Review from Chris M.
My updated review for Hoboken Pie is way overdue. They re-earned my business a while back, and since then I have visited them on several occasions and I must say these guys have gotten better. First off, the customer service has been consistently good and attentive. The guy who runs this place is very eager to please, and if they screw up he will reach out to you and fix it. Great customer service, they want you to make sure you have an enjoyable experience, and that always gets an extra star in my book. Their variety of pizza offerings has also turned me into a pizza-fickle-fu*ker. So many good options and combinations that I'd like to try, I have to keep coming back.
Not sure what it is, maybe it's something in the water that goes into their dough, but their pizza is pretty solid. I had their Margherita which was very good, full of flavor. The Torres (white pie w/ roasted garlic olive oil base, fresh Anjou pear, bacon, sundried tomatoes, spinach and gorgonzola cheese) was awesome, a different twist - it's unique and was like a pizza party in your mouth. A bit premium priced (IMO), but there's a lot of good ingredients and you can't find anything similar around town.
I like their thin crust, and they have a plethora of toppings to offer. For my next visit I've got to try The Mission (white pie w/ roasted garlic olive oil base; mission fig, brown sugar pineapple, prosciutto, goat cheese, mozzarella) which sounds so appetizing. The last outstanding fig pizza I had was in Boston at "Figs", and nothing has come close since so I'm curious to see how The Mission compares. I noticed on their website they have a "seasonal special pizza" w/ Sausage, Apple and Gruyere, that also sounds like a great combination.
I usually order their pizza on the weekends or for dinner during the week. I haven't been back for the 2am bar rush, but if I had to rank Hoboken Pie in regards to late night downtown pizza offerings I'd say they're in my Top 3. Those are the three I would focus on in my late night carb-inducing binge. I mean, if you're gonna chow down, why not make sure it tastes good?Listed in: My Best Pizza Experiences

Just to be short, and very succinct in this review since I've already hit this place 3 times so far...
The vegan pizza which is now on the menu is absolutely amazing. It's absolutely worth ordering, even for my fellow meat eaters out there.
I still love the fact that I can order deliver past midnight, as I'm rather nocturnal and it certainly helps when everything is closed and I'm stuck with work.

Keeping this one super short. This is my favorite pizza in Austin, I know that may be blasphemy for fans of other pizza spots, but Hoboken comes through time and time again with great food and a good value. I love the online ordering system too.
Location is perfect for some pizza after a show. If you have not yet, make sure to get some Hoboken pizza ASAP. Everything great about local business. -

I was expecting good, warm NY style pizza. What I got was cold and lacking cheese. It really tasted like re-heated, quickly made, cheap pizza. Odd, considering the price and the hour delivery time (I was less than half a mile away).
Maybe in house might be better, but me and my Jersey wife would not recommend this pizza. -

THANK YOu THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Everything tasted fantastic and the garlic rolls were made awesome this time! Nice Garlicy and sooo buttery!

Wow, I am shock. I am a picky pizza eater, and therefore I don't eat it often. My fav food truck was gone for Sunday night, so I turned to yelp to see what was open. I did not expect to walk into a pizza joint in Austin at 2:30 am on a Sunday night, sandwiched in between bars, and find one of the best pizza places I have ever eaten. And did I mention, the pieces were already sitting there by the slice? That surely had me thinking it would just be average. I've always heard those late night pizza-by-the-slice joints over on 6th St were mediocre at best. Luckily, I was over in the Red River district and stumbled upon this place.
I started with one slice, that had bacon, mushroom, and sausage on it. I devoured it instantly. Then, I went back and got the same thing, and had them add cherry tomatoes on top. Lastly, I wanted a piece to go, and they were out of pepperoni. So I went for the sausage, blue cheese, tomato instead. It was still delicious the next day on the train ride back home.
Remember, this was between 2:30 and 3 am, so if you go earlier you can order whatever you want and have it freshly made.
Just the right amount of cheese, sauce, and, most of all, crust. The cheese was flavorful, the sauce was bursting with flavor, and the crust was not heavy and filling. Heavy crust is a turn off for me, so I usually stick to thin crust. But this authentic NY style crust was perfect for a hand tossed pizza. This was authentic New York style pizza all the way around.
The pizza gods have spoken to me and I can't wait to eat this place next time I go back to Austin!
For late night pizza, this place deserves 6 STARS! -

Hands down, the best pizza you can buy. This is fresh, melt in your mouth, I-will-probably-devour-the-entire pie pizza. I always get the Mediterranean (kalamata olives, spinach, feta, and artichokes) and am always impressed with how fresh the toppings are. Quick delivery in the downtown area. You've never disappointment me, Hoboken!

