Upon driving in to the parking area you will see signs saying "not responsible for theft or damage to vehicle"... comforting. In your room you have the option of either hot or cold water showers, warm is not available. You are also treated to the fact that your door may rumble back and forth every time your neighbor closes their door.
This is a motel with lipstick on it.
I should have stayed at the Ritz and could have for just a little bit more.
Ok, so maybe it has everything to do with expectations and nothing to do with the hotel itself, but I was thoroughly impressed with this place. I'll lay it out for ya: I was aiming for the cheapest hotel I could find while, at the same time, not having to fear for my life; found the Holiday Inn Express on Hotwire for $159 and decided it met my requirements. We arrived and were immediately impressed by the friendly and helpful service we received at the front desk. We proceeded to our room and were blown away by how large and clean it was! Great layout, comfy bed, decent shower pressure, mini refrigerator, and huge vanity counter space and full length mirrors (key for getting ready for a night out on the town). Parking's included and the location's perfect (just a few blocks from Venice Beach and maybe a mile from Santa Monica). Even better, free breakfast that included everything from cereal and yogurt to eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy! Sweet! Anyways, I obviously didn't set the bar very high which may be why I was so impressed; it could also be that I'm from SF, so my perception of a hotel steal may be a bit skewed. Bottom line, I'd say it's ideal for someone simply looking for a place to clean up/ get ready and eventually crash.
Solid stay at a good price. Got a queen suite for the price of a regular queen room (not sure why). Close enough to everything. Brought our bikes. It was an easy bike up to Santa Monica and back. Beechwood http://www.yelp.com/bi... a stumble away is worth a visit.
Before you read this, know that I just got off graveyard shift and im very tired, so some things might not make sense ;) Upon arrival I liked the parking arrangements under the actual hotel, it felt pretty safe but there wasn't a whole lot of space avail, luckily it wasn't very busy during my stay. Im not sure if there was addtl. parking but I assume if you don't get a spot in the garage you have to park on the street. This hotel is in a decent location, maybe a 20 minute walk to the beach, 10 on bike and a few minutes driving. My family only drove, that just made it easier so we didn't have to walk our stuff down the street to the beach and back. The end of the street seemed to be a jam packed tourist-y Venice location which we didn't want so we drove 15minutes to Santa Monica Pier (the main reason for our trip) and also used the beach near the pier where there were less people and it was PERFECT. We were also close to the 3rd st. Promenade to do some shopping which was very very nice. As far as the hotel, the rooms were nice and clean, a little on the small side. I didn't spend much time in the room, but everything was working fine and all amenities were there. Nice attentive breakfast hostess, nice front desk. I requested a room away from the street and they gave me the furthest room on the far end opposite the street which I really appreciated. Hotel layout was really nice and open and very quiet. The priority club goodie basket was a super nice touch too! One downside is that the pool and spa were quite small but since it was only me, my sister and brother in there at 9:30pm we enjoyed it. It probably wouldn't fit more than 10 people comfortably. As far as cost, I don't know how much the standard room costs since I had an employee rate. I enjoyed my stay and would definitely go back anytime.
If you're looking to stay near the ocean and not spend a fortune, this is a great, safe choice. The hotel is less than a mile from the beach. You can walk or bike to Venice Beach and you're also close to Santa Monica. Our room (two beds) was very clean, and it was spacious compared to similar rooms at other hotels. The staff is very courteous. Included is your standard hotel breakfast and free parking! It's not fancy, but the room was very nice -- it seemed like it might have been renovated recently. I wouldn't call it a four-star hotel, but I give it four stars for the value.
