Review Highlights
I may be biased here because we have had such incredible times in this place. Good friends, good drinks and good food- wow, what a great place to warm up before you hit the local night clubs.
We have really enjoyed this place, and the service has been pretty darn good as well.
Check it out folks, I think this place works.
Food wise I didn't expect much but it was really, really good! I think I will be back very soon, it is delicious and the drinks well made not watery and for the prices its a great deal.
If you give them your email they send you updates and cupons! When in Ft. Lauderdale I really feel comfortable bringing anyone here to experience "Florida".
Last night was our first time here. We came to celebrate a friends laid back beach wedding. They had booked the Side Bar to have drinks and Hors d'oeuveres with their closest friends and family.
Starting with the service, it was very good - friendly. The staff seemed pleased to have us and treated us kindly.
When the food started to drift out the waiter told me to keep my eyes open for the Summer Squash purses that they were delicious. He was RIGHT! Sweet and salty with just the right amount of both. The Chicken Satay was fantastic but hands down my favorite was the Mushroom (empanadas?) - I can't remember the name but they were little fried dough with a Portabello Mushroom filling.
Oh My!! Nyum nyum they were absolutely delectable.
The drinks had the right amount of Vodka to the Tonic.
Definitely a place to go back to.
My Home Away From Home. (Sidebar)
There is a 99% chance you can find me here on Fridays from 12am -2am - sometimes later depending on my rate of consumption.
The staff is super friendly once you get to know them. Joe the bartender in the back might be one of the most entertaining bartenders around. The music on Friday is usually good (a little bit of house a little bit of hip-hop). The manager can be a d*ck, but that's his job so I won't hold it against him.
It can definitely get repetitive, but its usually a good crowd and a good time.
Great food here! They have a great range of different dishes, something for everyone. Sundays is Men's night - buy one entree and get one free.
Go hungry!
I love side bar - is the Dave Matthews cover guy still there. It's been a couple of years since I have been back, but there are some good memories of this place.
I also love the food at Himmarshee, one of my fav places to eat in FTL.
Great food, drinks, live music during the weeks and DJ on the weekend.
Make to sure to see Joe at the Back bar..
The purse pockets will keep you coming back for more... and they have an amazing wine list to boot!
I gotta say... I've eaten here for brunch and from what I remember the food was awesome but mostly I love drinking here at night! It's a young, rowdy mix of plenty of different kinds of people and we have a blast every time we go here. They play a variety of upbeat dance and hip hop music to dance to. The dance floor is small and as the night progresses it gets harder and harder to manuever through the bar, so drink up so you aren't pissy when you get elbowed accidentally....love it here though!
This is one of those places that I would love to give 5 stars to but when dining at a fancy restaurant like this I just expect so much considering all the amazing places I've eaten at on business trips in Las Vegas. I know they're trying hard, but Himmarshee doesn't deserve 5 stars. The food is gourmet and is plated well. However, when I eat at a nice restaurant I only care about the food being fresh and tasting good. I don't care if it's organic or if it's healthy. I want some amazing combinations and some delicious sauces. When I spend money, I also plan to spend my daily allowance in calories just make it taste good!
I ordered the salmon and like a wild rice dish I think. Both were good. The Salmon was actually excellent just nothing I couldn't have thought of myself. The rice was also good. However, it was still just rice. I may have tried the scallops as well. They were really good but also small. In fact all the portions were way too small and this is really a pet peeve of mine at nice places. The idea of eating somewhere that has good food is to be able to try everything, I get that. But when I have an appetizer, entree, side, and dessert I want to leave stuffed. I don't expect to take food home. But I want to be good and full. However, many critics will rave about Himmarshee and I see where they are coming from so form your own opinions. I'm kind of glutenous. Btw, the martinis were awesome! I give them 5 stars!
Wonderful! Great food, excellent variety of options on the menu, great ambiance and decor.
While traveling for Spring Break or laying on the beach, Fort Lauderdale is known for its loud, drunk, sometimes underage, visitors whom love to trash the streets like New Years in Times Square.
Venturing west, normally a $10 cab ride, away from the beach towards downtown, you'll find Second Street which is the main spot for getting your drink on! Bars, bars, a few restaurants and more bars await you.
Tucked between the trashy bars like Coyote Ugly and a pizza joint, you'll find upscale Himmarshee Bar & Grille. Servers welcome you even before you get to the host stand!! You enter and candle lit tables and romantic lighting/decor amuses you. The main room is lofted with a view of the upstairs dining above you and through a side "way" is another part of the restaurant called Side Bar which is very hip and cozy.
*******The Food****
At Himmarshee, you'll find amazing cuisine with a Contemporary American twist. Starter dishes include sauteed mushroom ricotta cheese gnocchi, a corn/pancetta/arugula salad or Prince Edward Island mussels with crushed red peppers and chorizo. Main Entrees may include mac 'n cheese with crab meat, peppercorn yellow fin tuna or a filet mignon with red wine sauce/gorgonola and crispy onions.
Do not be upset if any of the items have changed and/or not on the menu. Chef Youssef changes the menu weekly or sometimes daily!!!!
Be willing to spend $40 alone on food, not including another $40-$100 on wine or drinks.
It you don't want dinner, go around 11ish and the restaurant/Side Bar will be transformed into massive night club (only on weekends) with a live DJ.
Overall, the restaurant has amazing versatility from fine dining to night club vibe. A must when traveling to Fort Lauderdale!!
Great little local place, just a little off the beaten path underneath the Andrews Ave Bridge.
Excellent restaurant. Great decor. Authentically hip without being pretentious. Very different than the other Himmarshee neighborhood restaurants. Those are fun in their own elbows-on-the-table way, but this is a whole different level. The food was wonderful. The free-range chicken was the best chicken I have ever had in my life. Of course, I don't normally order chicken at restaurants, but my point is that everything on the menu is well thought-out and executed perfectly.
i think this place has fallen off in the past year or so. every friday, side bar is a staple during downtown fort lauderdale debauchery, but it gets so obnxiously crowded in there and the music is starting to suck. i will still continue to go, as my friends will always drag me to this place, but i am not happy about it.
I ate here a about 2 years ago and had some of the best duck I have ever tried. I found this place to be a foodies culinary gem for the area. I enjoyed the service and atmosphere and hope it hasn't changed. I'll definitely try it again on my next trip.
