I attended HSB&G's Vocalist Showcase on THURSDAY NIGHT which is followed by Open Mic & Open Band.  After an incredible showcase that transported the entire crowd to the '20's, Open Mic/Band was such a treat - I even got to perform a jazz song accompanied by a live band!

Everyone who sang & played was quite talented, about 20 artists and/or jazz enthusiasts, including Bass Trombonist & Tenor Sax -but not intimidating or snobby at all as long as you're a comfortable singer/musician.

If you want to sing just about any jazz song, the BRILLIANTLY-TALENTED live band (piano, guitar, drums!) will know it, but if it's obscure or not a classic bring sheet music just in case, the pianist's (Karen Hernandez) playing is stunning!

Classy alternative to a loud karaoke night, I highly recommend bringing  a group here especially if you love to perform and/or play music, or hear spectacular Jazz!

I'm ambivalent about this three star review.

The food is two (2) stars but the entertainment on Monday night as part of the Tiger Lilly stand-up comedy show is a solid (4) stars.  Not sure why you're looking to go to Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're only planning to go for the comedy or some other form of entertainment.  The beer selection is brief and boring (Stella & Negra Modelo).

The comedy on the other hand was non-stop with something like 20 comics each doing a 10 minute set.  Good comics too like Jonah Rae, Marc Maron, and Nick Kroll.  The comedy is free with a two drink minimum?  Crazy good deal. These are comics you'd pay $15+ to see in other towns.  Man I love Los Angeles and the need comics have to test new material.

Just eat before you arrive.  I had a hamburger and french fries which was simply meh.

I came here for a small event put on by a non-profit organization I'm very much involved in, and it was just GREAT! Small, cute, very well decorate, nuzzled into the corner of that shopping strip on Sunset where Starbucks and Rite Aid share a parking lot. The stage was small, perfect for the small band that was playing. Service was excellent, their wine was delicious and the fettucini was AMAZING. I will come back, even if it's just for the fettucini.

This place is awesome and deserves support. Great food and Thursday night jazz with selected talent followed by open mike. People who performed night I recently visited were awesome. Atmosphere great. Dolores who organizes the music was wonderful. Whole experience was memorable. Definitely visit on a Thursday evening if you enjoy jazz and some remarkable performers.

You don't go here and not have a conversation with Dolores.  She's got a way of making you feel like you've known her all this time, yet ... you just met.  The mark of a really great host of this place.  Fulfill a longtime dream of singing along with unbelievable musicians, or have a drink and experience musicians and singers that you'd NEVER see anywhere else.

My experience for the first time where my long time friend, Charmaine Clamor, took me ... was that of absolute surprise and awe of how many of the vocalists I saw that night blew my mind.  Don't know why we've never "heard" of some of these talented singers, but this is the place to go if you not only want to be entertained by Dolores and the musicians, but to feel a bit like a throw back in time to the old jazz clubs back in the day.

I live in Denver, so i can't frequent this place, but if I did live back here like I have all my life, this would be my go-to place.

Say hi to Dolores and tell 'em Lola sent ya!

    Come for the show!

I've been here twice within the last couple weeks to see my buddy, Frankie Marrone, compete in Cabaret Idol.

On our first visit, we ordered a few Stellas and kept it simple with a spinach quesadilla to share. The quesadilla was all right, it reminded me of any other concert venue / bar food - not much to it and kind of bland. But, the funny thing was, our server recommended it.

On that note, the service was lacking, being the 2nd and 3rd shows and how it was a full house for each, there was still only 2 servers - yes, the place is small but to flag someone down during a performance is quite a feat.

But, we didn't come for dinner, we came for the show! The acoustics are decent and even though the venue might be small, and you may sit towards the bar you'll still have a clear shot of the riser (unless someone gigantic sits in front of you).

In the end, this place is the type of spot I've been looking for on the Westside: letting up and coming artists perform their hearts out.

    Tip:
If you come for a popular show, please try to get there early. Parking may be free, but it shares a lot with a Starbucks, Denny's and Rite Aid.

    Diggin' it!

A friend and I literally ran into this place to enjoy a few drinks before heading over to the palladium (after a disappointing visit to The Well) and I'm so happy we decided to stop in.  This place is quaint and comfortable, the bartender was friendly, drinks were great.. and it looked like they were setting up for a comedy show of sorts.

    Nice!

