We just got married in Sonoma County!
I recently stayed at the Hilton Sonoma Wine Country before my wedding. We used the Hilton as our primary hotel and everyone had a great experience. They were accommodating by putting the bridal party close to each other despite it being a nearly soldout weekend. As every bride knows, finding excellent accommodations for guests at an affordable price can be a real challenge. The Hilton Sonoma Wine Country has an e-event option that allows your guests to book on-line at a discounted rate without you having to be responsible for unused rooms. This was particularly helpful given all of our guests were coming from out of town and had different needs for hotel rooms.
As for me, I stayed in an amazing suite the night before my wedding. It was the perfect place to relax before the big day. The day of the wedding started with a breakfast buffet . The hotel staff were always friendly and helpful; I felt like a princess all weekend. Thanks for helping make our wedding weekend a wonderful success.
The Hilton - Sonoma Wine Country is conveniently located about a quarter of a mile from Highway 101.
The exterior of the hotel grounds appear to be well maintained. Similarly, the interior of the hotel is clean. However, the hotel can use a change in carpet -- as the carpet appears aged. Moreover, on my most recent visit, the elevator in my building was under repair -- which provided for a bit of inconvenience.
The staff were friendly. Further, parking is free. However, high-speed Internet fees totaled about $9.95 per day.

No! No! NO! NO!
What a horrible experience! I got a good deal on this place from Priceline. I was really excited about having a weekend visiting friends and enjoying a good night's sleep. I mean, this is a Hilton, right?
When my husband and I checked in, I specifically asked for a very quiet room, and the woman at the counter smiled and told me she would give me one of the quietest in the place. We were put in the "Riesling" wing...at the very end, by the exit (not a good start). The room had nice views out one window...and looked into what I think was the laundry room/staff lounge out the other. Before we left the room, we set the AC to it's lowest temperature, since the room was rather warm.
When we came back from hanging out with friends (about 4 hours later), the room was still very warm. The AC didn't work very well. So, I opened the window and heard only the laundry and the staff lounge...it was pretty loud.
The room service menu was pathetic and very expensive. I ordered the burger (which was tough and undercooked). My husband had an "okay" salad. Two entrees plus juice/milk cost over 60 dollars. We decided to watch a movie...all the movies were over 13.99!!!
This is the Hilton. It's supposed to be one of the better hotels to stay in. This one...not so much. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. We were pretty sure that the king bed had sheets/comforter made for a double. The pillows feel like they are filled with packing peanuts. When we finally get the AC working (in the most weak definition of the word), we felt good....until we start to get sore throats from the air being so dry/chemically. Then there is the noise. The walls were made of paper...tissue paper. Even the bathroom door in our room was so thin, it was starting to fall apart from all the steam in the room.
At about midnight... we left. Walking out, there were drunk people on the staircase...in all sorts of stages of undress.
Well I recently stayed here after making last minute plans to attend a wedding in Calistoga.
The place was very easy to find driving from San Fran Airport. Location-wise it was pretty good. About an hour and a half from the airport and about 30-40 minutes to Calistoga, Napa region.
The place is pretty large. As with most of wine country hotels, everything is organized into buildings, so not just one structure. So you have to check-in in the main building and drive to your building. Not a big deal.
The rooms are large and very clean, expected amenities, flat screen etc etc.
Okay..so I got in late and was starving and didnt want to drive out to find food. So i ordered room service. Big mistake! HUGE! I ordered a burger and small order of wings. This was one of the most expensive burgers ever. Not only was the burger about $12-15 but to your total bill, they added some surcharge and added a 15% tip. Wowser....
But regardless, for the lower cost of staying close to the traditional wine country spots (Napa, Sonoma, Calistoga), it was worth it.
No free Internet, no free newspaper, but the rooms were very nice and comfortable. There was some noticable neighbor noise but happened in AM when I was up anyway. $15 breakfast buffet, second morning I went down to nearby Carrows for their $3.99 brkfast.
I stayed here on a gift certificate on a sparsely occupied Sunday night, so even if things were bad, at least I didn't have to pay for it.
The lobby was pretty darn nice, and the night clerk was extremely friendly -- I wanna say Ashley was her name-- even though it was almost midnight.
I got to my standard King room, and was surprised at how roomy it was. The bed was extremely comfortable and they had two really squishy pillows on there (which I'm totally down with).
The clock radio has a little cord that you can hook up your iPod to, and there's a flat panel TV in there. I couldn't tell if the picture was in HD or not-- bare minimum it was a digital signal, which some hotels get wrong. There's actually nothing worse than an HDTV with an analog signal. I'd rather stare out the window than watch that.
The TV got enough channels, but I'm always really irked that they'll have CNN but won't have FOX News. Seems like a conspiracy when that happens.
The gymnasium is definitely top of the line for a hotel and all the equipment is state of the art. It also contained free weights, which is more than a lot of hotels.
I didn't try the restaurant because it was closed, so I can't complain about it like most of the other people on here.
I was definitely happy with this place, and I'd recommend it.
Stayed here for a week while in Wine Country and the hotel itself as well as the grounds were very nice. It is centrally located to Healdsburg, Sonoma, Napa and other wine areas.
The only complaint we had was the doors slamming shut. We were trying to sleep in a little bit and apparently there was a conference at the hotel and about 7am all the doors started slamming shut near ours. I dont know if the hydraulic systems that keep the doors from slamming were broke or just misadjusted, but that was our only complaint.

