For the majority of my SF business trips, Ive stayed at the Hilton off Union Square - but with the closing of its Executive  Lounge and the insane top-of-the-market rack rates, I've been staying here instead.   I like it.   The front desk staff is always pleasant, the Lounge is great  for a quick breakfast or happy hour snack ( the automatic espresso machine makes my world complete) and the property is spotless.

    Two issues:

    1.  It is LOUD.  The hotel provides earplugs in the room.   Use them.  They are necessary.

    2.  The self-parking is ridiculously expensive.  50 bucks?   Come on now.  The garage across the street is about half that.   Lets get real Hilton and give your guests a price break.

Oh, and speaking of getting real, lets just call this the Hilton Chinatown.   The lobby decorations echo the Forbidden City and there are a million Chinese guests visiting family across the street in Chinatown.

This place is nice and it really helps to have a gold or diamond status with Hilton or if not upgrade yourself to the executive package. Not only will you get a nice view but you also get access to their executive lounge. But here are my ups and downs:
    Up: Great location
Down: Parking is $45 a night
Up: The room was modern and up to date
Down: The room was small, and the placement of the bathroom was too close to the hallway
    Up: Great views
Down: Windows were dirty and thin, which allowed outside noise to come in, even on the 22nd floor
    Up: Nice staff
Down: Maybe not enough staff, I checked in at 5:30pm and my original room was not ready
Up: Executive Lounge was well stocked and you can even pour your own liquor mixed drinks during evening snack time
Down: No hot breakfast and no beer
Overall this place was nice, if you stay here it's better to make sure you're out and about a lot during the day and during the night. With that being said you're probably thinking you should find another cheaper place but you can't beat this location and the hotel's amenities.

I feel like I should write an update, especially given that the Hilton staff does read these.  First, I ended up staying because my hotel of choice was full, and did not feel up to moving again for such a short stay.  The staff was very friendly, including the cleaning crews.  And the shampoo and shower products were of high quality.

However, my previous complaints still stand.  In addition to which, the gym was always full, even at 5am.  The elevators were SO full that I frequently had to wait for it to make several trips before I got my turn.  Internet in the ROOM is $10/day, and I stand by that being unreasonable and outdated in today's market.  (The lobby is not a place that is conducive to quiet working.)  Also, the beds are way too soft - I tossed and turned the entire time.

As for the noise, I sort of resent the implication that I don't know what I'm talking about.  It's not a good sign when your hotel has to provide earplugs (which do help, at least).  I've lived in many major metropolitan areas, including SF, and it's just not true that noise is unavoidable.  It's partially a product of location (this one is in a particularly noisy area) and partially a product of building materials (I could literally hear a conversation occurring on the ground when I was on the 15th floor).  But there are other ways to deal with that that most hotels use, like noise-muffling curtains, for example.

Long story short, it wasn't the WORST hotel in the world, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Husband booked a surprise weekend here. Room nice, but we got there and heard little kids through adjoining door. Tried to call front desk but was misdirected several times to automated checkout. We didn't want to waste time getting out to Union Square. Short walk--maybe 15 minutes. Our city view allowed us to view the rain, wait until it stopped and out we went. Later we walked from the hotel to dinner. Location extra convenient for what we wanted to do. Valet and front desk staff extra helpful.

Got a reservation for a weekend trip here on Priceline - for whatever reason Priceline booked the handicapped room for us, so we got upgraded to a king at no charge so that the room would be available for someone who needed it.  The room itself was a typical nice business-class hotel room - small, but clean and nicely decorated with higher-end bath amenities.

The good: our bed was very comfortable, everything was quite clean, and I was able to extend my checkout by one hour which made things really convenient for me.  The location was pretty convenient, and the staff were all really helpful and polite.  Our room had a very nice view of Coit Tower, and huge windows (which we could open, kind of creepy when you're on the 9th floor!) that let in a lot of light on such a beautiful weekend.

