97 reviews for Hilton San Francisco Financial District
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
There was a lovely bartender at the Hilton lobby who had a great aura about her.
We were attending a Yelp event at the spa in the hotel and came out for a breather. I asked the bar tender if we could sit and finish our drinks at her bar instead of inside the spa. She smiled, said "of course" and offered us a glass of water.
After about 10 minutes, she was serving some yummy scallops to a couple of patrons at the bar. One of the scallop dishes was declined because the customer did not eat shell fish.
The sweet bartender turns to us and asks us if we would like the dish. UMMM HELL YES!! Even after telling HER to eat it, she said no, YOU gals ENJOY. What service!
If only I could remember her name. She was one of the friendliest bartenders I have ever met in my life.
Hilton Management, give this woman a raise!
I'm a San Francisco resident but I stayed in this hotel last night for an assignation. This was one of the best hotel rooms I've ever stayed in, and I had a fantastic stay.
I stayed in an ordinary king bed room on the north side of the hotel. The room is not particularly large, but its furnishings and decoration are unobtrusive and the room doesn't seem cramped. I liked how the whole area in front of the window was one long desk, with a chair and a lamp to one side. You can lean on the desk and take in the utterly fantastic view, which is the view toward Coit Tower as seen in the photos on this Yelp page. (Obviously, the higher in the hotel you are, the better the view; I was on the 12th floor, about halfway up the building.) The wall-to-wall windows allow you a 180-degree view and we could see the bay on one side and, past the slope of Russian Hill, a patch of the Golden Gate, enough to see ships going in and out.
The bed was extremely comfortable. All of the furnishings were spotless and nothing showed age or wear. This was true in the room as well as in the bathroom.
Room service was extremely prompt at 9:15 pm on a Friday night. In the morning we ate in the restaurant and ordered off the menu. The food was very good. As one might expect from a four-star tourist hotel, it was also expensive. Travelers on a budget can walk down nearby Columbus Avenue to one of many cafes, or into the Financial District on Montgomery Street, if it's a weekday.
I give this hotel the highest possible recommendation.
Getting here was fun considering all of the one way streets surrounding the hotel.
We did self parking, which was interesting in itself. 30 for overnight parking, no ins and outs. Got a tad bit expensive if we wanted to drive anywhere, which we did.
Walked in to a very nice hotel with very friendly front desk staff. Our room had a bay view, and was not bad at all. Very clean, sheets seemed new, bathroom very clean.
Like some other reviewers said, this hotel was definitly not sound proofed. Sirens all night, and woke up saturday morning to constant horns blaring from cabs below.
elevators weredefinitly a problem. waited what seemed like 10 minutes at times.
All in all not a bad hotel, would stay again.
I couldn't resist: here's an oldie but goodie from March of 2007:
At first glance, the room looked small, but okay. The flimsy artifice of 'nice' looking furnishings quickly falls by the wayside, as you realize that this hotel may actually have shoddy building designs: The walls were paper thin, and we heard a man snoring next door, which at first, we mistook for some kind of a low hum of an appliance--nope, it was indeed a human being. The snoring persisted throughout the night, and eventually woke us up at 5 in the morning. Nothing would stop this din, even the clanging of the serving trays for the overpriced room service, would wake this man. Eventually, we had to call his room, which DID stop it, and we were able to get back to sleep--and yes, hilarity did ensue.
Everywhere you turn, you can't avoid the price gouging, and you even get the added perk of Conrad Hilton's mind numbing autobiography--an accessory to the ever present bible, and the ultimate in sickening self-aggrandizement. Save your money for a place with a conscience and well insulated walls. Even though this Union Square hotel is mammoth, it has a suffocating feeling. We hated to think that we were helping to line Paris Hilton's pockets.
We wondered how this hotel got the 4 star rating--did they fall from the sky?
WORST GARAGE FOR PARKING. Both bumpers needed repair on 2 separate occasions. The manager is uselses and the security guard looks himself out of his booth. Don't complain to the Hilton, they know nothing.
