Everything about this store is as cool as the retro rockabily vibe that greets you the moment you walk into the store. Great brands, really good selection of new merchandise, fun accessories, the prices totally rock. Nikki and company are always pleasant - even if you walk in right before close - as I often do (working Mom - gotta fit in shopping when I can!). I really appreciate that they support other small businesses by carrying their mechandise in their store.
I do wish that new merch would be separated from consignment - although, yes, in theory I understand why it is all racked together....
Hissyfits is a rad little shop for outfitting short people with personality. The store offers a solid mix of sweet, cutesy stuff that would make my mom swoon and the punky, tongue-in-cheek stuff I favor for the imps in my life.
We picked up a skull & crossbones onesie and a pink fur diaper cover for some friends' brand new baby and an impulse dinosaur raincoat for another friend's preschooler. Almost as awesome as our punkily adorable finds was the price--the grand total was around fifteen bucks.
I was a little disappointed on first impression but ended up being pleased. The shop seems cluttered, especially the furniture area in the back. We didn't get any help (but didn't ask for any.) The gal ringing us up was a little standoffish but not unpleasant.
However, the prices are awesome and the product selection is really fun. Lots of cute clothes and I liked the funky attitude reflected in the decor. I'll be back to give them another shot!
I received an invitation via email to attend their winter sale which was to go through Friday. When I went in on Friday (bringing a friend in with me who was appalled) the women working there acted like it was an inconvenience that we were there. I looked at another rack besides the sale rack and was barked at that "those items are not for sale yet, no one can look at them yet!"
Really, what is wrong with these women? Why were they so rude? They have good stuff, but you have to put up with meanness to get it. Go to Goodwill or shop on eBay and you'll get as good stuff for the price plus people who appreciate your business!
******UPDATE******
I went back to give it another shot and they were nice. Maybe they had a stressful day, or something that day.
LOVE~ LOVE~LOVE HISSYFITS!!!! Cute store, cute staff, cute clothes! Everything is completely affordable, even on a tight budget. It is the best resale childrens store that I have ever seen! I tell everyone I know about this store!
That other woman said she was treated rudely, I am SHOCKED to hear that and almost cant believe it, I have never been treated with anything but kindness in that store, in fact the entire place has a happy, zen energy about it!
I say, check it out if your pregnant, a mom, or you know some one who is either! :0)
Hissyfits is a fun shop, always has something new to look at or look for. Their prices are terrific - you will not find a better deal in town if you are looking for something different. Want something special or unusual to take to your next mandatory baby shower appearance? Here's your place to go. The staff WANT to be there (its usually the owner, Nikki, so you KNOW she wants to help you!) Its just a fun shop.
P.S. Are you like me with a child ADDICTED to those darn Webkins? Best. Deal. In. Town. PERIOD. Trust me...just don't go and buy them all out from under us - or you will have some 'splaining to do to a very upset 9 year old!! ;0)
ok...iam a freakin resale junkie..i have been to them all..and I mean all of them...Hissyfits was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stinky market. Hissyfits is different in kids used clothing, I have never seen anything like it. The girls who work there are so friendly. They offered to carry out my merchandise and even put me on their wish list when they didnt have a specific item I was in search of. Their prices are right on target. Not too high and what you would expect to pay for high end designer kids clothing. I found Juicy couture Da Nang Flowers by Zoe True religion Ugg boots and so much more!!!! This is a bargain hunters paradise.
I must add that the music was rockin and the place is decorated in a shabby punk like style.
THanks to Hissyfits for making kids resale fun!!!
LOVE this place - and I don't have kids!
As a non-mom, I am constantly finding myself out shopping for family and friends who have children even though I don't really know what to buy. Since Hissyfits opened, I have had a much easier time of things. Baby showers and children's birthday parties have been made a thousand times easier because I know I can stop by Hissyfits and will be able to find something fun and funky that folks in my social circle will enjoy (and I will usually be able to get a great deal on it!)