The less good:  our shower drained very slowly, and we had to take showers in a very slowly rising pool of bathwater.  Not the worst thing ever, but not something I look forward to.  Also, my boyfriend needed internet access from the room for work, which we paid for, but then internet didn't work - when he called the tech support hotline they said internet was down and they would look into fixing it right away.  We didn't have time to wait so they didn't charge us, but it was pretty inconvenient.  Also, the hotel had some strange guests - our hallway smelled intensely of weed on the first night, and I saw some people that looked really high (not able to figure out how to use the elevator and spaced out) on the second night.  Nothing bad happened, but it was strange.

All in all, this place was definitely acceptable.  I wouldn't mind staying here again, but I guess next time I might try some other place.

I think I may have gotten spoiled b/c I stayed here for my first business trip.  The hotel is in a great location!  Great for walking around and getting a lil taste of San Fran.

I was here for a conference that was held at the hotel. The conference room and  bathrooms were very well taken care of.  The staff for the conference was also outstanding. Great breakfast, Starbucks coffee and an afternoon snacks that consisted of cookies, brownies and get this...hot pretzels with cheese and mustard dipping sauces! Being a salty fan over sweet stuff, I was pretty happy.  It's the small stuff, right? haha.
The staff cleaned up after us often and you almost didn't notice when they came in to clear items.

My room was on the 24th floor (executive level) which is another reason I think I was spoiled by this trip.  The view I had of San Fran was amazing during the day and at night. I would sit and work at a huge desk that overlooked the city. Can't beat it!

The lunch buffet is tasty and encompassing.  I typically loathe buffets but I was impressed.  Typically, there are 2 different salads, pastas, 3 main dishes (halibut, sweet n sour pork, etc), soup, lil sandwiches, and dessert.  You can also go to the other area of the restaurant and order off of the menu.

I had an issue with the hotel holding more than usual for my deposit.  I worked with Jane to resolve the issue. She was so pleasant and handled the issue like a true professional.  One day I was at the front desk asking for directions and I was offered a glass of wine. Um. OK!

To sum it up, great location, professional staff, good food, and comfortable rooms.

Here's the thing to know about San Francisco: There's no parking.
So what makes anybody think San Francisco's hotels will offer any [cheap] parking?
My loves came from Los Angeles and decided to stay here.
I left the car at home because $26 a day across the street at Portsmouth Garage for parking wasn't worth it, especially just for the weekend. I got everyone Clipper cards and prepped them for Muni and BART.

If you're a tourist, here's another thing to know besides the no parking thing: It can be tricky getting a cab here sometimes. Most cabs are shooting up Kearny to get all the way to Broadway. If you have trouble, seriously ask the concierge to call one for you (duh) or be smart and call 415-333-3333 (That's YellowCab)

Also if you're a tourist, don't try to find something to eat in the Financial District (or FiDi as us locals call it) If you check your Yelp app carefully, nearly everything in FiDi will be closed. Why? Because the FiDi is a ghost town after 5-6pmish on weeknights. Your best bet is to walk to North Beach or Chinatown. Both neighborhoods are within reasonable walking distance. I'm talking a mere matter of blocks here.

Room service  and the hotel restaurant closes at a fairly decent hour. If you're up late and hungry, your best bet is to try Chinatown. Sorry folks.

The rooms though? Not much lounging space (not that we needed much) but soft beds and a gorgeous  MILLION DOLLAR VIEW of Coit Tower!!!!!! The bed was way too soft for my liking. Woke up with backpains. I think we all did. The bathrooms also don't have a fan... so if you have multiple people showering after one another, it gets really damp. Bring matches if you need to blow up a toilet too. However, this Hilton does offer Peter Thomas Roth toiletries. I am impressed. Way to go Hilton.

I was the first of my party to check in.. Upon arrival I noted a set of courtesy earplugs left on the nightstand. I was curious as to WHY they were there. I was thinking maybe they were just very thorough but I learned why on Saturday night...
There's some sort of bar or saloon in the alley next to the hotel and I guess they have raging parties now and then because I didn't really get a wink of sleep on Saturday night. You crazy hooligans!

Hilton Financial District is convenient for 2 reasons: it is right across the street from Chinatown and is also conveniently near the North Beach and Downtown areas. If you're here for business with a day or two of leisure time, this would be a safe bet to stay. If you're here for leisure only..well all I can say is suit yourself.

