Neighborhood: BuckheadGreat meal, great vibe, unique cocktails...all around great experience. Greg took great care of us at the bar and you can tell he has a vested interest in making sure you have a great time. Go with the coca-cola with lime cubes for a great start. We had a great sampling of plates....loved the pork belly, the griddle mushrooms, the deviled eggs, the sensational house cured ham! if you are a fan of classic southern staples distilled into their purest and tastiest forms, this is what you can expect. I came with pretty high expectations from my experiences at Eugene, and they were met. I highly recommend spending some time here...

"86 THE BURGER!" comes the chef's booming voice over the bullhorn. "WOO HOO!" The crowd cheers, claps, laughs, and yells. It's only 10:04 p.m. and the 10:00 burger has sold out.
I don't eat late. Especially on a weeknight. I am usually on my way to dream land by 10 pm. But this burger has a reputation. And I had to have it. Sleep be damned.
And it was worth it. As my friend from Texas would say, boy howdee was it worth it! That burger was delish. And the fries were excellent. I loved the homemade mustard. The bun was perfect.
Night owls and early birds alike: get here by 9:30 to snag a seat and get your name on the list to make sure you don't hear "86 THE BURGER!" before you've secured yours.

We read some review where the mixologist said something about how anyone can pour a drink, but only mixologists can make special drinks (such as those poured at H&F).
The quote was annoying. But OMG this restaurant and that mixologist are both doing divine things.
I actually saved the menu so as to remember what food we ate (in case the delicious memory slipped my mind). But I really don't think it was necessary.
I've decided H&F is like sleeping with your high school thing years later. You know when you get down to business that it's going to be good--so your brain will kick into memory mode and saves each detail.
Highlight for hubby: chopped steak served tar tare. He said it was a revelation.
My highlight: all the food I didn't get to try last night that I know I'll be going back to enjoy (hello head to toe---I know where to find you).
Fried haters and oyster haters do yourself a favor and go get some of that cornmeal fried oyster madness. I promise it'll change your life.

Can I marry you Holeman & Finch? Can you come cook for me every night? I can't believe I've yet to review a place that always promises a good drink, a good time, and some yummy food.
To start, the design of this restaurant is my style to a "T". It is literally as if the ai3 architecture firm that designed it went in my complicated little head and said "this is the place she dreams of, but can't communicate on paper." I guess that's why I'm not a cool architect at ai3.....but I digress. I love everything about the atmosphere. The lighting, the warm wood, the bathrooms, the pendants above the bar. By the way, if you dream of carrying those pendants home with you, you'll have to go to Italy to do so since they aren't available in the US. How do I know? I asked. I'm a design nerd like that.
Now, on to the drinks. Creative cocktails with ingredients you probably haven't heard of. A drink that tastes like Coca Cola but packs quite a bit more punch than what you would get for $1.00 out of the vending machine. A drink that tastes like blackberry Kool-Aid but you shouldn't share with kids. A drink mixed with their house brewed ginger beer. *Le sigh* And if it isn't on the menu but you had it in some bar some random place and can even vaguely remember the name or a few ingredients, THESE are the people to try and recreate it for you.
And the food. Swoon. Everything here seems to have that "melts in your mouth" quality. My new personal fave being the Hen of the Woods mushroom dish. But the burger....OHHHHHH the burger. Word has gotten out, and they sadly disappear lightning fast and I am very often disappointed. NO BURGER FOR YOU! Okay, they're not that mean. It's more like "I am so so so sorry to tell you, but we are *sigh* out *sigh* of the burger" as the waiter hangs his head in reverence. Fear not, there are several other options that are delectable but I just can't get that burger out of my head.
I never walk out of here wishing I had gone somewhere else, spent my money on other things, or cursing bad service. And that, my friends, is why Holeman & Finch will have a very very long life in Atlanta.

