    wow, I love this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ordered Gogi steak and my friend ordered Chilly Philly.
Also, we ordered two fries, onion and shrimp.

Gogi steak was little bit salty for me but it was really great because I like the taste of bulgogi which is Korean Traditional food. Also, I love Provolone Cheese !!!
Chilly Philly has fries inside!!  My friend couldn't even finish it because it was big for her. But she said that taste was awesome.

Oh and I have to say that my favorite food that I ordered was Shrimp Fries!!!
Before I ordered, I thought the shrimp would be small.
However, they gave big shrimps and I enjoyed !!
Also, onion fries was really good ! Crispy ! Crispy !!

After eating, we realized that we ordered too much because we couldn't finish our foods. They give take-out boxes, I brought them and ate at home again. Still good !

I want to go there again and try other steak too !! definitely with fries !! yeah !

Tried out Hoagie Steak Out for a late night bite to eat.  I had their Mushroom Friday and it was okay.  However, my Mushroom Friday was still stuck in Wednesday as it was running low on mushroom.  Grr!  I wish they could've chopped up the steak just a little bit more so I wouldn't be biting into chunks of beef.

I ordered it as a combo and their steak fries were served piping hot, which was nice.  But they hit my biggest hot button...charging for soda refills.  I'm sure I could've got away by mingling myself with the line of people waiting to order but I'm too honest to, "steal."  Whatever, they shouldn't be charging for refills anyways.

I don't know if I'd say I'd want to come back but, seeing that that Gogi cheesesteak on their menu is certainly making me think otherwise, we shall see!

I have to say that this is one of the best cheesesteak place I've been to. This place is located on the corner of San Pedro and 3rd st in downtown San Jose. My buddies and I decided to come here after a late night in DTSJ. This place was crowded when we got here but this place does is not that big.

I ordered the superman deluxe which contains  Steak, bell pepper, mushrooms, tomato sauce and Provolone cheese but I got mine without the provolone cheese. My friend got the 3pepper scarface and my other friend got the Half Bakoned and Fries with bacon and cheese. I must say when I took a bite of my Superman deluxe, it was like a party in mouth. Absolute heaven because I finished my sandwich so fast I didn't even know. My friend couldn't finish his Fries with bacon and nacho cheese and he told me to finish it. I gladly took it and finished it as well.

The service from the employees there was good. They were pretty chill and the nice. The cashier was not rushing my friends and I to take our order.

I would definitely come back for their sandwich. SUPER AWESOME!!!

I always pass this place when I go to La Vic's so I happened to be in the area and decided to get a cheesesteak. Came during I think around lunch hour and it was pretty empty.  I got the chilly philly, which was pretty good and had a generous amount of meat, chili and fries.  Prices are okay and so was the service.  I would come back to try the other cheesesteak sandwiches.

    BEST. PHILLY CHEESE STEAK. EVER!!!!!

This place is such a great place to go, especially if you have the late night munchies! They're open till 10pm on the weekdays and then till 3am on Friday and Saturday! AWESOME! This is the only place I go to for philly cheese steaks! I usually get the Rising Sun? It has mushrooms, a sunny side up egg, bell peppers, onions, mayo, and the steak; however, I kind of skip the bell peppers, onions, and mayo. Instead, I add on bacon! Any sandwich that has an egg dripping down is DELICIOUS! Here, they bring it out to you and it's just STEAMING the whole time you're eating! It's just so fresh and mouthwateringly GOOD! I also get a side of the thin cut fries with ranch! The sandwich itself is $8 and it comes with a drink. The fries are like 2 bucks? All that for like $10 is such a steal! Obviously, you'll be full, too!

The service is awesome! The people there are just so welcoming and friendly! This stuff is so yummy, I could eat it everyday! But I don't, of course! They also have fish and chips, and other things!

Beware of the crazy drunken clubbers that come out late at night. They can be a bit rowdy and whatnot.

Ok so I finally went here and enjoyed it! Luckily, there was nobody here eating. I noticed 2 guys chillin at the front porch, and saw me enter in. As I walked inside, the walls were orange and they had hundreds of photos of people and their fun times here at the hoagie house. One guy came right in the front and approached me and asked me what I wanted. I wanted to know their popular steak sandwiches so the guy responded in a confident tone; "Rocky Philly" and "Superman Delux". Being all aobut the originality and no kid play, I went and ordered the original rocky philly that has plain steak and American cheese.

