyway, you're just grateful someone else made you eggs.

Just went "Home" for the first time, and it was great. We ordered the artichoke-spinach dip for starters which was delicious, then ordered the fried chicken & butternut squash ravioli with a side of brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were okay and the ravioli was a meager serving [that is usual for most places though] and a little too oily. On the upside, the spinach-artichoke dip is one of the best I've ever had! Also, the fried chicken with mashed potatoes & coleslaw was true, warm, delicious comfort food. It does get a bit noise post-8:00, but the food and atmosphere is good. I recommend Home when you're in the mood to eat something hearty and American.

The main thing you need to know about Home is that it is LOUD inside.  Do not come here if you want to have a conversation.

Do come here if you like an alcoholic libation with your upscale hangover grease. They have some with St Germain that are particularly delicious.  Everyone's all about the bloody mary bar, which is great I guess.  I find they put too much vodka in the glass and there's no where to get rid of the excess.  But the variety of pickled veggies you can put in your drink is pretty thrilling.

My favorite thing on the menu is the croissant sandwich.

Home is one of my favorite dinner restaurants in san francisco. For me, the service has always been attentive and friendly. Favorite dishes include:
chicken pot pie...yummy, flaky crust shredded chicken, which i prefer to chicken chunks.
fried chicken...boneless, crispy and juicy chicken breast and good mashed potatoes and tasty gravy. i'm not a huge fan of their coleslaw, but then again i don't really like coleslaw in general.
flat iron steak...good for the price, order it with a side of french fries!

i've also had brunch here once and ordered the california omelet. It was just okay; a little too expensive I thought. But my boyfriend liked the croissant sandwich. I'd stick with dinner though.

My only real complaint is the noise. Dinnertime on weekends can get very loud.

We're still fans of Home but I have to say on more recent visits we were not as thrilled.

One of our old favorites, the pot roast, was less flavorful.
New favorites are the chicken pot pie and the walu. The walu was cooked well and the veggies with this dish are superb.

I would describe the atmosphere as being in a bee hive---it is VERY loud and there is so much activity. Home is turning tables and packing diners in. Definitely not a place we would come for a leisurely dining experience. We were in and out in 40 minutes.

I've never been so sad to write a review before.

And for the record, as a rule if I have something negative to say, I keep it to myself. But as this was until very recently, among my favorite restaurants in San Francisco I feel compelled.

Also for the record, I'm about as decent a restaurant patron as you'll find. When I experience something bad in a restaurant (as I did on this evening) my first step is ALWAYS talking directly with the server (and management if need be) in as polite and constructive a way as possible.

I eat out a lot. I've also worked in many a restaurant. As such I know that the restaurant business is ridiculously hard work.

That said, the bad meal and worse service on this particular evening were not fixed by any usual proactive measure ... and so I write this.

Sadly my eating out this spring cut back as it did with so many others due to the recession and so I found myself at Home in late July after quite a long hiatus.

It was lousy.

For starters, I'm not entirely sure who the fool is who decided that taking the pork chop off the menu was a good idea, but if that's the new chef's way of making a mark - removing a staple - then they should perhaps be reminded of an old adage - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The pot roast was still there, and my dining companion ate it. She said it was fair. I tasted it myself. I agreed with her. The dish was lukewarm upon hitting the table, which may have been a function of the poor service (which I'll get to momentarily), but overall it was oversalted, the flavors poorly balanced and more fatty than it should have been.

My dining pal said the dish was saved by the mashed potatoes, which thankfully the new kitchen management hasn't destroyed.

As far as my own meal, I forget what I ordered for a main course, mostly because i didn't touch it after the inedible salad.

Again, in a brilliant (note tone of oozing sarcasm) move by the kitchen, they decided that using sugary sweet canned cranberries saturated in corn syrup for a salad was a good idea. Lucky thing I had asked for the salad to be undressed, because as it was the oozing goo from the cranberries rendered the already wilted greens utterly inedible.

Putting aside my sheer distaste for the entire meal, I have to say that the service was just about the worst I've experienced in San Francisco in years. It's possible that the young woman was avoiding the table because she was afraid that I'd ask her another question for which she didn't have an answer, but in my opinion there is ZERO excuse for avoiding your table.

If you are uncomfortable dealing with a patron, that's when you go to the manager immediately and ask them to step in.

She didn't.