Could it be? A place in Hollywood that lacks pretension AND has free parking?! Yes, folks, it's true...such a place actually exists!

They have flamenco performances every other Wednesday night, and since I LOVE LOVE LOVE all things España, I had to check it out. I had never heard of this place before, but I've passed by it many a time since it's located in a shopping center right on Sunset, one block east from the Palladium.

There was a $10 cover but the entertainment was absolutely worth every penny! This was my first time seeing a live flamenco show, and it was awesome! The music was absolutely beautiful while the featured dancer gave an intense and amazing performance. I loved it!

The food was great, reasonably priced and served in huge portions! The spinach quesadilla appetizer was divine, a definite must-try. The jambalaya was really good too, not too spicy and full of chicken, sausage, shrimp and peppers. I think that one plate could serve 3-4 people alone.

The space itself is small and cozy with low lighting and candles on every table. The stage is to the right of the entrance, and there are booths on the sides and plenty of tables in the middle. Get there around 10ish to grab a seat or else you'll have to stand at the bar in the back. This place is great for a romantic, quiet date...the music really gets you in the mood for some bow chicka wow wow.

Went here to see Thelonious Dub play and that was awesome.  The food was pretty good.

I had their prime rib and I said "as raw as possible" and there was not a pink spot to be found.  And, I was the first person there, so they couldn't use the "it's all gone" excuse I get so often.  However, the meat tasted really good.

I also had a dirty martini made by the uber hot bartender my friend Victor was getting to know.  It was very tasty.

As for a venue, it works nicely.  The sound was excellent and, of course, Thelonious Dub is worth seeing anywhere.  so they really added to the event.

As for people like Raul P. who think that paying for food separate from the cover charge is strange - um ... I don't quite get you.  The cover goes to the band.  The food money goes to the venue.  And the band ain't making Ferrari money off your $15.

What Raul and I seem to agree on is that Hollywood Studio Bar and Grill brings in good music and the food is less good.

I will make sure to update as I've never actually been inside but we just got delivery at work and am very satisfied.

I wanted something light so I got the drunken shrimp appetizer. The beer simmer sold me, and it even came with a side of rice which was nice ($9). I was also pleasantly surprised to see they were the  big jumbo shrimp. Not the frozen twerps like TGIF serves. There were about 7 or 8 of them too. The cajun cream sauce was dope and everyone else liked there meal. Most people got the cheeseburger.

The delivery was quick and comes with no BS delivery fee. I was surprised to read they are a live music venue. Looking forward to seeing some jazz after work maybe!

Last night, August 20th, a man is in the hospital. Another went home covered in his own blood. And I was sucker punched in the jaw by a man twice my size.

All because of one place. The Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill at the Gower Gulch. That's Gower and Sunset on the East side of Hollywood. They continue to run the same events that bring around people who continue to jump random and defenseless people in the parking lot for the crime of walking to their cars alone.

The establishment accepts no accountability when a man is locked in their bathroom with five people who beat the holy hell out of him for twenty minutes then go back out to party more. They offer no assistance to the police when patrons of their establishment shoot at some one and the bullets go through the walls of the businesses next door, just barely missing perfectly innocent patrons and employees inside. They lie and obscure truths to keep their clientele who are known to pay them off in a fashion practically akin to reverse "Protection" money. They tell the police there were no problems when asked about fights in their establishment where a man is beaten so badly he can't remember anything that happened for almost the last three months. This is only a small gathering of the problems they cause. The crimes they commit and support.

Anyone who works at a business in the Gulch, or is a customer of those others businesses, can corroborate these statements. Denny's, Starbucks, Amagi, Rite Aid, ToGo's... check with any of these places. You'll hear stories of employees threatened and assaulted with no recriminations.

The police do nothing. Repeatedly they've come out and seen people covered in blood, taken away in ambulances, or in severe cases, near death.

So, the only option we are apparently left with is economical. Boycott the place. Tell your friends. Do not go there, do not play shows there. Repost this everywhere you can. They are a cancer on Hollywood, and they need to stop being supported by our money.

    Thank you for your time.

We had lunch here yesterday because we thought it was the Tidal Wave, but we could not find Tidal Wave and ended up in the Hollywood Studio Bar.

The prices were a bit more than we wanted to pay for lunch but we ordered anyway.

My mom had Fried Shrimp with cole slaw, I had Chicken.  We ordered crab cakes appetizer and they were about the size of my thumb and you only get three.   Well which bite of one inch crab cake should we fight over  ?