Their drinks have a spell on me. I can't really tell you much about the food, but the drinks, yeah those are pretty good.
Visited here late on a Wednesday, and it was pretty damn busy! I would hate to see this place during the weekend, although I'm told it's as bad as I can imagine. Being a pescatarian, there is not a whole lot for me to eat at this place, so food was replaced with drinks.
I did in fact sample 1 dish, the hen of the woods, which is a mushroom dish served over polenta. This was actually very tasty, although very rich with butter/cheese. I highly recommend this decadent treat. I did actually have a very small bite of a pasta dish, but had to be wary of the bacon. There was plenty of bacon grease on the noodles - but I survived. The pasta dish was quite good - pasta was well cooked and fresh.
Anyway, I'm just delaying the important part of the review- the drinks. They have a few drink specials printed on a small laminated card. All sound incredible - and different! Not the usual thing you run across at most places, which is a welcome change. I ordered a sidecar to start out and test the mixologist skills here. Sidecar verdict - not bad, though a little tart for some. I enjoyed some that were tastier in New Orleans, but I thought this was well prepared. Next up for me was a muddy waters (off their menu). This was a rootbeer flavored beverage, but I can't recall all the ingredients. All I can recall is awesomeness. Finally I had the blueberry rum shrub (also off their menu). If I'm not mistaken that was the name. Also chock full of awesomeness (and ginger ale). I posted a picture of this being made in the photos section.
Pretty much this is now my go to bar. Cool little space, with awesome drinks. The hanging meats could be a problem for some, but I thought it was no big.
Lastly I should mention the burgers. Apparently not on the menu, and only sold after 10pm. That night they sold all 22 in 3minutes. Sounds like a hard to get item to me. Just a little FYI for those that are interested....
Definitely check this place out - at least for the drinks man!

Even the overly cacophonous Buckhead ladies celebrating next to us at the communal table couldn't diminish my love for Holeman & Finch.
We began with cocktails which were just the sort of refreshment this evening called for! Jumping right in, we ordered the pimento cheese, griddled Hen of the Woods mushrooms, deviled eggs three ways and the house cured plate.
The pimento cheese was so tasty it made me sad to think I lived more than 25 years without knowing of this Southern delicacy. I made up for lost time at Holeman & Finch by gobbling up the blend of cheese, mayo and sweet peppers on crispy crackers. It was difficult to stop.
But I had to save room for the house cured plate which arrived with meat, meat and more meat! Charcuterie lovers, take note!
The griddled Hen of the Woods mushrooms came atop Anson Mills polenta. The maitakes were rich and meaty; the polenta served to balance them with its creaminess and a bit of aged Parmesan took this dish to another level.
As for the deviled eggs three way - now why didn't I think of adding bacon to deviled eggs?!
There's so much on the menu I didn't get to try (including a Coca Cola and Fernet Branca ice cream float!), but you can be sure I'll be clamoring to return to Holeman & Finch on my next visit to Atlanta to cample more widely!

I don't know if their drinks have a spell on me, or if I really am that much of a lush... but in either case, I can't get enough of this place.
Three words...
"IT'S BURGER TIME!"
That's my new calling. Oh how I love the double burger goodness that is found post 10pm... So tasty, so meaty, so delicious... Hah!
That aside, we tried a few new items, including the "head to tail" and the "gratin of marrow". Tasty, and would have expected no less... The "Crunch Gentleman" was in effect as well.
Sat night was super crowded, and I may have to reserve coming here to just the weeknights. :( Then again, my stomach and it's burger cravings may veto that plan...

Based on recommendations from fellow yelpers, my sole mission was to try the famous burger (although I was warned that I may not get one). Upon walking in, after telling the waiter we had 3 in our party, the first thing I blurted out was "How many burgers you got left?" After checking in the kitchen, our waiter tells us there's only one.
One? Great, now I have to kill these 2 fools just so I can have the burger. "I'll take it, for the love of God, give it to ME!" In the end, we cut it into 3 parts. Sadness.
The space isn't too big, it's divided into a dining area and a bar area.
Pros:
Burger - One damn fine burger.....It's in my top 3.
Chicken Pate - velvety and full of flavor
Guiness on tap
Cons:
Not enough burgers
Toast that came with the Pate - too hard imo
Fries that came with the burger was overly salted
We also had the pig ears and tail. The tail was really good but the ears were deep fried and lost the taste in the process.
Good place to have drinks with friends or bring dates to. I'll definitely come back to try the prok belly and oysters.