I didn't touch the salad, and she never even mentioned that. Usually a server will come by the table and ask how the meal is. She never did.

The busboy came to take the plate and I asked him to send the server over. She never came.

Finally the main dishes arrived and as noted, it was inedible. I seem to recall something with pasta that was overcooked ... but again, I've blocked it out.

Again, no server visit to see how the meal was.

Finally she came and never even asked if there was a problem with the meal  - which is remarkable considering both of my plates were full with food. She did, however, ask if I wanted to take it home - to which I replied that as I hadn't eaten it to due to the meal being utterly unsatisfactory, she just took the plates and walked away.

She attempted to assuage us by offering a free dessert. We declined.

And then the bill came - with all items we'd ordered on it ... she didn't even offer to take the salad off - a pretty standard step for appeasing customers who've had lousy meals.

At that point I was just ready to leave and didn't feel like making a scene, so we paid the bill, and I stopped to talk with the manager on the way out.

He seems very nice but frankly with the lousy service and even worse food, I won't be going back to Home. Ever.

Went here again tonight and had a much better experience. The service was a lot better, but still didn't blow me away.

Both dishes we had were excellent:
-Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and coleslaw
-Baby-back pork ribs

The chicken was good, a little pricey ($15), but good.I was pleasantly surprised that the fried chicken was boneless. This was excellent because it made it super easy to eat. The mashed potatoes were good. Not the best I've had, but good. They lay the chicken on top of all the mashed potatoes though, so if you don't like your food touching then be sure to tell them. The chx was fried with a crispy cornflake mixture which was very good and crunchy. The serving size was just right.

The BBQ ribs were great. We did the Sunday night all-you-can-eat Ribs special for $12.99. This was a great deal and very good. The FIRST plate comes with 3 ribs, mashed potatoes, coleslaw and covered in bbq sauce. The ribs were so tender that they fell of the bone. If you like them super soft, then you'll love them. If you like them a little more meaty and solid then you might not fall in love. When you request more, note that they do not bring more potatoes or coleslaw, only a small plate of ribs (5 per plate).

Overall, the meal gained some respect and saved Home's reputation for us. I added 1 star from my original rating because it was good this time.

We will return again for a southern-style meal sometime if we feel like spending the money on it. I would recommend if you go, order a southern classic and veer away from fancy dishes.

I've been there a few times, and it's always nice, but this last time was great!  Last Saturday night, I showed up with 6 friends with no reservation.  They didn't have to accommodate us, but they really tried hard to find a table for 7 people.  She even said if we had more ppl show up that she would find extra chairs for us.  We ended up sitting at the community table  next to the fireplace outside.  The setting was beautiful and we had the whole table to ourselves.  Our waiter was stellar and came by to check on us periodically (but not too much!). He was very patient as well since we took a long time to order.  We even asked for two separate checks, and he happily accommodated us.

The food was awesome.  I had the fried chicken which was freakin delicious!  And my friend had the pot pie which was equally as good.

I'll definitely be going Home again.  :)

Let's see what I can remember...

I remember coming here after leaving the Yelp Elite party [Put the Disco back in Frisco] at The Cafe.
I remember ordering some mini corn dogs.
I remember I was hungry, but they didn't taste as great as they looked.
I remember eating Sue's yummy fries! MMmMmm..
I remember taking a lot of silly pictures!
I remember a funny bathroom sink!

Do I remember anything else? Should I have? Or should I be glad that I didn't???

There were 10 of us, well 9 adults and a one-year old, with a reservation at 8. Since we all arrived separately, so we were not seated.  We were told that we would be seated when the majority of our parties arrived.  That was cool, standard policy, right? The funny thing is that the hostess told us that four of our parties had arrived already.  You figure, the reservation was for 10, four arrived earlier, and adding the two of us that just arrived, hadn't the "majority" arrived?  But anyway, we were not to be seated, because when we look around, we couldn't find anyone else from our party.

Since the dining room was very busy, and it was a hot day, the smell became unbearable after a few minutes.  We decided to wait outside, where the fresh air was much more pleasant.  When we finally saw a familiar face 10 minutes later, he was walking down the street coming towards us.  Apparently, the hostess has confused our party with another one....duh.

Once we were seated, we were hungry, so we ordered a few appetizers: corn dog, sloppy joe dip, corn bread, spring roll, and the lamb.

