CAKE HEAVEN!!!!!! I recently started making cakes as a side business... i'm not talking you're mom's yellow cake... I'm talking fondant covered hand painted and sculpted works of art (yes I am very proud can you tell?) anyways this place has been a godsend.

Greil is freaking amazing! I never go in there expecting to be out quickly and damit I'm fine with that because if she's willing to take 30  minutes to talk to the frazzled soccer mom stuck making cupcakes for her 10 year olds bake sale I know she'll be happy talking to me for just as long about the finer points of crumb coating a cake.

She'll never ever EVER let you leave buying something you don't need. If you tell her what you're doing she'll look at your basket and say "You really don't need this, a toothpick works just as well" and TRUST THIS WOMAN! i don't know how she is so amazingly knowledgeable but she is.

Her products she has are (other than hard to find in that mess unless your there twice a month like me) of the highest quality. Her cake boards are super durable, she has sugar molds in tons of shapes, big daddio's bake ware which is the best, and fondant... oh my god her fondant is spectacular! It's so easy to use and she sells it in convenient 1 and 2 pound units in white, ivory, black, and tons of other colors in between.

I'll be honest, I just started making cakes a few months ago and everytime I've had a question she has given me a logical easy to understand answer... and the first cake that turned out slightly disasterous she told me exactly what I did wrong and gave me tips for the future. Seriously... this store is awesome.... I know she'll never read these reviews cause she likes to keep her biz super low tech but THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

This holiday season I decided that I would try making high-quality boutique-style chocolates (see photo #13). I was so pleased to learn that the HCDS Co. carries almost everything I need. I was able to find these chocolate-making/gifting supplies:

    - Bulk chocolate: from dark Guittard to colored/flavored disks.

    - Chocolate molds: From inexpensive plastic molds to pro-quality polycarbonate and silicone molds.

    - Edible supplies: Natural flavorings for fillings, pre-made marzipan and caramel, cocoa butter, chocolate dyes, luster dust, petal dust, and sparkle dust.

    - Prep. and decorating tools: Candy and chocolate thermometers, confectioners paint brushes, pastry tips/bags, and chocolate-handling gloves.

    - Packaging materials: paper cups in every size and color, presentation bags and boxes of all kinds and a wall of ribbons to choose from.

The only supplies that I had to go elsewhere to buy were my basics (nuts, corn syrup, confectioners sugar, heavy cream, etc.) and a few specialized polycarbonate chocolate molds.  I also wish they had carried some fancier high-end chocolate like Valrohna but, given that this is primarily a cake shop, I imagine that it would be expensive to stock.

This store is well supplied with all those little incidental supplies that you need for your dessert projects. It is definitely a bit cluttered and things can be hard to find sometimes, but the owner is extremely knowledgeable and will point out what you need if you ask.

Give yourself a good 30-60 minutes for your visit...there is so much to see!

I run a cupcake business on the side, and I was at odds to where I should get my supplies from. The restaurant supply stores in Seattle didn't have specific baking necessities I needed.

Luckily I found Home Cake along Roosevelt (another plus that it wasn't in Bellingham or Renton), which was on my way home from work along Roosevelt in the Maple Leaf neighborhood.

The parking is a little difficult, from the way the slots are in this little strip mall building. So try to find parking on the street.

If you're a soccer mom baking cupcakes for her kid's class or a professional self-employed start up baker, you can find anything you may need to decorate. There are cake pans, ready made fondant, candy flowers, sugar decorations, ribbon, candles, chocolate melts in dark or milk (and in colors), and the most important items I go in mostly for: bakery cake boxes with inserts and boards.

I'd hate to give away my "secret" supplier (this place makes my work look so professional), but Home Cake has saved me in a cupcake order emergency on more than 1 occasion. I can be here for hours looking through everything and end up buying more than what I originally came for.

