A couple of years ago we staged our wedding rehearsal dinner in the back room and at the time Michael was the manager, maybe he still is as we have moved out of the neighborhood.
Anyway, Michael and his staff made it a night to remember for all our guests. The service was spot on, the food was excellent and the bartenders made sure everyone was happy. This all took place on a Friday, usually a busy time for them, and never once did we feel rushed or pushed to leave.
My dad dropped nearly 5K on the dinner for 60+folks,which included drinks, so yes it was worth it.
Lost one star due to the lack of parking and the tiny washrooms.
Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

"Why the hell does everyone rave about the macaroni and cheese at Home, it's really not that good. I had to dose it with salt...even more than I usually do."
"Dude, I don't get it either, don't they realize it's just an upscale Bob Evans?"
Bland fanciful food at high prices when Chow is just across the street? Hah, won't see me there.
I couldn't really figure out why this place only had 3.5 stars. Not that that is bad by any means, but every time I've walked by, the place has been packy packed and really looked like it was jumpin.
Well, today I came here for Brunch and I now know why the rating isn't as high as one would hope. The food, well, it's not so great. I ordered my standard Eggs Benedict dish (usually a safe bet) and when it was plopped down in front of me, I was instantly bummed. For starters the English muffin was still kinda on the raw side. It should be toasted so it pairs with the soft runny egg and you can scoop up the liquid love with it.
Then there was the Canadian bacon. It looked as though it really did make the trek down from Canada and was now tired and winded and on the dehydrated side (think Forrest Gump after months of running across the country). And the sauce, totally unmemorable and not satly enough. The potatoes that came with it were good, although a bit over-seasoned in comparison.
My friend ordered the mushroom egg dish and it looked okay, but none of our meals really jumped off the plate in edible glee. It's a real bummer, because this place is so close to my house and on a hungover morning, is there anything better than rolling out of bed, throwing on a hoodie and drinking bloodys with some good grub?
I guess the search is still on for that complete package. The only saving grace for this place was our very nice server. He was cool, friendly and agreed that everything is better with bacon, so he gets the extra star.

Maybe it isn't like "home" where you can cam the bacon or steal some chocolate before breakfast, but Home is a nice spot to relax, especially when one is eating with their Mom.
After the Yelp Elite Event at Orson, my mother and I both decided we needed a substantial lunch. I heard good things about Home, so we plopped our butts (TM Jennie L.) down and settled in. I chose the brisket hash and my mom, the crab omelette.
I was very satisfied with the brisket, which sometimes can be overcooked, but it was very tender and the accompanying potatoes were crisp. Flavored with diced onions and red bell peppers, the dish was a sure hit. My mother's crab omelette was stellar, packed full of fresh crab; the eggy and fluffy eggs were delicious as well. What made the meal was actually the bread plate that came at the beginning...chocolate banana, zucchini, and raspberry! Oh yum!
However, come change time, the waitress should have been wearing a dunce cap. Total of the bill was $25.32 (extra 90 cents for the healthcare tax), and we gave her $30 in cash. We should have gotten back $4.68, but instead given $4.50. Why? "Because I don't have change." I was stumped. Something so easy. Then the waitress handed me back $5 and said "We either round down or round up." I was absolutely mortified about how this waitress dealt not only with her money, but the patron's dollars as well. No wonder she had no change on her...at this rate, she's either making money (which I highly think is feasible because no one else has caught her) or losing money.
Either way, with that last fiasco, -2 stars.

