2 reviews for Hollywood Billiards
ok... I was there on a Thursday night. This place was SO DEAD - they have more people working there than customers hanging around. The place was big, music was freaking loud but no one is there... internet bar, about 15-10 pool tables? 2 foozball table, 2 of those trick-shot table (for 3 or 4-ball game), a stage for live music. the good thing is that it's very clean here, i didn't smell any smoke.
The pool rate was a rip off compare to places like Skip & Jan's or other bars... They charge $4 per hour PER PERSON! Weekend night is $5 per hour per person - that get expensive if you have people sharing game/table. other places charge by table/per hour. No wonder this place is so dead.
Hollywood Billiards is a large, clean, uncrowded pool hall in Chandler with great tables, an arcade, air hockey, and plenty of TVs playing sports.
However:
MINUS 6 (yes, 6) STARS for having the dance remix of "My Heart Will Go On" on their jukebox and thinking their patrons actually want to hear it, especially when they've got a clutch shot to make to even out the series, because first) it's 2007 and second) WTF with Celine Dion in a pool hall, no matter what year it is?
PLUS 1 STAR for having free wireless internet access, even though I have no idea why anyone would bring their laptop when they should be playing pool.
PLUS 1 STAR for its concession stand being fully-stocked with Ramen noodles. Just because.
PLUS 1 STAR for its location - a shopping center which also houses a high school (no joke), a Pure Fitness gym, a dance studio, a law office, a jiu jitsu studio, a Mexican church, and a Filipino import store. For Arizona, I'd say that combo is pretty damn awesome.
and
PLUS 1 STAR for being a big smoke free space with well-maintained equipment, which by itself should have enabled Hollywood Billiards to achieve 5 star status.
But Celine Dion was the iceberg, Hollywood Billiards was the ship, and I was a hapless passenger.
Man overboard.
5 - 6 + 4 = 3 stars.