Love this place. From the open kitchen that faces you when you enter the resto, the funky doors on the restroom, hanging meat all over the place and of course the stellar mixologists. My friend loved that they had little hooks under the bar in which to hold her purse -- they've thought of anything. I was digging the fresh bread w/charcuterie butter - delicious. They have a great beer selection to go along with their signature cocktails - which are the stars of the show. I'm hoping to go back soon to check out the burger that's available only after 10.

This place is perfect when you want to go somewhere with stellar food but want to have that casual bar atmosphere. Honestly, I could make a meal off of the sparkling Rose and their homemade bread. Wow. (In fact, the last time I went, I ate 2 orders of their bread. Don't judge!)
Finally, if you really like hamburgers, be sure to show up there at 10pm for burger time. It is the only time you will be able to order a burger and it is totally worth it. The burger is served on a homemade bun with homemade mustard and ketchup. Yum!

I love novelty, even if a bit contrived. This odd cut of meat phenomenon that is hitting Atlanta seems a bit contrived. Generally, innards and "parts" are either considered a delicacy (sweetbreads) or something eaten out of necessity (pig ears and tails) from lack of being able to afford good cuts. What H&F is attempting to do is bring both cuts to the masses. Well, the masses that call Buckhead their stomping ground, anyway. Is parading obscure food around in a "for the people costume" a little annoying to me? Yes. But it is so good and the service so amazing, that I just can't stay annoyed for long. Plus, I'm kinda one of those foodie wannabes that flocks to this sort of place. Besides the draw of alternative meat, H&F's other plates are darn good, though my cayenne deviled egg did leave a little something to be desired. Still, I definitely recommend! Check out the bathrooms. Neat-O.

Grabbed a few plates and a drink at Holeman & Finch last night. First, let me say that the space is very cool. I really like how you can see into the kitchen when you enter, and I love the hanging cured meats. (This place is not vegan/vegetarian friendly.) There are two options for seating. The speak easy section (kinda first come first serve with a large family style table in the center) and the bar section which can get loud. Since it was Monday, and not as crowded, we opted for the bar and grabbed a table.
I started with a signature cocktail. I apologize, I can't remember the name, and it isn't on the menu online, but it was the top one on the menu there, and was suggested by the server. It also had pernod, which I wasn't sure I would like, but the licorice flavor was subtle, and actually worked really well with the drink.
As for the food, we ordered the gentleman's relish with toast, the carbonara with pancetta, and the skirt steak with potatoes. The portions were very small, so you may need to order several to fill up. The skirt steak was cooked rare, but was still fairly tough. It was served with a tasty chimichurri sauce, but unfortunately was sitting in a bowl of grease. The potatoes in the dish were also coated in grease. It was a bit unappealing. The gentleman's toast was crunchy and buttery. Score! The relish was delicious, but is probably not for everyone. The server said you either love it or hate it. I loved it. It was made with anchovies, salt, pepper, butter, and vinegar. Lastly, and probably my favorite of all the dishes we had was the carbonara. It was served with an over-easy egg that we stirred into the dish adding additional richness to an already intense flavor. The saltiness of the pancetta kicked up the flavor as well, and the noodles were thicker which I really liked.
All in all after the three dishes and drinks, the meal was about $45 which is totally affordable. We weren't stuffed, but were satisfied. The food was ok. It's definitely bar food, and extremely fatty and greasy, which I'm not crazy about, but overall the flavor was good. I wasn't totally blown away, but I will definitely come back for Round 2 to taste more dishes and drinks.
Final thoughts: cool space. greasy/fatty food. awesome drinks.