Great mac and cheese. Delicious cocktails. And *sloppy joe dip*? Are you kidding? Awesome!
Home put together a fantastic birthday celebration for my fiance, going so far as to get their pastry chef to bake a special cake for her. It was the best birthday she's ever had, eating delicious food, sharing fresh chocolate/raspberry cake, on the coolest patio in the City.
Home kicks ass.
The food is seriously uneventful. Service is ok. The BEST part of this place are the bartenders, they're always cool! Chris is AWESOME, he'll pour you a mean whatever you want!!!!
By the time Sunday brunch rolled around, my cold had reached new heights. Tylenol was losing it's effectiveness and a big box of Kleenex was my only savior. Normally, I would not go out of the house like that, but since I was on vacation, I figured I should enjoy myself as much as possible. Plus, the fresh air really helped.
Unfortunately, I was really in no mood to deal with large crowds or rowdy diners. I'm sure everyone was just having a good time, but it was VERY loud in this place. I was seated at the bar with my friend, since it was so busy and I was in no condition to wait for a table. The bartender was super nice and brought us OJ and water pronto. He was also very attentive throughout the entire meal.
The menu was a little disappointing. It was very limited and really didn't cater to a selective eater such as myself. Although I am picky, I don't typically have so much trouble finding something to eat on a menu. I may have to ask for a couple of ingredients to be left out, or a substitution, but there just wasn't much to work with here. Red meat is inescapable, as there weren't any turkey or chicken options. =(
I wanted a semi-healthy breakfast, but ended up ordering the Crunchy Cornflake French Toast. The crunchy part was no joke! It was just too much. I had to eat around the crust after a few bites. It was also VERY sweet with the dried apricot compote. It was really good, but just too sweet to take more than a few bites of. (FYI: I have a major sweet tooth, so it was really extreme). Once I got past the extra crispy/hard crust and the super sweet topping, the french toast was actually good. I also ordered an egg on the side, which was okay, but leaning toward the undercooked side for my taste.
Despite my lackluster brunch, I would probably go back...for lunch or dinner instead though. The brunch menu just isn't for me, but the restaurant itself was nice and the atmosphere was certainly lively, so I'd be willing to give it another shot.
p.s., if you order the Croissant sandwich, make sure you get plenty of napkins to go with it--it's very flaky and messy.

I accidentally ended up here when looking for another restaurant. The place was so packed that we had to wait for 15 min at 10pm (given it was a friday night). Home is definitely serving up some amazing comfort food. I'm normally not a huge fan of pork but I went out on a limb and had the pork chop with cheese grits and rutebega (didn't know what this was before the meal, love it now). The pork was perfectly seasoned and cooked so that it was still juicy and tender. The cheese grits were amazing and packed a lot of cheesy flavor and the rutebega was surprisingly delicious. The meal was very satisfying and not as heavy as I thought it would be. The cocktails were also very delicious and the blueberry cobbler was orgasmic.
Home is okay. Nothing to rave about. Although they have a great bloody mary bar, they need to learn how to clean it up..by the time we got there, there was not enough celery, the ingredients needed to be refilled, and it was just messy.
The food was okay. I had the croissant sandwich and it was so greasy. I could feel the grease glistening on my face. Okay, sorry, that was a litlte gross.
The service is good, but overall? Nothing to rave about.
Home. Not my home, maybe your home? Home.
A fancier Mel's... with waiters who are too impatient and just want to shoo you out of the restaurant. We didn't know which eye to look him in... he was looking in one too many directions. Food did not disappoint. Fries just right to the crispy factor. Steak - juicy and tender. Salad - perfect amount of dressing. Molten chocolate cake - decadent.
One downer - THE FOOD CAME WAY TOO DAMN FAST.
I enjoyed it. $3 well drinks : ) who can beat that?
Great place to come on a sunday morning. They have a great brunch and a really cool bloody mary bar where you can assemble your own drink.
Food is like good old home cooking. I LOVE the croissant sandwich (scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese...side of potatoes) and they make a really great hamburger. Buttermilk pancakes were great too. And I will say they have very generous portions.....oh yes.
This place is busy and they tend to pay more attention to their regulars but once you get in it's great.

I went to Home last night to pick up an order we called in. We ordered the Flat iron Steak, the Roasted Chicken and their Brussel Sprout appetizer. I had a $50 gift certificate that had been giving to us by a friend. The total was $48 and change. I presented them with the gift certificate and was immediately met with attitude. While waiting for them to give me change back, as I assumed there would be since we had used the majority of the certificate I was presented with a ripped piece of paper with the remaining balance of the certificate of a $1.62 initialed by who I can only assume was the acting manager. I was dumbfounded. Seriously, what can I possible use a $1.62 gift certificate for at their establishment? It was an insult.
When we finally opened the bag to get our food everything was individually boxed up, this was not so bad until we opened the box with the steak in it. The steak was maybe 3 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches - it was the smallest Flat Iron Steak we had ever seen, I have seen gristle larger than this steak. The food was mediocre at best. The Brussel Sprouts weren't cooked completely nor were the potatoes. It was a very sorry excuse for Home Cooking and what they changed for it was a slap in the face. To say the least I will not be returning to their establishment.

