We spent our anniversary weekend renting the Sea Star Cottage on Tomales Bay. Not at Tomales Bay, not near Tomales Bay, but on Tomales Bay. On a pier, over the water!
Two nights cost us $583, paid in advance. This bought us full rights to this cozy house north of Inverness.
My first impression was that it needed maintenance, but I soon figured out I was looking at the dock, and it was in the process of being maintained. Inside, the house was warm and clean. A wood-fired stove, a down comforter, and windows that opened onto the bay, helped us regulate the temperature. The views were fascinating, and on Saturday we watched a boat race from the yacht club nearby. Watching the tide had a slow, mesmerizing effect that helped us forget the City that seemed so far away. The lack of phone cells, internet, or television helped us get closer to nature.
The bathroom was tiny, and the hot tub was unattractive, but we quickly realized we were renting the location, not the amenities. We explored the Point Reyes National Seashore and the nearby towns, and fully enjoyed the feeling of being in the wilderness only minutes from San Francisco.

We stayed at the Sea Star Cottage and it was absolutely relaxing and romantic. The rustic cottage is situated on a dock 100ft out on the water. When you first walk in, all you see are beautiful large wall to wall windows looking out to Tomales Bay. When we stayed here, they served breakfast, but I guess they've stopped doing that now. The place is literally quiet at night and the only thing you hear is yourself breathing. The cottage is 20 minutes drive to Point Reyes Lighthouse and three state beaches. If you're looking to get away from the rushed big city life, Sea Star Cottage has Relaxation written all over it.
