4 reviews for Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites
I attended a conference at this hotel and was pleasantly surprised, but didn't stay as an overnight guest. The receptionist told me this has been a Holiday Inn since 1987 and before that it was a Best Western. Not sure why Hotel Monaco was even mentioned that's almost 10 blocks away.
Plenty of street parking available, but there's also an underground garage for guests. Parking was free for conference attendees but when I parked, it looked as though it's always free since there was no tickets or gates or anything. I double checked with the front desk because I didn't want to risk getting towed...already happened twice to me this summer and it ain't no fun. There's a grocery store right across the street and a small park one block away. A couple more blocks down is the waterfront.
Anyway its a nice alternative to the typical conferences located in Crystal City. A little further down the road, but still pretty nice.
ok if you don't mind a "by the hour" look of the hotel...staff was banal, service was so-so and nope, when I come to Alexandria this year, I am NOT staying here, even though all my meetings are scheduled for this locale! I was just too scared...by the interior of my room!
YIKES!
Good points: It's situated in a good place between Old Town and D.C. The rooms are large, and there is decent parking ($15 self-parking in their garage). The housekeeping staff is very nice.
The not-so-good points: It's in dire need of renovation. I booked through http://priceline.com, and I'm glad I didn't pay the hotel's normal full rate. Everything looks pretty worn. The registration staff were nice, but not entirely professional. Lots of noise from National Airport.
This hotel is OK, but not the best. Proximity to Old Town Alexandria and Washington DC is pretty good. You can walk to the main area of Old Town (King Street) in about 10 minutes. You can walk to the Potomac in about 5 minutes and walk along the river down to King Street in another 10 minutes - the river walk is nice - a park setting with running/walking paths, grassy areas, etc. The hotel shuttle will take you into Old Town as well as having an every 30 minute service to Reagan National Airport. This is handy for air travel as well as picking up the Metro to all local DC points from the airport Metro station. The hotel itself is fine, but not especially service oriented. A plus, in my view, is that room service and food in general, is reasonably priced. Room service is quick - 15-20 minutes, which is nice, but food quality is mediocre, over all. If you are hosting a meeting, the banquet captain, Mel, is awesome - very helpful.
There is a grocery store across the street and a Kinko's 3 blocks away, both of which I found helpful as well.
Someone not as picky as I am might give this a better rating. I would say a solid OK choice, but you won't be blown away by service, food or location overall.