Somehow I'm always happy to eat Hoboken, whether or not there's any room in my stomach for it. Nights out just aren't complete without one of their hot, well-sauced slices. Perfectly thin and fold-able, Hoboken pies capture the awesome delciousness of NY-style pizza, while somehow remaining non-embarrassing to eat in front of someone cute (no sauce squirts, cheese sliding off, topping falling messes).
My favorite pizza in Austin! -

I dropped my pizza on the floor inside Hoboken... then I picked that shit up and ate it. Maybe they should have given me a T-shirt or something but idc, it was worth it.
As far as NY pizza goes, I award Hoboken Pie the all around best in crust-to-sauce-to-cheese&texture ratio ever.
slap your mouth in the face and eat there. (I ripped that off of something) -
Review from Eve R.
Let me be clear: I love NY pizza. Authentic, original, no-frills NY pizza - the kind you get in NY, NJ, RI and Boston (maybe other places too, but that's where I've had it). I grew up on it. I love it. The kind with ample flavorful, slightly spicy sauce on a thin, soft crust, with ample greasy cheese - and possibly some good toppings. The kind you need to fold in half to eat. The kind that burns off the roof of your mouth when it comes out of the oven, but you don't care because you can't wait to take a bite. That's the pie I love.
Hoboken Pie is that pizza. I was recently in NYC, and this pizza is not appreciably different from the pizza I ate in Greenwich Village (OK, a little, but not a LOT). I don't care what it costs, it's still less than flying home to have it. But it's not badly overpriced, and apparently they have a KICKASS happy hour special (2-for-1 14" pies), which I plan to take advantage of very soon. Plus you have the great tattooed ambiance.
Oh - and they have Dublin Dr. Pepper on the soda fountain, along with several Maine Root varieties. HELLS YEAH!
I love this place. Yup. I do. I get it that not everyone loves ACTUAL NY STYLE PIZZA. But if you do, give this place a try.Comment from Jason D. of Hoboken Pie 6/6/2011

Wow. The owner, Jason, is wonderful. Let's just say he worked with me to make sure I'm happy after my latest update. He shines in the customer service department and I'm truly thankful! They are back in my good graces, for sure! There were some circumstances that overshadowed my good experience, but all is well and the pizza is delish! To date, it's my best friend's favorite pizza in town and she's from NJ too!

Ah, Hoboken.
Note that is review comes from someone who can and has ate pizza for over a week straight. I can't seem to get enough to no fault of anyone. It's relatively healthy, correct?
Back to Hoboken. It's decent. I have never had BAD pizza there. It's cheap, but with that in mind, it's also NOT filling. I usually eat two slices and am still a little hungry.
The best feature of Hoboken is there is never a wait and it's close to everything on Red River. It's my weekly go-to when I am working downtown or playing a show.
Overall, there is way better pizza out there in downtown, but for the dollar-value, it's a pretty good deal. My only advice is to ask for or wait for a fresh pie. Sometimes there are pizzas there that look like they have been sitting on the counter for over an hour or two. -

Dear Hoboken Pie,
Your Mission Pie is possibly one of the best pizzas I've ever shoved into my face. And I've never really been a huge advocate for white pizza.
(White pie, mission figs, goat cheese, prosciutto, brown sugar pineapple.)
However, the price to have a 14-inch Mission delivered to my door was (including tip) nearly $30. That is too much. It is a testament to the excellence of this pie that you still receive four stars.
Love,
Brittany
P.S. As to the other varieties - they're pretty good, but can be a touch too salty with crust a touch too chewy. East Side Pies, as a general rule of thumb, has my heart. But damn, that Mission. -