I have been to Napa and Sonoma several times. I have stayed at spas (Fairmont) and hotels (Embassy Suites). This is an OK place. Not great. The pool and fitness room were being repaired.
The breakfast was good, but service not the best.
I would recommend it, but not highly.
I've always wondered what's in that Round Barn. I mean, it could be anything. It could have been a top-secret Nazi base for the development of a round flying machine that would have dropped bombs on Sonoma County, or it could have been a barn used for really fat goats. I've thought a lot about that on my two stays at the Hilton. It wasn't the kind of place that distracted me with too much other stuff than to think about what the hell could be in that barn.
The rooms are actually kinda big, especially for the price. There always seem to be Expedia rooms available for 79 bucks. I love that. The views range from 'Wow, that's gorgeous' to 'Hey, that's a parking lot' to 'What do you think that Barn was used for?'. The pool is actually a thing of beauty, though if you're a lap swimmer, get there early because kids clog the place up starting at about 10 am.
The negative? It's not the best kept place in the area, even at the price. It's got problems ranging from unattentive maintainance staff to wireless problems. I used my OLPC without any problem, but my friend's machine couldn't connect. They also let the next guests in our room in while we were still in the room, an hour before check-out time! That's a bad piece of work, but it's happened to me elsewhere as well.
The restaurant is expensive, though the Sunday brunch is well-worth the trip. The food's good, the service OK. The Front Desk people are really nice, and they're very knowledgeable and will give you great pointers. The TV has a lot of channels. I watched EliteXC Fighting on CBS there and was pleased to have such a great TV.
I've also gone here on work functions and it's not a bad place to go and put your head down and concentrate on the company's dime.
The location is handy to wine country. The staff was very friendly and help in making local suggestions. The maid serves did a nice job.
The hallway carpets seemed a little older. But the worst thing was slamming doors in the morning. I have problems sleeping so being woken up over and over doesn't agree with me.
The pool and hot tub where great to hit after a long day, however they are a walk from most rooms. Breakfast here was okay and the outdoor patio is lovely.
I have nothing but contempt for the management of this hotel! We stayed at this filthy and incompetently run hotel this past weekend (from 07-12-08 through 07-15-08 confirmation number 3315139548) to enjoy the wine country. First, my wife's laptop does not have a wi-fi card and this hotel only has wi-fi. They do rent bridges to the wi-fi network, but because customers were walking away and no one was keeping track they had only five for the entire 250 guest rooms hotel! They never did fix the bridge but they did say they were sorry in scripted way.
On Sunday, my wife made note that the soles of my feet were filthy. I looked at the soles of her feet, and they were dirty as well. Turns out that the carpet was FILTHY and when told of that I got the same sorry response.
Management, and not the front desk staff, are the real culprits, here because they allow such squalid conditions to exist. They would ruined our mini-vacation had the surroundings and the wine not been so GREAT! Please do avoid this pig sty of a hotel and try the Hyatt located in the quaint downtown Santa Rosa.
I'm going to leave this place three stars, but I always want to give it four. There's just always something that leaves just an "ok" taste in my mouth. (Or was that the rotisserie chicken?) I booked ahead and got an "advanced purchase" rate of $99, I should have waited because it was down to $83 by the day before I left. Pool, Hot Tub and Fitness Center were 4 stars. Room clean, our friend's room smelled a bit stale, but he's an unlucky bastard so I won't hold that against them. Oh and by the way, everyone in the area seems to have had 6 children and they don't watch Super Nanny! That notched them down to three. (see restaurant reviewed separately "Nectar"- 2 stars)

Nice place, close to our wedding location, nice bar with outside area. Convenient location (close to highways and restaurants).
Onto the downers:
Beware Maureen their wedding coordinator is a total mess. Flakey & phoney. I have no idea how she has this job. She messed up our room block a number of times.
Ask to deal with Julie if you can. She's responsible, professional and nice.
Like most hiltons, the place was expensive too without first class service to match.
Wall's are paper thin just hope the people next door aren't getting any or you will hear it all night. Worse place ever. BLECK
Very nice place in Sonoma county. Was totally refurbished about a year ago. Rooms are spacious and very nicely decorated. Plush towels and great Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries.
Has a nice pool and hot tub. Very quiet on the side opposite the freeway.
Hint: this hotel is one used by Priceline for 4 stars. I have stayed there at least 3 times with a bid and accepted room rate of $60/night. Great bargain. Check it out.

