I've been meaning to write a review for a while. Since we bought our house a few months ago Mark and his crew have done a few projects for us of various sizes. First it was running/moving some gas lines, then foundation work and most recently a bathroom remodel.
On each project Mark worked on for us he was extremely courteous and forthright as was his crew. The work has been top notch and what really earns Mark an "A+" is that he goes the extra mile with everything he touches. He does things the right way, the way that he'd want them done for himself even if it means extra work.
We initial hired Mark because of his great Yelp reviews and everything has been as good for us as for the others. For first time home owners, Mark has been a real god send.
In short - if you are looking for a dependable, qualified, courteous contractor Hinkle Construction is your answer. -

Great contractor team to work with. Mark came by and explained everything that needed to be done. The estimate came back reasonable and thorough.
The only drawback is because Mark and his team are so good at what they do, they are quite busy hence it took some time to schedule the job. I was not in a rush so it was not an issue for me.
Jackie Hinkle who does a lot of the front office is a wonderful and very friendly person. She is very good at communicating via email and by phone. If there was a question, Jackie would answer it the same day (unless it was after hours then next working day).
The work done by Mark and his crew was top notch. Mark came by and explained what needed to be done and kicked off the job. The project leader then took over. The job was done on time and in the manner that was described by Mark. A very professional experience. -

Mark and his team completely remodeled our bathroom and did a fantastic job. Mark is very thorough and concientious and made sure that the work was done on time and on budget. His attention to detail is amazing...he noticed things that I would have never dreamed of and helped prevent me from making some bad decisions. His workers tried extra hard to work around my father who had just gotten home from a major operation. They were very respectful and did beautiful work.
Hinkle is definitely not the cheapest company, but they really know what they're doing and are worth every penny. We had trouble with one of the vendors I chose so Mark went out of his way to find someone to improve the quality of the material I bought.
I can't wait until the team starts ouf next project! -

I had water damage under my tiled floor around my bathroom shower, and a termite company bid just under $15,000 to repair it. The breakdown was $9,000 to replace the shower, and $6,000 to replace the floor. I have a somewhat large yet modest bathroom and knew the estimate was reckless and irresponsible, but it was disconcerting nonetheless.
I decided to look for a general contractor, and it took two tries. I found the first one through a local bathroom showroom/store. After looking at the floor, he concluded I needed to replace the shower and the walls. The bid was for $5,000 (labor only) but the details of it made no sense to me, and after trying to clarify, I let it go.
I then found Hinkle Construction on Yelp. Mark looked at my like-new house and figured the water damage was a fairly small repair job, not a major overhaul. But the only way to know for sure was to start cutting out the rotten wood and see how far it went. I gave the okay to attack the floor, and sure enough, the damage didn't go very far.
An important factor here was Mark having the right attitude. He strongly felt (as I did) that redoing the whole tile floor would be a tremendous and unnecessary waste, and not just a waste of money but an unconscionable waste of materials. He sawed the tile out of the floor and was able to clean up and reuse key pieces.
He cut open the wall on the backside of the shower to look for damage. There was none. Whereas others wanted to rip out the shower and replace it no questions asked, Mark cut open the back of the wall to prove that I didn't need to replace the shower.
He then fixed everything back up like new. Grand total: under $2,000. But this wasn't a simple case of being relatively low cost. It was doing what needed to be done, no holds barred, and it still ended being relatively low cost.
Still, I'd like to give fractionally less than five stars. The floor repair would have been (and could have been) perfect, except for one thing. There's a very subtle but perceptible pattern in the tile, but the tile installer apparently didn't notice it. Two tiles were installed at 90 degrees with respect to the other tiles on the floor. If you know to look for it, you can see it. -

Mark is a great guy and his guys do very good work. He helped us transform a bathroom from hell. Mark may not be the cheapest but you get what you pay for. If you are a person who likes the following: A contractor that actually calls you back and follows up; A Contractor that actually drives the project and ties up all loose ends; A Contractor that keeps you informed each step of the way; then Hinkle Construction is a great choice.

We called Mark at Hinkle Construction to fix some foundation problems at the house we just purchased. We were really worried as "foundation problems" normally mean spending a lot of money, but Mark explained everything completely. He broke it down into what needs to get done, what should be done, and could be done. When he and his team were here, they were extremely professional. Arrived on time, and laid down ground cover all the way from the front door to the back room where the entry to the crawl space was. The attention to detail was especially appreciated before they left. They vacuumed everywhere they walked and even cleaned the walls and closet around the crawl space. I will definitely use them again whenever we need any construction done around the house, and recommend them to anyone looking for someone in the south bay!

