More like 3.5 stars but we're rounding up....

The price for this place is a little bit on the high side, however, the location was good, about 1 mile drive away from the Heavenly ski resorts, walking distance to the casinos, supermarkets, heavenly gondola, etc...

We have to admit, this place is quiet clean, roomy, and had great amenities. We reserved a 2 queen bedroom for our stay, which had a mini refrigerator, microwave, and coffee/tea maker. Breakfast was included in our stay and they had a pretty good selections, including an automatic pancake machine! crazy! Staff were friendly. Would recommend staying here again!  =)

    * The Best Pillows ever - soft and firm embellished onto the pillow cases.
    * Clean coffee mugs - a treat.
    * Wholesome breakfast - worth waking up in the morning!

My husband and I enjoyed our weekend getaway to South Lake Tahoe and our experience at Holiday Inn Express complimented and completed our trip. Jeff, who helped us with reservations was cordial and so good with his PR skills. The ladies who were at the breakfast counter were sweet.

Just 2 things that could have given this a 5 star rating:

    1. No water in the room.
    2. The sharp metallic leaf on the headboard poked my tall husband. Risky, and could be fatal with kids!

We stay at this hotel for 3 nights the first week of January 2012.
The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The staff is friendly and they show they care the hotel has an outdoor swimming pool and a Hot Tub and Sauna. In the morning, the hotel offers a complementary breakfast buffet with enough options to grab a bite and hit the road. Would recommend it and stay there again. Free WI-FI!

Great location in a walkable area. Very clean hotel room. Breakfast was good enough, with some hardboiled and scrambled eggs and yogurt. Parking is free. It had a real lodge-type feel to it. The bathroom was huge.

The only possible problem I had was that there were a lot of smokers near my room and the smell went into my room. Not the hotel's fault. Also, the beds were springy and not soft with a pillow top like I have experienced at other Holiday Inn Express hotels.

Check in was quick and easy. Wifi was quick and fast. I used points but if I had paid for it, it would have been $100++. That seems a bit pricey given that there are many other hotel options on this street.

This hotel was surprisingly nice. I've never stayed at holiday inn express but if they're all like this one I most definitely would again. For this time of year in Tahoe the price was right. Cheaper than the casino hotels but still very close to everything. Within walking distance to food, shopping and casinos.

The room was clean and the beds were cozy with lots of pillows. The pillows even come with little descriptions on them that stated if they were soft or firm (2 of each). The bathroom was huge with 2 sinks and that was in a standard room with 2 double beds. The TV is old (not flat screen) but we weren't there for the TV!

Now for the best part... the continental breakfast. Usually you get muffins and bagels but this breakfast offered much more. Biscuits and gravy, omelettes, ham, pancakes, plus all the usuals. I mean, it's still hotel food so it's not 5 star quality but it's free and good enough for me!

The room was quiet and comfortable, reminiscent of a lodge in the Colorado mountains, updated furnishings--very pretty actually. Strong
shower pressure, double sinks, comfy beds. My favorite amenity was.the warm swimming pool and jacuzzi.  Quiet atmosphere -- no one else at the outdoor pool nor at the indoor pool. I would stay here again.

This place was a real great surprise. Wife didn't want to stay in a "smelly" casino or a dingy place off 50 so we limited our choices. I had low expectations but this has far exceeded them. It's a 5 star value. They have an indoor and outdoor hottub. The rooms were spotless each time and my wife checks thoroughly. The decor is  very tohoe like which adds to the charm. We plan on staying many times in the future.

Note: we only ever stay in the main building so that's all we can review. The breakfast is crappy. But what free breakfast isn't.

This place gives you ownership rights to belting out "Hotel, motel, Holiday Inn" when you are dancing at a club during your stay in Tahoe... what more excuse do you need to stay here???

OK, fine... here are some more reliable notes...

    Clean updated rooms.

Nice updated bathrooms. Granite countertop... and a long countertop at that. I could imagine me and three of my friends all getting ready for a night out in front of that bathroom mirror and having plenty of room... and I did not expect that from a Holiday Inn.

$5.50 cab ride from casinos. (Very close... walkable in good weather)

Cute wooden doors... gives it that Tahoe rustic charm.

    Comfy beds and pillows.

Microwave and fridge included in the room. Great for some hot chocolate or tea (provided)... or to store some leftovers for midnight munchies when you get back from the casinos/bars.

    Heater worked well.

Plenty of TV channels to zone out to if you need that.

Great cheap stay... I'd go back for sure.

Being one of the only semi nice hotels with availability, we ended up staying here.It was actually quite nice.

