14 reviews for Hollywood Sports Paintball Park
do i paintball? hehe..NO. so why am i reviewing a paintball field?
I've dropped my nephew and his friend's here a couple times and have had to wait around for them, pay for and watch them play for hours so I think Im somewhat qualified to review this place.
Also, my first encounter here was in '03 when one of my graphic arts professors took the class on an impromptu field trip to the park. He was apart of a tagging crew and they did murals and decorated the park. So if you hate the decor, blame them!
Anyway, Im not sure how much paintballing should cost but my intrinsic values wanted to shout, "holy crap this was expensive!" 4 people renting all equipment and admission and all that = $320.00. Its just a lot for something Im not participating in. Like others have said, they force you to buy THEIR paint so that sucks.
I dont know much about paintball guns, but the people Ive taken here say their guns suck. Yes, they're rentals so "what do you expect? ", but apparently, as opposed to other places in So. Cal they really suck.
They have 4 different fields which is cool and they all have different themes...Mad Max, Apocalypse, another one and some kind of Star Wars desert planet theme with domes n shit...i like my title for the 4th field better....yes, havent been in but i think the theme in cute but i heard that all fields are much smaller than other paintball parks in So Cal and that some fields do suck. Which ones? dont know.,
They do have an observation deck where you can watch and see people who take the game really seriously. This is also where a some of the lockers are and hence people get ready here so its really fuckin filthy. I know you cant expect much but im just saying. Theres splattered paint, garbage and cold pizza in their boxes strewn about. This isnt the worst part....
...the worst part is the paintball groupies. You know, the middle school aged chicks that watch their boyfriends play. They're loud, obnoxious and serve no real purpose. Its a personal hatred...Im just saying...
And now the staff....the guys are cool. They know what they're doing and are quick, knowledgeable and helpful. The girls....the one selling passes up in the shop is completely indifferent to the world. Yeah, if its a busy day she's stressed and can understandably be short with you--what's your excuse on a non-busy day?
Also, the ones in the rental cage are all business. There was a girl who looks like she's 14 and kept sending me away back to the shop or to talk to a manager because she couldnt understand what I was trying to rent. Everytime we needed another mask because the ones she gave fogged up really bad or we simply needed more air, she always made a big fuss about it. It always took forever to get anything from them.
All in all, from what ive heard there are much better paintball parks out there BUT this paintball park IS in an urban area and is close to everything so that is a very important perk for me. Its easy to find, I dont have to drive out a couple of hours to get to it....good stuff. I suggest coming here if you're in the area just so you can say you've been.
Pros:
I love PAINTBALL!
Really cool terrain
Lots of different things to do here
Helpful staff
Cons:
Prices are STEEEP!
Some of the terrain smells so bad...like poop.
I love paintballing. Love....L-O-V-E. I had so much fun! The staff was very organized as to getting people in and out of the arenas on time. We had a reserved group game so they made sure we never had to wait for an open arena. We could just tell them whenever we want to go in and they always said "yeah no problem!".
The arenas were realllyy fun! I bet they had a good time planning out how to build them. There was a total of about 5-6 different arenas. My favorite was Mad Max and the little small narrow one...i think that was Korea.
The horrible part was how expensive it was. The cheapest box of paintballs you can get is 60 dollars, entry was 50 bucks, and another 10 bucks for a whole day of air. Ouch :(
Also, the stages smell like poop. I dont know why but it was prettty gross. Running around with all your gear on and holding a gun makes you breathe really hard...but when you're breathing and it smells like poop,it aint so pleasant.
They have a couple picnic tables for you where you can bring in your own food and eat after a day of raging, a lot of sitting areas, and lots of stations to help you out with whatever you need.
I would def come back, but if I found a place with cheaper prices, I might be more inclined to go there instead =x
I went paintballing here last week and had SUCH a good time!

I haven't practice at this place for over a year; however, back in 2008 and 2007 this place was pretty awesome. It's better known for it's outdoor paintball, but the speed ball setups in the back are awesome for practice as-well.

