I love Dr. Hochberg!
Easy to get in - When I called to ask if he was taking new patients and could I make an appointement, they asked if I wanted to come the next day or the day after. And every time since, I've been able to make a same-day or next-day appointment.
Open - I am partial to taking a very scientific and medical view of my health care but at the same time, I appreciate a doctor who is in tune with the alternative community because I take it as a sign that s/he will be willing to let me contribute to my own care. Right up at the reception desk, the office has business cards for a couple of naturopaths and acupuncturists, and hanging next to his diplomas in one of the exam rooms is a commendation from Bastyr University.
Listens - will take the time to listen to all of your concerns, I've never felt rushed during an appointment.
Is aware that he doesn't know EVERYTHING - this is key to me...I have spent so much time educating myself to the best of my ability on current opinions/treatments/lab reference values/etc. for my primary health concerns that I have been very upset when I go to a doctor only to have them diagnose and treat me with out-of-date information while dismissing anything that I bring up. Dr. Hochberg tries to stay current but said during my first appointment that there was too much out there and too many things changing all the time for him to know all of it. He'll listen and look in to the things that you bring up AND, also important, he will refer you to a specialist or another dr. in the area that has more experience treating something if what he is trying isn't working for you.
Prompt - they call you back ASAP when they get lab results back AND, when I needed a renal ultrasound sooner than the week-and-a-half away appointment than I was able to schedule on my own at the radiologists, Dr. Hochberg's office had the u/s place call the tech at home in the evening to ask if she would be able to stay late the next day to add me on to the end of her schedule (which means the u/s place and tech get a star too :)
