5 reviews for Holiday Inn Express
Going back to where I grew up is always a kind of an other-worldly experience. I usually cannot resist the temptation to drive around to places where I lived, hung out, and played. It's strange to turn a corner, spot a house, and think "I partied there once ... I think." Yeah ... Pasadena.
I've stayed at this Holiday Inn Express three times in the past nine months, when in SoCal to visit mom.
The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is fine -- far enough out on Colorado that you aren't kept up all night by partyers and traffic noise. The rooms I've had are cramped, probably because they always give me two doubles instead of one king, but the beds themselves are firm and comfortable.
If you're looking to walk to Old Town Pasadena, this isn't the place. If you want a good night's sleep, it is.
Our family of four needed a place to sleep for the night on our way home from Phoenix. This place is fine for one night. The location is convenient. The place is clean. The price is very good. The free breakfast is okay. The staff is friendly. The room we had was cramped. The pool was out of order - big bummer for the 4-yr-old in the family.

Located in a lousy part of town, the hotel is in a complex of businesses which includes a fabulous Thai restaurant (Pad THai) but also includes an all-night massage parlor and an AA meeting place. The rooms are tiny. I stayed in the master suite. The refrigerator was broke and the TV did not get the CBS and NBC stations. The breakfast was horrible! Greasy bacon. The staff was very sympathetic but did not offer to reduce the room fare. Sometimes you don't get what you pay for. Next time I will pay up for a location downtown or stay at the Residence Inn by Marriott in the next town (Glendale or Arcadia). But not here.
I had to go down to Pasadena for a funeral and this was where I ended up. My room was clean, but I couldn't turn the AC off. The front desk was super friendly and helpful. It has a decent location right off the freeway and there is a massive Target down the street if you need anything. Parking was not a problem and there were some places to eat within walking distance.
We've visited this hotel twice in the past year. The hotel and its rooms are clean and comfortable -- and moderately priced. The standard rooms and bathrooms are a bit small. The rooms are very quiet. Although the address is Colorado Blvd the hotel is a several miles from Old Town Pasadena. This is the neighborhood of car dealers, strip malls and freeways. If you need snacks or a quick bite, Whole Foods is 3 blocks away.