The only room available was a suite, and we got a pretty good rate.It was like a little apartment equipped with refrigerator and all, very clean, modern, the bathroom was remodeled extremely nice.Had two rooms both with a nice size television.

Overall stay was good, very close to Harra's and shopping center, glad we lucked out with this place.I would definitely avoid the complementary breakfast and go elsewhere, just took a glance at it and it didn't look to great, but then again I am a little picky.

I was so happy with my experience here. It surpassed my expectations as far as a Tahoe hotel goes.
I made my reservation with Orbitz online and I wasn't aloud to adjust the rate to take into account my boyfriend's AAA membership which wasn't very accomodating, but I doubt that was so much of the hotel's deal as it was the website's.  We had opted for the late check-in, since we drove from the Bay Area after work.
The rooms are situated in either 2 story or 3 story buildings and for the 3 story there are elevators (that worked).  Also up and running was an indoor spa (pretty large size and clean) and a sauna.  You need your room key to get in.  The standard bedroom was enough for 4 adults (w/o full snowboarding gear).  They offer a desk and mirror, microwave, small refrigerator, and coffee station.  There were plenty of towels, a hairdryer, and counterspace in the spacious bathroom.  The housekeeping never bothered us and did a great job each day.
They have a legitimate complimentary breakfast that we didn't realize until the second morning.  It has a soft ending time of 10 am.  They are constantly refilling the stations with egg patties, ham, french toast, muffins and bagels, hot cinnamon buns, and of course cereal, yogurt, oj and coffee.  Our group was infatuated with the "state of the art" pancake machine that produces hotcakes in 45 seconds.  They aren't so much as fluffy as they are just tasting and cakey.
As far as location goes, this could possibly be a little too far for some people who wear high heels, but in flats you could definitely make it to and from the casinos comfortably.  A cab ride was $7.
It really was a great choice and I will definitely be back!

It's ok, but not great value.

Pros: Rooms are clean and quiet (both neighbors and traffic noise). Staff efficient. Free WiFi in rooms and lobby; breakfast included. Convenient access and parking.

Cons: Too expensive ($150+tax for single king bed in June) especially with all the vacancy signs around. King bed was too soft. WiFi signal weak and required login to home page, which would periodically log you out. Breakfast was mostly sugary/processed stuff, with only apples and bananas as fresh fruit, and way too crowded.

Overall: Not bad, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stay here again.

A recent stay at a Holiday Inn Express in Corvallis, OR made me sort of excited about this chain. I used to think Holiday Inns were kind of...dumpy, but the one in Corvallis was fresh and new, with a rather impressive free breakfast and really nice rooms.

My hopes were dashed at this HIE. The rooms are in separate buildings with outdoor corridors, something that just screams "cheap motel" to me. The rooms are decorated fairly nicely, but the free breakfast was an atrocity. The saddest part is that we paid MORE for a room here than we did in Corvallis, and the stay was half as satisfying. I guess Tahoe hotels know they have a captive audience and therefore don't have to try as hard.

I go to Tahoe all the time and before I would ussually either stay at a friends cabin or stay at the hotel/casino. Anyway, this hotel is affordable and very modern and up to date.  The bathrooms are remodeled, equipped w/granite counters and sinks. So lovely :) Best Holiday inn expess ever. Not to mention the staff is so awesome. The last time I stayed here an associate named Kim helped check me in and she gave me a cheapo rate on a peak season day. I was like thank you!!!!!!!! The rooms are equipped w/the usual mini refrigerator, Wi-fi, tv, and ginormous heater/AC.

To top it all off my boyfriend always hits the spa and jacuzzi that they have there. Yes, its freezing out but he loves that shit. Hahahaha. O and of course....continental breakfast. Pretty good too considering its FREE 99!

The hotel is in close proximity to Heavenly and the Harrahs. 2 thumbs up :)

I love this hotel!  Recently went to Tahoe for a wedding and was extremely disappointed with another hotel so we switched to this one late one night.  The rooms are clean, offer hypoallergenic bedding, and free WiFi!

Best part- free breakfast and close to shops, state line, and lake!

Overpriced for what it is.  The room was decently sized with a king bed and a bar...  However, the TV was from 1991 and the heater from 1962.  The heater especially irked me because it was either on or off - no temp gauge - so you either freeze or you sweat.  The shower was OK, but temperamental, sometimes there just wasn't enough hot water for 2 people to shower back to back.

    Bonus: Location
Con: Too $ for what you get

Holiday Inn Express is rapidly becoming one of my favorite places to stay.   Since they cater towards business travelers, they offer ALL the amenities.   Our room had a coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, Internet, hair dryer, and ironing board.  Not to mention they have a great continental breakfast with a lot of great stuff like hot cinnamon buns.