Update 5/5/08: They got their liquor license. Woohoo!
The name of the place sounds so dirty... or maybe I just have a dirty mind. It sounds like a place where George Michael would love to have a "take-your-pants-off-party". It's not... but he might be aroused by the hanging meats and have a relapse.
It's a classy speakeasy-esque joint without the pretentiousness, secwet handshake or password. It's casual and friendly. The menu is creative and inspiring... with plates such as Head To Tail, Pork Belly w/ Anson Mill Grits, Fried Bologna to Chix Liver Pate w/ verjus. There's so many options you have to make multiple visits. Don't worry, you don't have to twist my arm to come back since I live down the street.
It's still BYOB with no corkage fee...woohoo! But I shed a tear or two for Greg Best, the mixologist who has nothing else to do except play with his muddler in his pocket. He gets horny from time to time, so don't be surprised if he whips it out... his Bullhorn that is! (Yelpers' minds are always in the gutta!) They still have no idea when their license will come in...so in the mean time grub on some tasty vittles, Linton Hopkins' focus on food is on point...if not a little heavy on salt.
It's a cozy place with good grub and potentially great drinks... just don't do any fancy foot-tapping in the bathroom.
Wham! Bam! Thank you cured Ham!

I went out to Holeman & Finch with Peter Y. and Dio S. after an awesome yelp party. We had to try these burgers because someone has mentioned that these burgers only get served at 10 PM and they get sold out real quick. We got there just in the nick of time for the last burger and proceed to split that into three. The burger meat was pretty lean and tasty, but it felt all over the place because it was split into three. We also tried Chicken Pate topped with apple jelly and toast and nice green tomato. The fried catfish nuggets were pretty good too. There was a dish of pig ears and tails. The pig ears were thin sliced breaded and fried which made not too much different from onion rings. The pig tails were banging. Pretty good meal. My three stars might be a little stingy. I can't fairly rate a burger without eating a whole burger, so I will give it the benefit of a doubt and try it a whole next time.

Opens late, great drinks selection, tasteful but relaxed atmosphere, and a foodie friendly menu, Holeman & Finch is one of the best late night get-together food pub in town.
I enjoyed most of the items on the heavy-handed menu featuring liberal use of fats and variety meats (chef Adam: "We got the scallop and salad for the Buckhead crowd"). Chicken liver pate is velvety, fragrant, and sweet. Wonderful pork belly, roasted sweetbread, and carbonara (might be better than Richard Blais'...my opinion). I was very excited to see the range of house cured meats (hmm, even includes lardo), and did enjoy very much, but have to say the $15 sample plate falls short to Krog Bar's $20 sample plate. Maybe as good as Ecco's. Love the hen of woods mushroom on polenta, although I had it way too salty one time; so H&F's execution is not 100% consistent. The elusive burger was comically more similar to a fast food style than gourmet. My expectation was very high and I was underwhelmed, but still an amazing burger. Same thing with the fries (please chef don't kick me out of the restaurant next time after you read this...). Remoulade with fried oysters--absolutely dynamite. The amount of butter that must have gone into the mashed potatoes (here served with skirt steak) was mind boggling, every mouthful was heaven combined with a sense of doom. The beignet I was not too crazy about. Overall a fantastic menu for late night hang out for people who love to eat.
Beer and wine lists are not long, but offer really good selections. The highlight though of course is cocktails made by the famous mixologist. These are definitely original and must-try. What surprised me was that you can order coffee and espresso drinks, which are not on the menu, and these will be made with Dancing Goat. Wow. And the bar staff all took coffee/espresso classes at the Dancing Goat. Really a huge wow.
The first time I visited, this place struck me as looking swankier than the name and menu would suggest, but after many visits I can definitely conclude that the atmosphere is very relaxed and casual. A diverse crowd slowly transforms to one of lots of restaurant people, cooks, their friends, and gastroholics after midnight. Although this is a small space, I haven't found seating to be a problem.
H&F doesn't have a singularly perfect dish, and the menu is not for everyone, but with the combination of great food, drinks, space, and crowd, overall is one of my favorite places to go eat and get together late at night.