Continental breakfast is convenient if you don't really know SF or are in a rush. I took the initiative to get up a bit earlier than usual, go up two blocks into the main area of Chinatown and go dim sum mongering. Since the hotel is on Kearny, walk up the hill to Stockton Street. There are many dim sum to go shops up there and some open as early as 6am for the construction/utility workers. OR you can grab your dim sum, come back to the hotel and get your continental coffee/tea. You ALSO get your exercise too!

This hotel has a Chinese style decor and appearance to it. The Chinese Culture Center is also located within this building, located on the third floor. The gallery is open T~Sat from 10-5pm. They have their own elevator button and is hard to miss.

I highly recommend NOT eating at the Hilton restaurant unless its for Happy Hour. There are many restaurants near this hotel and within walking distance.

PARKING: There is no affordable parking in SF. Hilton has a parking lot, very pricey ($50 a day). Across the street is Portsmouth Parking Garage ($26 a day); still pricey. I'd recommend you leave your smog with wheels at home and take public transit while staying here. Get yourself a Clipper Card, load some cash on it, then take Metro to wherever you need to go.

SERVICE: Quick, attentive and courteous. I didn't have any problems with any of the staff while staying here this past weekend.

Overall: Will stay here again if I am in town.

I stayed here a few weeks ago when I was in San Fran for work.  There is ALWAYS a line at the front desk; it reminded me of an airport hotel!   I did have a great view of the bay from my hotel room, but I didn't like how busy and impersonal the lobby area was.  I would never want to sit down there and read because it is so noisy.

I'm also not a fan of the area; I stayed there because it was close to the company I was vising, but I couldn't really find any nice restaurants immediately close to the hotel.  I also ran into several weird homeless people on the way back from Union Square one night; it was only about 9pm too.  It doesn't seem like a safe neighborhood for a woman to walk around alone at night.

I have stayed here several times and will continue to come back.  On a couple of stays, I had trouble with my in-room internet, which was a big problem for me because it was a working trip (and I work all the time).  BUT they fixed the problem!  There is now a pay-per-hours internet service, which seems to work just fine.  Yay.

I love playing tourist in the city, I know the city like the back of my hand but it changes all the time. Plus staying in the city at the Hilton is like a mini vacation close to home. As a visitor, you should know you are in the middle of it all.

SF is small, you are in Chinatown-slash-Financial District-Columbus/North Beach already, by being here. Pick your position and the best the city has to offer is at your door.

Bay View Business Type Suite. Large desk top with view. Purrfect if you need to hook up your laptop to the TV monitor, HD really nice TV, plus cable. Koit tower lit up in Niners colors at night, pimp ish.

Waking up to a different view, the beautiful Koit tower and Treasure Island Bay View were amazing! I feel spoiled although this is my city.

So, I love checking out the hotel gym. It's small but efficient. a little mid day pre-game workout and high cardio beks. Let's workout.

The hotel's appearance and decor is nice. The cucumber water at the front desk was refreshing.

The hotel provides ear plugs on the night stand. USE THEM because the morning is noisy because is right next to Chinatown and you can hear the traffic in the morning.

This was a nice find for a last minute Friday night trip to the city.

Parking to expensive; $55 for the hotel parking lot but there is a public parking lot directly across the street for $27. Trust me the parking rates are cheaper than a parking ticket.

    Overall I enjoyed my stay.

I like it but I don't want to marry it...

The other reviews really say it all...If you get a great rate, by all means, stay here. Its in a decent spot if you are in town for a weekend and want to walk around and see things...

Its most famous next door neighbor is the TransAmerica tower...its about 8 blocks to the metro and less than that to tons of great shopping.

    Parking a car is pricey
The executive lounge is nice but a bit cramped during peak rush and really just a continental breakfast in the morning...nothing to write home about.
The front desk staff were so fun and engaging for us...brownie points.

My only hang-up is that there are 4 elevators serving 26 floors...thats alot to ask of four elevators during the checkout rush...and a bit too far to walk if you are on the top floor enjoying a nice executive suite...don't wait until the last minute to rush downstairs in the morning...nuf said!

