I've attended three conventions at this Holiday Inn and I have to say that it's grown on me.  It's not the greatest hotel in which to hold a convention, but it's still a lot of fun.  The rooms are clean and the staff is pleasant.

One thing that irks me is that the smoking area is immediately outside of the back entrance, but that's a minor thing.

I attended a birthday party this past weekend in the Costa Mesa Suites at the Holiday Inn and I was really impressed. From the outside, it may not look like much, but it was very nice inside!

The tables were set up immaculately, with water goblets and coffee set ups for everyone. Our buffet was delicious, it was appetizers, but it was all very filling. My favorite was a canape with cream cheese, shrimp, asparagus, and a mandarin orange segment. Really different and interesting. We also enjoyed the steak kabobs and stuffed mushrooms.

I never would have thought that the Holiday Inn would have a nice bar area, so I was pleasantly surprised. The bartender was pleasant and drinks were cheap! Although they did run out of champagne pretty early into the evening. I guess that was for the best!

Service was pretty good. I would definitley think about hosting an event here!

Staying at this Holiday Inn has raised my opinion of the entire chain.  Your results may vary, but I found the CM location to be a well above average place to stay.  I got my room for only $45 a night from Hotwire.

Staff:  The front desk was very friendly for both check-in and out.

Rooms:  Clean bed and clean bathroom.  A/C noise level acceptable.

Internet:  Free wi-fi on the ground floor and lobby.  Ethernet also available (bring your own cable).

Amenities:  Fridge, TV, Sofa, USA Today, relatively well equipped fitness room.  Bar and restaurant in the hotel.  McDonald's right next door for late night Big Mac attacks.

Wasn't Holiday Inn trying to climb a couple notches up the lodging food chain, just a few years ago?  What happened?  Two colleagues and I spent a couple nights here and of our 3 rooms, mine was the only clean, unsmelly one.  Mine was also the only one with good working high speed internet.  The other two rooms had smelly, smoked in funkiness, sticky carpet, and unreliable, slow internet access.  The breakfast buffet was almost inedible--stale french toast, stale scrambled eggs, bitter tasteless coffee.  These buffets are supposed to appeal to biz travelers and this part of Orange County is rancid with biz travelers.  Oddly the Holiday Inn in Wichita was just as bad and even more careworn.  Is this a pattern?