I'm a big fan of Holeman & Finch.
Greg, Andy, and Regan are great bar keeps. Cocktails are other-worldly (perhaps a bit medicinal for some), they have a great wine list, and the food is great.
BIG PLUS*** There is a MARTA bus stop right in front of the restaurant. If you live anywhere near P'Tree, you can jump on the 110 or 23 bus and get dropped right at the front door. This is huge for a drinking establishment.
The only space for improvement is that I wish there were some lighter options on the menu.
This place is great.

The cage of cured meat hangin' up front is either gonna make you go mmmmm or ewww! But the real strength of this place is the mixing skills of the bartenders, and according to my fellow yelpers, the 'not-on-the-menu' burgers.
Nice ambiance and a great in 'da cut location on Peachtree. Good spot for a late night fix. Easily accessible, free parking, open late, and good service. Nice place.
p.s. thanks 'Gastro'

For a few reasons, my expectations for this place were pretty high. I wish that I could say that I wasn't disappointed but a teeny tiny part of me was.
They don't take reservations - which is no big deal here in Atlanta. Any place that doesn't take reservations back in SF, you have to get there at 5.30 to secure a table or a place at the bar. My friend and I got there around 6.00 and getting a table (in such a small place) wasn't a problem.
I was surprised at how small the actual bar area was - again, I was expecting a little bit more since there is probably only room for about 6 people at the bar itself. I was also really surprised at how small the restaurant was - unless I totally missed a larger dining room, the only seats are right to the left of when you enter the space. I would say that there is no more than seating for 40. Again, maybe I totally missed a whole other dining room...and if so, someone please let me know.
Once we sat down (table for two right next to the window), I got a chance to check out the decor which I really liked. Warm, cozy, and loved the huge, hanging drum shades in the dining room. But as much I really liked the interior, I was not a huge fan of the entire wall of windows looking out at the valet/front entrance to the hotel next door.
Now finally...on to the food itself. We started out with a glass of sparkling pinot (pretty much a rose) and the steak tar tare and the duck liver pate. The pate was TO DIE FOR!! Honest to god - it was more like dessert than a small plate. There was this awesome sweet gelee on the top of the pate and although I forget what the waiter said that it was, it kicked ass. I wanted to just eat it with a spoon! The steak tar tare was good - not great - but really good. But maybe it would have been great had I not eaten some of the pate first.
A note on our server - really nice guy and gave a great rundown of the menu (even if he did cover every single item listed) but he definitely seemed miffed every time that he came by our table and we weren't ready to order. We told him that we planned on being there for a while since my friend from SF was in town and we had some serious catching up to do - but he couldn't have given two shits. We ordered a bottle of wine and had additional glasses on top of that so it wasn't like we were sitting there for hours on end drinking water and eating free bread! But by the time we left, he had lightened up a bit.
Back to the food. The next two dishes that we ordered were the scallops over sweet corn and some salad of which I am totally blanking on. Both were really good (I'm a sucker for scallops and sweet corn. Hello Rathbun's!). Then for dessert we decided to try the chocolate brownie with black pepper ice-cream. I'll tell you right now, I really wanted the ice-cream to taste like black pepper, shoot, even have a smidgen of black pepper flavor. Either my palate totally sucks or there were only trace amounts (that's my CSI skills kicking in there) of black pepper. So what we ended up with was a brownie sundae with chocolate ice cream. It was good - but I could have had it anywhere.
All in all, we had a great meal with some minor misses throughout the course of the night. I would definitely go back - but it's not at the top of my list.

Linton Hopkins and team have done an amazing job of creating a desintation that is desperately needed in Atlanta. Here's a place with progressive food options, small plates so you mix it up everytime you go ... the oysters on the half shell (excellent) and reasonable; The Hamuchi tuna with a great jalepeno kick; the crawfish beignets (who would have thought -- excellent). I could go on and on. The atmosphere feels warm modern and the bar has REAL appeal.

