Okay, I found out that not all of the rooms have been renovated. I was told that only the non-smoking rooms had been renovated...so, make sure you ask for one of those if you want a cleaner room.
I had room 234 and it was nice and had two exits. The other exit was to the courtyard and pool area.

I was very hesitant to stay here. If it was my choice, would stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, but… Read more »
Uh, when is a hotel not a hotel? When does a hotel stops being a hotel? Or rather, what makes one a hotel?
At first glance, Holiday Inn Select looks like...wow! The room was just beautiful! You could spend the day in there! That is, if you can handle the frosty air conditioner.
Now, oftentimes, when people say they got an Olympic-sized pool, it's mostly lip service. Not here! It is actually Olympic-sized!
But then, the hotel's true colors came out. We were up on the top floor (5th floor), so there are skylights. However, my partner went down a floor to get some ice. The halls are dark. There are no hallway lights. Something like that reminds me of Halloween II, when Michael Myers is trying to kill his sister at the hospital. Freaky!
We had to use our towels from the bathroom to go swimming. After that, we asked the front desk to bring up some more. They said they would within a few minutes. Well, we didn't get the towels until 3 hours later.
The bathroom. Ugh! When you get in the shower and close the curtain, it's dark in there! There is no light in the shower. Worse...they have a fog-free mirror in the shower. How is a poor guy supposed to shave without a light? Whoever designed this hotel should've been fired!
The bed...too soft! My partner and I tossed and turned all night. Now, some of you might like a soft bed. But make mine firm, please!
The hotel itself is just mediocre. The location is conveniently situated near the Boardwalk and other places. Plus, I did love the swimming pool.
You would expect this to be a very fine hotel since it is a Holiday Inn "Select". You would be wrong. It should be a better place than it is. The location is wonderful, right on the water and there are nice views from most rooms. It also has a good fitness center and a very large (and usually crowded) pool. There is also a nice tiki bar over toward the docks.
The biggest issue I have with this placed is the hotel staff (the bar staff is fine). They seem to hire kids to run the place so the service is poor and unprofessional. Although the rooms run from OK to pretty nice (unless you get stuck in one of the meeting rooms with a Murphy bed) the public areas are dark and damp. The complementary breakfast consists of a cart by the front desk with coffee, juice, yoghurt, and some ho-hum sweet rolls. Be sure to get there early because it is all picked up promptly.
If you are a business traveler, bring your own internet. The Wayport Hotel service is painfully slow. You can waste hours.
Although it is probably the nicest hotel in the area, I don't think it would be nearly as popular if there was some equivalent tier competition.
