Guess I was one of the lucky ones based on the bad reviews I've seen.

I had to make a sudden trip to NYC, a 23-hour roundtrip drive from Boston, and this place fit right into my plans and budget. It's right in the middle of everything, which is a huge PLUS for those that don't want to sit in a room all day and just want to see as much of Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Broadway, etc in the shortest amount of time.

Room is small (typical for NYC IMHO), but bed was VERY comfy, bathroom was surprisingly ample (better than those in the Roosevelt) and CLEAN. The hotel had a sorta-mini cafeteria set-up in the lobby, so there's breakfast and seating for hotel guests on the get-go.

The negatives:

1) I booked 2 double beds (since it was me, mom, and my son), but got 1 kingsize instead. I was willing to overlook it this time since it was family, and it was REAL comfy. My advice, make sure AT CHECK-IN that the room has the number of beds that you requested.

2) Front desk was nice, but not the best trained. If I didn't have my confirmation number on me, there's a good chance they would never have found my reservation. Something about using the national reservation system and the local staff. It just doesn't sync. My advice is to CALL AHEAD and make sure your booking is set up properly, especially with the ability to check-in with the number of guests you have.

That said, the GOOD stuff:

1) Very friendly. The night girl was sweet, and the morning shift was incredibly attentive and friendly. I really liked the attitude.

2) This is New York. I EXPECT small rooms. That said, I was surprised at how comfy this small room was, even with the king sized bed, even for NY standards. Bathroom was unusually large for a NY hotel that isn't the Palace or Omni (and, as I stated above, bigger and nicer than the ones at the Roosevelt).

3) Great value. The hotel is clean, friendly, and considering its location, is a lot cheaper than what I was expecting.

If I'm on a budgeted short trip, I'll most likely stay here again.

I had a horrible experience at this hotel. I put in a reservation for four people in a standard room- I was under the impression that we would be getting two queen beds or a room that had one bed and could bring in a cot or two. Since the hotel accepted a reservation for four people I figured the room would be able to accommodate this.

When we arrived at around 11:30pm we found that the room only had one bed and no room for additional bedding. We went to the lobby and asked for a refund, since there was another hotel up the street that could sleep four people. The hotel refused to issue a refund even though they admitted the room could not sleep four people. All they could give us was an extra sheet and an extra pillow.

We were forced to sleep on the floor, that was so small it barely fit a person. The worst part was since I reserved and prepaid for two nights we had to spend both nights in the hotel even after we begged for a refund.

I fell completely mislead- I think if a hotel accepts a reservation for four people then they ought to give you a room that can actually sleep four people and if they don't have a room that is acceptable when you arrive they ought to give you a refund.

In addition to this issue the hotel was understaffed- there was never more then one person on duty at the front desk and always a line of people waiting. There was no manager on duty for the whole weekend- which is odd since the hotel was completely booked. You would think there should be someone in charge, not just one girl at a desk completely overwhelmed. The free breakfast was lousy too.

Overall a big old BOOOOOO for this place.

We had an exact same experience as Chris who has written a review in June. We also reserved this hotel for 4 people on 6/5/09, and arrived there only to find that the room was too small to serve all of us. Just like Chris said, the manager also agreed on the fact that the room was too small to hold everyone. However, saying that we notified him about this after check-in time, he refused to refund our bill - and only told us to contact priority club. When we finally contacted priority club, the reps told us to contact the branch manager - and as surely enough, he never responded back to any of our calls/ faxes.

so do not stay in this hotel!! We've been fighting really hard to get our money back, but has not succeeded yet. This is outrageous.

Small, teeny tiny hotel crammed right into a great location.

The rooms themselves are nothing to really write home about- but it seems to be a well loved place for international travelers. The beds are pretty comfy- and the price is AMAZING for the location.

The staff bends over backwards to make sure that you have everything you need. I greatly appreciate it. I have had the front desk staff loan me their personal umbrellas so that I could head to the Duane Reade and purchase one. They certainly go above and beyond.

They do have 2 computers WITH PRINTERS hooked up for guest use. THIS IS AWESOME. I swear I spend half of my time on the road trying to get things printed without going to Kinko's. I love this hotel for this feature alone!

I've never stayed at this hotel, so my review is strictly limited to the lobby.

I love writing in hotel lobbies with free wifi.  Not only do you get some free Internet action, but you also get to see people from all over coming and going.  If you get stuck on your novel or whatever, you can sit and people watch for a while.  The problem with lobbies is that they are often not set up for writing.  The tables are too low or the chairs uncomfortable or the outlets hidden behind furniture or whatever.

What's good about the lobby here is that it's also the continental breakfast room.  So the seating is nothing but tables and chairs behind a little partition where the free pastries and coffee and such are set.  The space is big enough for a fair sized writing group to take over and still allow guests to sit.  There are plenty of visible outlets.  The problem is that the lobby here is small - really it's the seating area and registration.  So if you come sit in that area, you ARE going to get noticed.  No clue how much the staff cares just yet.

I did confirm they have free wifi.  I've yet to test if you need a special code to access it.

Free wi-fi, a completely courteous staff, and a room big enough to do a cartwheel in.
Let me be the first to give them 5 stars.

I would have given this hotel 4 stars if the room (Superior King) had been bigger.  It is barely enough room for the two of us and two suitcases.  It is well appointed, comfortable and has free wireless internet.  It's just a bit cozier than I would have liked.

That's really the only bad part about the hotel.  The staff is friendly and it is located central to everything - two blocks one way is Times Square and the theaters, 1/2 block the other way is 5th avenue shopping.  We were even able to walk to Central Park and the Met (although we taxi'd back).

I would stay here again - but upgrade to one of the one bedroom suites.