I have been raving about Hoboken Pie now for weeks. One day at lunch I was craving pizza and was lucky to find Hoboken Pie via my yelp iPhone app. I walked the few blocks from my office to the restaurant, and was very pleased to find what I now think is my favorite pizza place right now in Austin!
The pizza by the slice, straight out of the oven, is incredibly tasty. I have also had delivery but it was very expensive, although the quality did not deteriorate much.
Whatever you do, certainly try a cheese slice, or a slice without a lot of other toppings as the combination of their hot, thin crust, the thin layer of red sauce, and the hot, awesome cheese creates a flavor that I really have maybe only experienced in a slice of pizza maybe only one other time in my life!
My only "complaint" would be that it gets very hot in the shop during the day, as the pizza oven opens right up into the area where people are seated, but hey that's what happens with a small place...
Keep doing it, Hoboken Pie! I'm very excited to share the same city as you!Comment from Jason D. of Hoboken Pie 6/6/2011

I am on my way to see a show at Stubb's. My belly says, "I need food before we go see the band." But I think to myself, "It's only 6:30 and none of the food trucks are operable at this time." I notice that Hoboken Pie is open and serving slices. "That'll work." Walk in, grab a slice, pay a few bucks... grab a bunch of napkins so I can pat some of the copious amounts of grease off the slice. Shove pie into pie-hole. I am satisfied by the sustenance that I have consumed and now I have the energy to deal with the crowd at Stubb's. Thanks Hoboken... you give me the energy to flail around in the pit like a fool.
Pros: Great Location, Serving Slices All The Time, Cheap
Cons: Just Average Pizza, Very Very Greasy -
Review from Heather F.

A couple of months ago friends from out of town came to Austin for a bachelorette party on 6th St and at 2AM, when all the bars closed and everybody was well, you know, I dragged them several blocks all the way down to Hoboken off of Red River for pizza, passing about 10 pizza stands/trucks on the way. One of the friends almost gave up, shouting ahead to me as I was marching ahead of the group like General Lee's troops in the Battle of Gettysburg, "How much further do we have to go?". "It's just up ahead!" I yelled back, not stopping. We made it. And we ate some really yummy pizza.
One of the reasons why I like Hoboken is because it is located near all my favorite music joints such as Mohawk, Club DeVille, Headhunters, Beerland, Stubbs, ect. But Hoboken is also really yummy. This isn't gourmet pizza so don't expect some sort of over the top stuff you would actually eat in NYC or Jersey. But for late night pizza cravings downtown this is where I go. Yummy.Listed in: The Places I Go Out

I give this place 3.5 stars, but only for their freshly made pizzas. I've had the slices when they are sitting on the counter and reheated, those are a 2.5 in rating.
My friend Dan likes this place, so I have been here several times with him. He orders the spinach pizza, so it comes piping hot out of the oven. It tastes quite good this way. The crust is nice and thin. The sauce is tasty and the cheese is gooey.
I am a deep dish girl, but as far as thin crust in the city... Not bad. -

I've had a difficult time deciding how to exactly rate Hoboken. So, I'll break it down for ya - 5 stars for the best tasting pizza in Austin; 3 stars for the price
Taste: Great cracker crust. I tried the Torres and it was downright out of this world. The pear, PEAR!, is a delightful little taste combined with garlic, sun-dried tomatoes and Gorgonzola. Loved it! The other pizzas ordered for the carnivores looked great and everyone loved them, BUUUUUT it's pretty pricey.
Price: Each pizza has 8 slices. The size of the slices vary between a small, medium, and large. A large pizza runs anywhere between $20 for plain cheese (toppings are $2.00 - $3.00 each) and $25 for a specialty pizza which seems like a better buy. It may be me, but for delivery pizza this is a bit much. If I'm walking along a busy street and need a quick lunch, sure, I'll pay $3.00 a slice, or heck, if I somehow end up on dirty six I'll pay that much too. Will I choose to order for the home? Probably not. -