Good food, good service, lack of a selection for food. The menu reminded me of the In & Out menu as you don't have much to choose from. The food is quite tasty, but beyond that, I wouldn't drive from the Sunset to the Castro just to eat there. Oh yes, get ready for a long wait.

I have a soft spot for Home. It's not too casual, not too fancy either. The main room can be noisy during peak hours but the delicious entres are worth it! The Thursday plate special is amazing: Corn flake fried chicken, potato puree, coleslaw & gravy. I'm not usually a fried chicken kind of girl but tit is GOOD. They have good drinks too.
Their brunch is nice also. I took my Mom for a Girl's Day. We loved sitting on the porch, they have a Bloody Mary bar with anything and everything to make your own drink.
Extra points for the recently extended hours, we need more late-night options in SF!
don't tell me 35-40 minutes when you're not going to seat me for well over an hour. If that was your intention in the beginning, you should say so.
Our table is ready in 5 minutes? yeah, she said that 20 minutes ago.
eff that.
Home, 1 star until a later date. Will make reservations and show up SUPER early to make sure nothing is screwed up

Home always has such great food! Been here a few times, especially for brunch and I just love the atmosphere. Good place to go if you're from out of town.
I've been to an AIDS fundraiser with Home as one of the caterers. Very friendly staff and good food. I came here with 5 other girls during comedy night and sat on their covered patio with blazing hot heat lamps above. The first comedian was horrible, the 2nd guy was gay and hilarious... kept calling our table of 6 "The Lesbian Table". Hilarious. The last one we stayed for Allie Wong was hilarious.
I ordered the Hugo's Besitos. Pretty good, served in a skinny high ball glass and a lemon twist. I ordered the Caesar Salad for $9 and my friend shared her skirt steak with me that came with French fries. Very good. We used the French fries to soak up the remaining sauce. It was delicious.
Tina, our server was awesome. We didn't have reservations but she was accommodating and friendly. She got pulled up on stage by a comedian and said she looked like Lisa Lisa (& Cult Jam)'s daughter. Funny shit.
Two bathrooms available with a unique looking sink.. thought that was cool. I'd go back.
umm.... hey guys? they have a brunchtime bloody mary bar, like a salad bar but with different kinds of tomato juice mix and a plethora of spicy sauces and garnishes... yeah. need i even say anything else?
(note- you don't get to add your own vodka- they do that part for you, lush.)
Pricey for what it is, but the food is pretty good. The mini corn dogs are pretty disappointing though. I went there for brunch a couple weekends ago and it was the loudest dining experience of my life.
I'll probably get dragged there again sometime soon but I would never suggest it.
I came here the day after my 25th, it was fun. Some of the people with me had a good time at the make your own bloody mary bar. In my case I was just trying to sober up :)
They have a great back area (where the bloody mary bar is) - I say its great because it feels like sitting out in a patio.
Why rated low? Well... its just generic. There is nothing special about this place - it is open late. So 3 stars for that.
3 words.
Bloody. Mary. Bar.
And when I'm feeling particularly wreckless, the bacon & egg croissant.
Brunch-hour is pretty much the only time I've spent here, and for that, it's a darn good spot. I recommend reservations to avoid that waiting thing.
Let me be #548 to tell you about this place! Necessary, perhaps not.
But I'd like to share that the sink in one of their bathrooms has a gradual inclined trough to the drain, approximately 5 feet long, which I would like to lie in and become covered in their famed mac and cheese. That would be awesome.
Now go argue about if I should have said lie or lay.
Then say you can't hear me because it is so friggin loud in here.
Then steal half my breakfast because it's so flippin tasty mmm bacon mmmm croissant mmm cappuccino.