I tend to have a fit on places that accept credit/debit cards only if you purchase a minimum of $10. It's lousy business and puts on a bad impression because people just want to buy one thing sometimes and not a whole damn meal. Whatev, the guy let me slide at $9. LOL.

The condiment bar had ketchup bottles and a jar full of red peppers that were soaked in vinegar base. It's a nice thing when they place is clean too.  Even the soda fountain machine wasn't sticky. The cook was chopping and doing his thing in the kitchen.

As I got my sandwich, there was a fair amount of steak in my roll with American cheese drooling off the meat. Fat fries on the side too. I didn't find the cheese steak to be all thaaat. It was pretty good. The meat was a bit dry and didn't even have a juicy texture to it. They didn't even use real cheese whiz on top :/ Real people know real Philly cheese-steaks and rib eye meat with cheese whiz together with a nice long roll is the way to only go. The rest...well they are just cheese on diced meat.

The price was ok and the taste was pretty good. I just thought that it was going to be a better and more authentic. I prefer St. Johns Bar & Grill for their cheese steaks still.

I came to Hoagie's one Thursday night to meet up with two other guys. I'd already had a pretty decent dinner, so I wasn't hungry at all. When I walked in and smelled the aroma, though, my mouth overruled my stomach and I ordered a Mushroom Friday.

When I picked up my order, I asked myself, "What are you doing? You're full. How are you going to eat this?" Then I took a bite, savored the flavor, and I kid you not, when I swallowed it, all the other food in my stomach seemed to shy away in embarrassment, well aware of their inadequacies. All of a sudden, there was room in my stomach again, I was hungry, and I finished the whole thing in no time.

As Arnold used to say, "I'll be back."

I think I waited a good long 4-5 minutes of while no one is here; there was no cook, no cashier, nor anyone! I could have easily stole a few of things just standing idlly in front of the cashier and they wouldn't even have noticed.

There were a few cometic changes I noticed with the building from the last time I visited, but they weren't really big changes.

After when they finally have noticed me, they took another minute to get ready. Then, I ordered the GodFather Hoagie (tomatoes, lettuce, and um cheese) and made it a meal (extra 2.50). The sandwich was pretty good, fries were your typical from frozen thicks, and a soda to wash it all down.
    -----
+ Pro: Decent philly cheese steaks.
    - Con: This visit was like waiting at the DMV.
(-_-) Overall: Decent food, but the waiting just added a negative star.

Good portion of food for the price. I had the mushroom with onions!
I love that they serve steak fries. The only 1 less star gripe I have is the parking sucks! I had to park @ jack-n-box and I felt nervous leaving it there since they post everywhere not to park unless you eat there. I would eat there again...in fact I already have.

BEST philly cheesesteaks ever!! This place is such a delicacy!!! It always gets me when around this area and I do not know what to choose b/c this is right next to La Vic's. Sometimes I just feel like being fat and think that I should just get both; a burrito and move on over here to get the best cheesesteaks EVER!!!!!!

This place is so cool. Just the menu itself is so cool. Oh, BTW when it's a late, late, after-the-clubs-just-got-out-late or weekend, this place does get as packed as a pack of sardines just as much as La Vic's does.

Just look at the steak menu.
    - Godfather Hoagie
    - Superman Deluxe is my personal fav b/c it has all the works including mushrooms, and I love mushrooms!
    - BBQ Guns!!! Oh. MY. Goodness. Hands down. If you want and love BBQ and want that juicy, tasty, rich, goodness, you gotta go for this. This is a personal fav of the guys I usually hang with. Also a popular choice for those who are drunk and have just got out of the lounges, bars, clubs.

So please try it out, just once - at least. Students get discount too.

Hm, I'm not sure if I'm being unfair with my rating.  Oh well, here we go:

I've gone here twice now.  I got the mushroom one and korean bbq one.  I don't know if it's just me, but any time a food is messy and it's a food you hold with your hands, it's a complete turnoff for me when it comes to eating.  I don't want to have to wipe my hands every time I pick up the thing.  Oh well, the second time I went I was wiser (the mushroom) and I used a fork and knife.  Maybe it's the style that they're going for, but I just can't stand messy fingerfoods.  It just feels gross, even though the food itself is pretty good.

The venue is pretty big, I can see quite a few people being able to go there, and I've noticed that they have a community board with pictures and things with customers posing for pictuers.  That's a cute idea I suppose.