DONT STAY HERE. IT USED TO BE A HOWARD JOHNSON. SOMETHING ABOUT PUTTING LIPSTICK ON A PIG, IT'S STILL A PIG!
The former Holiday Inn, remodeled and reborn as a Hilton Hotel, is very nice now. The rooms are small but well appointed. The windows are kept very clean so you can enjoy the great views of the bay and the tower. It is located just a few blocks in either direction to Union Square, Ferry Plaza, and Little Italy. Chinatown is just steps away and adjacent to a good dim sum house called City View.
We had a great weekend there and would stay there again. We had no problems with the elevators as a few other indicated long wait times. However, the hotel isn't well insulated from street noise and there is a lot of it in SF well into the wee hours including garbage trucks, yelling, cars honking etc. We got good rates from Price Line, so we feel we got a good deal on the hotel room.
I have stayed at the Hilton twice in the last three years. Both times I had an excellent stay. The beds are complete with 4 feather pillows and very comfortable. My room had a nice desk area for a computer with a nice view. Outside my window was the outskirts of Chinatown. Not too shabby. The cost of my most recent stay was very reasonable under $200. The hotel tax in CA is something like 18% so expect that tacked on to your bill. The hotel is in a great location between Chinatown and North Beach. There's great restaurants everywhere and plenty of things are witihin walking distance. I thought all of the staff were very helpful. I will stay here again without hesitation.
Remember the beginning of the 1971 film, "Dirty Harry?"
The opening scene of the movie was shot atop the Hilton - San Francisco Financial District. The pool is no longer operational. And the building was originally operating as a Holiday Inn -- but later shutdown, renovated, and rebranded to a Hilton.
This hotel is centrally located in the Financial District -- within short walking distance of Chinatown, North Beach, and Nob Hill.
The rooms are clean. However, bathrooms vary in cleanliness -- as some bathrooms have what appear to be black mold that cover the tile corners of the showers.
Nonetheless, the hotel offers free wireless Internet. However, you must pay to receive wired Internet -- which is about $9.95 per day.
The room service is above average; although the prices are certainly inflated for the portions of each meal.
Similarly, parking rates are also inflated -- at $54 per day.
The staff is (generally) very accommodating. Moreover, the views from each room are fantastic.
Additional Notes:
- If you are on business -- and a light sleeper -- then I suggest you look elsewhere, as the urban sounds of the city (ex. conversation, emergency sirens, traffic, etc.) tend to flow upward, and into the rooms (even at the higher levels of the hotel).
- Parking can be purchased at the structure across the hotel. However, the structure is often full. Further, I am not certain to whether in/out privileges are included.
We went to the city for a weekend away and had a fantastic stay at the Hilton. We were on the 25th floor and had an amazing view of the bay, including Alcatraz. The window was huge and it was fun to sit on the desk up against the window and look down below at the busy city.
Pros: the amazing view, the room was clean, the super comfortable bed, and everything seemed new. The breakfast buffet was good and had tons of options (scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, fruit, cereal, pastries, fresh squeezed juice, etc.)
Cons: The TV didn't have many channels, but who comes to San Francisco to watch TV? Also, the bar in the lobby is overpriced and the coffee bar didn't seem to be open much during the weekend.
My friend works with people at this Hilton and got a good rate (and then paid for the room as a birthday present) so I'm not sure how much it normally costs, but we had a fantastic stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
I was in the city for a wedding and the Hilton was the closest and least expensive place I could find.
The location is ok, it's surrounded by a lot of small Chinese businesses with a random Subway on the corner. Check in was super quick and the girl who helped me was super nice and professional.
The room was on the smaller size but functional. My biggest irk was there were no towels and no locks on the bathroom door. I had to hunt down housekeeping for towels, apparently they had run out. Thankfully the beds were very comfortable and I slept like a baby.
Yes, they need to do something about that elevator, for having 26 floors they've got to be faster going up and down.
Overall the stay was alright, not to bad and not exceptional, just ok.
Well this place sure had several mixed reviews but overall my stay here was really good.
