Neighborhood: Chula VistaThe ultimate "big box" store for the hardware-minded. This one is local to me, and happens to be on my way home from just about everywhere. I like to go there when I need stuff, and sometimes, even when I don't need anything at all except a visit to inspire my imagination. Seriously, what kind of man can walk past rows and rows of power tools and not grunt like Tim the Tool Man Taylor?
Usually, I don't have much success in finding someone to help me when I need it. But this time, I had no less than 3 different employees who were passing by ask if I needed help. Quite a nice experience!
Oh, and if you ever need batteries, THIS is the place to go. You can get a huge mega-pack for a fraction of what they cost just about anywhere else.
-----UPDATE BELOW-----
I've decided to update this review because of an absolutely amazing interaction I had this morning at this store. I was there to buy a particular item, and when they didn't have any on the shelves, I snagged a guy in an orange apron. He was obviously on his way to help another employee with something, but he said that can wait and helped me instead.
After getting the stock number for the item, he went over to the customer service desk, looked up my item, and got on the phone with the nearest other Home Depot for the area, in Eastlake (Near Otay Ranch Town Center). He even grabbed 2 phones and called 2 different service numbers in the same store, to see which one would be picked up first!
He went through a couple layers of employees, and eventually got to a manager there, and asked them if they had it in stock. He said that the online inventory system showed that it was there, but that he wanted the Eastlake store to visually verify that it was indeed there before sending the customer (me) over to get it.
Now here's where it gets amazing. He told the manager at the other store that since this was a redirect from this store because they were out of stock, to give me a 50% off on it! I was flabbergasted. I was stunned. I couldn't believe it. This kind of thing is entirely unheard-of in this day and age!
He got my name, and passed it along to the guy at the other store, hung up, and let me know what I needed to do to go and get it. I thanked him profusely, and he smiled, shrugged it off, and said, "It's my job." His name was Blaise, and he's one of the managers there. This guy understands service. He gets it. If someone is looking to hand out awards, rewards, or bonuses, Blaise deserves to be one of the top candidates.
Wow.

I come here too much. There are too many new faces and it's beginning to remind me of wal-mart with the constant stream of changing employees.
Nice cool nursery, plenty of paint, a lack of any thing above 12 gauge sheet metal, but everything a homeowner needs to do projects and repairs around the house.