The stay was pretty good for the price. Near the lifts, decent walking distance to shopping areas. Place was nice and neat. Would stay here again especially that they serve pretty good food. The first day it was omlettes then the next day sausages and eggs. Worked out well especially that that it was Valentine's weekend..Only complaint was parking.

I'm rating this hotel low because the beds in our room totally sucked. The rest of the hotel was up to the chain's high standard. It is clean, functionally, and a good hotel breakfast.

This is the first time I've encountered bad beds at a Holiday Inn Express.

Nice features at this hotel. Big bathroom with granite counter, large quiet room.  The outside walkways have plastic grids overlaid for better walking over snow.  Outside, a hot tub and pool, and also an inside hot tub and sauna room.  Bathroom near the front desk, a nice relief after the long drive.  My television worked just fine, comfy bed.   Only minus is, like all holiday inns, the free shampoo is lame.

A good place to stay that's close to the main casinos. I've stayed here twice and both times they've given me a reasonable price for a room. The bathrooms are actually really nice with double sinks and there's a tv, coffee maker, and mini fridge in the room. There's free breakfast but make sure you get there by 9:30 am because it gets quite busy. The staff is happy to help you with anything.

I was pleasantly suprised with this establishment.  The room had everything you could ask for including a mini refridgerator.  We went up there for a fishing vacation and the staff was wonderful.  Fresh towels everyday and no problems.  The continental breakfast in the morning was good too.  Definately would stay here again... Oh yea, did I mention that it was cheap?

Here for Superbowl Weekend ---This HIE was a bust !  Paid $199 for a Romantic Suite which on the photos looked really nice with oval jacuzzi tub/fireplace.  Drove up to this HIE and got a motel feel. The rooms had outside corridor with no mat outside front door or when you enter to wipe off dirt, snow, ice therefore the carpet was filthy, especially as soon as you enter.  The tv was outdated, a VCR, bed was hard, bedspread was old. Was there all of 20 min....checked out..could not  dare sleep in that room..lost my $200 for the 1st night..but sometimes thats what u have to do to get quality rooms someplace else.  HIE Tahoe is a Motel !  Called Embassy Suites.. 2 blocks away..for the same price...premium suite...5 stars ! Hotel lobby very nice with runners throughout so you won't track dirt right from the parking lot into your room!  Room was clean, newly renovated, nice furniture, flat screen in Living/dining room area, fridge , microwave, sink w granite counter top, nice comfy bed w down comforter, nice drapes. Felt like home away from home. Could use an upgrade in bathroom but Its
standard.  Free complimentary full breakfast in dining area on 2nd floor.  In room service food was really good and nice restaurant in Hotel.  Great Location !   HIE Tahoe need to reduce their price for stay,,,it's low budget !

The location is great, just a short walk to the Heavenly Gondola, Safeway for groceries, the movie theatre, restaurants, shopping and Stateline.  The staff here was friendly.  They seemed laid-back and were attentive to our needs.  The room was great, clean and updated.  We stayed here while on our very first family trip to the snow.  Overall experience was great!!  We stayed in the family suite which included a full kitchen (stove, sink, microwave, small refrigerator, I think they also had plates and pans too, 2 separate living quarters- main living room and the other side of the wall, 2 queen beds.  They even have a fireplace that can be seen from both sides of  the room.  Also, a nice lodge area and fireplace in the main lobby, but that place turns into a mad-house in the mornings when everyone is fighting for the bacon and eggs because of the free continental breakfast offered here.  If you have kids, good luck finding a place for your family to sit, just like what we had to do.  You'll just have to wait for a family to finish-up.  They have a truck with a plow and the roads are always cleared-up for the crowd to drive off to the ski resorts.  The other thing about this place to be aware of is the parking.  Good luck in trying to find a place to park if you ever return past 9pm or so at night.  Alot of people like to bring their SUV's and trucks and spacing could be tight.  There's only like 16 spots in the back end of the hotel.  The staff was friendly enough to let us park the CRV in the handicap spot.  Speaking of CRV, I used the navigation system to search for places to eat near the hotel and came across a restaurant called the "NAKED FISH".  Not used to the scaling of the map, it seemed a far walk away, so we all got into the car.  As soon I drove onto the street, the restaurant was literally in front of us.  Ooops, stupid me.  So we went back, parked the car, and walked there instead.  You are in PRIME Location here, everything is ridiculously close.  I recommend for buffet, Harrah's on the 18th floor.  Dinner is less than $20, more selection, better view, and tastes FAR more better than that piece of shit food they have at MONT BLEU.  Avoid that place at all costs!
