I eat here fairly regularly, most times ordering the same thing: a lemonade, a beef burger chipotle with BBQ sauce done medium rare, sweet potato fries and a side of tempura fried plantains.  I've never left Homage feeling that my meal was inadequate or anything less than good, and if I did, I probably wouldn't eat there once a week.  Sure, it may be a couple dollars more expensive than other burger places, but then again, I haven't been able to find a comparable burger place in the area.  I like the convenience of being able to come home late from work, walk around the block, and eat a tasty burger.  For that benefit alone, I will gladly pay a two dollar premium.

I suppose the only gripe I have about Homage is that the service can be slow on occasion.  Then again, every time I come in, it seems that they have added something new (like the bar).

If you ever have a problem with your food, or a suggestion, the owner is usually at the counter.  Tell her what your thoughts are and I am sure she will make an effort to improve the quality of your dining experience.

So, this place papered our building with menus last week, and tonight I ordered from them for the first time to check out whether or not the menu stays in our regular rotation.

I got a normal burger, because I figure a burger place should be tested first on the basics.  Deluxe, with herb fries.  But they have all sorts of burgers (tofu, veggie, mushroom, tuna, turkey...) and a few things that are not burgers besides.  When asked, I requested it cooked medium.  $8.40, with tax.

(By the way, no delivery minimum, but the menu says "free delivery 6-9pm." I ordered within that window, so I don't know if that means they only deliver then or if they charge for delivery at other times.)

About 15-20 minutes later, a ridiculously cute delivery boy was at my door, burger in hand.  Burger was a decent size - not huge, not particularly thick, but it was certainly enough to leave me stuffed, especially given the rather generous heap of fries (skinny, not at all soggy as delivery fries often are, dusted with a tasty spice and herb blend).  And it was perfectly pink in the middle - nice, as delivery burgers almost always come overcooked in my experience.  Packets of ketchup, mustard, mayo in the bag, and no unnecessary extra menus and heaps of plastic cutlery (I don't even want to think about how many Thai and Japanese menus and plastic forks we throw out in this house, no matter how many times I tell them we don't need them).

Was it the best burger and fries I've ever had?  No. Was it tasty, properly cooked, satisfying, and promptly delivered?  Definitely.

And did I mention how freakin' adorable that delivery boy was?

    Major bummer.

Burger tasted like it had been cooked directly over a gaslight.
Meat tasted like it had a frozen aftertaste.
    Fries were bland.

Plus we waited nearly an hour for our two burgers...

Maybe it was an off day for them, but seriously disappointing.
Two stars for the place itself, cozy.

    Delicious food and excellent service!

I've ordered in and eaten here both with good results, though, I can say the food was a little better when I ate in.

I've only had the portobello and turkey burgers but both were excellent and the roasted sweet potatoes are delicious. By the way, the whole wheat bun they use for the portobello is awesome and works great as a substitution for the turkey burger as well.

The reason I had to log in and yelp was that tonight they got my order wrong and when I called back they were kind and cool and had my corrected order to me before I finished the part of the order they got right. The delivery guy is great as well, nice to see a friendly face.

When I'm hungry, I still hit up Homage from time to time. I'm just writing to say that I was surprised to find the plantain tempura with chili sauce to be such a let down. I guess I'm just used to having ripe, sweet, sticky, crisp-on-the-outside plantains. These were hard, almost tasteless. And the sweet chili sauce is just the stuff you see in a jar at most asian groceries.
No more of that. But the veggie burgers are still bangin' :)

Fun little funky place. Good burgers, but good alternative options too, even breakfast (if you like eating breakfast after 1pm!) - It's cool that this place and Chavella's are less than a block from each other.

Also the space feels big enough that I see myself just coming by for an afternoon coffee sometime and chilling out.

Homage should add some coffee and/or tea to their menu, because I would love to come hang out here to do some work or reading.  It's close and comfortable, with cool atmosphere.  You don't even have to bring your own reading, they have plenty provided, and it looks like interesting stuff.

I'll I've had is the tofu burger, but I keep coming back for more.  It's pretty damn delicious and a break from the typical veggie burger routine.  And they have beer now!  I was the very first person to order one, thank you very much, and then they gave me another on the house.  The only time I've ordered delivery, everything arrived pretty soggy, but that's okay because I'd rather come eat inside anyway.

I live on the block so I've been here fairly frequently and I'm very pleased to have Homage as one of the new businesses along (or just off) Franklin.

The owners and employees are extremely friendly and they've changed the shop around a few times to make things more comfortable for people to eat in as well as opening up a backyard during the summer.   I've noticed that most businesses in the area have a hard time getting people to eat in rather than do take out and delivery so don't judge them if the shop looks empty.

The food is very consistent and I've always been pleased.  My favorite is the tofu burger with herb fries but the meat options are quite good as well.  The fries are always well done which is an area most burger joints tend to slack off in.