My daughter is learning to bake and wanted a certain baking kit from the local craft store for Christmas.  At 200 dollars per kit, I found it a tad hard to swallow.  I checked Yelp for a baking supply store and found this place.  Thank you fellow yelpers, this place did not disappoint.  It is cluttered, but that seems to be as it should.  The lady who helped me was extremely helpful.  She asked me great questions, took the time to understand who I was buying for and what level of skill set was involved.  Then she explained what each the things she recommended were used for  and how to build upon it.  I'm not a professional baker, but I had the sense that anything you would need could be found amongst the piles of goods she had on hand.

You definitely want to go to this store when you're not in a hurry, because a) there are so many things to look at, and b) yeah it's kind of a mess. We were there looking for candy molds for chocolate and didn't really know what we wanted, so we didn't mind poking around and searching through boxes all over the store - to us, that was part of the fun.

The store is smallish, but CRAMMED to the ceiling with all kinds of fancy cake pans, candy molds, colored sugars and sugar decorations, flavorings, cookie cutters, and more kinds of cupcake wrappers than I have ever seen in one place. Animal-print birthday candles? You got it! Sugar candy googly eyes? Sure! And it's all mixed together throughout the store, so if you don't find what you're looking for, it's probably tucked away somewhere on the other side of the room.

It was surprisingly busy on a Saturday afternoon, and the lady behind the counter periodically called out to everyone generally, asking if anyone needed anything, but otherwise let us do our thing without hovering, which I like. We had some questions about melting chocolate and she happily gave us some tips and advice.

I agree with other reviewers that there is a bit of a markup vs. grocery or discount stores, but then again, most of what this store has can't be found anywhere else. Buy the basics at Target or wherever and come here for your rabbit-riding-a-rooster candy mold needs.

For a long time when I saw this place in my neighborhood I wondered why on earth anybody would want an entire store full of cake decorating supplies.  I even have friends who are pretty serious cake decorators and still couldn't imagine an entire store dedicated to cake decorating supplies.  So, although I don't decorate cakes, I did have occasion to make some deviled eggs and I thought I'd stop by to see if they had a large tip to fill the eggs.  Of course they did!  Not only did I get the tip, but I also bought a disposable pastry bag ( .35) and LOTS of advice on how to execute the filling of the spectacular deviled eggs!  (Practice on a cookie sheet first, fold the bag down and put it in a tall glass when filling it, let up on the pressure before you lift the tip or you'll get unsightly peaks.)  It was like a mini-class right there, in front of the cash register, with just me as the student.

And you know what else?  When I was in the store I saw a whole bunch of other stuff that might come in handy for my varied culinary projects (that never include decorating cakes).  I'm sure I'll be back for something equally random as a tip for making deviled eggs.

When you walk in, you really feel like you've walked into the back room of the most well-stocked bakery ever. They have high end chocolate, so many variety of sugars, any cake pan you could need. I'm an amateur baker and I was in heaven!

I have found my new baking supply store and will definitely be back.

If it isn't out, that doesn't mean she doesn't have your item in one of the many boxes in the back. I love cake and I love Home Cake Decorating Supply Co.

    Wow! I mean WOW!

Huge selection of cake pans! HUGE! Plus lots of other doo dads and such.

I was on the hunt for 3 square cake pans. They were helpful and even threw in a few sheets of baking parchment and a tip on how to use it.

Also, a huge selection of decoration sugars and sprinkles and cookie cutters and cupcake liners and wedding supplies and candy making molds and on and on and on...

I will be back many many times now that I have found this place.

hahahahahaha!!!!! The chick (I think her name is Greil) owning this place is outa control. She has a stronghold on the industry. If you can get a wholesale account with decopac do it!

One time one of my employees went in here and straightened up for like 2 hrs. just because she couldn't stand how disorganized it is.

Another time a different one of my employees went in here and when the owner swiped her CC she dropped the card and it disappeared in the clutter for about 45min. The owner actually had my employee go behind the counter and dig for the card!!!

