A nice, causal restaurant with good comfort food. Portions are big, so if you want a more reasonable meal, order a side dish as an entree. I recommend the mac n cheese, which is so rich that I've never finished it.

I was surprised that Home restaurant CLOSED. Yesterday was the last dinner service. It was often packed with customers during dinner and weekend brunch. And the Early Bird special was a good deal, although I always chose the regular menu instead.

Sad, no more banana bread pudding with bourbon sauce.

Those four stars above are not actually representative of my most recent experience at Home, but I'm going to stick with them because I know they're better than that. I think I just ordered something boring off the menu.

I went to Home (I guess I don't need the "to," right?) for breakfast and ordered the mushroom scramble. Not a mistake per se, but just a really unexciting choice. I probably could have made it myself. At home. HA! The potatoes, however, were very thoroughly spiced. Impressive. I tried a bite of my friend's french toast and wished I had ordered it instead.

The real draw at Home is the dinners, I think. I've had the fried chicken, the mac and cheese, and the brussels sprouts in the past, and all have been delicious. The mixed drinks here are also worth trying--they're strong and creative (and tasty, forgot to add that). And I'm all for awarding points for creativity.

I've passed by Home many times but never actually ate there.

We went in after getting hungry after Churchill because they don't have any food.

We were seated right away, the place is actually a lot bigger than it looks from the outside.  There was plenty of seating.

Staff was friendly and attentive and I was surprised that it was so busy for a Wednesday evening.

We ordered the pulled pork sliders to start.  It came with 3 small sliders with a side of cole slaw (very strong cumin taste, so wasn't my favorite)  The sliders were really good though.

I ended up with the buttermilk chicken which actually ended up a lot bigger than I thought it would be.  2 strips and one drum stick on top of a huge pile of yummy mashed potatoes and a side of lake green beans.  The beans were a little too oily for my taste.

The chicken was awesome.  Crunchy and savory on the outside with a sweet hint from the honey glaze.  The inside was nice and tender and juicy as well.

My boyfriend ended up with the pot roast which was also good, but his portion seemed to be so small compared to mine.  I ended up sharing part of my dinner with him as a good boyfriend does :)

I'd like to come back again and try out some more of the food.

I've eaten here twice since moving to San Francisco. My temporary roommates told me that Home was a quitessential San Francisco eating experience, especially in the Mission / Castro corridor.

I liked Home well enough, but I feel like San Francisco probably has better food to offer than this... well, actually I know it does.

My meals here were dinner and brunch, both of which came with great cocktail options. Brunch drinks are a stunner here, with the bloody mary bar and bottomless mimosas. I would come back just for the brunch drinks.

The food itself is effectively glorified comfort food, at inflated San Francisco prices. It comes with much talked about biscuits and honey butter, which was nice but not awe-inspiring in me. Ultimately, I thought their food was overpriced for the quality of it and the ambiance / service provided in this very casual, low-key restaurant.

I'd do weekend brunch or late night food here again, but for an actual meal... I'd probably choose somewhere else.

The name of this place is funny. They have a drink on the menu called the home girl that my sister ordered. I asked the waiter if I could call him home girl and he said call me whatever you want if you tip well. Sounds like we were both rude but we were just joking around and i thought it was funny.

Tons of wine and beer all over the menu. I ordered a local Ukiah beer called Bison beer which was tasty.

Pulled pork slider appetizers (3) were superb. Nice Cole slaw on side.

I ordered bacon wrapped meatloaf with mashed potatoes and veggies. Soooo good. I was blown away. The meatloaf melted in my mouth. 2 patties.

This place is in a great corner spot, comfort food that is presented well, and is cozy with older furniture though still feels somewhat trendy. I'd come back.

My boyfriend and I came here a couple of weekends ago for brunch.  On Father's Day actually.  I thought it would be crowded so I made a reservation but when we got there it was quiet, which was nice :)  We sat out on the patio right next to the bloody Mary bar. (Which I'm going to try the next time we go!)
On the recommendation of our waitress I had the chive and goat cheese biscuits with chorizo gravy and two eggs over medium on the side.  My boyfriend had the corned beef hash.  Everything was so good!  The mimosas were good, I'll come back for bloody Mary's and to try dinner.