Anwyay, for the environment and taste I'll give it three stars, but nothing more than that.  I seriously hate messy food.

The service at Hoagie Steak Out  was really good tonight. The man at the counter was friendly and helpful.  I brought my mother and she is super indecisive, which can be incredibly annoying. However, this guy was super nice to her.

My sandwich was good (great, if you consider the price) and my mother loved hers, thanks to the gentleman's good advice.

Yeah, the tables were sticky and there was a hobo smoking on the doorstep, but it's a block away from a college and in downtown San Jose.  I've seen worse and I'll definitely be going back for a cheese-steak fix.

Came here for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was a toss up between trying something new or the usual La Vic's (one of my favs). I had their Korean style Hoagie that came with mushrooms and onions, which was a nice change from the norm. The flavor of the meat was so yummy and it had just the right amount of everything! I'm not sure if it was a "special" or if it will permanently be on their menu, it was a new item and I hope its here to stay cause I will definitely be back soon!

When you're on the block that features the likes of popular San Jose eateries such as La Victoria's, Iguana's Burritozilla, and franchises like Ben & Jerry's, Pizza My Heart, and Jack in the Box, it's hard to really get attention.

Hoagie Steak Out is a pretty good hoagie place, and that's really all there is to it.  Nothing they have is really mouthwatering delicious.  They simply have food that'll fill you up at an okay price.  The Superman and Philly Cheesesteaks are the best things the have, but honestly -- I've had better Phillies at Quizno's Subs.

If there's anything awesome about this place, it's the fact that they have a cool college atmosphere.  Too bad they don't sell beer though.

Now that I know this place is right near La Vics and Iguanas and it's open late on weekends, I'm coming HERE for my drunchies instead of drenching sub-par Mexican food in orange sauce to make it taste good!

The ambiance is like that of La Vics/Iguanas--that is to say, nonexistent. It's basically a small house converted into a restaurant, with sticky tables, food served in red plastic baskets, and drunk people loitering outside.

But the food was great (and I wasn't even drunk when I had it). We got the Mushroom Friday: steak, mushrooms, and American cheese melted on a toasted roll with mayo and onions. Simple, but delicious. The cheese was nice and gooey and the bread was so soft (why can't they use this kind of bread for Viet sandwiches, instead of baguettes that cut your mouth??). The sauces they offer are nothing too special--the red one is just a run-of-the-mill hot sauce and the green has a jalapeno bite to it. But my leftovers tasted great re-toasted with some La Vics orange sauce!

They also have a few other hoagies on the menu that sound bomb: Superman Deluxe (steak, bell pepper, and mushrooms w/ tomato sauce & provolone), Half Bakoned (Mushroom Friday but w/ bacon instead of mushrooms), and Chicago Pepperoni (steak and pepperoni w/ tomato sauce & provolone). And fish & chips! I'll definitely have to go back to try more.

If I'm really craving for philly cheesesteak, I'll come here to get it! But if I'm tight on money, I won't. The sandwiches here are good but not for its price--it's way too expensive for a simple looking sandwich.

Prolly might be better if I came here for the munchies because I could care less. And if I was dying of hunger.

    Just straight up gross.

My younger brother says he's been coming here for years and says it's legit.  I shared the Godfather hoagie with my older bro.  The hoagie is huge! The meat was super thin and full of flavor.  It was about $6 - $7 and didn't include fries.  The fries are super thick and really potato-e if you love fries that way.  The staff was super nice and the food was made to order.  There's plenty of seating, but we took ours to go.

I came here on a cold winter day and the heater in this place was on full blast. I felt stuffy in the restaurant.. It was burning hot. My boyfriend felt uncomfortable enough to just want to leave. Well, we stayed. But that's not the point.

We both ordered the mushroom cheese steak. It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad. At least, I saw meat, mushrooms, and cheese? Very greasy though. The steak wasn't cut very thin so it was kind of ..chewy. I'm not sure how to describe it. Neither of us finished the sandwiches and had to box it up to go.

I had no idea that there was a stack of take-out boxes next to the soda fountain so I tapped the bell on the counter. I waited until the cashier came out. She came out with a smile until she realized it was just me again. Well, that kind of hurt. I asked her for a box and she just pointed at the stack. And I was just like "Oh." I don't know how I feel about such indifferent customer service. So let's just say, I've had better cheesesteak sandwiches. And better customer service.