35-40 minute wait turned into over an hour for 3 people.
2nd in line until we get seated turned into 5 minutes...
5 minutes turned into another 20 minutes..
How come we haven't been seated yet? Turned into, "Oh we need to accommodate groups who had reservations first." But I yet, I clearly remember the hostess seating a group of 8+ who had reservations at 830...yet they came in around 9...WTF?!
WE NEVER GOT SEATED. What an EPIC FAIL.
So we went across the street to Chow's. http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I will probably NOT come back here unless someone drags me back.
Home could be hit or miss sometimes. I prefer having dinner here than brunch. I don't know about you but I am not warm to the idea of building my own bloody mary because I don't know that the heck I'm doing. Anyway, this last time I was there with by bf & friends visiting from LA I had the mini corn dogs, which were surprisingly good. The mac & cheese is ok but a much better version can be found at Blue. All in all, Home is at a convenient location and it's fun to bring a big group.

Come for the "make your own bloody mary" on Sundays, don't stay for the entrees.
The drinks are amazing, the wait staff is super, the apps are nice, but the entrees leave more to the imagination. Everyone I've ever spoken to has told me to try the mac and cheese. Hmm, not my style. I could make a better mac and cheese from the blue box. Home is quite inconsistent when it comes to this dish. It either has not enough salt or too much. I've never ordered it myself, I just usually pick at my friends. The mash potatoes are typically hearty and fluffy while the meatloaf and gravy lack substance.
Overall, a great place for drinking it up with your gaggle of gay gooses but nothing more than that.

I ate brunch here yesterday with a good college classmate. I was really surprised how tasty my food was. I had gotten the crab omelette and home fries that resembled Lay's Mesquite BBQ chips. Nice! It's a little pricey but most brunch places come with a tag it seems. The staff seem really nice and attentive. Pretty nice atmosphere but really noisy! I couldn't hear a lot what my friend was saying. I know I have bad hearing but hearing that much noise almost made me give up talking to her.

Over-rated. Over-priced. Under-cooked rice. Good idea. Poor execution. May give it a second shot....not sure how likely though, you can get same food for lower prices. Friendly service. If friends bring me here again, I will give it a fair trial, but it's not my preference.

5 stars for a great brunch menu on Sundays, plus mix your own bloodies for four bucks!
5 stars for happy hour, and really late hours - when most of the other places that are open are crap.
4 stars the rest of the time, still I'm rounding up.
Good food at value prices, just by trimming the portions on John Frank-quality food, with the same great interior (windows, mirrors, flowers & decorator-loos) and location.
Seriously 5 stars as brunch joint, especially out on the patio. It's where I taught the gf how to appreciate the bloodies. Especially celery salt, "muy importante!" The croissant bacon & egg sandwich is to die for and they can take omelets to the next level...good coffee and great service too.

I changed my mind about Home. I'd only been there once before and I wasn't that impressed. However, I got a burger the other day and it was freakin' awesome. Perfectly cooked and I mean *perfectly* cooked burger with Niman Ranch beef and delicious, crispy fries. One of the best burgers I've had in SF. Sure, a lot of it probably had to do with the specific guy that cooked it for me but Home still deserves some credit.
The service was good too and I didn't even have to wait for a table on a busy Friday night. Home served me a great meal and I'll definitely be back for more.

OMG. everyone knows this is my favorite restaurant. i went there four times last week and my roommate just gave me a gift certificate.
WHY is it my favorite? theyre open til midnight EVERY NIGHT, the food is always delicious (they make brussel sprouts taste like candy!), and they have the BEST BEST BEST booze drinks...the homegirl is my personal fave.
it would be good for a casual date or when you have company in town.

