11 reviews for Holiday Inn
This place actually recently got changed to "Reno Plaza Hotel" even though you can still see the Holiday Inns sign.
It was cheap for New Years on a last minute deal, but I would definitely never stay here again. It was pretty much the kind of dump that you would expect for paying what you did and the showers are cold and not that clean, the room is dark and not very well lit. The TV is blurry and hardly gets a good signal despite a decent selection of channels.
The hotel reeks of smoke despite non-smoking zones and floors and they don't even know what it is that they're talking about when you ask them a question ... any question. Not recommended.

did not like it at all. It was cheap though.
Shower head was rusty, ceiling had water marks(not just in the bathroom), smelled of smoke, room didn't have a TV remote, TV reception was all blurry, room was kinda dirty looking, shower went from burning hot to ice cold on its own, etc etc
the list keeps going. btw, as lorrie said, its the reno plaza hotel and casino now, but u can still see the holiday inn signs...also they have a ramada banner in the main entry too.

Not bad. We were in Reno for the 30th anniversary on the bench for the judge my b.f. clerked for, and we pricelined this for some low, low price. (He pricelined this. There's some new rebranded hotel called the Grand Sierra with high thread-count sheets, and that's what I would have picked.) Free, but slow, wi fi, and the rooms were fine. Quite clean, not badly decorated, really, for a H.I.
The casino was a bit depressing, though, as is the Reno casino scene (to the extent that we saw it). There's that air of desperation. On the plus side, Reno has some great elements, not the least of which is its location. The land itself is gorgeous: high desert, Truckee only spitting distance away, some of the best recreation around. And there are plenty of decent places to eat/drink outside of the casino realm, not that we made it to them this round. (PJ's is supposed to be awesome for breakfast, but we arrived 20 minutes after they stopped serving. Aargh. The menu sounded great.)

Avoid this place like the plague. Do a search on google maps and you'll notice how close it is to the train tracks. Yeah, it's nice for kids to look at, but when the horn blows every 2-hours, you'll be burning the midnight oil with it. And no, even ear plugs don't work.
I reserved a non-smoking and got a smoking room. After much heated discussion, they transferred me to a non-smoking. But no extra accommodations for the inconvenience.
The rooms are dark and not well lit. Even the nonsmoking rooms wreak of smoke. The room decor are old.
The casino hall is not inviting.
2 advantages of this place! Ample parking space from lack of customers. And nice and cheap. But for an extra $20 per night, it's money well spent to go somewhere else to get a good nights sleep.
i'd give it more stars but i'll explain why i can't.
The staff is nice and polite at the holiday inn, i like the rooms, which are quaint and decent. It has a bar and a restaurant and a casino attached to it.
My negatives are:
1) The Casino attracts the non-socialite crowd, but more of the need the gambling fix crowd. One good thing (sorta), theres alot of patrol cars roaming the parking lot in the middle of the night. Is it really a good thing?
2) The high speed internet was slower than 56k. It was my first time seeing a warning message from http://gmail.com saying how i seem to be on a slow connection and can opt for a basic lo-bandwidth gmail menu.
3) Whats up with the train switching yard a few blocks away? Being awaken by their very annoying multiple train whistles. 1st night it was at 1:15am, and 4:15am, and 2nd night at 4am and at 7am.
The 7 am horn blow i didn't mind, i was going to wake up around that time anyway but come on!
Well if you do the deal of a lifetime but not knowning where you'd stay button from http://hotwire.com, i think this is their default spot.

Why stay here when they have all of those wonderful hotel/casinos in downtown Reno?
At first glance, it doesn't seem like what you want to do. But, if you travel with pets as I often do, then this is one of the only places you can stay.
On second glance, you notice that this is where all of the locals play. The casino isn't large and it isn't fancy. But, if you like to play Blackjack with a single deck and start with a low minimum bet, this is probably the only place where you can do that.
I've been coming here once a year for many years and what impresses me the most is that the dealers and the pit bosses recognize and remember me and my Mom every single time. These are nice people who have worked here a long time. I appreciate their kind attention to really good service.
The rooms are nothing special. In fact, they are in need of some upgrading. There is not a good restaurant to be had here; definitely eat elsewhere. But, it's close enough to the rest of the Reno scene so you can still enjoy all that is Reno, stay here with your cat or dog, play $3 Blackjack if that's what you like, and catch up on old times with your pit boss "friends." Yes, I'll be back.

Spent 5/6 & 5/7 here while judging a horseshow at Reno Livestock & Convention Faciltiy. This hotel is now actually the Reno Ramada Inn and to me ,represents a better face with the new ownership. Shuttle arrived at airport for pickup promptly/driver was very polite. Check-in was easy. Was pre-occupied due to bad Yelp reviews. Found lobby neat and clean. There was no stink of stale cigarettes in hall and none in the room. Bathroom had signs of being recently redone. Enough towels, soap, shampoo, etc., to show recent upgrade. Bed and bedding felt & smelled new. They need to re-place cathode ray TV. We ate that evening at the restaurant and service people need to sharpen up. Food was less than average. They are obviously trying and I would come here without hesitation again. This is a reasonable hotel to be considered a bargain.
Dumpy, crappy, very bad area but I've stayed here multiple times. The rooms are good and clean. In the casino slots I made enough to keep drinking (didn't actually make enough to win but just enough to keep playing for free drinks).
The waitress said I couldn't order a Long Island Iced Tea 'because of the area the hotel was in'. WTF? So she brought me a shot of tequila and a Corona. Go figure.

Just a quick 10 block complimentary shuttle ride from all the downtown casinos, the Holiday Inn in Reno is a nice less expensive alternative. The rooms were nice and clean. The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms are very nice. Located just off of I-80, an exit after downtown, its convenient, and located in a relatively safe area. If you really can't wait to gamble, there is a quiet little casino attached to the hotel. I've seen Holiday Inn hotels that vary some in quality. This was a good one. 4 stars!

Pretty dumpy but it was oh-so cheap. However, the crowd in the downstairs casinos is really sketch. I was seriously worried for my safety.
A couple minutes away from the main drag in downtown Reno, the Holiday Inn is a no-frills place to stay. Don't let the on-property "casino" and restaurant stand in your way of eating and gambling.