Pros: Good not great food, close to SJSU, no lines
Cons: Bad service, the water tasted bad from the soda machine

This is a convenient location next to the SJSU campus. Good change up from the usual Mexican food and pizza. I had a pretty good tasting Hoagie, can't remember the exact name - had some bell peppers and got provolone.

Noticed they had Slush Puppies (which is like a Slurpee), which I haven;t had since I was young. Unfortunately, it was way too sweet, guess my taste buds don't like sugar-laced drinks like I used to.

Service was pretty bad. Clerk kept sitting down away from the front. Obviously couldn't care less about being there.

"Meh. I've experienced better." pretty much says it all.  I was not very impressed with this Hoagie, it was dry, has little cheese, the peppers didn't have any flavor. I was excited about trying this place, that excitement is now disappointment!

The cheese steak shop craps on this place, step it up hoagie steak out, you have a premiere location and a rad set up, if you turn it around... I am may come back.

Hoagie Steak Out is hit or miss for me. Sometimes I get a 5 star meal and other times I walk out without eating. When they get my order right and make it properly I'm super amped.

I have an allergy to onions and can't eat them so I always order mine without, several times they have forgotten to leave them off and then given me attitude when I asked for a new sandwich.

My favorite from the menu is the Chicago Pepperoni because it's spicy and super filling. I love pepperoni so it wins extra bonus points strictly because the pepperoni is always good.

Overall, not as good as Buster's in SF but it'll serve as my Cheesesteak place while I'm still in San Jose.

Like the rating states, this place was A-OK, but I've definitely been to places that are better.

I got the philly cheese steak with bacon. The meat and bacon was pretty good. Very flavorful, but I didn't like that the cheese was just a slice of American cheese and the bread was too soft for my liking. If they had used better cheese and toasted the bread, it would have been much better.

Decent place to go if you're near campus and looking for a bite to eat, but I wouldn't go regularly.

completely awful service.   I went to this place to grab a sandwich just before going to a show at San Jose State, so we had limited time available. It was about 5 pm and I know it was busy, but still I was not prepared for what happened.  I ordered a non-steak sandwich, the Turkey Royale.   I know that they are known for their cheesesteak sandwiches so maybe they didn't have the ingredients for the turkey as readily available?  but still, having to wait over 35 minutes for a sandwich is ridiculous.   I checked in at 15 minutes and they said they were still working on it.  Meanwhile I saw customers who ordered after me get their sandwiches, finish their sandwiches, and then leave.  For me, if they are going to offer a variety of items, then they should be able to provide those items at a reasonable time.   oh, and when I finally got the sandwich, the meat was cold and the sandwich was bland.   I won't be coming back, and neither should you.   This place is overrated and overpriced and the customer service sucks.   Also the bathroom (only one!) had a broken lock and was filthy.  A bad experience all around.

A Philly steak made with American cheese. A different take, but it still worked. Not the best that I have had, but it's doable. The dining area is SMALL. I can't imagine what it's like during busy time. Pro: it's open until 3 am on Saturday and one sandwich for $6 can feed two people.  I'll try their spicy bulgogi sandwich next, but it won't be for a while since the Philly caused me another hour at the gym...I have such little will power.

Literally stumbled into this place after getting sloshed with some friends at singlebarrel.  Didn't really know what to expect and probably ordered the wrong thing but didn't really care at the time.  I believe I ordered the regular rocky philly cheesesteak, which is really what is place is supposed to be known for... or not.  It took forever to get the food around 1am or so, and the place wasn't even slammed with orders yet.

I finally got it and it was just ok...  I really griped about how I should have ordered the Teriyaki Samurai which has many other ingredients like mushrooms, lettuce, and teriyaki sauce.  Eh, I suppose I can try that next time I get the chance to eat here.  Which might not be anytime soon.  Felt like the place needed to get their service straightened out during late nights.

I think we made the mistake of coming here at 1am, on a Thursday. This place was filled with a bunch of drunktards, and of course, I'm not holding this place accountable for that. However, what I would hold this place accountable for is their overall "cleanliness". There were spills, countertops were not wiped down, tables not cleared, seats were placed everywhere and blocking the walkway and the line to the cash register. It was disgusting.

We got to the counter and I ordered the roast beef(hot). We walked through the jungle and found a table that had trash all over it. I wrapped the clean napkins around my hand to wipe down the table. Ugh. My brother and I only ate half of our sandwiches, it was average tasting but just the atmosphere made it just a tad less appetizing.