Seems as if the majority of the reviews focused on noise, small rooms, and slow elevators. I'll break down the review with these three first, since these all seem to be common themes
Rooms:
I found the rooms to be rather nice, clean, and were just the perfect size for me. I am not sure what else someone wants as far as space goes but the room was perfect size. They had a large desk area, one computer chair as well as a small chair with ottoman, and they also had a small love seat. My room had a standard TV, not flat screen, but to me this is not a problem. The bed and pillows were super comfy and were feathered.
The bathroom was simple but the Toilet had some odd flushing issues which was a pain. The shower was simple, no rolling doors just a curtain. Overall the room is clean, big enough, and was in great shape.
Noise:
I stayed on the 18th floor and could hear street noise with my windows closed. But honestly this did not create an issue with falling asleep. Its the city people, did you expect to not hear street noise? LOL
I was woken up once by some people yelling outside but quickly went back to sleep. My overall feeling on the noise issue is this, not really an issue. This is what happens when you stay in a city and honestly the majority of the hotels have this issue. Some newer, with dual pane windows might not, however this did not bug me what so ever.
There were also some complaints about staying near the elevator and vending machines. My room was not near them but to be fair I could see how this would be loud. The vending machine's were pretty loud and I could see that sound traveling into the rooms next to them. My advice, ask to not be placed by them!
Elevators:
I read a lot of complaints about slow elevators but I really had no problems what so ever. I could see maybe a busy weekend or something holding up some of the elevators but overall they were quick enough for me!
So overall this place is not bad, its right in the middle of a lot of great locations. Not to mention you can walk to strip clubs, nice dinning, and or shopping! Overall I'd come back and stay at this location. It was clean, new looking, and had a great staff!
I say go for it!
I come to San Francisco at least once a month for work, and I've never stayed at the Hilton before, but on this trip they offered a great rate that couldn't be beat.
I had a quick and friendly check in. It's clear that the hotel is proud of their renovations as the bell man tells me all about their remodel. I also notice that the Chinese Cultural Center is also located inside the hotel - Cool! (Note to self - try to check that out if you have time.)
This hotel is located right at the edge of Chinatown just a few blocks from some of my favorite restaurants and takes just a few minutes to get to my office - how convenient.
I'm giving the hotel only 3 stars because I did not have face towels and a shower curtain liner in the bath. I called, but they did not come to put up the shower curtain liner till the second night.
I happened to stay in S.F during a time when both Le Meridian and the Embarcadero Hyatt were completely booked, so I decided to give this place a shot. For years I used to pass this place when it was a Holiday Inn, so I didn't have high expectations. The upgrade/re-model was quite a sight for sore eyes. The lobby has a swanky/zen vibe and I was immediately calmed from the herbal aromas wafting into the lobby from the spa. I needed to quickly grab a bite to eat before my afternoon meeting so the concierge quickly led me to the bar, suggested his favorite dish and summoned attentive waiters awaiting my beckoned call. Nice touch.
My default hotel meal is a turkey club on a croissant, which was served with shoe string potatoes and fruit. All were delicious and prepped me well for my meeting.
The room? Totally different story. I attempted to check in twice that afternoon. The first time the computers were down (no big deal), then the second time I was told my room wasn't ready. By the time I finally checked into my room late that evening, the only room they had left was on the 5th floor (No Bay Room view rooms left). I get into the room and it had one of those adjoining doors, which was unlocked. As a single traveler, I hate these rooms, so I called downstairs to switch. No more rooms left.
All of the sudden, my cool refurbished hotel felt like Cabrini Green. I looked out the window at the beautiful view of Coit Tower in the distance, and the neon glow of the strip clubs of Columbus down the street. Across the street I saw 2 guys dressed in black, walking the roof of a building carrying flashlights (what could they be doing at 11:00?). Outside my room was a cacophony of street noises-I heard whistles, then yelling, then honking horns, then sirens, then cursing. I was waiting for the pops...
I felt like Tom Hanks's character in BIG during his first night in the flophouse in the hood. I pushed a nightstand in front of the adjoining door, locked my deadbolt, and prayed for a good night's sleep... Then the delivery trucks started unloading at midnight...