I want to say there is something really cool here...I think its the main floor bar/lounge...great vibe!

You get what you paid for. This definitely applies to Hilton SF at the Financial District/Chinatown.

I booked the hotel through http://hotels.com with a really competitive rate and stayed 2 nights here right before the new year. Sister and I arrived around noon and were glad to find out that we were able to check in early. However, the same front desk staff was not helpful at all with information on the surrounding areas and wasn't able to confirm a late check out. Granted it's not her job, but she made it sound like she was doing us a huge favor giving us a copy of the city map.

There are 4 elevators inside, but it seemed like only one worked. And i guess with the price we paid, of course we got stuck with a room on the 7th floor facing the construction sites (aka city view). The walls of the room were very thin as we could hear our next door neighbor's phone conversation. Construction noises were heard at the crack of dawn (this explained why the hotel placed earplugs on the nightstand).

House keeping did not clean our room until past 2pm, and the bathroom amenities were not refilled (not that we cared to use the products). On the plus side, we asked for an extended check out and the guest service was able to offer it (we first tried calling the front desk in the morning but the call was routed straight to voicemail).

I did not feel that this hotel was on par with the Hilton Chain from my experience.

I got a great deal through Expedia and price wise it was worth it. The hotel is nice but the people and service is horrible.

I went out in the front with my girlfriend and we were contemplating, whether, to take a cab or walk and in that time a cab that was waiting picked someone up and left. We then go to the doorman and ask him to get us a cab and his reply was "But there was a cab 2 minute ago!" Yes he said "2 minute," not minutes. Thanks Cpt. Hindsight, any other hints you can give me if I go back in time? I understand we were going back and forth between deciding but it's not his job to be a smarta**, just get the cab and shut up.

Then during our last morning my gf had the bright idea of ordering breakfast since Chinatown is not exactly our cup of tea when it comes to breakfast serving. We order some menu they had which came with 2 danishes, 2 muffins, and 2 cups of tea. The total comes out to $40!! Yes $40 but to really stick it to us, the muffins were about 2 inches wide and the danishes were also tiny. I'm not making this up, they really were 2 inches wide. I complained to the manager and told him at least get some Costco muffins and charge me that amount. I get you guys need to make money but don't just blatantly rip me off like that by giving me the smallest muffins I have ever seen and charging me $10 for it and $10 for a tiny danish.

They ended up giving me a $10 refund or some bull like that and I just left cause I was too annoyed. They were rude and thought they were superior just cause they were from the Hilton.

If you go there just sleep there and nothing more.

Perhaps I'm becoming a creature of habit. I hope not! But...

I stay here pretty much every time I come to San Francisco. It's close to a variety of extremely casual restaurants. It has an oriental feel and decor, which is fine with me. The rooms are comfy although I've heard traffic noise on lower floors can be an issue for some light sleepers. (not me!). There is a liquor store nearby, in case you need to restock.

Parking is like $55 or something but, if you need a car in San Francisco, something must be wrong. Bring those walking shoes and enjoy!

The views from the top floors can be quite nice. For the reviewer who said they don't have an executive floor... Maybe you don't have enough points? ;-)

After trying to get a hotel room on a busy weekend my spouse and I reserved a room at the Hilton. We were looking for a smaller boutique style hotel hoping for a friendlier atmosphere with more personal touches. The Hilton in the Financial district turned out to be that and more. Not only was it in central location, the front office staff were very accommodating and kind. Especially Diana who upon learning it was my birthday set us up in a glorious room with an awesome view and took care of some fax business at no additional charge. I really appreciated the special treatment. Room decor was inviting and very comfy. I loved the bed.

I'll be traveling to the bay area more frequently because my son is attending schooling Berkeley, but I will always stop in SF before crossing the bridge and I will most definitely be booking a room at the Hilton again.

The hotel is nice, though some of the rooms are quite small.   I saw two while staying there, then got back on the website to try to figure out the size differences for future stays and can't based on the square footage stated.  The double says it is 260 square feet and the king says 277 square feet.  The king was way bigger than the double, which was very tight for a US hotel, even downtown in a big city. IF I had been in the smaller room, I would have downgraded to two stars.   Rooms are neat and clean.