Pros:
-great fields
-friendly staff
-private groups available
-private rooms/lockers available
-able to bring in outside food
-the refs let me hang out with them while I take pictures! (best part)
Cons:
-you have to buy the paint there and yes, they rip you off
-from what I've been told, the rental guns suck
-some fields stink
-time in between games can lag
This is a really great place to come play some paintball!
I have been here two times for airsoft and both times have been a blast. When i first walked into here it feels likes you are walking into an amusement park. The airsofters have their room to gear up in, which is pretty cool because i have heard in the past people have had problems with the lockers over there. We went on a holiday so, the admission was $15 which i feel is well worth the money.
The courses itself for airsoft was super fun, the best part about it is that we were changing courses everyone, and it wasn't just one course the whole time. My personal fav course was mad max which had a fort thing which i thought was pretty cool.
The bad thing about it, was that we had to share the courses with the paintballers, which means your gear will get paint on them, and someones you might get shot by a paintball. And another thing, there is a douche bag team that goes there reguarly, and thing act as if they own the place. We had a bad run in with them.
In conclusion, HSP is highly recommend by me to airsoft.

Let me preface this by saying that I've been playing since 1995 and I've worked as a ref at a few fields in the LA area.
This is my experience as a walk-on player.
HSP is easily one of the worst fields I've ever played at. Especially at night.
First and foremost is safety.
Having worked as a ref, this is my primary concern when I go to a field. You'll regularly see guns without barrel plug/socks in the staging area as well as hearing people dry firing. Rarely do I see the staff do anything about it. This in incredibly dangerous as I notice that this park attracts a lot of new players. Also, the games seem to usually be reffed by only two refs at a time. On a open field with clear lines of sight, this will be okay, but there are a lot of spots the refs can't see, especially at night. Dangerous.
Second, the staff.
I have no problem with young refs. Some of the best refs I've met are young, but the refs I've seen at HSP have been unmotivated to say the leas, in my experiencet. They rarely check people, I see players get routinely overshot and players play on with visible hits. The one time I've seen a ref be proactive was stop a game when he was shot too many times. Bad reffing. He should know that taking hits is part of his job and further, should know better to be in the direct line of fire unless it was a critical spot to be in to ref the game.
Third, value.
This place is usually FPO (field paint only) and they charge premium prices for very poor quality paint. I know they can charge whatever they want and they have bills to pay, but there are much better places to play for less money.
Also, there tends to be a lot of downtime between games and they rarely run games back to back. My experience has been about one game an hour.
I've played at this field many times and have had a bad experience 7 out of 10 times. Why did I end up playing here so many times? Certain circumstances, like having a buddy in town for only a weekday or wanting to play with certain people. I played with the Hitmen a few times on Thursdays, but those were good times, because safety was enforced by experienced players and we reffed ourselves.
Granted, the fields are very unique, but it just doesn't make up for the drawbacks.
I've learned my lesson here many times and will not go here if there are other options or possibly for a private game.
Do yourselves a favor and check out some of the great fields in the Valley or Jungle Island.
Only in America would people actually pay money to be shot with pigmented fish oil pellets (think vitamin E capsules) on a sports field called Baghdad (small, grassy enclosure, old car with smashed windows and numerous oil drums). Politically correct? No. Fun? Yes.
You know how people say laser tagging is so fun because it's like being in a video game? Paintballing is the same but it appeals to a more masochistic crowd. If you get shot, your gun doesn't turn off for five seconds, your leg usually seizes up for a few minutes and you spew some juicy swears.
Some of you may be a little reluctant to approach this sport because of the pain. Suck it up, the adrenaline rush will keep your mind off your bruises.
When we first pulled into the Hollywood Sports parking lot, I was struck my how unkempt it looked. Our lucky party decided to play the day after a storm and our fields were soaked. I wore converse sneakers, a poor decision, you have absolutely no traction and water goes through them like a sieve.
If you plan to visit Hollywood Sports, keep the weather in mind. If you're not physically inclined, crouching behind damp, concrete walls in oil streaked puddles is not pleasant. You legs get tired, fast.
For most of us recreational paintballers (i.e. no gear or gun), the park provides guns and helmets for rental. Go in a large group, preferably with some trigger happy friends or exes so you can stir up competition.
The fields are pretty amazing in that people actually devote such a large tract of land for simulating battle for the common man. The helmets are pretty disturbing if you're germaphobic. Our escort was new and muttered too much, but they know what they're doing and follow the rules. Before you step out onto the field, you have to watch a video detailing the safety measures Hollywood Sports has gone through to avoid lawsuits (helmets, waivers, etc.). The usual rules like "Don't take off your helmet on the field" or "Have fun" and "Don't swear."
I wouldn't worry about the last one though. Those guys understand. If you're hit with one of those pellets at close range, most people will overlook your colorful vocabulary.

