Good food, large portions. Their lunch specials are less that $5 and come with a spring roll and soup. Quite a good deal.
wow... so many jokes came out of this place's name. i've been coming here since High School- after school dances or the club. the food is consistently average- nothing stands out too much except for the Peking Duck. (which i don't consume)
the dancing sea creatures in the water tanks scare the crap out of me. i don't dislike this place- but i'm not dazzled by it. i'd rather dine at the other establishments across the street.

I have a love-hate relationship with Ho Ho. I truly like the food, the jelly fish appetizer is the best jelly fish in town. The Peking duck is to die for. When the live shrimp season starts we usually end up there more often as my wife cannot get enough of live shrimp. As HO HO has remodeled in the last couple of years, even the interior is now decent. Gone are the dust covered pink flamingos and other hideous stuffed animals. The only reason why I cannot bring myself to go back more often is the overly friendly owner. I guess she cannot help it but I still cringe when the tilapia dish being served is advertised as " I picked the best fish for you". The problem was there was only one fish left in the tank so of course it was the best fish. The same thing with the last open table we got once.: "I picked you a very nice table!"

I've been to Ho Ho off and on throughout the years. This review will be based off of my most two distinct memories of the place.
The first time, I was with a buddy on the way to a Sonics game. We order about 4 dishes and rice. The waiter comes back with a sad look on his face and tells us that they've run out of white rice and will substitute fried rice instead at no additional charge. WHAT?!! What type of chinese restaurant runs out of white rice? Minus one star!
Second time is going with a friend of the family in a big party. She orders this funky dish with lots of shrimp sauce. For those of you that do not know what this is, it's fermented shrimp. YOW! You think fish sauce smells! KAPOW, KA-PING! No Mo appetite. Minus another star.
Oh, and to top it off, a steamed fish dish comes that I swear is tilapia. The woman across me scarfs it down and exclaims it is the best rock cod she's had in years and that restaurants hardly serve it anymore. I pipe up and say it tastes kind of muddy, I think it's tilapia. The waitress comes out and I ask her what it is. She says it's "chinese cod". The woman across from me bolts out of her chair and says, "See, I know what I'm talking about!". I ask the waitress, "Chinese cod? I've never heard of that before." She says, "Oh, most people call it tilapia."
Yeah, baby!

Where do you go when you want Chinese food at midnight? The International District or the University District. After much debate, a couple on our team went down to the ID and ended up at Ho Ho. So much for getting food close to work!
So we got take out - can't make any comments on dine in - and no one would share so I only got to taste what I ordered and hear comments.
I had a craving for Mu Shu Pork. It was 9.95 and sounded standard price. When it came, there were 4 Peking doilies (pancakes) which is pretty standard, plum sauce and a ton of Mu Shu Pork. I could only stuff half of it in the 4 Peking doilies. It was tasty, not the most flavorful that I have ever had, but definitely tasty. More like a homemade taste then the standard restaurant fare I have had.
One guy got the Beef Brisket and asked for Spicy and said it wasn't - I don't know with him, he is Thai and it could have been exuding flames and still not been spicy in his book. But, I knocked it down a star for that.
It sounds interesting and I definitely have it on my list of places to try in person and then we can adjust the stars accordingly.

When you enter the Ho Ho, do yourself a favor and keep your eyes fixed forward, because if you glance to your left, you'll have night terrors for weeks. It's a fairly common Chinese restaurant sight at first, a big tank full of crabs. That's fine. But reigning over all the crabs is the monstrous abomination that is the Alaskan king crab. I had never seen one of these alive before. It looks like something out of War of the Worlds, huge and armored with giant mecha-legs. I couldn't stop staring, and I think it looked at me. . . .
Oh, the food? Once I got out of range of the destroyer-crab, our meal was delicious. The Peking duck is definately a must, as is the fried rock cod. And we had a salt and pepper fried crab dish that was sweet, succulent, and only kind of brought back the image of the murderous crab beast to my mind. If you want delectible, authentic Chinese seafood and something to terrify the kiddies, Ho Ho is perfect.

tried the honey walnut shrimp - blech.
they were out of crab - boo.
order a nasty fried fish dish - double yuck.
but they served us lighting fast - should have been suspicious.
don't come here if you are looking for good chinese food. stay away!

I've eaten here before and thought it was pretty good. But then I ate here again over the weekend and it was pretty damn good. Ho Ho is one of the authentics of Chinatown and they seemed to have gotten better in taste and service.
Try these dishes while you're there:
Duck and rice noodle soup (you won't be disappointed)
Salt and Pepper chicken wings (one place that does it right)
Beef chow fun (staple noodle dish)

Had a good meal with family here about two weeks ago. Very good experience, though we sat in the smaller room on the left, where some of the staff were eating (and talking very loudly).
I wasn't expecting it to be this good but almost every dish was excellent including the long green beans in garlic sauce, the crispy skin chicken, mussels).
Not a cavernous restaurant, as some of the Chinese restaurants in the ID tend to be (think China Gate or House of Hong).
Very reasonably priced, high quality.

Ho Ho, indeed! I've eaten here twice and had really good food. Probably the best chinese food I've had, in fact. Really fresh food, and piping just-out-of-the-wok hot! Both times I've been there it's been virtually empty, which means service and food were lightening fast. I was just there this weekend and the stand out dish was the honey walnut crispy prawns, or something along those lines. IT WAS SO GOOD! Bring your entertainment coupon for one free dish!