Yes, it could have been much worse. The walls are very thin, but luckily I had quiet neighbors, so all I could hear was folks blowing their noses, and shuffling newspapers (no I'm not kidding).
Heads up, this place is not BART friendly either, so if you have to commute like a local (albeit with luggage), the Hilton isn't for you.
Sure the Hilton is serviceable, but true downtown visitors should stick to Le Meridian or the Embarcadero Hyatt.
Overall, our stay was great. I love the location of this hotel. We walked through China Town, North Beach, the warf and a little through the financial district. Our room was very nice and good sized but the view was of the construction across the street. The majority of the staff was knowledgable and helpful but I did get the feeling that some of them would rather be anywhere else. The wireless internet was fast and easy to connect to.
My biggest complaint was the parking. When I made the reservation, it said that self parking was $30 but we were charged $42 plus tax to our room. When we questioned this we found out that if you charge the parking to your room you can use your room key for in and out use of the garage. The $30 is if you use the ticket you get when you come into the garage and pay through the machine provided by the garage but you can not go in and out. It took talking to three different people to finally get that figured out. The garage is owned by a seperate company and most people in the hotel do not understand how it works. Since we walked everywhere, we asked to have the parking removed from our bill and paid the machine ourselves. It saves around $20 in fees and taxes to do it that way as long as you don't plan on using your car while you are there.
After having regular contact with this hotel over the years, I have to say that this hotel represents an outstanding value and I really like it for meetings, business events and reasonably priced financial district accommodations.
It is one of the most logical, efficient and well run hotels downtown. Tasteful interiors, a good spa (Tru), good food from the dining areas and a very professional and hard working staff. Essentially the sort of service that you would expect from a much more expensive hotel, and there aren't any glaring issues that come with such a value (e.g. hideous interiors, etc).
Great for catered business meetings. Very professional staff.
Terrific location for either business or vacation travelers. Just outside of Chinatown, most of the financial district and Jackson Square is easily accessible by foot. Short, flat, walk to North Beach, Union Square and Ferry Building for tourists.
Only real drawback is that there aren't enough elevators, which means that the wait can be a little longer. But, that's really it.
The last time I stayed here was back in 2007 for my bday weekend. I got a deal on the room through Hotwire. It had been remodeled at the time, and everything was up-to-date...LCD tv, clock w/Ipod connection, wifi, modern bath fixtures, etc. My only qualm at the time was the size of the room. Queen bed, desk, dresser, and side tables, all crammed into the space. No where to lounge. All in all, it was still a good deal.
Fast forward to 2009, T and I are graced by Yelpers, as one of the cutest couples of Yelp. Woo hoo! Our reward...a plush suite at the Hilton after the Tru Spa event. Included in the rewards package...a $100 food/beverage credit, free in-room movie, valet parking, wine and cheese appetizer, and a view to die for.
Had we known they'd be letting us check-in earlier than the Tru Spa event, we'd probably have been there at 3pm. We got there at 6pm and immediately was impressed by the service all around...the valet, the wine bar hostess, the front desk clerks, the bell hops...all were on point and gracious. It was like walking into a 5-star hotel. And this was all before them knowing who we were. The vibe is definitely better here than the downtown location.
As luck would have it, are room was at the top of the hotel...the 27th floor (which happened to be the same floor # we stayed at in Hawaii for our honeymoon in December). Situated in the middle of the floor, we fumbled with the room key and opened up the door to what could've been a penthouse. This room was probably 8x the size of the room I stayed in back in 2007. The living room itself was bigger than T's studio apartment. A nice L-shaped sofa took center stage and was directed at a 42" LG LCD TV. The TV and the Philips mini-audio system, helped set the mood for the evening.
One can't walk any further through the suite without staring out of the wall of windows to see SF in all its glory. The view was absolutely f-ing amazing! We had an unobstructed panoramic view of Coit Tower, St. Peter and Paul Church, Alcatraz, and Columbus Avenue from both sides of our balcony. As it was dusk, everything was lit up and looking all pretty and sparkly. I wish I had a better camera to capture it; the daytime view was equally impressive.