A friend recommended Home so we decided to check it out... As we drove up Market St. I was hit with a wave of nostalgia pulling up to Home at Church St. and Market... Back in the early 1990's, this restaurant location used to be called Church Street Station-- it was sort of a Denny's type diner.  I think it was open 24 hours (?) or at the very least it was open super late because I seem to remember ending up here after leaving The EndUp.

Anyway, Home looks completely different inside now and the menu-- composed of comfort food, a variety of spirits, and tempting desserts--
is way better than I remember Church Street Station's being (not exactly a stretch, but still...).   I wasn't super hungry so I had the Greens Salad (Goat Cheese, Candied Pecans, Maple-Whole Grain Mustard Vinaigrette)-- YUM!  And to drink, had the "Home Girl" (Seagram's Citrus Vodka, Triple Sec, Fresh Lime, Cranberry Juice, Champagne)-- Delicious!

We were there just before the dinner rush so had no trouble getting a table and the waiters were cute, sweet, and helpful.  Pricewise, it's reasonable for San Francisco and honestly is probably not that much more than Denny's nowadays.  I would like to come back to try the Chickpea Burger or the Buttermilk Fried Chicken-- my friends ordered them and they looked sooo good!

I dunno what I can say that 1,085 other reviewers here haven't, but here's my attempt.

In my years in San Francisco, home was a good stand-by kind of place that always had good, if ultimately forgettable, food.  Build your own bloody mary bar on weekends, though, was always a welcome event when we decided to partake in it.

A recent Friday night dinner as a visitor to SF turned up some decent food (as usual), but some lacking service.

The little gem lettuce Caesar salad is very good (but it's also rather large - you should share it with someone).

The arctic char was pretty good, and the pan roasted chicken was delicious (also just the right portion, too, and the olives and tomatoes with it were great!).

Our server definitely missed his chance to upsell us on a second round of drinks when the entrees were delivered.  But he was just kind of going through the motions and wasn't really looking at what the needs of the table were (with three of four cocktail glasses empty, jump, honey, jump).

Plus he wasn't really willing to engage us in conversation - he just wanted to get to and away from the table as quickly as possible.  At a place like "Home," shouldn't one feel a bit more welcome?

I've given Home lots of chances and while I can't say I won't go back - that bloody mary bar is hard to resist - I won't be making any concerted effort to return. The food is mediocre at best - the brunch menu is diverse enough but Home just can't seem to deliver on execution. The corned beef hash with cubes of stringy beef seemed a good idea in theory, but on a plate in front of you it's just heavy and dense and unappealing. The eggs benedict too has always been somewhat sour or bland. And don't get me started on the service - "slacker service" would be how I categorize it at Home. All of my servers seem to try to exert the most minimal effort possible.

But that bloody mary bar alone is worth these two stars. So good.

    3.4 pints.

I really love the food here, and the Happy Hour specials are amazing.  I had the Wedge Salad ($8) which was hearty and tasty, just what I was craving.  Was also craving some fries, ($4) but was slightly sad when they turned up cold and a little stiff.  Felt like they had been sitting under a warmer.  Very well presented and the right amount of spice.  I dipped them in my Bleu Cheese dressing and they were good as new!

House wine was ok, but for $4 I couldn't really ask for more.  I have also tried the corn-dogs and mac-n-cheese and have never been disappointed.

Service was great, Mahudiel was friendly and efficient.  I still don't know how one can work behind a bar and text, but I'm old-school and out of touch.  It's part of the landscape these days and it didn't prevent bad service in the least.

GREAT for happy hour.  Comfort food for sure.

Pretty kickin' Vegetarian Burger! Excellent Moscow Mule & Lovely Margarita!

I like a nice "home" cooked meal when I'm in the Castro and this place offers a menu full of comforts!

NOTE: Anywhere at the bar is the best seat in the restaurant. The bartenders will take care of you, unlike the floor servers, I think they might be a bit more overwhelmed and exhausted, but maybe I've caught them on off days, either way, the bar has set the standards for awesome, friendly service!