OK, I used to compete in tournament paintball for 4 years and used to be sponsored by this Paintball Park. I have played many paintball tournaments here as well as playing recreationally with friends and family.
The Good: It's the closest park to LA and it is well organized. Most paintball parks are far- Corona, Murrieta, Santa Clarita, etc. It is the best facility for people who don't paintball too often. It has a rental booth and retail store as well. They have several decent fields and they make safety #1. They make sure that newbies don't get beat up their first time out and try to make sure everyone has a good time.
The Bad: Wow, the required field paintballs is really costly. The low grade can cost about $50. Plus these paintball aren't that great, meaning they are inaccurate and they don't break. Thy won't allow you to bring outside paint like most paintball fields. Many times the paintball fields are poorly maintained which can lead to players injuring themselves which I have seen a couple times here.
Advice: bring lots of water especially during summer. Bring someone who has experience playing before. Ask other players for help if you need it. Bring a padlock and use the large mesh lockers by the side of the main fields so you don't have to pay for the rental lockers.
The owners of this field also own the world famous SC Village in Corona and Giant Paintball in Santa Ana and Victorville.
Paintballing is just something I don't understand, but I went with some co-workers and friends for a birthday party. It was pretty scary to see all these little kids with their hardcore paintball gear, but hey that was part of the fun for me. After signing my waiver (anything where you have to sign away your life is always fun...unless you die), I was ready to go. Oh wait, we have to sit around the staging area for an hour or so. I thought I was at Camp Pendleton. These people were scary, and here I was with my Diesel jeans and Harvard t-shirt.
Finally our group host queues us up, we put our gross rental masks on, and head on in. We pass all the little violent children as they stand, mouths agape. Yes, the benefits of going in a group and having a good host is that you get to skip the lines.
So anyway, they have different themed areas. Our first stop was the UN war zone! Fun! It was like being in Iraq. Seriously. Keep in mind, I've never held a gun before, I had no idea what was going on. Needless to say, I was one of the last to go, with a shot to the back at point blank range (STUPID Brandon!). I've never had so much fun in my life!
This is a great way to work out a lot of aggression and anger issues. Especially with co-workers. I was like, oh what's up? You don't like my Excel pivot tables? Eat this you sonofabitch!
Minus one star because during our last game, I was out of paint, and didn't want to play, but everyone was like, oh Brandon play play, you are so good. Well a co-worker shot me in the right testicle. Yeah, that's right. I got shot in the nut! It was very uncomfortable. Ironically, I have a bloody eye today b/c a co-worker poked me in the eye on Saturday night while gesticulating wildly and throwing his index finger all over the place. I work at a very dangerous company.