Not a bad place to get a great slice. During SXSW I was roaming the streets in search of something fatty to go with all the great free drinks that I was about to partake in. Hoboken Pie has that great Austin spirit, non-chain and very simplistic.
I decided to go for the Margarita Pizza. The price wasn't bad either, I noticed they made a special menu for the musical occasion so my pie was $3.75. Not sure what the regular price is. Little did I know that there was a hint of roasted garlic. Not sure if it was in the sauce or cheese but it was darn good. The crust was thin and it had that great grease factor I was looking for. All these lovely pizzas are made in a tiny little oven behind the counter. I was one of the lucky ones that got a slice straight out of the oven, there is something special about that oven. It was so good I had a second slice.
One thing is for sure I will make sure I don't wait to long to make another trip over because that pizza was pretty good. Oh by the way, cash is the preferred payment, they will charge you an extra fee for credit and debit cards. -
Review from April S.
I always come here for a slice before the Thursday Night Social Rides and it's a perfect way to fill my belly before riding all night. Great, thin, greasy pizza. Gotta fold it in half and eat over the plate to avoid dripping grease on yourself.
They get an extra star for having Dublin Dr. Pepper and a bunch of other natural sodas in the soda machine. AND they mixed it perfectly!!
This is definitely a hipster, Austin type of place, but it doesn't matter because the people who work here are cool and I like the pizza. Believe me, I have had MUCH worse pizza at many other places. I have enjoyed every slice I've had at Hoboken and the price is just right. -

With the ratty tables decorated with crumbs and the unisex bathroom door that only closes if you shove it with your shoulder, I wasn't expecting a good slice. But it was. Dark, tomatoey sauce, crispy thin crust. For $2.50, nothing not to like about the food. Even the T-shirts are cool. Ask for a plain slice and pretend you know what East Coast pizza's all about.

So slap me on the wrist, but I was "that girl" that used her groupon during sxsw.
Most other places would most likely have acted annoyed by the fact that we were trying to redeem our groupon during probably their busiest time of year, but alas Hoboken did not! They served us with a smile and as quickly as they could. They have something great going on there. Amazing location, Great staff, and wonderful pizza.
After a show over on Red River, this is definitely a croosh (short for crucial) spot to grab a bite!! -

Austin, TX
If you are going to a show or anything in the 7th/Red River area, make a stop over here. They have a nice variety of slices available all the time and it will be less than five minutes before you have that hot slice in your mouth. If you are lucky enough to be in their delivery area... it might cost more than the chain places but it is soooo much better, so just do it. I really liked the Greek salad I got with my Margherita, and the delivery was fast and friendly.

Review from Solomon W.

When I walk into a pizza place, I normally have a somewhat bored and inquisitive mindset: what kind of pizza will it be this time? Will it be traditional Neapolitan, soft chain crust (like Domino's), chewy (the sort of tolerable pizza you get at a place called Luigi's or Joey's), or faux-Chicago?
This time around, I was definitely not expecting Jersey-style pizza to be different than any of the aforementioned crust types. Oh man, was I in for a treat. I may have finally located my favorite Austin pizzeria.
Hoboken's crust is on the thin side, but the crust holds up to the rich sauce, and the bottom is slightly crispy. The hearty dusting of cornmeal on the bottom is also pretty radical. Another positive textural nuance: good pliability for folding.
On top of the unique and amazing crust, the toppings are top notch. The sauce to cheese ratio is spot on. The pork and poultry had bacon, jalapenos, cheddar, housemade BBQ sauce (AT A PIZZA JOINT!), fresh cilantro, and yes, poultry. Generally, I hate chicken on a pizza, as I never want to give an ode to "California food." This combo was right on, as the poultry provided a nice lightness to the rich pie.
The meatball pie was also very good.
Though prices are a bit steep, as the thin crust does not sit heavy, I was still very pleased with the meal. The 2 small pies cost upwards of $35. Ouch. Nonetheless, I left happy that I was able to fill my tummy with pizzas that are hard to rival, if merely for the fact that I do not think that there is a joint in Austin that could imitate Hoboken's pizzas. -

Just moved here from Philly, and being so close to New York you would think Philly would have decent enough pizza. I was there for 5 1/2 years and no joke I always ended up ordering from dominos because Philly pizza was to terrible. I saw Hoboken Pie on Yelp and decided to give it a try and it was so perfect. I eat pizza disgustingly frequently, and with their prices I don't see ordering from them being an everyday thing, but definitely a once a week thing. yum yum!

I have had pizza from HP a few times. First time was really good, each other time it went down. Last time, and will be the last time, the pie was not fully cooked in the center so made a great thin crust soft, mushy and really nasty/sloppy.. They are not flexible with substitutions off their specialty pizzas. For me, with so many too choose from, will not be ordering again.. Good Luck HP.