Due to it's location, I sadly misread the name of the restaurant. Completely hungover, we missed Bay 2 Breakers. So we left the house at 8 am and decided to just go to the finish line and get our medals and T-shirts. Trying to figure out how to leave the finish line area, we were approached by 2 hitchhikers, in their underwear only. Turned out they were just young coast guards. My girlfriend allowed us to take them and taxi them to their location of Haight Street. I still swear she wouldn't have allowed 2 hot chicks to hitchhike. Anyways, still trying to figure out how to use phone GPS navigation, we passed by this spot, and all I saw was the word "brunch."

I ordered the steak and eggs, she ordered the corned beef and potatoes. I liked my steak as it was cooked to my liking perfectly, and the corned beef was legit, not the canned kind.

Bottomless mimosas were served. No, it means you could drink as many mimosas as you could. They are not served by pantsless servers.

The waiter was attentive and fast.

Okay....the mac n' cheese was lacking. It needed salt and the flavor wasn't as cheesy as I was hoping. In addition, my salad was swimming in a pool of dressing.

Overall....I was non-plussed with the food.

The service was great though! Super nice waitress and she was patient as we waiting for the last of our party to arrive.

Came here for brunch with a few friends. We ordered the steak and eggs and biscuits and gravy. The steaks that was ordered medium rare came out medium well. When asked how was our steaks, we mentioned that it was over cooked. The waiter just gave us a look and then walked away without even saying sorry or offering us a new replacement. Then when filling the water they over poured the glass and went all over the table. To top it off when cleaning up the waiter kinda shuffled our plates and one went flying across the table and the food splattered everywhere.

Two stars cuz I know the food can be good there, but the service is no good... no good...

Home used to hold such a special place in my heart and it actually makes me sad to say that it doesn't any more.

The first 2 or maybe even three times I went there in 09 were what Home should be about. A warm atmosphere and nice home-style comforting food. Things like pot pie, pot roast, sloppy joe dip, etc.

The last few times I have left feeling anywhere from just disappointed to robbed.

    Tonight was the last straw.

Really simple things are just not executed as they should be. It felt really difficult to get the attention of waitstaff. Shortly after ordering our appetizers, somebody else's pork belly and caesar salad arrived out our table.

Simple things like, when you serve somebody their burger and fries, the fries should be fairly hot.. and when somebody asks for aoili to go with their meal, it should arrive in short order. Instead I sat and waited 10 mins while my "warm" (being generous) fries turned cold.

The corn bread that was supposed to come out as a side during the meal arrived at the very end. Not only at the end of the entrees that came out first, but after the replacement serve of fries that I had to ask for to replace the cold ones.

The bun on my burger was blackened in parts, rather than browned. The bacon was not just crispy, but burnt. Aside from this, there was far too much bleu cheese on the burger - I can't imagine how you could expect anyone to enjoy a burger completely stuffed with something so strong.  Perhaps it's there to mask the burnt taste of the bacon and bun?

My partner's mahi mahi was blandsville - hardly seasoned and served with veg that seemed to have had it's flavor surgically removed.

The idea of Home is still something that I subscribe to -- if they could pay more attention to what they are turning out the kitchen door and the customer experience then it would possibly even be somewhere I would frequent.

For now if I want consistency, I'll stick with Chow over the road.

Home... because the mac n' cheese that everyone raves about tastes no better than mac n' cheese out-of-a-box that was made at Home? Yep, I said it. Mac n' cheese had NOTHING special about it. Mini corn dogs? Again, nothing special.

The drinks were hit-and-miss. The sazerac was good the first time, and not exactly great the second time. My friend had a pisco sour that tasted absolutely horrid.

The entrees, however, were pretty good. The pork chop was perfectly cooked and juicy, and was accompanied by a nice sweet sauce. The fried chicken was decent.. not as good as some of the other ones I've had around here, but still solid. The bacon-wrapped meat loaf was good, as well.

Well.. I have mixed feelings about this place. The pork chop was worth a return trip.. but I'm not sure about everything else here.

I had this review listed under Chow, DAMN simple single word named restaurants!!!!

3.5 stars, but seeing that I tend to be too generous, I have to round down. The basics; Solid American comfort food, friendly staff, good location. Specifically the mixed green peach balsamic salad was truly one of the best salads I have ever had. Very basic, mixed greens, peaches and candied pecans. The candied pecans are lightly coated and not as sugary sweet as the common candied nuts that have become en vogue for salads. The cornbread with the honey butter is a must have and no meal should be without.  Cocktails- I had a very refreshing vodka/cran/ ginger ale concoction, very enjoyable. The room is large, bright and loud. Generally displeasing to myself. To contrast the standard crappy open main room is a lovely large patio replete with fireplace and its own bar. Absolutely my favorite place to eat in the place and on a hot day makes it a destination spot.