The onsite restaurant is superior to many hotel restaurants, with a nice atmosphere, good service, and a good variety of quality entrees.

By far one of the best hotel experiences I have had. This from someone who is a Gold with Hilton and Platinum with Marriott. Stayed a weekend here to celebrate a special occasion. Was given a bay facing room on the 26th floor. Words would do injustice to describe the landscape from this room. Both days we stayed, the weather was fabulous. You can see Alcatraz, Coit Tower and beyond. At night, views of the illuminated Coit Tower are spectacular.
The 26th floor also has an Executive Lounge. Very few hotels in San Francisco offer a similar lounge. Had excellent continental breakfast each morning. It also had snacks, fruit, tea, coffee and soda all day long. In the evenings, the lounge had an honor bar with hot and cold hors d\'oeuvres, an excellent selection of cheeses and fruit. Multiple vegetarian options were available as part of their their hot hors d\'oeuvres selection.
The house keeping service was top-notch and so were their plush bath robes. No complaints on this front.
As an aside, the management should consider offering "guided" tours to their rooftop. I can only image the unobstructed views from there. On a clear day, one should be able to see the GGB, the Bay Bridge and the extended bay area. They did have a rooftop pool as some point. May not be a bad idea to reopen this facility if it is still functional.
Three of the four elevators did break down one morning. Had to climb down 26 floors! Did leave a little dizzy when I reached level 1. Was probably fixed before I got back to my room later in the afternoon.
I would certainly urge you to opt for the Bay facing Executive level rooms. They certainly are worth the extra cost. Will make for a very memorable stay!

I spend over 100 nights per year in Hilton Hotels, the lobby is nice but the rest of my experience was that of a Holiday Inn/Super 8. 4 elevators when all are working, this was not the case. I just felt like they charge New York prices for everything, but the experience is truly Omaha! I guess the only thing NY was the sewer rat we saw near the front enterance. Friendly staff/concierge and good drinks in the bar. I would tell management to keep trying or go visit some other Hilton's to get the idea.

    Downtown, high views.

We went up to SF from LA for a Giants game and we only stayed one night. I actually really loved this hotel. For $150/night in the heart of the Financial District Downtown it was perfect.

There was a desk that ran the entire length of the window (an office space) and you're looking out of a massive window of the beautiful city. HD TV, big comfy beds, clean room and a great looking bathroom... Everything is very contemporary.

The reason why this place gets 2 stars... Parking. I paid good money for a bed to sleep in for 4 hours, they could have validated my parking. I ended up paying $30 even though I was a guest. I might be a noob and I'm not sure if this is common practice in SF, but that killed it for me.

I stay at a lot of Hilton hotels.  This one stands out for its lack of consistency with the Hilton brand.

They lack executive level floors, elevators,  breakfast and evening reception, nor bar.

Given the vilocity of people coming in and out of this hotel, you would think that Hilton would want things the same.

    Lastly, please open the pool....

Had a chance to stay here over the weekend due to a wedding around the corner.  I had heard a few nice things about the remodeling, so decided to go with this property vs the standard SF Hilton.

Nice room amenities, all of which you can reach from your bed - the rooms are definitely on the small side.  No fridge, which was disappointing.  And when you see sets of ear plugs on the bed stands, you know that you're in for a long night.  Unfortunately, the inclusion was a good move, but extra thick ones are needed.  It was that loud.

Free wifi in the rooms - wonder how long that will last?

The Executive Lounge is temporarily relocated to the first floor....kinda strange, but given the remodeling efforts, understandable.

The breakfast was, in a word, poor. We used vouchers (given due to my Diamond status), otherwise I would have refused to pay.  Scrambled eggs were prepared European style - runny and disgusting.  While I like crisp bacon, I'm not a fan of bacon cooked so thoroughly that it's almost black.  The sausage didn't fair much better.

The only good thing on the table, frankly, was the OJ - very very good.  My wife, who'd never met a coffee she didn't like, met one there.