I was presently surprised based on some of the neg reviews I've read on this site for this hotel spot. The front desk service was very professional, the grounds were well cared for and the hotel was clean and comfortable. In Feb, this is not a busy season so we were not bothered by too many guests. I got a deal on a discount site but still found it worth the price they offer on their own.
It's about 20 min to Healdsburg, 40 to Calistoga or St. Helena, about 30-40 to Sonoma depending on where you go and 45-1 hour to napa, fairly central to getting to all locations but definitely a hub rather than a central hotel for valley wine touring.
Here's a tip if you want to stay at the Hilton but they don't have the number of nights available that you want: Just book your first night and then DON'T LEAVE. Leave your room but don't check out, just leave all your stuff in it and go do your wine country stuff all day/evening.
We tried to check in here for our reservation yesterday and the nice young man at the front desk excused himself and went into the back office. He was gone for a long time so I went to use the restroom and when I came back the Front Office Manager, Renee, was explaining to my bf that about 20 people had simply not checked out, just left their stuff in their rooms and left for the day, SO the hotel was overbooked because these people refused to leave. She was very apologetic and gave us three other hotels to choose from that they would send us to with a voucher, including the Holiday Inn Express. Woo.
We ended up at the Hotel La Rose, which I guess was better than the Holiday Inn Express, and yet it did not have all the amenities we wanted.
I highly doubt we will book a room here again. I think the whole point of booking/guaranteeing a room ahead of time is that when you get there you actually have a room.

I have previously written 2 terrible reviews about the Hilton Sonoma Wine Country in regards to my "disasterous wedding" that took place their August 2, 2008. I just wanted to make it known, that after some time, I finally had an opportunity to sit down with the General Manager of the hotel, Lowell Johnson to rectify the situation. He drove from Santa Rosa, CA to San Francisco, CA to meet my husband and I which we thought was very generous. He listened to what I had to say and looked at all the paperwork and documentation I had. The end result is that he refunded the service amount that I paid for my event. It made me feel good that he actually took the time to listen to me and hear me out. He didnt argue with me and he was sincerely apologetic. Plus, I was made aware that the incompetant Maureen no longer works at the Hilton Sonoma Wine Country!!! So if any of you out there are thinking about getting married at this venue, I would recommend it now that Maureen is gone. I really and truly think she was a huge reason as to why my wedding was so bad. Lindsay and Jen were amazing to work with, and if I could do it all over again, I would request that one of them be in charge of my event!! But the grounds are beautiful and the price is right.

Nice sized rooms, clean and flat screen TVs. Staff was very helpful and responsive to our service request for AC. Large property with a pool, jacuzzi and bar.
stayed here for a couple of days...really nice hotel. staff was very friendly and very accomodating. the hotel is on the outer edge of santa rosa, surrounded by miles of wine grapes. there are 6 or 7 different buildings, all named after types of wine. for instance, i stayed at the riesling, while the building next door was zinfandel. in the middle of everything is a pool and a small gym. the rooms are pretty standard, most offering views of the surrounding fields.
minus one star for having to pay $10 a day for wifi internet access.
Not a bad place to stay in wine country. I was a little taken back by the fact that this hotel's rooms are in buildings separate from the main lobby/restaurant, which really gave it a Motel 6 type feel....for a Hilton, I really expect inside corridors, which add a bit more security. But beyond this, it's not bad. The rooms are clean and well maintained, and it's a good option if you want proximity to various Sonoma County wineries.

As a Hilton Honors hotel member, I rate the place OK. My room was nice and no complaints, but I was eligible for an upgrade which the staff did not offer and should have. I have stayed at more than enough Hilton's to know they know I had an upgrade!! But they are dog friendly which I love, decently located, and the beds are comfy. They aren't great, but they aren't bad. But charging $25 for the breakfast buffet ( and I get it for free) is the biggest rip of in town!!! No wonder it was empty on a lovely day! Denny's does a better job at breakfast for 1/5 the price.
My first time to this area and my friends made the arrangements. The hotel was very convenient to the areas we visited. I liked the overall feel of the hotel. We stayed on the ground floor after some major rains and the room smelled musty. My room was 2112 which reminded me of my first Rush album. I thought: good karma. I should have moved. The bed and bath were clean which is very important. The walls, floors and doors are thin and you hear a lot of noise. There was a family in the room above me practicing dismounts from their bed until 1 AM which was irritating but happens. Our key cards stopped working the morning we checked out (before 10 AM). I'll go back - it's a good value and I know what to expect now. Hotel restaurant Nectar reviewed separately.
Fantastic hotel. Made my reservations through Hotwire so it was very affordable but i don't know the regular rates. Although we couldn't hook up my Wii as the tv was "too new" and had only HD composite ports, we were very satisfied with teh accomodations, the bed itself was incredibly comfortable and the staff was very friendly, especially at the front desk. Also liked that there was complimentary wine tasting in the lobby!!!
Your standard nice hotel, very large rooms in three-story buildings around a pool. The hot tub is perfect after a long day wine tasting.