Chow tends to be somewhat overpriced, and the main room wants for comfort. They have a nice happy hour that lasts til 8. Large parties are easily accommodated. In the end, if you are seeking high quality comfort food, a fantastic patio in a very central location, then I can readily recommend Chow.

I'd been to Home with large groups several times over the years, but Saturday before last felt like the first time because it was just my kid and me so we were able to have a more personal experience.

Chris was our server, and he made us feel welcome right away. I never had to wave him (or anyone) over for anything...everything was timed just so.

We shared a Caesar salad and the steak frites. It was a simple, down-to-earth, satisfying meal washed down with strong, tasty cocktails (root beer for my second-grader!).

During the ensuing week, I found myself yearning to go back. In particular, I couldn't stop thinking about the super-fresh and perfectly-dressed Caesar salad.

So, this past Saturday, we returned. We coincidentally ended up in Chris's section again; he surprised me by not only remembering us, but by remembering what we had ordered a full week prior.

There was one minor glitch during our meal but I didn't bother mentioning it; however, Chris noticed on his own even in the hustle and bustle of busy Saturday evening service and comped our dessert of banana bread pudding.

Home and Chris now have our loyalty...we can't wait to return!

*insert corny restaurant name pun here*

Came here for brunch today with a bunch of friends. Had reservation so no wait :) I ordered Biscuits & Gravy and Eggs Benedict Florentine.  Eggs Benedict was okay, I mean its just like any other place that serves benedicts. However, me and my bf both agree we would come back for just the Biscuits & Gravy. That was the only thing that I liked and had great flavor and a kick from the chorizo.
I asked for my Hollandaise on the side and that never came and my bf was the last to get his food, we had to ask the waiter about what was taking so long when everyone else got theirs :\ Service is okay.
Prices are a little high, but oh well. We had a party of six so they charged us 20% grat.

First off, I've never had the entrees, because I hear they're not as good as the appetizers. But let me just say that I've managed to make a full meal out of appetizers every time I've gone-- and I'm not one of those "I'll just have a salad" kind of girls.

Things to get: Mac-N-Cheese, Sweet Potato Tots, and Fried Green Beans. Also, make sure you go for happy hour to take advantage of the $4.00 Homeboy* cocktails, which are an awesome combo of gin, O.J., ginger ale, and lime juice.

*Everytime I order a Homeboy cocktail, I get the "hide yo kids, hide yo wife" song stuck in my head.

Aw Home. How come I've never reviewed you? Oh yes. Because you're amazing. Yes you have over 1,000 reviews. You're not a secret hole in the wall. But you serve up some amazing comfort food. And every time I have come here I have not been disappointed.

My first date with my then boyfriend was here. I had never really been to the Castro and have heard good things about this place. Check and check!

For starters I LOVE the sloppy joe dip with chips. Sounds kinda stoner-y food. But let me assure you it is heaven. I feel guilty after eating it. So its obviously yummy. Their chicken and mashed potatoes is good. Nothing ground breaking or amazing but it is good. And a huge portion for what you pay for. Their butternut squash is to die for. I was afraid it would taste too .. pumpkin/squashy? If thats a word. But it wasn't! It was seasoned beautifully and I was super full. I've also had the Roasted Cod.. and let me tell you. I'm not a fish person...but Home has turned me into one!

They have a great happy hour. From 4-7 everyday you get $4 well drinks including some specialty mixed drinks, $4 reds and whites and $4 stella. Hellllooo.

I would love to have breakfast/brunch here. I'll will update when I do!

Though I hadn't had brunch here in a couple years, I want to spell it out for you--it's fantastic.

Among the many other specialties that makes Home unique is the Bloody Mary bar. You choose a vodka, then head to the outside little patio and create your very own ideal Mary. Since I'm not great at mixing drinks, I always let a friend do it for me, and it's always good.