The lady knows every thing there is to know about cake supplies.

    Fondant is gross!

My mom took me here as a little girl to buy pre-tempered chocolate, chocolate molds and lollipop sticks - I loved making chocolate pops for class parties or to decorate birthday cakes for my dad.  And, of course, we always had impulse buys like edible metallic paint and cute sprinkles.  The place has not changed one bit in those twenty years: It is cleaner than my basement, but certainly as cluttered.  Items are grouped together so I wouldn't exactly call it disorganized, but there just isn't enough space for all of the decorating goodness!  Oh, and not really any signage to guide customers (but who cares since it is all so fun to look at?).

It does take a good amount of time to get in and out since there is just one woman to ring you up and she is always patiently and thoroughly answering questions.  When I was there, there was a line with four people in front of me, three of which had "a quick question" that actually led to a few other points of conversation.  I didn't mind since the lady was super nice and I learned a few things by eavesdropping.  When it came my turn, I was impressed that Super Sales Lady (pretty sure she's the owner) pointed out that there was an item in my basket that I probably didn't need and another that was likely the wrong size.  I think it is seriously impressive when a store owner puts my needs in front of the easy sale.

Three stars for the claustrophobia I had while in the store and lack of sales help (not that there'd be a place for a second employee!).  One more knowledgeable sales person and some clear signage and it'd be a 5-star place.

Oh, and don't even try to park in that tiny, awkward nightmare of a lot...  Save the headache and park on Roosevelt.

I love coming to this store to look around at all the neat cake decorating items, even if I end up not buying anything.  When I have been in the market for something in particular - cake decorating tips, cupcake cups, etc. - the owner has always been very helpful in explaining the uses and pros and cons of different items, and the prices are definitely reasonable.  The only downside is that it's not super organized, and as other reviewers have noted, it can take a little while to get in and out.  But still, I think that adds to its charm.

I love this store...   It's the cake pan equivalent of my favorite yarn shop:  Acorn Street (A little cramped/slightly confusing, but chock full of goodies you didn't know you needed).  No matter where you go, baking supplies (pans, pastry tips, cake stands, etc) are going to be spendy.  That's just a fact of life.  If I'm going to shell out the bucks for any of it though, I'd rather spend it here than a Sur la Table or Williams and Sonoma (not that I don't enjoy lusting after the goodies there too).

The woman who runs this shop is super knowledgeable/helpful, and quick to offer suggestions or substitutions if you can't find quite what you're looking for....  though if you can't find it here, you're definitely not going to find it in any of the chain shops around town.

This place has saved me from wedding cake trauma more than once!  Well the store...  and vodka...  Combined, it's amazing how much better they make me feel about my decorating skills!  Magic!  ;-)

If you like to bake (even remotely) you will love this store. I heard about it through a random blog and decided to check this place out. As soon as I entered, I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff that is crammed into this place!

It's total chaos and is a mess, but you are bound to get what you need and then some. I love to just stroll through the aisles and I end up finding all of these cool little tools!

They have a great selection of cake boxes (which they sell individually, should you only need one), cake rounds, powders, fondant, stands, etc!

Prices are good and the owner is EXTREMELY helpful. Mind you, she'll make others wait (and it sucks to have to wait) but it is definitely worth it! She saved me some moolah by telling me I didn't need a few things and could get away with others!

I love that this place is so close to my house, because I have had to rush here for emergency fondant in the past (they open at 10 am on Saturdays and there's usually a line of people outside with their own cake emergency waiting to rush home).  This place has almost everything you need, and if they don't have it, you can easily have it ordered.  It's packed to every nook and cranny, and sometimes it just is overwhelming (and a bit unorganized).  You will probably find things you didn't even realize existed and "absolutely HAVE" to have.

