Clean, comfortable, somewhat affordable (especially with parents AARP discount). 2 Beds at around $130 (I think).

After staying at the Cathedral Hill in San Francisco (Discounted room rates for CPMC patients and family) it was definately nice to have a newer hotel and only 20-30 miles from San Fran... will probably switch up staying at $100 per night Cathedral (outdated) Hill and spend the extra time and money on a clean and friendly Holiday Inn.

Loved the white comforter (to me means they actually wash the comforters, hopefully with bleach), two pillows per person: one labeled "soft" and the other "firm" (so neat). clean kitchette area with CLEAN fridge and CLEAN microwave. Bathroom was nice and clean too (at least to the naked eye). 24 hour fruit juice and coffee bar (loved) as well as a "continental" breakfast with pretty good sausage... next to a shell station for late night beers and snacks. Arrived at dark but did notice next to a beach parking lot (free i believe) as well as had parking for our big diesel truck (all of CA garages are not tall enough for us). Oh and internet for free and good selection of TV channels.

Downfall is no pets... eventually might have a dog and that would nice to be able to bring him especially because of the close proximity to the beach.

I agree it is in a nice location where you can walk to the beach, and a few decent restaurants.. but here's my review of the one time I stayed.

Nice room crappy customer service"

This is what I sent to Holiday Inn Express regarding my stay:

Upon our arrival in our room we were very pleased with it, it was wonderful. The only thing we were truly disappointed with regarding the room was that the web page stated the room had a 2 person Jacuzzi tub and in all honesty it was a comfortable 1 person tub or at best 1 and a half person tub. Other than that it was a positively beautiful room.

Unfortunately our stay was ruined by the party upstairs, they were very loud. There was constant running and falling/jumping that was very loud, disturbing, and severely jarring. This was not footsteps, or normal movement about the suite, but the sound of a child or two jumping up and down on the floor (I saw them upon departure, they were of the age to be able to get up to a good run, but then fall down). We were very distressed since the noise was so "above normal tolerance levels" that the bathroom door was rattling in its frame. When I called the desk to request assistance, I was asked to tolerate it until it kept me awake. I tried to make it very clear that this was an unusual amount of noise but the desk clerk seemed totally unsympathetic and uninterested, it was so severe I pondered calling the Police, but considering it was private property I didn't think they would do much. When I tried to discuss the issue with the staff the following morning, my comments were completely ignored it was like I had not said anything the only reply I got was "would you like to put this on your credit card". At no time was there an offer to move to a different room or anything else to make our stay more comfortable. The Hotel was pretty empty I'm sure they had rooms they could have moved us to.

We got a suite with the intent of having a romantic and quiet stay, and unfortunately the stay was noisy, stressful, and the staff was unwilling to assist in any way. I prefer Holiday Inn Express because of its wonderful rooms and excellent staff, this Holiday Inn fell short. If I find myself in Pacifica again I will be trying the Best Western across the street after the treatment I received at this Holiday Inn Express.

Liked -- The room was spacious and attractive
Disliked -- The customer service was nonexistent

Stayed there last weekend.  LOVED it.  We had a king size ocean view suite with a jacuzzi (for our post-surfing, sore muscle needs) and it was great.  The room was very clean, the staff was excellent, the cinnamon rolls they serve at breakfast are OUTSTANDING!!  I have no complaints.

this is my all time favorite place to get away from it all when i travel to the bay area.  the hotel is located on the ocean, with a couple of nice restaurants that you can walk to. the ocean can be heard from most of the rooms when you open the window.  it is out of the way, but so easy to get to--and get back to the bay when you are forced to leave and go to work.  this location does sell out quite often, but the people there are fantastic, and the cinnamon rolls at the breakfast bar are the best.

if you are looking for a lot of touristy things close by (fisherman's wharf, cable car, etc.) forget this place.  but if you want something that is close by physically, but miles away emotionally, this is the place to go.

My husband and I have stayed here twice, most recently this past weekend (7/19 - 7/21/08.)  The FULL ocean view rooms are the way to go (not the Cove View.)  Try to get a 2nd floor room (although the 1st floor rooms have a good view too - we've stayed in both.)  The floors are a little misleading - the lobby and parking garage are really on the 1st floor, so what is called the "1st floor" is actually the 2nd story and the "2nd floor" is the 3rd story.  Our room was a mini-suite with a mini refrigerator, microwave, and electric fireplace.  Total for 2 nights was close to $400.  That seemed rather worth it for the opportunity to look at the ocean from the comfort of our room and hear it roar (loudly!) all night, but I'm not sure that was a deal, especially since this is peak season.  The hotel also has non-ocean view rooms that should be less expensive.  The hotel is updated nicely - not fancy but a definite attempt at being chic. Actually impressive for a Holiday Inn Express!    The manager is VERY nice and the hotel does serve breakfast (although we didn't try it.)   A 3 minute walk from the hotel puts your feet in the surf and next door to the hotel there are a few little shops and restaurants.   There isn't a whole lot to do nearby, but you can drive 20 minutes south to Half Moon Bay and enjoy their Main Street.  Restaurant ideas:  Viva Italiano in Pacifica (great pizza and Italian entrees), Chez Shea in Half Moon Bay (terrific sandwiches - sit on their back patio) and Cafe Gibraltar in El Granada  - absolutely amazing, call ahead to try to get a cushion booth.  SIDE NOTE:  If you book a full ocean view room through the 800 Reservation number, call the hotel the next day to make sure you got the correct room.  In our case, the reservation agent booked a Cove view room which basically looks at the side of a hill and a sliver of the ocean.