I went to this place thinking I could visit cool movie sets. Then all of a sudden when I was on one of the movie sets people started shooting me with paintballs. I was scared out of my mind and I shit myself and I don't think I had the swine flu. Do not go here, the people are mean and it's false advertisement!
I totally forgot about this place or else I would have written this review ages ago. I've been to this place twice. That's a couple times too many. It's a great idea for a sports park with basketball courts, beach volleyball and whatever else they have here. I've only been to the paintball portion of this place.
So here's my experience. First, you have to pay entry to the park, even if it is a private event and they seem to can't find you on the guest list. (what a sham to have to be on a guest list) It's almost like getting into Six Flags or Disneyland. Then, we get to the paintball portion and you have to pay entry to play on their fields. Only 2 fields when I came here. Boring as hell. We have friends in various places and so happens when we were invited to this event by a close friend and manager of I&I Sports. So we have our supplies provided. Including our paintball supplies. This is where they told us that we are required to purchase and play with their paint only. A red paintball with stars on them. Doesn't matter if we have already brought ours or have similar ones with stars. So each case at the time was $60, I heard it's about the same still. I get mine for $25 a case. I'm just surprised they didn't say, you have to wear our camaflouge and use our guns at a rental price.
So it's one thing to have to pay all that money, how we get douche-bags for referees. What gives? I've already told my friends and anyone who would invite me to this to not invite me to this place. Spectators also are required to pay entry to the park. What a rip off.

hollywood sports park is a fairly large sports complex for skateboarding/bmx, basketball, rock climbing, and paintball.
the paintball fields feature four fields for scenario play and several supp air/speed ball fields. the scenario fields are freakin sweet, using old sets from movies like the mummy and starship troopers.
what keeps hsp from receiving 4 or more stars from me is the high price of admission and paint (field paint only except thursdays), the long waits between games, the often overwhelmed staff, and the prima donna attitudes of spoiled children.
but when the games are good, they're really good. a lot of professional players practice and play here and the fields (when not too crowded) are among the best i've ever played at.

It's great to have a decent paintball place somewhere closer to civilization. I have only gone for paintballing, so any opinions i have are in that context. The place has lots to offer, but paintball is tops here. The staging area is decent, but i think it could use some more lockers where gear could be stored during the game. The sinks and faucets are a great plus, there is nothing like paper towels and running water to rinse you mask with. The restrooms and grounds are generally well kept and cleaned, unlike the former Tombstone and Splat Factory. I'm surprised many facilities don't concentrate on restroom quality, it is very important if you are gonna be there for a sizeable amount of time. They are also open all week, which is a bonus because weekends are not the only days some people have off.
The prices for paintball admission are about average to good and the price for the mandatory house paint is very decent the last time i went. However, the quality tends to vary from box to box, so it's a gamble between a good box and one that has balls full of dimples.
The reffing is generally good overall, but often they seem understaffed, so cheating is common. The fields are very well done and offer a lot of variety considering the space restrictions.
Rentals and service prices are comperable to most paintball fields, in other words, pricey. I would say that this ranks among the better fields in so cal, despite it's few shortcomings.

Ok, so I've only been paintballing 3 times my entire life. So, by no way am I an authority on the sport, but playing paintball at Hollywood Sports is definitely fun.
A co-worker of mine has been setting up large groups to play at this massive entertainment park in Bellflower, CA. (Bellflower? Yes, Bellflower. Nowhere near Holywood. More like 25 miles south of Hollywood. Why is it called 'Hollywood Sports Park'? The world may never know.) The layout of the park is, dare I say, unbelievable. 30 acres of joy. And not just for paintball. The park has a rock climbing wall, video arcade, beach vollyball, futsall, a bmx track and an off-road remote controll car track. If I lived closer and 20 years younger, it might just be one of those places that I would frequent.
The main paintball fields take up a good chunk of the acreage. The fields are 'themed' after Hollywood movies-- Starship Troopers, Mad Max, Tomb Raider and another movie that isn't coming to mind. There is also a few speedball areas and a new field called 'Bahgdad'. All the fields are loaded with bunkers and berms and some have tunnels and mazes. Overall, the paintball experience has been fun.
Food, on the other hand... lets just say they need to do a hell of a lot better for me to eat there again. Luckily, there are plenty of fast food joints close by for a messy, smelly paintballer to scarf down some food.
Oh, KCRW card- no.