Yesterday, I chose the Bourbon Spiked Brioche French Toast to eat. It came with a large ball of tasty walnut butter and maple syrup--a simple, but very decadent choice. I highly recommend it.

Service is always warm and comes with a smile.

So I wanted something WARM and cozy for dinner. Ya know, somewhere that's smart enough to know it's cold outside and leaving the door open makes me order less drinks, causes my food to get cold, and leaves me slightly grumpy.

Home was recommended by a friend with high regards so, my boyfriend and I went.  From the moment we walked in the door we were greeted with smiles and gratitude for coming. The space was slightly dim with a upscale cafe meets hotel restaurant with a more than homey ambiance.

The full bar was dimly lit but light enough that as I walked to the table light reflected off each bottle. Which meant two things to me, 1. Yay! Full Bar and 2. Damn those bottles are clean. The bartender stood behind his post drying glasses. I felt like I was in a movie.

Unfortunately, I cannot remember our servers name. He was delightful and very attentive. We ordered our drinks, Old Fashion for the boy, and I ordered the Hugo's Besitos, both drinks were very tasty and well blended with no one ingredient over powering the other. EXCEPT... the Old Fashion had too much pulp from the fresh fruit, for our liking. Overall, we were pleased.

My guy ordered the Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf  Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Brown Sugar Glazed Baby Carrots - 15. DELICIOUS! Everything was fantastic. He says it was the best meatloaf he ever ate. I have to agree.

I went for something I would never order from a non Italian joint, Ratatouille Lasagna Eggplant and Zucchini, Roasted Peppers, Fresh Pasta, Bellwether Farms Ricotta - 14, and was very pleased with it. I did tire of the same flavor bite after bite, so maybe I should have had a salad with it. Regardless, it was still very good.

For dessert, yes, we stuffed it in,  the Banana Bread Pudding
Bourbon Caramel Sauce. I could have skipped the meal had two rounds of drinks and this dessert and been happier than a 2 year old with it's first lollipop. Never mind what my blood sugar might have done. I'm a grownup I can have dessert for dinner if I choose.

    Next time!

I give Home 5 stars for Over all cleanliness, the setting was more than comfortable and inviting, the staff was superb and the food was very very tasty.

    I will return!

It's like your every other breakfast joint with a homey feel in the back because of the fireplace.  But that's the extent of it.  Found nothiing special on the menu.

Eggs benedict came with homefries. Homefries were cooked perfectly and seasoned just right.  Benedict - eggs were poached for too long and the yolk was pretty much near hard.  I like it a bit on the runnier side.  Not enough hollondaise sauce on top also

Make your own bloody mary for $6.  Mine came out too spicy...added a heaping dollop of horse radish and tons of tabasco sauce.  It was alright.  I'm no bartendress, I'd prefer if this was made for me.  But if you know how to make a mean bloody mary, this is a cool place to go.

    Service - good.  No complaints.

Home Restaurant, you're growing on me!

I've been to this restaurant twice in the past month, and had a good culinary experience on both occasions!  I noticed that the menu had really changed from the last time I'd been to Home, and for the better!

    Some highlights:

    -  The Sweet Potato Tater Tots with spicy dipping sauce are DELICIOUS and ADDICTIVE!!!!

    -  Mac'n'Cheese with salty rye bread crumbs is the perfect light-yet-comfort-foodie dinner or late-night snack!

    -  Truffled Kennebec Potato Chips with Caramelized Onion Dip is soooo good!!!  The chips by themselves are just really good potato chips, but once dipped in the dip, they are elevated to something profound!!!  This is not the from-a-packet onion dip you get at your college buddy's annual Superbowl party!!!

    -  Home Burger - I got mine medium rare with tomato and bleu cheese only...it was served on a brioche-type bun and was soooo juicy and flavorful, it was hard for me to share with my friend, even though I'd already promised him!!!  The fries that came with it were those crispy, skinnier ones that had good flavor and didn't get soggy as they cooled...DELISH!!

    -  Lemon Drop - I'm a lemon drop kind of girl, and have made it practically a hobby to taste-test as many of them as possible over the past year!  Some places are better than others, some are downright awful, and everybody probably has a different opinion as to what makes a good one.  So, let me state up-front what I consider a delicious Lemon Drop:  Sweet, lemony, smooth-not-harsh, flavorful and bright, well-sugared rim (not skimpy on the sugar, y'all!!).  Lemon on the rim, not a lemon twist in the actual drink.  Home's Lemon Drop is definitely up to snuff, although inconsistent, sometimes sweeter than others...I assume this might differ from bartender to bartender?  But generally delicious and generous in size, and a nice companion to the richer food served here.