IF I were to stay here again, I'd go for a lower floor.  WAY too few elevators for a 27 story building, requiring long waits to catch an elevator, and guaranteeing a stop at virtually every floor in both directions.

As a weekend stay, it was "ok".  I certainly wouldn't eat there again, and frankly, if there are rooms available at other SF Hiltons, I'd go that route.

I travel often for business, and I've stayed at a lot of hotels during the week.  Recently I had to do an assignment in San Francisco.  Now, ordinarily I would have given this hotel 4 stars, because it's "fine" except for 1 major issue: the elevators.  Simply put, whoever designed this hotel didn't put in enough elevators.  And it's a serious problem.

The hotel is nearly 30 floors of guest rooms, plus the elevators also stop at several subterranean parking floors.  Yet, they only have 4 elevators.  FOUR!  During peak times (such as the time of day that people need to go to work), you could easily wait upwards of 15 minutes in the morning for an elevator.  This is especially true if your room is on one of the lower floors, because the elevator would have already picked up as many people as it could hold as it descended from the upper floors.  As you jam yourself into the elevator, you'll also have to stop at each floor on the way down.  It stops at each floor, but none of the people who are waiting will be able to get into the elevator because it's already as full as it can be.

If you are staying at this hotel for work and you need to be at your office by 9:00 a.m., you better add an extra 15 minutes to your commute because of this issue.  My office is a 3 minute walk from this hotel, yet if I leave my room at 8:55 I will automatically be between 10 and 15 minutes late.  That's when all 4 elevators were working, too.  I can only imagine what type of carnage would ensue if one of the elevators was out of order...

By the way, this is not a "once in a while" situation, either.  It's EVERY DAY!  Then when it comes time to return to your room, you'll often notice dozens of people waiting for the elevators to pick them up from the lobby.  Again, it's not an infrequent situation, which I'm sure the hotel management would like you to believe.  It's EVERY DAY.

Honestly, do yourself a favor -- don't ever stay here.  Just stay somewhere 15 minutes away and get some extra exercise by walking.  It's mentally more productive than jamming yourself into an already full elevator after already waiting around for 15 minutes.

Rooms were small but adequate. Lots of noise from traffic and this city never sleeps.

Restaurant service was lacking. We only ate here for breakfast and as soon as they found out we had vouchers, their entire demeanor changed. As a Diamond member at Hilton, I've never experienced this level of non service in one of their hotels. We spoke to the manager and he said that's why he was brought in, good luck, you are going to need it with the culture already bred.

I have never stayed here, but have used their parking garage (cheapest option after Portsmouth Square garage). Their bathrooms are very clean, and they never stop you to see if you are a guest of the hotel. You can walk right in, and use the facilities, and then leave.

Also, their bar does not start serving until noon. I got there at 11:45 am, and the bartender bent the rules and served me a glass of wine and some feel from the limited menu versus the full menu. This was fine with me because i wasn't very hungry, and just wanted a snack.

Stayed here  just before Christmas...was upgraded and had a great room with a view of North Beach...one of the best views ever!  The EXECUTIVE LOUNGE was open and the people there very nice...snacks and breakfast very good!

I would stay here again:  we walked all around North Beach and down Grant to Union Square:  crowds of people and hard to get into a restaurant but the Holiday spirit was
    catchy...GUMPS was a hoot!

Anyway the parking is  really expensive here but we used PORTSMOUTH cross the street and it worked out...beds and furnishings were very nice.  No noise on the 19th floor...

All the SANTAS were walking around but we missed the end where they had to be staggering...

Thanks to the front desk people for taking care of us!

Quick trip back to SF to visit all of my favorite restaurants...Boy did I leave my heart in SF :-(

Great deal @ http://priceline.com got me a hotel room at the Hilton Financial District (Chinatown) for $120/night on July 4th weekend...Sweet! (R&G lounge right across the street BOO-ya!)  I've heard bad things about people staying at this hotel after paying bargain basement prices thru priceline, but I can honestly say we got an excellent room and had excellent service.  When we arrived, we parked in the self parking garage for $45 a night (-1 star), at check-in, I asked the clerk if I could get a room with a crib and away from the elevator (since we had the BB with us).  He accommodated on us without an issue, we ended up on the 10th floor with a king bed.