The lady that owns this place is very helpful.  She will stand there and talk you through every project you have and even will talk you out of buying unnecessary products as well so you don't waste your time or money.  She was amazingly wonderful and patient with me when I was making my first wedding cake order, and continues to be ever so helpful with each new order I take as well.  Heck, she's even so trustworthy that one time I realized I forgot to grab something and I had already paid that she said, "oh I know you'll be back, just pay for it next time."  I didn't know whether to think she was crazy or not, but then I realized, "oh wait...I've been coming here every other day for the past 2 weeks...she knows I'm coming back...damn, I'm a regular now."

I absolutely adore this place and could live here and spend hours going through the stuff here.  The boyfriend is driven crazy by what he considers "clutter and unorganized mess."  I say this only to warn those of you who are totally OCD before entering.

I don't think there's another place quite like Home Cake in Seattle. Seriously, this is a must stop if you're a beginner attempting to make your own cake.  Well, I should clarify and say attempting to decorate your own cake.  Because, let's face it, the cake part is almost a no brainer. But decorating the cake and having it look really beautiful, that's the hard part.

Here you can find, not only the most extensive selection of cake decorating supplies I have ever seen, but you also get to consult with the owner who is someone generous with her knowlede and passionate about cake decorating.  You always feel a little bit more inspired and confident that yes, you can do it.

It is a tiny little place and it is crammed with lots of fun goodies, but I enjoy it and like other have said, it's nice to support a locally owned small business.

You know why I love this place? The owner is incredible generous with her time and information. Talk about going beyond good customer service.

A few years ago I popped in here while pursuing the daunting task of deciding on a cake for my own wedding.
I was obviously not there to find my own cake supplies, but she went out of her way to get an idea what I was attempting to find and gave me a list of her favorite bakers in town. Low and behold, I found a couple who ran a small independent business, who that made us an incredible cake (that tasted superb)- exactly what I was looking for.

Now that I am discovering baking as an alternative sport, I need to make a visit for my own purposes....although I fear the multitude of choices! A veritable baking rabbit hole.

Like most others, I love this store!  Just a bit of advice, have a snack before you go and don't go if you're tired.  It takes a lot of energy to go through all of the piles of stuff in the store whether you're looking for something specific or just browsing.  I love that they sell individual cake boxes, cake rounds, meringue powder, glucose, etc. that you'd normally have to buy large quantities of.

Four stars rather than five because, well, it's not all that clean for a place you'd buy food-stuffs from.

My new favorite place to shop!!

As I'm getting more into baking- I'm stocking up on supplies as I need them. :) There are so many decorative & creative things you just cannot find in the baking section at your local grocery store or dept store.

The owner is very helpful. I have a hundred questions and each time she is patient & gives me the best options. When I was in there the other day this guy came in that had lost a bet with his cousin and needed to make a pineapple upside down cake. He picks up a pineapple shaped baking pan and is clueless on the rest! As I was looking around I heard her walking him through what he needed to make his "punishment". Although, it sounds super fun to me~ Maybe he'll find that he enjoys it. :)

The parking lot can be a little tricky. I parked in one spot that had a divot and caused me to scrape under the bumper. I hate when that happens.

The customer service could not be better. The woman who runs the place is extremely helpful and willing to offer free advice and doesn't try to sell you things you don't really need. She made me feel less intimated by materials I haven't worked with and helped inspire courage. Really above and beyond.

If you are in the market to find some fun things to make decorating your baked creations a wonderful experience, look no further.  If you want to try something new and need a little advice to get started, this is the place.

I credit my experiences here and the help to having very successful at home baking parties with teen kids that haven't had much experience in the kitchen.  On a return trip, I needed some advice on frosting a cake and ice cream cake.

Yes, this store is crowded.  Yes, you need to wait your turn and accommodate the fact that usually there is only one person available to help in the store.  The great thing is amid all the tumble is you can find all you need to make your own unique creations and helpful advice.

Make sure you have time when you come here as this isn't a convenience store.