The cole slaw was good, The shrimp were the best we have had in LA so far.   We are used to Gulf Shrimp (great flavor shrimp, sought after by chefs).

Over all the place had a nice decor, the waitors were nice and attentive.  It was quiet and the music was very COOL.

I wont be back because I was not overly impressed with the food for the price.

In our book, the food better be great especially if its going to command a higher price.

It does have a bar and i would suspect that the bar is the major source of revenue for this place on weekends.

My friend Janet is moving to Austin, TX and had a going away party here on a Friday night. Why? Because it's one of the best damn places for Karaoke in Hollywood on a Friday. I've been to other places like Dimples that are so packed you might get to sing once in a night.  Hardly any body comes to HSBG on Friday nights so I was able to sing 4 times!  They don't have as complete a selection but there are still thousands of songs to choose from.

Some of the people in our group had eaten there many times and enjoyed it.  I took a recommendation for the cheeseburger and it was quite good. Comes with grilled onions and chipotle mayo. It's totally decent 3-star bar food. I'd stick to salads, sandwiches and tacos/burritos to avoid disappointment.

Located in the corner of The Gower Gulch (Sunset and Gower), parking is a breeze since  Amagi Japanese restaurant next door is closed.

Yeah the ambiance is low-rent but it's an inexpensive place to hang out, have a couple drinks, fill your belly and get your groove on.

Located right next to Gower studios the Hollywood Studios Bar & Grill has taken over where Amagi left off and more. For the price the food comes in big portions and is rather tasty.

The bartenders treat you well the more they see you. Be friendly, good things happen.

There are so much entertainment at this place. Karaoke, Comedy, Music, & open mic.

The comedy is a score. Ghetto comedy night once a month. One of the hosts actually sold a sack of weed in the middle of his show! Only in Los Angeles. And on "Not Ghetto" comedy night I saw what is now one of my fave comedians because he is genuinely funny. It didn't feel like a routine because it flowed so smoothly. One of my more favorite jokes was that he had a hard time holding his head up because his unibrow was so heavy. Classic.

It's a little bubble in Hollywood. A dive so you get all walks of life from hoes from the gutter to big time actors and film makers. Great place.

Its an alright place.. Went here to see a local jazz group perform. They are the only reason for the second star.

The decor is that of a clean, cloth napkin type restaurant. They have about 10 tables with tablecloths and boozhie folded napkins, that seat four, and then booths around the other two walls. A small stage is up front for  performances, and the bar is in the rear. The stingy bartender I had served me my Bombay and Tonic, and didn't even bother to fill the glass with Tonic (let alone Bombay!) before charging me $9. The crowd is an older, Caucasian, and somewhat gay crowd. Watch out for the assorted sex paraphernalia for sale in the back including the thankfully-up-till-now-never-heard-of-by-me "Boy Butter". Gross.

"Last Christmas" will forever be the anthem cherished most dearly when HSBG comes to mind & vice versa.

Reason: the very classic song belted among a dozen new friends who took me into their karaoke fold on a recent random Friday nite excursion.

No joke, met these pals face to face, name by name, all b/c the bartender/owner, Sir Angel became my actual guardian angel on a nite that seemed somewhat bleak of entertaining opportunities.

Real Reason: for being there, was supposed to catch some http://meetup.com pals for jazz. My lazy honkas arrived a tad late, like 3hrs late. No group, no shows. So ordered myself a self-pity $9 Cosmo instead. At least there was no cover that eve.

Sir Angel, sensing my slight dismay hooked me up w/some seriously jazzy pineapple flavored Skyy Vodka martini. Not stopping there, he literally took me under his wing, introducing me to amazingly friendly group of talented amateur/professionals.

One after another, the bunch rocked the stage, then a conga line formed, more comp shots followed w/no signs of the lights dimming even though 30mn.left til closing.

In all, left w/adoring memories for a place my soul can call home. Even that one elderly regular crooner, in his Sinatra selections, yearning in his melodious voice for eras gone by, perhaps for a lost love?...or a new one yet to find?...found here when one's heart is open to good times, as was mine most certainly.

"Last Xmas, I gave you my heart, but the very next day"...I'd like to revisit here, again & again!

