Useful:
-The air conditioner is loud as fuck.  Leave the fan set to ON rather than AUTO so you just have a constant hum rather than let it wake you up a few times an hour.
-Aside from the cardio gear, the fitness center is a joke.  They've got a HUGE weight machine taking up tons of space that only lets you do 3 exercises.  Definitely could be replaced by a machine with more flexible options.

Funny:
The sight of the fat man marinading in the hot tub.

Cool:
The place is clean and the staff tolerated us fucking with them as we got wasted in the "great room" they use for breakfast while we took care of the business that brought us to town.  Unless you're in town for some rock climbing, there isn't shit to do in 29 Palms.  The hotel quite literally served as an  oasis in a huge desert of boredom.

Avoid 29Palms if you can, but if you MUST go, this is the place to stay.

A good chain hotel overall, especially in this desolate area. After staying for two weeks on business, I really came to appreciate its many advantages: clean rooms, comfortable bed, very friendly staff, free fast wireless internet, and a good free breakfast in the nice great room downstairs.

Why it didn't get a fifth star? Just a few small things: A) My mini-suite was a good size, but its design was poorly thought out. The living room was basically a couch and coffee table, with no TV or other comfy furniture to make it practical as a living room; it was really just a place to walk through on the way to the bathroom. B) The bathroom was new but very stark and commercial and uninviting, which seemed inconsistent with the good decorating they did everywhere else. C) No kitchen to speak of, just a small mircowave and fridge and some very tiny plastic dinnerware in a cupboard. In a suite I'd expect a few more kitchen amenities.

But for an affordable chain hotel, it met and exceeded expectations. Recommended if you ever have the misfortune of going to 29 Palms.

This place lives up to expectations, and beyond.   That is what a chain is supposed to do -- but this Holiday Inn Express is as clean, as comfortable, and as friendly as any I've been in anywhere.

It's not too far from Joshua Tree National Park, just outside the main area of 29 Palms, so it is quiet and convenient.  Our rooms (suites) had a fridge and coffeemaker.  Beds were comfortable, and everything was squeaky clean.

The complimentary breakfast was bountiful and varied.  It's a deal.

I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel.  I have to admit that I was not expecting much, given what I had heard about 29 Palms, but this hotel more than made up for the dismal surroundings.  The rooms and the hotel as a whole were exceptionally clean.  There were cookies and fresh apples in the lobby when we first arrived. The room (we stayed in a suite) was very large, the bed was comfortable, the service was great, etc...  The fitness room was also quite good... with several workout machines to choose from and a TV present to make the workout that much more enjoyable.  The breakfast in the morning features all the basics such as cereals, bagels, muffins, danishes, but also has omelets, biscuits and gravy and hot cinnamon rolls. The room also comes with free wi-fi and if you don't have your computer, they have one you can use downstairs for free!

Needless to say, this hotel comes highly recommended if you are staying in Twentynine Palms.

I agree with other reviewers, in the middle on no-where but then again that is why you go there!!!!

We stayed there during our visit to Joshua Tree National Park, a beauty in its own right. The hotel was great, clean and relaxing. The heated jacuzzi and pool was a great bonus in the late cold evenings after a day's hike. Rooms were clean along with the bathrooms, internet service fast, we had a flat screen in our room. I was very happy over all. Airconditioning and heating worked fine. Nothing to complain about at this place. The breakfast is by far much better than other Holiday Inns we have stayed in, more selection etc. The fireplace just adds to the ambiance!

I would stay there again in a heartbeat... although we did not get any cookies or apples :(

Next time we go we will make up for it :)
