3 reviews for Holiday Inn Express
This is a solid hotel close to the airport. Nothing super special (it's a Holiday Inn Express after all), but definitely a good experience. The decor is modern, the staff is competent and friendly, and everything was clean. Our room (221) had a desk, a lounge chair, and a comfy king-sized bed.
Highs:
Free internet (wireless and wired)
Free hot breakfast. Omelets, scrambled eggs, biscuits, hot cinnamon rolls, and the typical morass of "continental items" like toast, yogurt, juice, and coffee. Solid.
Free gift bag when you check in.
Free cookies when you check in.
Free late-check out (1pm).
Right on the bay with a walking/jogging trail right behind the hotel.
Good lighting inside the rooms.
Lows:
Smallish rooms.
Not much in the way of dining options within walking distance. There's a sizzler down the street ("Shooter - my treat!")
Occasional airport noise (not very loud, not very much, but it IS less than a mile away).
For the money I spent ($120) I couldn't be happier.

Nice views and nice continental breakfast. Other than that, they get a pretty poor rating for customer service.
We tried to do laundry at 10:45pm last night. We went up to the desk to ask about it, and were told that was fine, they have change machines in there, and they have detergent available. No. They close at 11pm, no change machines, and until today when I saw the sign in the laundry room, the detergent is bought at the front desk. Thanks for mentioning that.
Rooms are okay, a bit dingy and dark and old compared to my stay in Ohio. The bathroom is horribly cramped, having one person in the shower and the other one at the sink makes is just horrible. Air conditioner makes loud banging noises if turned up above low (also doesn't work all that well). There are no fast food or market places within walking distance, only sit down restaurants. Very few channels available on the TV, no channel guide available. Also they run on a weird schedule.
Also, phone service is very rude in general. I called to make sure that it would be okay if we checked in late, and the employee just kept repeating that "it's guaranteed". Um, thanks? I was several hours late to check in, I was just trying to be polite. Also, this morning, my partner asked to have them call for the SFO shuttle times and was rudely told that "you just missed it" and was hung up on. Yes, really.
Also, as a side note, for all you coffee addicts like myself... no, no 24 hour coffee. Get it all before 9:30am or you have to go find it somewhere else.
Also, *I* did not get a gift bag upon check in, cookies, or anything else like that. Shuttles are iffy and the drivers are questionable.

Continental breakfast included in the overpriced rate. Rooms dark and somewhat dumpy. Cramped bathroom.
Occasional loud plane at night.
Cool bayshore view in the back.