The room itself was nicely appointed, with a view of Coit Tower and partial bay view.  We could also see some construction next door, but no annoying construction noise because we were there on a holiday weekend.  Everything was clean and modern.  The housekeeping staff brought us the crib which looked almost new, and she brought us extra sheets and towels without us even having to ask.  No muss, no fuss, awesome time in my FAVORITE city!

Oh yeah, free in-room WIFI!  Awesome!

Tip: if you park across the street from the hotel at the Portsmouth Square Garage, you will pay $27/night instead of $45.  No one from the hotel told us this, but we decided to check after the first night, and glad we did, cuz uh, I'd rather spend the extra $18/day on chocolate cake and croissants from Tartine!

http://Priceline.com.  An easy to navigate website that gets you instant savings on just about every mid level hotel in any major city. I saved $60 by using them - you should too.

Because I felt like I had a good deal, I didn't mind too much that there was construction going on next door that started at 7AM on the weekend - or that the water pressure sucked in the bathroom. Or the fact that they'd only give us 2 towels when us gals know we need two towels for ourselves any time we do our hairwashing ...

Setting all that aside, this hotel is in a great location. You can easily walk to a lot of popular places ... we had a view of the bridge and nob hill. Our bed was big and comfortable. They use crabtree and evelyn bath products.

I'd stay at this hotel again, but it's nothing fancy - nothing to get super excited about. But it'll do the trick if you are looking for a reasonably priced room in the area.

This is where my airline puts us up in San Francisco on long (20+ hrs) layovers. It's a block away from the TransAmerica Pyramid, across the street from Chinatown, down the street from the Tenderloin Dist & North Beach, and only a few blocks away from Market St., Embarcadero, and Union Square. The location is PERFECT for me.

I can walk 5 min and be at the Montgomery BART Station to go see friends in the East Bay. I can get cheap-o kitchen supplies in Chinatown, get a Latte in North Beach, and go to the Farmers Market on Embarcadero while enjoying the architecture that rises around me.

The rooms facing north will have a beautiful view of Coit Tower and North Beach. (See Picture) But there's a new building going up beside the hotel so lower floors might have an obstructed view in the near future. The rooms facing south will overlook the city scapes from the B of A building to the Marc Hopkins Hotel on Nob Hill. There is a children's playground down below which can get loud during school days and garbage trucks do start early around here, but I love the sounds of the city. (They do give you ear plugs by your bed).

Free Internet in the rooms. VERY Comfy beds that you sink into. Airline crews get 50% off of the Firefly restaurant, but I refuse to eat at any hotel when I'm in the Bay Area.

Overall, I was very happy with our room and stay at this hotel.  Our room was very nice.  We were on the 24th floor of 27.  We had a lovely view of Coit Tower.  Our bed was very comfortable.  I can't honestly think of anything our room was lacking.

However, At 4:30 in the morning after a long day and a horrible meal [see review of Seven Fifty], I was trying to get a good night's rest.  That's when the fireworks started downstairs.  Some yahoo decided that four in the morning was a good time to celebrate.  It seemed to be coming from Larry Flynt's hustler club.  Maybe someone received the one millionth lap dance?  Who knows?  But damn, that really ruined my rest.  But - not the hotel's fault.

The only other problem was that when we received our bill [pushed under the door during the night], we were charged a 35 dollar laundry bill.  When I called downstairs to inquire about the charge, a man rudely asked "Well, did you send laundry out?"  "Nope. That's why I'm asking why I was charged, obviously".  "Well, okay then.  We'll investigate this charge and see if we can remove it from you bill" .  See if you can remove it?  Really?  We didn't send out for laundry, so remove the damn bill.  And when we were ready to check out, they still hadn't removed the charge, so I had to ask again.  I guess they were still deep in their investigation somewhere.

All in all, I would stay there again.  And I would utilize the free ear plugs this time.

