Man I love this place. This should mean something, since I'm not really a meat fan. Unless I'm here.
They have your pretty standard fare of ribs and steak, but also have more unique items like Dr. Pepper chicken (which is delicious, by the way). I usually order the chopped steak. Yeah, I know, chopped steak. But its prepared so perfectly- slightly crisped along the edges, skillfully seasoned, and delightfully greasy. I mean, since its so perfect, why spend the extra money on sirloin? This entree came with a salad and a side. I usually skip the baked potato if I order the appetizer of potato skins, which I would describe as "a plate of baked potato halves with melted cheese, bacon bits, chives, and a side ranch that are to be eaten with the hands." Everything washes down well with a Shiner.
I ordered the banana pudding for desert. The portion was a bit heftier than expected, but I still ate the whole thing.
Service is always good , just come in with an open mind . This place is old school white southern baptist feel to it. . The beer is good if you like German beer or they also have the local watered downed stuff . Mushrooms are so good and bad for you at the same time . I like the steak salad or the 7oz chucks favorite . House dressing on the salad with green olives is a must .and the cobbler is good, go for the peach .
A good example of a Texas steak house. The fried pickles were cripsy, and really hit the spot dipped in a creamy ranch dressing. Pretty average dinner salad followed by a tender and juicy steak. Roomie and I split the steak and the Dr. Pepper chicken that was a little different, but worth trying again. This place was easily added to the list of places that I'll consider when I want a good steak.
Having been to Hoffbrau before and had an average experience, I was hugely disappointed with the experience at this location.
To keep it short, service was horrible in that we waited so long to get our appetizer (fried jalepenos), we seriously considered leaving, and I've never walked out of a place before if that says anything. And it wasn't even that busy at the time we went.
The food was average at best, and the dessert was a joke. When you order a cobbler, and you get two bites of bland cobbler, you're less than happy, especially after having already spent an hour and a half just waiting for fried pickles followed by a basic hamburger. I was just about ready to throw a wad of cash at the clueless waitress just to get the heck out of there.
On top of the long wait, poor service, poor portions, and mediocre food, the place was FREEZING. I'm not sure if perhaps they were just having an unstaffed off day, but the overall experience was incredibly unpleasant. Will NOT be returning, here nor any other location. This one killed Hoffbrau for me, and I don't really even have high expectations. Just bring my food in a reasonable amount of time and make sure it tastes good and is worth the money. This place failed on all levels, and I almost got sick to boot from the extremely overblowing A/C. Shuddering while I wait an hour for crappy food? No thanks.
