1. Great clean, quiet (see #3), and pet-friendly hotel with the river and the Astoria Riverwalk out your back door + free internet.
2. I don't like staying in hotels that much because something is generally wrong with at least one of the reasons in number one, but it was a pleasant stay. Of course the jacuzzi and fireplace room didn't hurt either.
3. The Astoria Riverfront Trolley runs between the river and the hotel (on the Riverwalk - duh) and is relatively quiet enough. Only downside was an early Sunday morning wakeup (6ish) when the ships coming into the area were "announcing there presence with authority" for about 30-45 minutes. I took the dog out for a walk in the fog, so it didn't bother me too much.

I've stayed here twice. First time was last spring as a family in one of the suites. This past weekend it was an incredibly brief stay as part of my Portland to Coast relay insanity. My group needed a place to crash, grab a couple of hours of sleep and get a meal before meeting the rest of our team at the finish line in Seaside.
This is a great family option in Astoria. My kids loved having the indoor pool and devoured the breakfast--mini bagels, cereal, cinnamon rolls. The food was less appetizing for me the second time around.
The rooms were clean on both visits and have all the basics. It is practically underneath the Astoria-Megler Bridge, hence the funny tag line above which they use to advertise the hotel. Great views if you have a river view room, but I never noticed any road noise.
I like the location since I don't mind walking a bit to get to downtown, but it isn't in the heart of the city. Most would need to drive 1/2 mile to get to the restaurants, shops and museums. The trolley also runs right behind the hotel.
On both visits, my interactions with the staff over the phone and in person were excellent. Not a place I'd necessarily choose for a romantic getaway with my husband, there are a few boutique hotels higher on my list, but just fine for the family.

I went here during the Valentine weekend. We got a third story room and view of the river. For a Holiday inn this was very nice. Rooms were clean smelt almost new. The free breakfast was alright. They do allow animals so that so was cool with me I love animals. Very friendly service thats always a plus. At night is awesome if you have a river view. Watching the boats come and go is cool. We had a very nice two night stay. I would recommend this place when you stay in Astoria. Not too pricey for what it is, but higher then some of the other places in town. But a good price for a river view. Not to far away from anything so good location.
Yeah, yeah, I know, the Holiday Inn...
Believe it or not, it's got a lot going for it, at the right price -- very clean rooms, half of which are suites offering river views and a wet bar with a fridge & microwave for your PBRs and cheese whiz. Breakfast and free internet are included and they have beach cruiser bicycles for rent to ride up and down the river walk (or wherever).
Best of all is the view of the river, with mountains on the Washington State side, the Astoria bridge, seals and massive ships going up an down the Columbia -- almost feel that you can reach out an touch them.
My boyfriend and I found the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Astoria during a rather spontaneous trip to the quaint town of Astoria, OR. We didn't have reservations, but it was off-season and we had no trouble getting a room -- in fact, we were upgraded to a river-view room for the price of a regular one.
The hotel itself is gorgeous, with a contemporary decor and a great location right under the bridge and on the Columbia River. Our second-floor room offered incredible views of the water and bridge, and we loved watching the steamboats go by from our large window. The room was immaculate and beautifully decorated, with a small fridge, a microwave, coffee pot and a roomy, CLEAN bathroom. There was a fitness center and an indoor pool and hot tub, the latter of which we took advantage of. All the areas were extremely clean and well-maintained. The hotel also offered a decent breakfast buffet.
Astoria is an extremely charming town. We were able to walk to nearby restaurants (we especially recommend the Cafe Uniontown), and it was a quick drive to the local supermarket, must-see spots (including the houses used in the films "the Goonies," and "the Ring 2"), hidden gems (Cathedral Tree Trail), and the town center, where we browsed the funky little shops (and found everyone to be extremely friendly).
Our only negative experience came when, on the second night, a large family with small children rented the rooms on either side of ours. The kids ran up and down the hall all night, screaming and laughing and using the small alcove by our door to hide. They also continuously went from one room to another, slamming the heavy doors. We politely asked the adults to keep it down and got no results. After calling down to the front desk twice and being told that a manager would be up, no one ever showed. We got no sleep that night. The next morning, upon our scheduled check-out, we complained and the woman behind the desk offered to take half off the cost of one night; we were unhappy with that, considering that the second night had been completely ruined, so she gave us the room for free for that night.
All in all, it was a great experience and we will absolutely stay at this hotel again the next time we're in Astoria.

We absolutely loved our stay Holiday Inn Express in Astoria. We had planned our trip many months in advance. This was a side trip from visiting family for Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful room on the second floor, river view, with a spacious jacuzzi for two. We had wonderful view of the Columbia River as well as Astoria-Megler Bridge. There is a wonderful little river walk path right behind the hotel.
The hotel was wonderfully decorated for the holidays. The room was spacious and laid out just perfectly. The jacuzzi by the large windows. Don't worry nobody can see in unless they were on ladders. It's nice to be able to sit in the jacuzzi and have the fireplace roaring. How relaxing is that! There were the usual amenities, refrigerator and microwave, in room coffee pot, hair dryer. There was a DVD player in the room and with the package we had we could view as many as we liked. I think we saw one movie if that at all. Hahahah and all the popcorn we wanted.
The breakfast was more than expected. Being that it was a Holiday Express we expected packaged danishes. They had fresh fruits, yogurts, juices and 24hr coffee and tea available. Plus the morning paper.
We are wanting to go back to Astoria and would not even think to stay anywhere else. Definitely recommend it to family and friends.
