The exterior of this particular Marriott is painful in a way only 1970's muted pastel palettes can hurt. The only thing that hurts more than the exterior is the unforgiving beds.
But aside from the questionable mattress selection, the rooms are clean, comfortable, and possessed of all you need. We've stayed here in the past without any problems. Unfortunately, we couldn't get past the bed on this most recent visit and we checked out days earlier than anticipated.

every....single....time.... I go to this place, some BS happens and I swear to myself I am never coming back. Today was the breaker. I ordered the blackened Mahi sammich, after about a 1/2 hour it came out... finally. NOT blackened and ICE cold fish. YUK. When our server came over, I asked if I could send it back, he said "yes, but it will take a while." Seriously? It ended up coming out pretty quick, but they caked on SO much seasoning that i coulnt even taste the fish AND they put it all over the fries so I basically had just blackening seasoning for lunch.
We also asked for bread. Not and unreasonable request seeing how every other table had it. (not to mention, I had to GET UP and ask for it). about another 15 min pass, and finally, after asking again, we finally got it.
Our server was NO where to be seen because he was soooo weeded and god forbid another server help him out instead of just hanging out at the hostess stand.
We were finally brought our check and sat there (with dirty dishes) for again,.. another 15 min. and AGAIN, I had to get up out of my chair and ask a manager to run our cards. And again, this took about another 10 min. Seriously?! To run a credit card?!
Im never going back. This time I mean it.

I totally disagree with the previous review! This is one of (if not my total) favorite places for… Read more »
A friend and I went here one Sunday for what my friend thought was a brunch buffet. Turns out it was breakfast only.
Overall the outside is really nice with a great view of the boardwalk and beach. As for the menu, it was ok. Nothing too spectacular. Pretty standard when it comes to a breakfast buffet. The servers working the buffet were friendly and so was our waitress.
I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here again unless maybe to have some drinks with out of town friends and just relax by the beach.

Mixed feelings...
The positives:
--Friendly staff
--Lively outside bar
--Access to beach and boardwalk area (only a few steps)
--Breakfast buffet (also included with our AAA rate)
--Rooms are comfy and attractive
The not-so-good:
--Older, not so attractive part of town
--Parking fee ($20/day)
--Patio is tiny, although you do have a partial ocean view
--Can't access the hotel from the parking garage; must go through the lobby.
The bad:
--Unattractive hotel exterior; does not look like a Marriott because it was previously a Howard Johnson hotel. Ditch the aqua paint, Marriott!
--Restrooms at the pool desperately need to be updated. The doors will not even close due to rust or something. When it was mentioned to the cabana boy, he suggested guests use the public restroom on the other side of the pool wall!

My good friend and her boyfriend and myself and my boyfriend decided to take a vacation in Florida. After a lot of searching for rates and looking for a nice place, we decided on this hotel.
The staff at the hotel is very very nice. Everyone always said "Hi" and greeted us every time we came in the door. We got a 2 double beds room. The bed is nice and fluffy. There was a flat screen TV, a very small outside patio that can most likely fit two people, a desk, and drawers to put your clothes in. The bathroom is nice and very clean. The door to the bathroom has a clear screen, so you can see through the door.
We got breakfast included with our rooms, but we had four people to our rooms and when we told the front desk, they offered free coupons for the breakfast buffet for all nights of our stay. The buffet was good. It had lots of fruits, bagels, toast, muffins, eggs, meats, cereals, and omelet station. They offered all kinds of juices and coffee in the morning. I even took a Starbucks coffee to go. I believe if you had to pay for the buffet it would be about $20? So it was nice that it was comp.
The outside pool is ok. There was a lot of kids there at the time we went, so that made it a little scary to swim in the pool, but we dipped in and out. They have midst that sprays around the edges of the pool area. There are nice pool side helps that come and give you a ice cold towel to cool you off from the heat. The waitress for the pool is very sweet and they offer a limited menu for food and beverages. The pina coladas were really good. I believe they were about $8.00. I had chips and salsa and my boyfriend had the burger. Our friends absolutely loved the cocktail shrimp and that will run you about $12 for 6 big shrimps.
The hotel is in Hollywood Beach, FL which is in between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. It is on the beach. The beach and hotel is connected by the boardwalk, where a lot of people walk up and down and enjoy the beach. They have rental umbrellas, chairs, and cabanas right on the beach. I believe 4 chairs with chair pads and 1 umbrella cost us about 40 dollars.
If you're looking to be within distance of water sports and shopping etc. This isn't the place to you. We had a rented car (cost for parking overnight at the hotel is about $15/day) so we drove everywhere. I believe the closest jet skiing/water sports place was at least 15 minutes away. We went to one in Ft. Lauderdale side. For intense shopping, Las Olas is about a 10 minute drive away and that area will have all your shopping and good food.

I can only give this hotel two stars because of the fact that they do not own the beach, not even a small part. The part of Hollywood beach where this hotel is located is public, which creates problems for those of us who like to sit in beach chairs under an umbrella. They do have a service that you can rent from, but they charge $7/chair and $22/umbrella, which is quite expensive as they pick up extremely early- by 5:00pm at the latest! There is no break on the price if you go out to the beach late (3:30pm) or so- the people who rent the chairs and umbrellas still want to charge full price, as their contract is with the city and not the hotel. Other Marriott hotels on the beach (Ft. Lauderdale & Marco Island, for example) do own at least a small part of the beach, which makes it easier to get set up. The hotel itself is small, but the rooms are cozy and the beds are comfortable. The food and drinks are good too.
Nice restaurant outside, each table has an umbrella and you can watch the people and the ocean. Good salads, soups and burgers. Service is sometimes good, sometimes pretty slow.
this sealed the deal for me as far as my view on marriott. the valet and front desk staff were nice. the sales department broke the contract and gave away one of the rooms. the kids working in the bar are nice but slooooow. its right on the beach, but it's in hollywood florida, so really nothing that great. the beds were not marriott beds, SO uncomfortable. the sheets were dirty, no hairdryer. going back to that area in two weeks, will be staying at the st. regis.