Love the food. The early bird special is a real bargain. For less than $15 dollars, it includes glass of wine, salad or soup, entree and dessert. The flank steak is sooo tender, burgers are really good, banana bread pudding is the best.
Parking can be difficult.
I like HOME alot. Today I deviated from my usual breakfast of eggs benedict and had Steak and Eggs instead. A concept i was always scared shitless of, but with a flatiron steak cooked medium rare(perfection) and eggs with potatoes my mouth was in orgasmical states of bliss.
then there is the weekend bloody mary building bar-FUN. they have a really good cobb salad as well(an adverb staple ...its like the equiv of some dudes and their go to porn ,ALWAYS WORKS).
The staff is super friendly to me always even when its busy as heckadoodledoo. I like this place alot, go eat there and look at hot gay boys

Mediocre. Nothing especially bad to say about it, other than the food choices was unexciting and nothing really jumped off the menu at me. Service was good. Food was not bad, but not something I'd go back for (I had the Pot Roast, it was fine, nothing to write home about).
The sloppy joe dip appetizer tasted like any chili I could make at home for a few bucks.
Unless you're in the area and want American only food, I'd give it a pass.
Went for the first time. Decor was simple. Staff was freindly but not overly so. We had the 7 layer dip which was ok a bit spicy for my taste but the tortlilla chips where really good. I had the meatload which was good but a bit mushy for me and a large portion. The glazzed carrots and mash potatos were delish. One frend had the steak and garlic fries I like his. They cooked the steak a good medium. The other freind had a pork chop and cheess Grits my fav of the night (from the south) and rubaga (sp) The best part was the dessert we got three of them and when u do that there is a special price break 3 for 15 and is cheaper than ordering them seperately. We had the three milk cake. molton choc cake. and banna bread pudding. it was a little pricey but the desert was well worth it. They have speical each night of the week. i would go back for sure.
Huge Miss-
I used to enjoy the experience of early bird specials and cocktails with friends. BUT, I'm so over this place now. The last experience really took the cake.
We came here for brunch. The menu offerings were interesting a bit on the pricey side, but whatever it's brunch so I sometimes splurge on $15 breakfasts. We ate, nothing really stood out, service was either lacking or overly intrusive, then the bill comes.
Brunch for 2 plus a bloody mary= $38. PLUS THEY CHARGED US $1.60 for the stupid SF HEALTHCARE on top of it all. I am so fed up with getting charged for this. Restaurants don't tell you in their list of disclaimers at the bottom of the menus they just tack it on and expect you to pay. WTF- I didn't vote for this and I'm over it and will not patronize places that can't just adjust their prices to incorporate this into the cost of doing business.
Besides, how is mandating private employers to pay health insurance even legal? Shouldn't voters mandate improvements on things we supposedly have control of like public roads, public transportation, and public services first?
Has anyone not eaten here? I met with a few friends here in the back patio area. We had mojitos and sandwiches for a snack/dinner. Service was above average, the place was pretty packed which lent to a festive atmosphere.

Love this place. Great food, fabulous cocktails, and friendly service. I've been here with large groups, small groups, by myself, and with family from out of town with young kids in tow. This place has never disappointed me. I've really glad I live close by!
I've been to Home on a few occasions and I've ordered a variety of items from the menu. I feel like it tries to be upscale comfort food without really getting there. The quality of the items is decent...it's not bad, but the amount you pay for it doesn't quite make sense. I've had a chicken dish, meatloaf dish and a burger and they were fine, but nothing amazing. I just fee like it's "Denny's" but twice as expensive. The staff is fairly friendly and attentive and the drinks are over-priced. Home's decor is unimpressive: very simple and standard, which actually reflects the food. The location is great since it's right on Market Street/Church in the Castro.
Home is the kind of restaurant you go to with a group of rowdy friends when you've already been drinking and there's really no need to pay attention to the food.
Just bullet points:
-Brunch on Sunday
-Were told there was 5 minute wait
-Forgot about us in the computerized queue, had to remind hostess after 15 minutes
-Sound in the dining area was deafening
-Waited 10 minutes to see waitress to order
-Waited 10 minutes for drinks
-Never got 'breakfast breads' included in our meal, got up to ask server after 15 minutes of waiting, only to be told that they were all out, not given an alternative like fruit or something
-Waited another eternity to get our food
-Order was wrong
-Ate: good croissant sandwich (how could that ever be bad, really) and a bland hamburger
-Left a 10% tip (I feel a little guilty, I shouldn't, should I?)
Oh, Home. Next time I'll stay at mine.