Hinkle Construction just completed a residential perimeter foundation repair project for me. The job was completed within the estimated time and passed City of San Jose building inspector the first time. Job was started within the allotted time specified in the contract (21 days).
The job entailed replacing metal piers holding 6x4 girders that had rusted out causing floors to sag. With a city permit I had previously obtained myself in hand and blueprints that required replacing 32 separate piers in a crawl space of just a couple of feet it wasn't going to be an easy job. The plans were formulated and drawn by civil engineer Alan Huntzinger, ACH Engineering, Palo Alto. Of the three contractors I gave plans to only

About the job -- raising up sagging floors cause interior walls to crack near seams and corners. Mark was clear about this from the start. Parts of the sagging floor were holding up granite counters and backsplash work which was our biggest concern.
Granite counters do not bend. Raising the section of floor under the counters was nerve racking. Owner Mark Hinkle stood by me as he oversaw the raising of the girders which was done carefully utilizing a crew of four men operating multiple jacksplaced along a girder and then raised in tandem.
in addition to the changes required on the plan Hinkle Construction offered to improve upon the repair job by sistering end-to-end girders which I approved at additional cost from the original estimate.
The original estimate was typed, detailed the cost of the job and compared to other bids I had far and away the best value. It was also delivered within the time frame promised.
Pre-sales -- Before accepting the bid I asked for and received a list of references which I received over email promptly. I dialed all the numbers, found only one that was out of date and reached three of the contacts listed. One was a commercial property manager and two others had had home repairs done. All give positive responses.
Post-project -- Mark asked how the project went and what he could do better next time customer wise.
I will hire Hinkle Construction again for major home improvement projects. -

I am a residential real estate agent and was introduced to Hinkle Construction some years ago by a colleague. Since that time I have had occasion to refer Mark and Travis to a number of my clients. They have remodeled bathrooms, kitchens, completed two major remodels and done routine household repairs. One of my clients did a complete home remodel from the East Coast, and commented that it was an excellent experience. Mark called him every day to review progress. Recently I had the experience of having Hinkle construction do some modifications to my laundry room and complete a home office. I found them to be completely reliable. They were on time, their workers were polite and careful to cover floors in order to prevent damage, they cleaned up each day and were a pleasure to have in our home.
You could not find more reliable and nicer people. I will continue to recommend them to friends and clients.

I have hired Hinkle Construction several times over the past three years. I have been extremely satisfied with all their work. Without question, I will continue to call on them!
Projects have included replacement shower enclosures to repair of water damage in walls and floors from substantial leaks.
Things I particularly like about Hinkle Construction include their responsiveness, reliability, and honesty. They are also great at coordinating with tennants when we have needed work at rental property. -

I have known Hinkle Construction for about 8 years.
It is a company that has dedication to customer service, quality and workmanship. They show up on time, respect you and your place clean up after each job, use quality customer approved material, always on budget and on time.

I cant believe no has reviewed this company yet! We have had two experiences with Hinkle construction and were wowed both times. Mark is extremely professional and thorough in his work as well as his follow through. Totally competitive with his pricing as well. Having a construction company that you totally trust is almost as important as having a car mechanic you can trust and now I have both! This is a family business and Mark treats his company like he treats his family name. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

We recently purchased a house built in the 1920's and were referred to Hinkle construction for some of the projects we needed to be completed. The projects that they did were retro-fit our foundation (which was a fairly big project), converted a closet into a laundry room, took out sliding glass doors and made into a fishished entryway and put sheleves in out bedroom closet. All the work was done at a reasonable price, and on schedule. The owner Mark and his employees were on time, friendly and clean workers (which has not always been the case when hiring contractors). I was completely satisfied with all the projects he completed, and would highly recommend them.

Hinkle Construction remodeled one of our bathrooms about a year ago. It's gorgeous! They ended up making some major repairs elsewhere in this old house after we discovered some pretty major problems. The final outcome was much more than a remodeled bathroom, and we were thrilled with the results. Recently, we called Mark to do a rather small (two-day) job. Mark and some of his crew worked cheerfully and efficiently and did an outstanding job, even though this job was small in comparison. We are happy to report that no job is too big--or too small--for Hinkle Construction. This is the kind of company every homeowner needs to be able to call on from time to time. I have hired Hinkle Construction several times over the past few years. The two most significant projects they have done for me were a bathroom remodel that included installing a claw-foot tub after hauling it up a narrow, steep, curving stairway, and a kitchen remodel. In both cases, their workmanship was excellent. They started the job on time and continued working until it was completed. They were patient with my indecision and changes and never complained. The only additional cost above the original estimate was for additional work I requested. They work with a network of high-quality vendors who provide the same personal and knowledgeable service. If you are looking for the cheapest price in town, these are not the guys for you. If you want good quality work for a fair and resonable price by skilled professionals, consider Hinkle Construction.