Loved Holeman & Finch! We had been talking about going here for a long time and finally made it happen on a random Tuesday night. We had actually just eaten dinner at Home, so we weren't hungry (although that didn't stop us from sharing a few snacks). Drinks were great. I am typically a beer or wine person, but I started with a cocktail made with homemade limoncello, vodka, and raspberry. A Muddy Waters was also sampled, made with absinthe and homemade rootbeer. Crawfish beignets were great and we tried a housecured plate (I even tried lardon for the first time) that was awesome. Our service was wonderful; everyone there seems to really love food and what they do. We moved on to the beer list, which had all sorts of options. I'm not too adventurous so I stuck with a Hefeweizen.
If you can be there for burger time, it alone is worth the trip. Again, we weren't hungry, but when you hear someone get on a microphone and announce it's burger time (followed by Whoo-ah! from the kitchen) you can make room. Fabulous.

The first thing you see when you walk in the gastropub is the kitchen, which I loved. Chef Linton Hopkins was working away with his seemingly permanent smile. The cooks looked relaxed and happy--always a good sign.
The entrance is flanked with a see-through wine cellar and a glass meat locker filled with a massive assortment of the in-house cured meats. You have two options for seating. There is a "speakeasy" with tables to the left or the bar to the right. We chose the bar because we could interact with the barkeeps while eating. We sat in front of Andy Minchow, a partner in the establishment and spied Greg Best, who is also a partner working his tail off as usual.
I really dug the music selection the entire night (Tricky, The Cure, The Gorillaz, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Radiohead, War, etc.). It was like a greatest hits from my ipod so I instantly felt at home. The purse hooks under the bar were a great touch and so thoughtful. Call me crazy, but I hate putting my purses on the floor. Looking around, it was a definite mix of people including one too many former cheerleaders sucking down the Chardonnay instead of the fantastic cocktails. But, hey, they seemed like they were having a good time so who am I to judge?
Having organized an alternate form of transportation, Moon and I proceeded to work our way through most of the cocktail menu and also had Andy make us some drinks off the menu. The drinks were so good--dangerous even.
Verdict:
This is the kind of place Atlanta needs. The cocktails, staff and atmosphere were just fabulous. The food, while good and made from well-sourced ingredients, didn't wow me but it worked given the setting. Anyone would feel comfortable here and I can definitely see this place becoming a regular spot on our rotation. When we asked Greg how business had been, he said, "It has been so much fun that we don't want to leave at the end of night." We felt the same way.

When you enter the building, the decor is pretty minimum, with clear glass that has hand-written items in black - to categorize the type of cured meats hanging behind the glass itself.. so the approach to the decor is an awesome deli with meats hanging ..
Ended up eating at the bar.. and the menu was pretty extensive for a small plates setup.. What is small plates you say? It's like Tapas..little bits of food each plate ranging from 6-14 bucks.
What was ordered?
Head/ Tail (I think this was pork) - the tail was yummy with some cartilage to give it some bite, it was coated in a crispy non-oily fried batter, when you bite into it, it goooos out some yumminess.. the ear cartilage was very soft, but honestly had real no taste to it. This all came with a BBQ sauce dip- which I really didn't care for.. since it masked the taste of the entire dish and you might as well be eating nuggets from McDonald's otherwise.
Pork Belly - AHHH man it was damn good, a little dry, but I ain't complaining, since there was enough fat to go around..it was served w/ some awesome ass GRITS.. OK.. since I moved to ATL, Yes, I do now appreciate some cheesy grits I cannot lie.
Chicken Liver w/ an anjus to DIE FOR... it came w/ mini toast, and the liver was so delicious .. would definitely recommend this for sure if you go here.. it's a great combo of sweetness and richness..they give you lots of pate, so be sure to ask for more toast..
Woods Mushroom- was served with palenta, which helped the dish cut its saltiness down a bit.. but the mushroom would be awesome if the chef was light on his hands w/ the salt.. the texture of the plate was great. I hope the next time I try it, it will be less salty.
Overall.. the restaurant is definitely a very fun concept.. small plates to eat w/ friends..and as soon as they get their liquor license, I am sure it will be wall- wall packed.. the service was great and attentive.. to end the evening we had the fried donuts, and let me tell you, it was ok.. It can NOT Beat a Fresh KK... I mean call me what you want.. but fresh Krispy Kreme dressed up on a plate, can easily sell for 7.00.. and damn I would pay for it..