Probably one of the best Hiltons in the US!  Being a Platinum member, I've stayed at many hiltons and hilton family hotels, and let me tell you that is one of the best.  The service at the front desk is very friendly, with luggage check readily available.  The lounge is nice with lots of room to hangout and people browse.  The Bar is always stacked and ready for you to sip sip...pass!  There are two sections for breakfast, one for continental and the other is a full hot loaded one.  The concierge has tickets and coupons for wine tasting as well.

You're located right in the heart of China town so go out there and get your eat on!  Try the R and G lounge down the street, and also walk across to the Bubble lounge for some clubbing and eye candy browsing (no cover!)
    Ya'll come back now!

You know you're in trouble when the hotel gives you earplugs to help you sleep at night.  The construction next door did not stop at night.  My first evening, I woke up at 2am, 4am and I finally got up at 5am because I couldn't take it anymore.  Plus, the pillows were insanely uncomfortable.

Luckily, the rooms come with complimentary wifi so I could surf the internet and get some work done at 5am.  I loved the long desk area with all the outlets you need.  The TV had enough channels and I was entertained.

The room came with a large closet with a safe.  You also get USA Today in the morning, if you care.  I was surprised that the water in the room was only $2.50 per bottle. I actually drank 1 bottle for once.

Check out was super-easy by phone and I was able to leave all of my luggage at the hotel after check out.

The only major problem I had (besides the construction, which wasn't the hotel's fault) was the incompetence of the guy trying to get us transportation to the airport.  We told him that we needed to go to the Oakland airport and waited patiently for 15 minutes until a towncar came.  He told us to get in but it was actually for someone else.  Then he told us to get into a cab and after we loaded everything into the cab, the cab driver kicked us out because he thought we were going to SFO.  We spent the next 15 minutes chasing after every taxi and towncar we saw with little help from the hotel.  Finally, we found someone who reluctantly took us to OAK.  Good thing none of us missed our flights!

All in all, if you don't mind a little noise, this Hilton is a pretty good choice.  The location is relatively central, the price is fair, and the amenities are modern.

I was here in the last week of Sept 2011. This hotel was great from start to finish. Once we arrived and went to check in, we were offered a beverage while waiting, and asked if we had any questions regarding our stay. While checking in, the woman helping us out was friendly, and gave us a room on the 27th floor. Before coming to SF, and finding out that I would be staying in this hotel, I went online to find reviews of the hotel. I got so scared from what a lot of people were saying. One was that they couldn't get a good night's rest because of loud noise from construction. I never heard the sounds, and yes they were there. It may of been since I was on a high floor, but I had an amazing, relaxing time here. We also ordered room service on our last night, and it was SO GOOD!!! Being that it was late at night, and we had an early flight the next day, we opted to stay in, and order. If you are ordering appetizer's then stick with 2, because it is pretty filling! The reason why I gave 4 stars is because of the slow elevator service... I waited to catch an elevator to go down for 7 mins, then when an elevator came, it was packed. Same thing happened with the other 2 that came. So I had to wait for the last one, and waited more than 10 mins, which is not good...
Overall, I would go back to this hotel because of the service, location for shopping, and restaurants!!

Hilton's are generally speaking pretty nice unless you are in the Hilton in Las Vegas which is just plain weird. I like that Hilton's most often have great rates when you find a deal which isn't on their site. Try Orbitz, Expedia, or http://Hotels.com or priceline like some folks have mentioned and you will find this place at a great rate.

The San Francisco Hilton is in an especially good part of town if you're traveling for business but not so good if you are leisurely taking a relaxing weekend because it gets to be very 'happening' at night, read loud!

The lobby bar is really nice, and I have more than once stopped by for a drink without even intending to stick around town.

    Parking is EXPENSIVE. $$$!!!

This hotel was listed as a select hotel for the San Francisco Marathon.  When I called, they refused to give me the group rate saying that it was sold out. They had a ton of rooms left, ( I checked the inventory) and even though they had plenty of availability they insisted on charging $375 per night instead of the $199 rate shown on the marathon website.  I called the Marriott Hotel, which is even closer to the marathon starting area and got the $199 rate - they also said the block was sold out, but gave the me discount rate because they had other rooms available (like the Hilton) and are a decent and more honest company to deal with.  HILTON CORP. SUCKS - please avoid them.