This place used to be called Tidal Wave Seafood -- they remodeled and changed their name during the past year, when they put in the bar.  The prices have gone up some since the Tidal Wave days, but the food is always just as fresh and tasty as ever.  Not sure about the nighttime bar scene mentioned by another Yelper, but this is an excellent place for a casual lunch or dinner.

I tend to stick with seafood choices, like the seared ahi salad (my fave) or the crab cake sandwich, but I've heard the non seafood items are very good as well.  Fast, fresh delivery for office lunch meetings, too.

Monday's entertainment was awesome.  Live band, Adonis, played some awesome tunes, the DJ Pod Timba dished out awesome latin tunes and even performed a casino rueda routine.

As for this venue, it stunk.  A group of us had dinner and restaurant was charging us a cover of $15 on top of it (what the?).  The food was so so.  I had the cuban chicken dinner with black beans and plantains.  The chicken was over-cooked, the plantains were dry, the sauce was bland and the beans, were beans.

If you want cuban food, go elsewhere.  If you want to listen to Adonis, catch him someplace else.  If you want to catch DJ Pod Timba, look for him at Club Silhouette in Downtown Burbank.

We popped in for 10 minutes on a Sunday afternoon.  Literally.  We skipped the tables and went to the bar and didn't have to pay the cover.

The jazz band was killer.  Stoked that we got to see them.  The inside of the place is bare and kinda lifeless.  The cocktails are EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!

Don't half step.  Go there on a whim and you'll have fun.

(One star for the food because you can't select no star, but four stars for the live music and the DJ)

I had dinner at Hollywood Studio Bar and Grill last night and I afraid I don't have a lot of nice things to say about the food.  My best experience last night at the restaurant was the live music by Adonis Puentes.

I ordered the house special paella and I regretted my decision at my first bite.  I've had paella at many places; some good, some bad and some terrible.  My paella last night was definitely in the terrible category.  The paella I ordered came with two half-dollar size scallops, about four or five large shrimps, about ten mussels (in shells), chunks of chickens and sausages.  What about the taste?  Salty, soggy and oily just about cover the whole experience.  The mussels were not fresh and completely rubbery.  The chicken pieces were very dry.  And there was a pool of oil at the bottom of the plate!  I was not pleased with the dish at all.  The paella cost $16.95 but it was $16.95 too expensive for that kind of quality.  I would definitely avoid ordering the paella next time; that is if I would ever go back to that place again.

This place is awesome. I love the food. The drinks are strong which is a plus. Also, every Wednesday night from 10:00pm - 1:00am, Freakmode Squad Entertainment and Tward host Crossover Comedy, which is a hilarious adult comedy show. The show features well-known comics who have preformed on BET, The Comedy Store, TV One and more. Everyone should check the show out at least once. It is only $5 per person and parking is free!!!! Also, there are drink specials a lot of the time.

If you're looking for a sedate, private place, just go here around 6:30 or 7 PM.  The place was empty.   Despite an extensive menu, the place doesn't really start hopping until 8:30 or so, when people come in for the entertainment.  They really should come earlier.  The food is delicious!  We had the quesadillas with shrimp and they were yummy!  My daughter's stuffed chicken and my filet mignon were wonderful too.  We topped it off with lucious banana cream pie.  (They were out of the creme brulee).  Reasonable prices and very nice people.  Really, check them out.  You won't be disappointed.

The food is fine, the waiters are attentive and efficient. Price would be if, if in a better neighborhood.  However, Dolores Peterson, the promoter, unfortunately holds the audience hostage by forcing us to listen to her sing.  Just because she's there every night, doesn't mean she should force people to listen to her gawd awful singing voice.  Her vibrato sounds like a car trying to start and her tone seems to lean toward FLAT!  No thank you.  Never again!

I LOVE this place!!! It's a hidden treasure in Hollywood, that's for sure, AMAZING food (my fav is the Ahi tuna sandwich, with fries, a salad with ginger dressing SO good and only like $10!!) and sometimes there's a jazz show or comedy show, such great ambiance, such nice people, go check it out and help out a local business in our neighborhood!!

I go here a lot for lunch. It is not the most fancy place look wise. But I love the food. Everyone I take say the same. They have the best blackened chicken salad. Best salad I have ever had... And that is coming from someone that only eats salad. I have been there night time when there has been jazz nights which was nice. I didn't have to pay cover since I eat dinner there. I have been there 3 nights. I never had a problem in the area, I know there has been on the news a couple of years ago someone got shot there. But over all the staff is nice and the food cheap and great!!!!