Since so many people raved about the corn dogs, we had high expectations for the dogs. Eh...it tasted like it was fried and then set out too long, so they microwaved it to heat the dogs up.  Soggy...we were disappointed.  So was the spring roll.  It was, I hate to say it, disgusting.  Worst spring roll ever!

The corn bread, on the other hand, was excellent.  It was amazingly moist so the table ended up sharing 4 orders!

Anyway, the rest of the food was okay but definitely over-priced.  It averaged out to be $40 per person (we had 10, and only one order of beer.) The service was slow.  I guess if the gratuity is guaranteed at 22%, what's the worry?

Well, corn bread to go next time...and only the corn bread.

Home is easy. Home is safe. The dinner menu is pretty simple: lots of comfort food. Home is the kind of place I like to take out-of-towners when they visit and want an easy place to eat. (Plus, it's a simple roll down from my house on Church Street.) They are afforded a view of Market Street walkers, but they are never forced out of their comfort zone by trekking into the Mission or Lower Haight (some people are so scared of San Francisco...)

I know that everyone will find something that they like on the menu. I was upset when they removed the Garden Burger, but it was quickly put back on the menu (although sans the garlic aioli that used to accompany it, disappointed!) They do, however, seem to "run out" of things quite often. I've been told several times that they are out of Blue Moon or the Garden burger, much to my dismay.

Another great part of Home is the fact that they are open until Midnight, 7 days a week. It makes it great to grab a late-Sunday dinner, when eating comes as an afterthought to all your procrastinated work and chores.

If you can get a table, brunch is a great option on Sundays, boasting a build-your-own-bloody-mary bar. You get a bit of vodka from the bar, and you can go to town on all the bloody mary accoutrements. For munchies, the Corn flake French Toast adds a nice crunch to a usually soppy breakfast plate.

All in all, you know what you're going to get with Home. Safe and easy, but also delicious.

Home is OK. Actually, the build-your-own Bloody Marys are pretty wonderful (It gave me a good idea for a party). However, the food is just pretty mediocre from my perspective. I went for brunch with a few of my friends and nobody was particularly wowed by what they had ordered. I guess my friend who got Eggs Benedict was pretty happy, but its difficult to go wrong when you are combining Hollandaise and Canadian bacon. Anywho, I got a crab omelet, which was very bland despite the fact that it had "sharp white cheddar cheese" in it. The main ingredient of the dish was soggy under-seasoned spinach. My friend who got the Eggs Florentine was equally non-plussed with her spinach. Whats more, it was pretty clear that the breakfast potatoes were not made from scratch, and they had the cloyingly salty flavor of frozen Oreida french fries. Like I said, Home's brunch is mediocre. Was it terrible? No. Would I go back for brunch? No. However, I will say, the service was on-point.

Mmmm...mmmm....good!

This place is great for a casual dinner of delicious comfort food! On our menu that night:

Pot Roast, mashed potatoes, natural jus & horseradish cream - The hubby's mom makes a yummy pot roast so we wanted to see if this would be just as good. There's nothing better than mama's home cookin but I must say that this dish gets a thumbs up from both of us. Tender and tasty...

Classic Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, brown sugar carrots - This was just an OK for me but the hubbs likes it alot. My mom's is better...

Macaroni & Cheese - So apparently this is one of Home's popular side dishes. I just had to try it since I'm a mac & cheese fan and have yet to find one that I can can call my favorite. It tasted like it was made from gruyere cheese. To tell you the truth...it tasted almost exactly like the mac & cheese that I made last xmas (recipe courtesy of Food Network...and it was made using gruyere cheese). It was definitely tasty but for some reason I prefer it when it is made with yellow cheese.

Home's Killer Banana Bread Pudding (With Bourbon Sauce & Vanilla Whipped Cream) - oh my...this was soooo good! I can't say it was the best bread pudding I've tried...Town (in San Carlos) is still the winner in my mind. But it was definitely deeelicious and a MUST try!

Service was OK...prices OK (not too expensive, but then again not super cheap or anything). Also, it might be a good idea to make reservations beforehand. We went on a Friday night and it was pretty packed.

Next time I go there (and YES there will be a next time) I want to try out
either their Fried Chicken Breast or Chicken Pot Pie. And for sure their cornbread which I hear is scrumptious too.