I saw this "Gormet Burger Bar" in my neighborhood I was very excited to go and try it out, got on my bike and rolled over the couple blocks. Its a cute place and looks like they are building a bar there. The wait was short since i was one of four people there (all others were employees) was this a sign?

    This is what i ordered:
Beef BBQ Burger w/ baby greens, vine ripe tomatoes and red onions plus the herb fries
with a red stripe for the wait. Total was $15bucks.

    what i got was.

Fries that reminded me of Mcdonalds which I havnt had for years but the salt and size brought back memories, and not very good ones. There were maybe some herbs on them but not enough to taste past the salt.

The burger a good size bedded on a piece of lettuce (i think it was romaine but definitely not baby and far from green) the tomato was one that may have been boosted by a few hormones and lacked the ripe taste. The meat was drowning in bbq, something like what you would expect for ribs and it had a bit of chard taste, does the grill need cleaning?
anyways the guy at the counter was nice but i was a bit disappointed about the burger which I had been very excited about. hopefully better luck next time.

Since I visited during the summer it was the cute garden seating that initially lured me in. While I was there two employees were renovating the area, so I imagine it looks even better now. Perhaps it was an off day, but I waited what felt like nearly 45 minutes for a  tuna burger with fries. I think it was the wait time coupled with the pangs of soul-crushing starvation that really set the expectation up high for this tuna burger. Yet after I finished it I found myself wanting to tell the burger, "You did your job. Barely. So what?". Needless to say, the food was very average, as in I could have slapped this together in my kitchen in less than 20.

I'm pretty sure Homage is closed. Unless they are adeptly operating under a cloak of invisibility since last summer that protects them from sweet-potato fry fiends like myself.

The place is nice enough, but it's a bit expensive and the food is underwhelming. I appreciate that they have several options including veggie friendly burgers but it just doesn't do much for me.

The right price with relatively fast delivery. Second time the delivery guy didn't have *any* change, which irked me a bit, but the food was worth that minor frustration.

I was really excited to try this place because I've been searching for a great burger joint in my neighborhood, but I was pretty let down.  The burger was really dry even though I ordered it medium-rare.  The sweet potato fries were solid.  I was willing to give the place another shot, but the other reviewers on Yelp seem to have had similar exeriences.

So, I want to love this place, as it is just a few doors down from my home-age (couldn't help it).
But, they just don't seem to putting in the extra effort. While the place is warm and cozy, and the staff very friendly, and the prices reasonable, the food just isn't anything special.
Owners of Homage, listen up. I have some suggestions:
    1. Make a better, more interesting burger, with better quality ingredients. I've had both the veggie burger (which was soggy and a bit bland), and the beef burger (which had no pizzazz). Take baby steps, Homage. First, your rolls: Why bother with those sparsely seeded McDonald's reminiscent rolls. You can do better than this. How about an egg-based roll, or a nice crusty ciabatta to lay your beef on. Second, the cheese! Ahhh!!! I didn't taste it at all. Jalapeno? How 'bout offering a jalapeno burger, with fresh jalapenos and jack cheese? Something to spice it up.
    2. Branch out. Regardless of whether or not your burgers were grilled to perfection, I would still camp out in your cozy dining room if you served coffee/tea/etc.
    Please, I need you homage.
    You've got potential!
Which is evident in your one saving grace that I've tasted, which is the fried pumpkin with sweet chili sauce. Delicious! This is what earned you 3 stars instead of 2.
p.s. make sure you give your delivery person change!

homage gets 5 stars because the food is awesome.  i had the veggie burger, and never in my life have i had a veggie burger like this.  first of all it was huuuuge.  it was definitely homemade (not like, morningstar thrown on a grill and passed off as homemade).  there were chunks of peas and other vegetables thrown in, and a slight flavoring i cant put my finger on, maybe curry? anyway, my boyfriend had a burger, and he said it was really good.  his was huge as well.  such a good meal for such a low price. i think both our meals came to like, 15.00, probably not even.  love this place.  try it.  plus it just opened, and you should support them.

The burgers here are pretty good, my portabello mushroom pesto burger was DELICIOUS, but my boyfriend got the regular cheeseburger which was just alright. But the restaurant itself is so cute and such a great atmosphere. Lots of comfy chairs, magazines and games. We sat there for a couple hours playing chess and scrabble, and will definitely be back. I would recommend this more for a place to hang out and spend an afternoon than just getting it delivered.

the first time i went to homage was for the opening night party. there was a plethora of booze and pineapple platters and loud reggae and dancing girls. it was eerily like my living room on a monday afternoon. i didn't try the food until recently, but the burgers are pretty decent. the menu also offers more adventuresome fare (portobello, tofu, cornish hen), so those who scoff at the egalitarian value of a cheeseburger can sashay in that direction. it's not a destination spot, but it's a viable place to wolf down a slab of cow.