I stayed here for a conference recently and really enjoyed my stay. Being a total germ-a-phob, I am extremely picky about hotels and this one was very clean and very comfortable. The rooms are spacious and decorated in a sorta modern/hip country style. I had a king bed with nice sheets and the bathrooms have Crabtree and Evelyn products which are refreshed everyday. The bathrooms are also big and the towels are fluffy and heavy (not those thin crappy things like you get at other hotels or the gym). The surrounding area is pretty suburban, but the grounds for the hotel are quite lovely. Rates are about $159-$169.

We got the room with a "lanai" which translates to a fantastic shared balconey overlooking the pool and hot tub. Gorgeous view, and if you look the other way, you might see a flock of wild turkeys crossing the parking lot. We had a very relaxing time, and of course, appreciated the glut of Crabtree & Evelyn "La Source" bathroom products. Would happily come here again, because the price is right and so is the location.
I am being generous giving this hilton 2 stars! We stayed there this past weekend and the best part of the hotel was LEAVING! Our first night in the hotel we were getting ready to go out to dinner and we heard tons of commotion in the room above us, we couldn't figure out if it was people jumping, wrestling, etc...or if wild dogs were lose upstairs but we kind of ignored it and went out to eat.
About 3 hours later we got back to our room and were shocked that it was STILL going on, we figured we'd wait till close to 11pm before calling the front desk to complain, when we called and told them they told us "sure, we'll take care of it". We waited another 20-30 minutes and there wasn't even a lull in the noise.
We called the front desk again and told them that we wanted to switch rooms, they didn't have a problem with that so they sent someone to "help" us move, he more or less watched us lug our stuff from one room down several doors to our new room.
Our 2nd night we decided to stay in and go to the hotel bar/restaurant which ended up closing at 10pm, a bit early for a Saturday night. As we were getting ready to leave the bar we noticed the guy next to us ordered a few shots and a tray full of drinks "to go" then he had the bartender charge them to his room----which turned out to be next-door to ours. Around 3AM we woke up to what sounded like an explosion, apparently our next door neighbors were shooting a paintball gun at the walls in their room (my husband had seen the air canisters in the hallway) I put my ear to the wall & you could hear part of the wall on the other side crumbling!!! We were kept up for a couple more hours as they fought, shot paintball guns, etc... We didn't feel like switching rooms at 4AM since we knew that Hilton wouldn't actually quiet them down. We figure that they (the Hilton) got their payback the next day as their room sounded like it would have been destroyed!
We'll never stay at that one again and now I'm starting to wonder about the quality of their hotels overall considering their poor customer service.
nice hotel overall. it's an older property that's being redone. it's also very nicely situated to go wine tasting throughout the area without being right in one of the busier towns. the bar is great, drinks are spot on (if you get the right bartender -- look for seth), and i hear their onion rings are delicious.
one of the BEST brunches i have ever had in my LIFE!! we come here 50% of the time for Mother's Day, and it is quite exceptional. they have huge buffet of delicious, slow cooked entities. and the dessert tray is enough for me to give up eating allll day for just a bite of that sweet, succulent treat! it will cost you about $35 per person.
On my quest to find a hotel in or around the Calistoga area, the Hilton ended up being the best value for a one night crasher before hitting the wine country. The hotel is separated by buildings - you would have to register and then drive to wherever your room was located. The hotel location, in general, was fairly odd. It was in the middle of very dry land and you could see businesses not far away - but then again, it was very deserted. Despite the fact that none of the phones in our room worked, the hotel was just OK. We utilized the work out facility - two treadmills, two ellipticals, one bike a couple of free weights. The cardio machines are all equipped with LCD screens which help pass the time. Santa Rosa is only a half an hour drive from Calistoga - so that is a PLUS and a great alternative to the typical bed/breakfast or hotels that cost $$$ for their hotel and spa amenities. For the price we paid - I can't complain but I wouldn't spend anything more than $84 for the room.
