5 reviews for Holiday Inn by the Sea Carlsbad
While the arrangement is more like a motel where you pull your car right up in front of your room, the interior is well appointed just like any other Holiday Inn. It's clean and comfortable and convenient. I got a room with 2 queen bed for two nights *and* 4 tickets to Legoland all for $400. Definitely worth poking around for deals.
If I have to point out a downside, it's the noise level. I can clearly hear the highway (I-5) noise from our room, but it did not bother me much. Note that there's no elevators, so if you expect to have big heavy luggages, ask for a downstairs room.
One star for the room: large (this is a junior suite, FYI), very clean, good tv, fridge, couch, coffeemaker, nice pillows, etc.
One star for the view. We have a garden view, but, while they said it overlooks the pool, it actually overlooks a garden and the pool is waaaay off to the side.
One for the front desk staff...very nice. (the rest sort of negate the other stars):
Also, the location can't be beat. It's across from the outlets and within two freeway exits of Carlsbad village and very close to the beach.
Then, there are the *#%£€ing generators. How dare you people call anything that close to the loud obnoxious generators a junior suite!!! At 10 pm we were exhausted and when we closed the doors all we heard the were the generators. The air conditioner was more pleasant than that. They had no other rooms, unfortunately.
The loud slamming and shattering of bottles after 12 midnight following an event (the restaurant is next to the banquet center) didn't add to it.
Note: if you're sensitive to noise, ask for a room away from the TGI Friday.
This place smells bad. We only stayed here one night, but that was enough to mark us. Everything we brought into the place smelled. Now my car smells...

We had a really good night here. True like the first reviewer mentioned - whoa on the $180 night - but you are right on top of the outlets and close to Lego land.
I thought the room was great, the pool was great and the gal that checked us in, Jessica, was incredibly helpful and helped us with tickets and shuttle and breakfast plans. There are varied food choices in walking distances, Fridays, Rubys and Kinds seafood.
I looked around and didn't find anything that close that was too much cheaper so...I was pretty happy.

I stayed here the night before the Carlsbad Marathon. The good thing about this hotel is there is a bus shuttle to the starting line so you don't have to drive in the morning. The bad thing is I paid $180 for one night and it's a bit expensive to me. Well I guess when you pick a hotel close to the Marathon it will cost you. The internet was kind of slow.
I found a spider sunday morning.
