Not the best BBQ I've ever had, but its still pretty damn good.
Honestly, I can't say I've had any bad experiences here.
Pros: ALL homemade.
Cons: A little pricey for me but you get your money's worth. Also, the drive-thru sometimes can be SO SLOW.. so go inside to order. -

Tasty Ribs and Sides!
I was in Sealy on business for the better part of a week. I ventured into Hinze's since it was right next door to my hotel, and also because being from Massachusetts, I never pass an opportunity to try some southern BBQ!
I ordered up a pound of ribs and 3 sides, along with some sweet tea. The ribs were nice and big, with plenty of tender meat on them. My sides of mashed potatoes, green beans, and potato salad were also very good.
This spot was good enough that I went back a 2nd time and ordered up the exact same meal!
If I'm ever in Sealy again I'll look forward to returning to Hinze's! -

Good bbq. Not as smokey as i like. Plenty of sides that are well made. Cucumber salad, dirty rice, bacon cheddar tators, etc. Fast counter service. No long waits. Easy access from I-10.

I'm one of them Austin city-boy BBQ elitists who seeks out tasty brisket anywhere and everywhere, especially on long and short road trips. After a journey to Galveston I stopped in to Hinze's to get a snack. The previous entries on Yelp indicated I'd be in for a treat. Here's what I got:
* mega-lean and untasty sliced beef. Really not very good, I don't get the love on this page.
* uninspiring and uninterested sausage.
* I ordered cream corn. I got corn out of a can.
* I know instant mashed potatoes, and those were instant mashed potatoes.
Blegh. Crap. Some of the worst BBQ I've had in the last couple of years. This is after-church food for the locals in Sealy. If you go, don't expect much.
POSITIVES: Some of their desserts looked pretty good. Also, the prices are pretty reasonable.
What made me saddest was to pass by a half dozen neat looking BBQ spots on the rest of my way back to Austin. I'll know to be a touch more critical next time I drop in somewhere. -

I lived in Sealy between August 1999 and June 2002. I taught at Sealy HS during the 99-00 school year. Being new to town, I grew to love Hinze's BBQ.
Sometimes when driving down from Dallas (sometimes I detour thru Waco and down to Sealy) to Houston... I will just have to stop and get a burger here. Their burgers are awesome.
Pies are wonderful... but I think my favorite thing at Hinze's was the potato salad. -

Very solid bbq.
Tried the ribs, sausage, pork and brisket...all were pretty good; nothing was amazing but solid across the board.
Sauce was good, I enjoyed it.
Sides were pretty good as well which is rare around here for BBQ places.
1 reg plate with 3 sides is $8.79, more than enough food for one person. -

It's dark. It's dated. It's delicious!
Hinze's is a welcome alternative to the ho-hum fast food offerings that pepper I-10 between Houston and San Antonio (a route I am all too familiar with), but this is no place for primadonnas. I've seen more than a few raised eyebrows from the locals when travelers get uppity with the counter staff. Check your citified ways at the door because this paper towel establishment does not cater to the cloth napkin set.
Hinze's uses pecan wood which gives their meats an entirely different flavor than mesquite. In addition to the standard smoked offerings (beef, sausage, chicken, turkey), you can also choose from an assortment of deep fried delectables, sandwiches, and burgers. Round out your meal with a couple of their homey side dishes and a selection from their array of fresh baked goods. Just be careful if you're on the road - Hinze's is a well known food coma inducer! -

My parents and I stop at this place everytime we head to Spring, TX (outside Houston) to visit my bro/sis-in-law/nephew. We either stop on the way there, or on the way home to San Antonio. I almost always order up the sausage with potato salad, and beans and LOVE it everytime!
They have several choices of plates (some with 1, 2, or 3 meats... and various number of sides). Their homemade bread is pretty good (although, I could do without the smokey flavor it takes on from the BBQ). It's their BBQ sauce that gets me every time.... it's got a sweet after taste to it, but has a lot of pepper and seasoning to it. YUMMY.
I'm deducting one star because one time we opted to go through the drivethru and eat on the road... which turned out to be a bad decision for a couple reasons... I got a cheese burger and onion rings (which didn't seem homemade, but rather like frozen ones)... the second reason was we sat there waiting at the window for our order for nearly 20 minutes. Luckily we're pretty good sports and joked about how we expected to see them slaughtering the cow behind us in the back of the parking lot. But everytime we've gone in to eat we have a great experience!

I just had to add something. I got the sausage sandwich... and can I just say it was the most delicious bbq sandwich I have EVER eaten!!! EVER! -

I gave it five stars because of the incredible pork and ribs. The vegetables, and they serve quite a few, might respond to improved recipes, for example the string beans are strangely bright green. What is that all about? I've been cooking and eating for years and never seen that green except on a snow cone. You get one slice of white bread for dipping in their surprisingly good BBQ sauce, a sauce that could enjoy a better bread, thats all well and good, but don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, I love this place.... and I always get a double order of the pork. It is succulent. This restaurant is the only good thing about the boring drive between Houston and Austin. I wish my wife liked BBQ more!

After spending multiple business trips to Sealy for work, I can honestly say that I think there has not been a time that I did not eat at Hinze's. Hinze's has good BBQ that is relatively quick. I normally get either the loaded potatoes (I like chicken better) or a 2 meat plate. I have been there both in a small group and in a large one where we took up half of the restaurant. It is good quick BBQ. Not too sure I could handle eating it more then 2 times in a 5 day business trip though.