Despite the fact I'm a Food Network addict, my cakes suck. The cake itself is fine, but they look like a 5 year old did the decorating.  On a tip from my sister I stopped in here and found SO MUCH stuff to decorate with there's just no way I can screw up the next cake. Or cupcakes, 'cause they have the greatest pans to make them with. Sprinkles you can't find anywhere else, like little animal shapes. Sugar flowers. Icing bags and tips. Pans. Sugars. Colors. Flavors. I had no idea. I really want to try a cake covered with fondant. Anyway, this place is easy to miss and not at all fancy, but word of mouth keeps lots of customers coming in the door and it's easy to see why.

First time customer soon to be long time. Great stuff, cluttered but good. I love supporting local businesses, and this is a great one to support. The owner is the only employee and she'd got tons of advice and is really friendly. Seattle is an impossible city to find baking supply's in, Home Cake Decorating Co. offers a huge supply of all your baking needs and its cheap! For instance; those colored sugars that retail for nearly $5 for 2oz at the grocery store and "other" cooking stores costs $2 for 4oz, twice as much for more than half the cost.

This place is a mess, but it has everything. I know some reviewers say it takes a long time to shop here, but if you take into account the time you would spend going to 4 different stores to gather what you can get here in one stop, it pays to shop here.

The owner has always been friendly and helpful to me, and I've gone in here many times over the years.

Four stars for the disorganization, otherwise I would give 5 stars.

Just bring your patience along to the store & you'll have fun. My favorite item is their silver sugar - my kids use the dust from it to make glittery snow on their gingerbread houses.

    Wow wow wow!
What a neat lady, what a fun place.
I'm no baker but sometimes a girl just needs to pretend she's the great cake-inator.
This little tiny place is CRAMMED FULL of stuff for making cakes, cookies, pastries.  You name it.
    Plus miscellaneous decorating thingies.
I particularly liked the coloured sugars (for rimming cocktail glasses, duh!), and when she saw me with the gold sugar (making lemon drops this weekend) she told me about this edible sparkly gold dust that bartenders use -just a smidgeon in a champagne glass and the bubbles come up gold! (cha-CHING!)
Also found I couldn't do without a gold scallop-edged cardboard base to put the cake on, and another cooling rack, AND an instant read thermo 'cause like a dork I left my old one stuck in a roast at 400 degrees and MELTED the friggin thing.
    Score.  What a place.
Remember how crowded the old Arche McPhee used to be?  This place makes that look like an empty warehouse by comparison.  If she don't gots it, you don't needs it.
You know you've got some cake-ination in ya.
    Get it out!

Best. Place. Ever. for baking supplies.  This is my go-to place for supplies.  The place looks like a hoarders' dream filled from floor to ceiling with everything you need.  And I mean everything.  Do not be overwhelmed - just ask the nice owner for help.

Great place to get all your baking, caking, candy and decorating needs!! I don't make cakes (I would if I could but my oven tells me its not going to happen) but I like to make things with chocolate molds for the holidays. They have a ton of molds and good melting chocolate too! The staff is really helpful as well. Only bummer is the hours cause I can never make it there during the week from where I live and work so I have to plan ahead of time when I want to make something to get there on a Saturday since they are closed on Sundays.

In my search to find a place that has good quality and selection of cupcake supplies I stumbled across Home Cake.  This place is awesome and the owner even more fantastic.  Admittedly, the place is a disaster and you definitely have to be willing to spend a lot of time there but it is by far the best bakery supply shop around.  If you're really looking for something specific just ask the owner, she is a wealth of info and amidst all the chaos she knows exactly where everything is.  The prices are great, super competitive.  I wish she had a little more selection for mini cupcake decorations but that's about my only complaint.  I'll definitely be coming back here for all my baking needs!!

Love love LOVE this store. It is jam packed with ANYTHING you could ever want to bake a cake. The owner is an expert, always full of helpful ideas and eager to answer any questions. I have been there a dozen times (and it is WAY out of my way) and every time I go there I discover something new that I never knew I really, really needed.
