Hoboken Buzz Cuts (http://www.hobokenbuzz...) has two locations on Washington Street in Hoboken - one between 2nd Street and 3rd Street and one on 14th Street.  Buzz Cuts knows their clientele well -- young Hoboken residents -- who want style without spending a fortune.

The minimally decorated salon is located conveniently to the Hoboken PATH terminal -- as well as numerous bars -- and provides quick and inexpensive cuts and colors for men and women -- adults and kids -- to a buzzin' dance soundtrack (typically, 92.3 NOW FM or 103.5 WKTU) that keeps the hairstylists clippin' along throughout their day.  Buzz Cuts doesn't take appointments for cuts; you can make an appointment for color services.

I started going to Buzz Cuts when I moved to Jersey City about three years ago.  After a few disastrous hair experiences at local salons in Hoboken and Jersey City that left me looking like an extra from the opening title credits in Full Metal Jacket, a friend of mine from work recommended Buzz Cuts -- primarily for the attractive stylists, I believe.

Claudine, Porzia, and Gabby are the most experienced stylists on-staff at the downtown location.  Even though I've relocated almost 50 miles west of Hoboken, I've continued to go back to Claudine to cut my hair every four weeks.  She's been phenomenal -- friendly, consistent (providing a perfect cut every time), and accomodating (she's often stayed after the 8pm closing time to fit me in when I've called ahead to let her know I'm running late).

It's clear that Buzz Cuts doesn't offer the cachet or pampering treatment of a day spa on the east side of the Hudson River, but if you're looking for an inexpensive and quick haircut or color -- stop by Buzz Cuts, then spend the money you've saved to meet your friends for a drink at one of the many nearby watering holes to show off your new cut or color.

Terrible.

They are called Buzz Cuts for a reason.....

I have beautiful waist length hair that i have lightly layered and sculpted.  I just moved out here from Colorado, and am still facing sticker shock on some of the prices for living expenses, so I decided to do some of my own 'trimming' and took it off my hair cut budget. Baaaad idea.  I had a stylist at home that did just a wash and cut for $70, and I was never disappointed.  But Buzz Cuts - a different story.

On walking in the door I should have followed my instincts to turn and walk out - its straight 80's decor with X-mas lights and horrbile music.  The girl that did my cut was shorter, and i am pretty tall at 5'10''.  She didnt even pump the chair to raise me to a good level for a cut.  When she would pull my hair out (typically stylist do this at a 90 degree angle) she was never consistant with the angle she used, sometimes 90 sometimes 25 sometimes 50, you get the idea.  Then when she was done she asked how i liked it, but the mirror only came up to my shoulders, and hello - i have hair about two feet longer than that.  Her idea of 'texture' was random snips here and there.  Thank god I didnt ask for a shape touch up too but only a trim.

I will definitly never go back.

The only people that might benefit from this salon: those on their way into the military.  Get that buzz cut started early.

My first haircut out here on the east coast was great.  There were a lot of places in the area, but after reading a few (very old) reviews, I went to Buzz Cuts.  I was very happy with the cut, and it was 1/3 the price of what I'm used to in California.

I've been really wary of getting haircuts up here in NY, because I so desperately miss the woman who cut my hair for over ten years down in Miami. So when my friend suggested a place out by her in Hoboken, I figured I'd try it, because as much as I was unadventurous, I was also getting kind of unkempt. I could not have been happier, it's exactly what I wanted, if not better. While I don't know if I'll always go all the way out to Hoboken for a haircut, or whether I'll stay gutsy and keep looking around, I do know that I'm really happy with the cut I got. And twenty bucks? Can't beat that!