The staff is super-friendly and helpful, even when they are busy going through the boxes of merchandise it seems are always coming in. I have brought mom-friends to shop there and I always hear from them that they "just had to go back" because they found such a great (outfit, toy, pair of shoes, etc.) for their little ones. Really, Hissyfits is just a great place to shop!
hissyfits has the best selection of funky and unique clothes for kids at reasonable prices. I wish their consignment resale policy were more like kid to kid, but its the best place to shop by far.
After reading all the craziness going back and forth between reviewers due to children's clothing, I decided to step into this place myself (being an auntie of 3 boys all under a year). I work very close and on a lunch break decided to see what I might be able to score within a 45 minute period. I'm not the pickiest person. The only reason for not giving 5 stars was due to the fact that I wasn't greeted or checked on like the other customers. No big. I found the selection to be unique and fun! With 30.00 I was able to buy 6 super cool stylin' items. They had a sign announcing 50% off on tags with stars punched into them. Unlike other stores where finding a sale is like searching for your contact lens in a car at night, there were lots of little outfits on sale. The atmosphere made me feel like I was in a sort of Buffalo Exchange for adults. So your options are Wal-Mart and Winnie the Pooh or a onesie with Frankenstein staring back at you. You gotta try it. I was quite impressed!
My daughter (Ocean, age 4) and I have a reward system going. When she earns all her stickers she gets to pick a place to go shop for 1 thing. She has chosen Hissyfits 4 out of the 5 times so far.
They have a book shelf that's NOT full of only Barbie and princess crap. Ocean chooses toys like binoculars and books that aren't typically highlighted in average toy stores. She also is able to play with some of the things while I do the clothes shopping.
The clothing at Hissyfits is the coolest. We get stopped when out and about to ask about her skull skirts and flamingo shoes.
And the maternity stuff makes me want to get myself knock up!! haha
From the second I walk in the door I am greeted with a smile and so is Ocean. The super friendly and funny staff talk to us and make suggestions based on our past purchases an my kid's personality.
The shop is ALWAYS having additional sales here and there and they now have a stamp card. But even without the sales, the prices are very reasonable. We got a pair of ridiculously cute pajamas that retail at 95 bucks *gag* for less than 15.
Target's children's section has suffered a great loss since Hissyfits opened. (speculation)
This store has a true community feeling, very welcoming. I would make the drive to Hissyfits even if I didn't live right around the corner! Hooray, Hissyfits!!
Pretty popular place. Nice and stuff not too worn, almost looks new.
I saw an ad for Hissyfits in one of those little free booklets. The ad made me want to hop in my car and drive all the way from Surprise to Phoenix. I pride myself in putting my daughter in upscale clothes but I have NEVER paid full price for any of it. I am a consignment store freak and I also love craigslist. The add boasted "upscale and trendy" clothes. I guess my expectations were way to high but all of my expectations were based on their advertisement. First of all the place was a disaster. Beneath the mess I could see that when they first opened they decorated it well. It is now very obvious that they are having some major organization issues. You have to practically climb over boxes to get around and dont even get me started on the furniture area, it was so trashed I didnt even attempt to look back there. The selection of clothes is not bad but it is definitely not what they advertise. It is a normal resale selection of clothes from Old Navy and some department store brands. I would not use the word upscale when describing the selection. There was no one in the store when we arrived and the women at the front didnt even look up to acknowledge us, that kinda bugged me too. I suppose if I hadnt seen the advertisement that made it sound really wonderful I would say this shop is ok. It is definitely not worth a drive from Surprise.
what an adorable little store! i am addicted stores like these...and i love their selection. everything has a little bit of a punk rock edge and i'm all for that. i love that they update their myspace profile to show what's new or what just came in. really saves me the trip in. i will be frequenting this store as my new little one enters the world and starts to grow. love the selection on vans too!!!