Their 3 pepper steak sandwich is insane! it truly has a nice kick and with the steak, cheese and oils... GEEEZUS! Throw in an order of their bacon cheese fries and you are good to go!  Good place to grab a bite that will fill you up till the next decade! :)

Overall, nothing out of the ordinary.  Nothing too good, but nothing too bad!

It was a late night. Was really hungry and decided to give this place a try. Been awhile since I had a cheese steak style sandwich. I guess I went on a good night, not too crowded. Got the 3 -pepper steak sandwich and it was spicey hot. Lot's of peppers. Good, solid cheese steak sandwich, no complaints. Bread was actually really fresh. This is a typical college type joint so I wasn't expecting much in terms of service.  Overall, good place for a late night chowdown. Weekends, this place get's very busy...again typical for a late night college grub hub.

I haven't actually been to other Cheesesteak place so I can't compare to another place like other people.
Howveer for what I got, I liked it.
After watching a play at SJSU, I went to get a late night dinner. Wanted to try something new so I went to the Hoagie Steak Out. First thing I saw was pictures of people eating Cheesesteak everwhere
That's got to be a good sign.
I ordered the Godfather Hoagie and got it in about 5-7 ish minutes.
I went outside to eat it and dear god, it was good. Perhaps I was just really hungry since I hadn't eaten dinner yet, but it was just divne. Definitely worth the $6. Of course, I wouldn't go here to often because this stuff rakcs up calories, but If you're feeling it, it's worth it

When it comes to Cheese steaks, Im not very picky. So Hoagies Steak Out is a perfect spot. They make it just right. To me, as long as the meat is not dry, there's enough cheese, peppers, onions and good bread, its okay in my book.

They have a wide variety of cheese steaks to choose from. Some have lots of peppers and mushrooms, some have tons of different types of cheese in it. In the end, its a fat, full of meat, peppers, onions and cheese at reasonable prices.

If you are craving something yummy, just go somewhere else.  It wasn't that crowded and people were waiting around frumpy, hungry, and upset because it was taking WAYYY TOO Long to make some food.  I was there 20 min and my friend got his food before me and BEFORE OTHER PEOPLE who ordered?????WTF........

They were getting everything mixed up and waiting that long with the key locked in the bathroom, you'd have to stand upside down on one hand trying not to pee your pants waiting.  The cashier was wayy too rude and unaccomodating.  After 25min I asked for a refund.  I got a free soda out of it and my friend got to eat.  The guy who was complaining got a couple extra fries for his fussiness??? What the heck kind of service is that.

This place is way to wacky and upside down for me.

Don't be deceive by my decision to give 3 stars. I continuously come here because the food is great. Juicy meat, soft bread, big portions, and a chilled out atmosphere. But honestly,

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET A PICTURE TAKEN?? haha no I am kidding, that is not why I docked 2 stars, but hint hint Mr. Hoagie Steak Out, you could have gotten brownie points if you offered!

The reason why I docked 2 stars is because on 2 separate occasions, the cashier lassoed me into upgrading to a meal, gave me the cup for a fountain drink, lets me pound the machine like a barbarian ape because nothings coming out, then says "Oh yeah its broken". Ohhh kelly clarkson! I was more along the lines of emo the first time, but the second time I was pretty irritated.

So, heed my warning, before the sound of french fries and an ice cold soda seduces you, make a quick check to make sure the soda machine works. I usually forget about it once my sandwich comes out though.

As cheese steak goes, probably one of the better ones in the county.  The steak is peppered and no matter which type of Philly you choose, it's always going to be good. Even their pastrami is pretty well done.

Fries can be added to the cheese steak for $0.90.  So in general a pretty good deal.  A meal here usually doesn't exceed $10.

Two stars seems a little harsh - but this is definitely not a three star restaurant - so I am doing the best with the tools Yelp gives me.

People think the cheese steak is easy ... heat + beef + cheese (maybe onions and green peppers). If you grew up in an area where good cheese steak is the norm (I am looking at you Philadelphia and Chicago)  then this would be a good learning experience - it isn't as easy as it seems. The Hoagie Steak Out has all the ingredients, but the end result is a little dull. If you are gonna name your restaurant after a sandwich, you'd better be ready to make that sandwich VERY good.