Why no 5th star, since I seem to be having a love affair with their food right now?  Well, to be honest, it's the service.  Both times I've been in the past month, I've had grumpy, unfriendly male servers, neither one of which said "please" or "thank you".  I'm aware that I'm old-fashioned, but good manners and a smile are a big part of good service to me.  And when I went with 6 friends a few weeks ago, they automatically added 20% gratuity to our check.  Um.  That was not service that deserved 20% gratuity.  Our party was not difficult to wait on, so the size of our party shouldn't have been an extra strain on the restaurant, especially since it was later in the evening and the restaurant wasn't very full.  Oh, well, this won't keep me away from going to Home, but it will keep me from giving it a 5th star for the time being.  Who knows?!  Maybe they'll hire someone friendlier soon?!

Home is one of my all time favorite restaurants in San Fran.  Great atmosphere, AMAZING appetizers and mac n' cheese, and pretty good entrees.

The service is great except for the fact that sometimes it's slow (usually because the place is packed!)

You must try it at least once!

I pass Home every day on the J Train and have always wanted to try it. I finally had the chance when a good friend had a birthday dinner there this weekend!

I do think it was a good choice for a birthday dinner, simply because there is a lot of space for large groups, and easy to find! (the signs are huge) but I was less than impressed with the food.

In general, it was good, but not extraordinary. Myself and two friends ordered the following and got WAAAAY too much food, I think we would have been fine with 1 less main.

    Appetizers:
Thai Chicken Wings - good, has a kick to them
Mini Corn Dogs - cute and yummy!

    Mains:
Chicken Pot Pie - GIGANTIC, this is really really filling
Fried Chicken - This was probably the best thing we ordered. It was honey drizzled and yum!
Bacon Wrapped Meat Loaf - I thought this was ok. but it's hard to go wrong with bacon.

All in all, this place was average. Food was decent, but not too expensive and gigantic portions. I didn't have any drinks, but I hear the cocktails were bleh.

    Came for: group weeknight din
Will come back for: maybe for some "home" comfort food

Big space, reasonably-priced good/a-ok comfort-style food (depending on the dish), generous portions, but lacking service though (literally, as only one person was staffed on our entire area).

I had the ChickPea Burger - curiosity reigned over my palate - and think I got one of the better dishes.  Liked the mildly flavor and hearty consistency of the chickpea better than some other veggie burgers I've had before.

Although I didn't taste, the group noshed on the mac-n-cheese (seemed a bit watery), chicken pot pie (could use more filling), special of the night beet salad (the sweet raspberry dressing made it an odd combo), buttermilk fried chicken (good, but not out-of-this world), and lasagna (good).  We appreciated the complementary corn bread!

Take-Away: A good diner/home-y (pun intended) option if that's what you're looking for.  Good for groups.

I asked my friend for an American (New) restaurant, which is this nebulous type of place, and he suggested Home.  He did good.

The inside of Home fits the name.  It feels cozy, but elegant.  I felt like I was at a small table at a very big dinner party.  The menu was full of rocking choices.  I opted first for the sweet potato tots.  I have a thing for sweet potato and for tots.  The combination was perfect and the spicy ranch on the side for dipping was great (though I wouldn't have minded it being a tad spicier).  For drinks, I had the Homegirl.  It was tasty, but I wanted a bit more of that Vodka kick.  For dinner for I had a burger topped with avocado and garlic aioli and pepperjack cheese.  Great stuff.  There was so much avocado that I almost thought there was too much.  Almost :)

The service was decent, but what I dug the most was the ambiance, the stellar food, and a menu that left me wanting to come back and try more.

I have heard they have a sick brunch with a build your own Bloody Mary bar.  Just saying...

This place serves good food, albeit a little on the pricey side. The reason why I'm giving this place three stars is because I didn't like the ambiance. I just felt like it was a little disconnected - was it supposed to be homey and intimate, or swank and urban, or maybe even an updated old-time diner? I don't know... maybe I'm being a little too picky. The bad service I received is partly to blame - the hostess totally blew me off even though I just asked if I needed a key for the bathroom.