Headed to Chow for a late night dinner, but when we got there we saw a sign that it's closed for a couple of weeks because they had a fire!!

We decided to give Home (across the street) a shot since it was still open and many yelp!ers seem to like it.  I ordered a chopped salad w/ homemade ranch dressing on the side (instead of bleu cheese), S.B. ordered the chicken pot pie, and we both shared some fries as appetizer.

I thought the salad was great, I loved all of the ingredients (lettuce, fennel, apple, bell peppers, pine nuts, green onion) and I gobbled up every bit of it.  The fries were also tasty, but the portion was a little small for 2 people to share, and there were a couple of fries mixed in that were totally soaked in oil.  S.B. thought the pot pie was mediocre, the filling was too soupy, his exact comment was "this ain't no Marie Callendar's pot pie" - I took that to mean it didn't meet his expectations ;-).

All in all, it was a respectable alternative to Chow on this particular occasion.

Good but not great... the omelette I ordered comes with avocado but they FORGOT IT. I didn't realize until after I had already finished the damn thing. Oh well, came on a Sunday during brunch hours.. not packed at all. Probably says something. Not to die for, but the service was quick and the wait staff friendly.

Had the Sunday brunch.  A big buttery omelet with a little bit of crab in it.  Wife had the brisket hash with a poached egg.
It was just o.k.
Felt like a diner with a chef instead of a cook.
Also, they gave us a plate of chocolate banana bread with butter and jam when we sat down.
That was good.  Not really bread, but who's going to complain about eating chocolate cake before your meal?

I'm not very inspired to go back Home, but if I ever manage to stumble in through their doors again, I will most likely eat a whole bunch of cornbread. And that's about it.

However, I did enjoy my leftover pot roast with it's horseradishy undertones the following morning while participating in some wii zombie killing.

I feel im at a age where i am just too old to be intertwined with a hangover.  But it found me.  It found me hard in the morning.  Bright sunlight and whispers that sound like firetruck sirens = no bueno.

Met up with "friends" for some brunch after our very long night.  I put friends in quotes (thanks jt, grammar nazi) because friends should stop passing drinks your way when your eyes get glossy and you can barely stand.  These friends practically held the bottle down my throat.  Ugh.

I needed something to soak up whatever liquid sin was left, so i went with the Crunchy Corn Flake French Toast w/ fresh strawberries and powdered sugar.  Mmmm, it was good.  But sadly i could barely eat it as my stomach was still very angry with me.  So i sat and listened to embarrassing stories of myself.  Bloody Mary please!  Build you own Bloody Marys are awesome, just awesome, especially when you're hungover and hurting.

Our waitress was such a doll, wish i could remember her name.  When i finished my glass, she took one look at me and said, "oh honey, i'll get you another."  Service was great and even though i didnt finish my food, my corn flake french toast was so good.  Never had it that way.  Everyone elses plates looked tasty as well, and with their build-your-own bloody mary, i'll definitely be back.

If for no other reason than I've started and ended relationships here, discussed how to start and end my relationships here, and advised others how to do the same, all while surrounded by the warm glow of a fire on a dimly-lit back patio*, this place deserves 4 stars. There's something about this place that makes you feel comfortable letting out your most heartfelt emotions to the person sitting across from you; no matter that the strangers 2 feet to your left and right can hear your every joyous outburst or notice the silence of your tears. I digress...

The service and ambiance are always great. Very attentive staff. Usually full place but you can easily get a reservation or walk-in with minimal wait. Definitely sit on the back patio*.

While the food is mostly 3-star fare, there are a few hidden gems you will find that bring back memories of mom cooking in the kitchen when you were 8 years old. Some of those memories will involve you asking mom not to make that particular dish again, and some will leave you wondering where all the delicious food on your plate disappeared to (certainly you didn't finish it all!). Notables for me were the Mini Corn Dogs (if my mom knew how to make those, I'd currently be on Dance Your Ass Off trying to sweat away years of delicious fried weiners), the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and the Fried Chicken Breast. Sloppy Joe Dip, not so much. But you must go and make your own decisions -- I can't decide for you how good your mom's cooking was.

Again, definitely sit on the back patio*, spill your heart out, and don't worry about all the carbs in the mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. I mean, you wouldn't upset your mother over a few carbs, would you?