Houston, TX
The pizza is a perfect stop during a late night out on Red River. I ordered a slice of the supreme and the crust was thin and crunchy...the cheese was melty and there was a decent amount of toppings. Something about the sauce is a tad on the bitter side for me.
A week later we ordered their delivery. I like that they deliver to my house. My only complaint is that it is pretty expensive when ordering an entire pizza. We got the 18" with 2 toppings and it ended up costing $26 with tip...that's more expensive than homelice, which I would give them the nod for taste. The toppings are $2 a piece...for two dollars for mushrooms, i would expect more than a meager ration. This isn't the Oregan Trail, people!
That being said, It's definitely worth a try while out and about downtown. -

My favorite pizza in Austin comes from Homeslice and Little Deli.
That being said, sometimes I just can't muster up the energy to drive across town and deal with the crowds to pick one up. Hoboken Pie is the next best thing, and they deliver!
I tried my "old-stand-by" pepperoni with jalapenos as well as the Gamboa, which comes with Italian fennel sausage, artichoke hearts, perpperoncinis, mushrooms and oregano. Both were excellent, though my wife and I managed to kill the Gamboa first. Tasty, thin crust, just enough sauce, and fresh ingredients makes Hoboken my new go-to delivery place.
Order them before 5, and the 14 inchers are 2 for 1! -

best downtown pizza, in my opinion..
if you are on the late night-drunken prowl for a greasy slice, go here! I've tried too many other spots on 6th that I regretted up and down.. I can always count on hoboken though. The staff is friendly, they have boylans on fountain, there is a few tables inside to sit and chill, always clean and professional... and the slices are always hot and a good size I think for $3..
I am also a thick crust kinda gal, I don't think I'd drive out of my way to get here for pizza but if I am downtown already and that's what I'm craving, then yes!!!

Really. Good. Pizza.
Large slices, reasonable prices and super friendly staff. I got a slice with mushrooms, black olives and super gooey cheese that had just came out of the oven and I was in heaven. Loved the crust, too - had great flavor and held up nicely under all the toppings.
Already planning a return visit for the Mediterranean pie (spinach, feta, artichokes and kalamata olives). Vegan options, salads and sandwiches also available. They even deliver to my house which makes them my new favorite pizza joint IN THE WORLD. -

I was introduced to this place by one of the pharmacist I worked with, and it became my favorite pizza place in town. My friend and I always come here after having a few drinks at Bull McCabes next door. It is, hands down, the best pizza in Austin! Their Mediterranean pizza is amazing and the meats they use on their Butcher pizza are such a nice change from the usual meats that come on a all meat pizza. Even their single topping cheese pizza is great, and is leagues better than what you can find at any other Austin pizza restaurant.
So Hoboken Pie is a must have for Austin pizza lovers and I will be missing it when I'm living in Seattle. -

Jersey-inspired is right. That is some authentic east coast pizza, BUT it comes with the authentic, impatient, too cool east coast service. I'm in the service industry, too and if you choose to wait on someone a minute before your shift ends, that's your problem, don't make me feel like I have to order at mach speed.
On the bright side they have Dublin DP on fountain which is always a plus and the pizza was really good, albeit overpriced. -

I dig Hoboken! My girl and I moved to Austin from Boston a little over a year ago and I had a very difficult time finding a decent pie. Everybody and their mother told me to go to Home Slice.... went there a few times, and the pizza is pretty good but very overpriced and we always end up waiting over an hour for our food. Plus, they don't deliver!
Anyway, we finally stumbled upon Hoboken by way of a friend who was delivering for them. It's true northeast style pizza for a fair price and pretty quick delivery times! We order at least once a week, and sometimes stop in on Mondays or Tuesdays for their half price deal.
Highly recommended if you like good pizza.... if not go to Gatti's.Comment from Jason D. of Hoboken Pie 3/23/2011

I feel like Austin is a pretty good pizza town, and Hoboken holds its own right at the top. Yes, its downtown and for many is the light at the end of a drunken 2am tunnel. However!! The menu rocks and their delivery area is impressive, so really, why let the audiophiles have all the good eats?
My favorite the the Torres, a fancy-schmancy pizza that I have no shame in loving. It is bacon, pear, bleu cheese, sun-dried tomato goodness. I can't wait to try their new Fig-chevre-prosciutto and brie-ham-pineapple pies too. They're a little extra, but the ingredients are top-rate and I always get my money's worth.