Another thing - I didn't find the mac n' cheese all that special. It's good, but I definitely expected it to be better than just good after all the things I've been heard about it.

It's been quite some time since I've last been to Home and honestly, I never thought I'd be back. My first experience was unremarkable but since it was my boyfriend's mom's birthday, I really had no choice!

I have to say, this time around, the food was better but I still can't imagine myself craving to come back. I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf and my boyfriend had the pot roast. The pot roast was a little chewy for my taste and the meatloaf was ok. I give an honorable mention to their mashed potatoes tho! It was very light and fluffy.. makes me almost want to put my face in it!

Went to Sunday brunch and had the corned beef hash.  It was deeeelish!!!!
1/4" cubes of beef (75% lean chunks, 25% had a small bit of "love").  1/4" potato cubes.  2 poached eggs with hollandaise topper.  Hollandaise is not poured on but rather strategically placed on the eggs alone.

Portion is hearty.  I wish I would have shared with someone, especially because they gave you a plate of moist banana and lemon bread when you arrive.

Location is on market, center of castro.  Its a corner spot so you see the hustle and bustle.  The venue is spacious so I recommend it for family/kids (and wheelchairs) which is sometimes hard to find in SF because homey breakfast spots always seem to be tightly packed with rickety wood furniture and benches.

I hadn't been to Home in about a year and a half, but I took my father and mother here a few days ago because my dad is big on the comfort food.  I love Home's meat loaf and pot roast and my husband and I really talked up how awesome the food is.

My dad and I both ordered the meat loaf and my husband ordered the pot roast.  But when our meal came out, we were absolutely astonished at the portion sizes!  What happened to Home?  (Before you accuse me of being a fat, binge-eating American, let me just say that I'm 5 feet 5 and weigh 120lbs, so I'm hardly looking for a feeding trough.)

I don't know if the recession has hit Home hard, but meat loaf should be a loaf, not medallions!  And pot roast should be substantial!  For the price I paid at Home, I expected to leave feeling full.  Instead, I went home and ate a bowl of cereal.

Great food, but don't come hungry.

When going around attempting to find raffle prizes last minute for our beer bust to support the 2011 AIDS walk,  Home came through in a big way.  They gave us a $50 gift certificate to help.  Their generosity will definitely guarantee my return for what I expect to be a great meal.

Without even knowing, he picked the perfect place. I really like that. I've always wanted to try Home, I ride by here almost everyday and love comfort foods. It seemed like the perfect place to meet up for dinner and drinks.

I had the Homegirl cocktail, it was hawt and just my type, vodka based. We ordered the appetizers, my selection? The mini corn dogs. Delicious. Next time, maybe pair those with the sweet potato tots. All those tempting comfort foods teasing me....

For my main course I went with the Kobe Beef Burger with Bacon and Pepper Jack. They must have switched my order at first because I ended up with a Well Done Burger. The Waitress was very nice and understood and switched it out to a Medium Rare. When ordering fine meat hamburgers, i always like it a little pinker and juicier. Why waste Kobe by going well done?

I also had some of the Steak Frites, the steak was very juicy and flavorful. If I didn't go with the burger, I would have been all over that steak. I took home half my burger and ate it the next day. It was still so good and I didn't even mind sitting at my desk on a Friday afternoon.

This was a great place for dinner. It was perfect place to enjoy a meal in good company without it being too loud, crowded and fancy for a weeknight. I loved my meal and would gladly come back again.

I have tried really hard to like Home since it is close to areas I frequent. But, they are pricey for food that is normal. The service is ok. It is really, really loud. There is nothing to scream about at this place.

But, the last straw was we brought a cake for my friend's birthday and asked if they could bring it out later (since it was ice cream). They agreed and brought it out when we asked and brought us extra plates and forks. That was it. I wasn't expecting anymore but they didn't light any candles or even cut it. Then they tried to charge us $30 for that service!!! ($3.50 a person). They didn't warn us about that when we first gave them the cake. Kind of ridiculous. I could see a small fee, like $5, but $3.50 a person is crazy. It is not a 5 star restaurant...