*Not to distract from it's greatness, but the "patio" is a glass-covered indoor space with ceiling fans. The fire is amazing and makes the room glow, and if you sit next to it, you will feel toasty (great for a cold night).

This sounds crazy but they kinda have one of the best steaks under twenty bucks in the city! It's a flat iron steak that is tender and juicy and comes with a giant stack of fries (can sub for fresh green beans). If I'm feeling like an uncomplicated steak night that wont cost me $50, I head over to Home.

I really like coming Home whenever I'm in SF. Last night I had the Meatloaf w Mashed Potatoes, and carrots with a brown sugar glaze.
Yes, the menu is comfort food, and there's not a ton imagination with it...which is good, because you know what you're getting when you're in the mood for food like mom used to cook.
Check out their drink list if you want imagination. Happy hour is until 7pm.
It's right of the Church Street exit on the Muni underground train, as well as the F Streetcar line.
The staff is friendly and they take reservations.

If I travel all my life
And I never get to stop and settle down
Long as I have you by my side
There's a roof above and good walls all around
You're my castle, you're my cabin and my instant pleasure dome
I need you in my house 'cause you're my home.
You're my home.

Okay okay. So Billy Joel might be a little excessive to describe this restaurant, but coming here for dinner last night was a wonderful revelation in comfort food.

We started with drinks at the bar where I had "hugo's besitos" which is a concoction of ketel one, pineapple, raspberry and a couple other juices - and it instantly made me feel as if I were on a tropical island. Yummy. Once we were seated, the fun began.

I'd been eye-ing the mac n cheese, so we started with that, cornbread with honey butter, and their shrimp cocktail special, which was more like a shrimp salad salsa with tomatoes and grapes. For the amount of food, the mac and cheese was a bit pricey but certainly delicious. Crumbly and baked on top with tiny macaroni, it was rich and creamy and I could have downed five of those. The shrimp cocktail and chips was light and tangy but altogether not impressive. What zinged me (and one of my dining mates) was the soft, sweet cornbread with bits of corn sticking out of the center and the honey butter that came with it. The cornbread was lightly cooked on top to give it some texture and the inside was soft and melted in my mouth. It was probably made of some ungodly amount of butter, but fear not because someday you'll be dead and it won't matter.

For my main course I had the corn flake crusted fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cole slaw. While the slaw was mundane and the potatoes a bit dry (more gravy damn you!), the chicken was so tender underneath the crunchy, fried exterior. It was salty, but not overtly so and it goes so far beyond any kind of fried chicken you've ever had.

On the recommendation of Yelpers all over, I had the banana bread pudding, which I expected to be more pudding like. Instead it was like a piece of banana bread dunked into a sweet bourbon glaze with a glob of whipped cream and sliced bananas on top. Regardless of expectations, I tore through that dessert like a hungry fat kid. Sweet, and the flavor of bourbon came through minus the alcohol.

The whole meal was less that $30 for me. A great deal. Although the server seemed a little disinterested at times, she was still quite pleasant and the food was totally worth it. The only drawback to this place is that it's hella loud. But despite this, I will be back here for sure!

I highly, highly recommend coming here at least once in your life.

Everything was wonderful here. I wish I lived closer so I could come back more often.

We started off with the Mac N' Cheese as the appetizer. It was a hard decision between the Duck Spring Rolls and the Mac N' Cheese.

I went with the Mac N' Cheese. If your going for carbs go all the way with them. I told the 3 lbs I just lost Welcome Home!

I had the Meat Loaf Sandwich. It was the perfect home cooked meal in sandwich form. It had these Caramelized Onions on it that I want to put on everything now.

I chose the salad to go along with my sandwich. They mixed the dressing in the salad for you and my husbands didn't have enough dressing on it. So if you get the side salad ask for the dressing on the side.

Now to my favorite part, the drinks. Oh their drinks are amazing. My favorite was the Homegirl. Citrus Vodka, fresh lime juice, cranberry juice & triple sec shaken & served up with a champagne float.

Homegirl is my new home girl for real! We also had the Hugo's Besitos and the Homeboy. All very good but my favorite was the Homegirl. We had like 4 of them so they must have been good.

We were here for lunch and it wasn't busy at all. I made reservations online, via their web site, which was really convenient. We got there early and there was plenty of seating. Home is the perfect lunch spot.

The food was fantastic, the service was fantastic and most importantly the booze was Amazing!

I would love to come back here again and again.