As we made our way through pocket doors to the bedroom, we found a nice Cal-King bed waiting for us, along with a separate shower and tub, which shared the space, but was divided by a nice piece of glass. The tub, although not a Jacuzzi, was very luxurious. I definitely made use of it...twice...since momma T can't soak in the tub til after May. It would've been nice if it was sunken, as getting in and out was a little difficult, but I'm not complaining. The shower had dual shower heads...one standard and the other for the rainfall effect...which was refreshing after the tub soaking. Bath robes and the plethora of towels gave it that spa feeling.
The bathroom itself was separate from everything else. A nice marble counter with Kohler fixtures throughout, gave the place a very modern feel. My only gripe, no ventilation in the lavoratory...which is very, very important to have.
Room service was just what you'd expect from room service...pricey. With tax and gratuity on top of that, we easily used up our $100 food credit on dinner, which we enjoyed after the Tru Spa event in our little dining area off the living room. We were literally ready to move-in here. If only it had a chef's kitchen. But reality set back in, and we had to leave in the morning.
Staying at the Hilton San Francisco Financial District is definitely worth it and reasonable (check out room reservation prices) for a hotel that's geared towards tourist. But don't let the tourist factor sway you. You don't have to be a tourist to stay at the Hilton; you can be a local and equally find enjoyment in all the amenities and services the Hilton provides. I would definitely come back, especially for the panoramic suites. My only gripe about the hotels in SF is parking. Save yourself $50 valet charge and park across the street at the Portsmouth Square Garage overnight instead for half the price or take a cab in.
*Shout out to all of Yelp for giving us the chance to stay here. Wish we would've opened our room to you all to celebrate the evening, but momma T was a little tired from all the pampering going around downstairs and we had to call it an early evening.*

This Hilton was a great location for exploring Chinatown. I got this room for $83/night on http://priceline.com and I would not consider paying full price. The rooms are nice and clean from the recent renovations. However, they are quite small and let in a lot of sound. The beds are super-comfy...well...at least mine was. Check-in and check-out is quick and painless - though we didn't check-in until after 1am. The elevators can be slow in the morning when people are rushing in and out of the hotel. Overall, it provides a great home base for exploring Chinatown, North Beach, Nob Hill, etc.
Beautiful hotel! The view of the bay from my 20th floor window was breathtaking. My room was spacious and clean. The concierge was helpful in directing me to places I wanted to photograph and transportation to get there. From the hotel, I could walk to the Embarcadero, Pier 39, or catch a Double Decker tour bus.
I was annoyed by the nickel and diming for internet, bottles of water, air, but no more than all hotels do it. I was also disappointed that they didn't make a special effort to reduce their environmental impact. They lost a star for that.
HIC-ORY-DIC-ORY-DOC . . . THE MICE DIED WHILE WAITING FOR AN ELEVATOR !!!
If you have ever stayed at the Hilton Financial District . . . you know exactly what I'm talking about. And, we stay here every year for the Chinese New Year celebration weekend. I like the hotel for it's updated style, and the rooms are nice and clean, with excellent SF views. And, you are right smack in the middle of Chinatown Central.
BUT, you had better be prepared for the extreeeeeme wait to catch one of the four elevators. I'm talking 15-20, even 30 minutes. I have yet to figure this phenomenon out. But, EVERYONE complains about it. And, when the elevator finally does arrive at your floor, you had better hire a Chinese subway conductor to use a board and wedge the bodies in for maximum load. . .Ironically, we caught a room service girl in one. She was crammed into the corner holding her tray of coffee which was clearly going to be cold before she ever got to her destination. When asked why she didn't use the hotel service elevators (there are two at the far end of the hotel and YES we considered hijacking one!). She rolled her eyes and said, "believe it or not, this one is faster" . . . HUH??? WHAT???
Odd room configuration issue. The rooms are nicely done, but not exactly functional. Try opening the closet! You have to step aside as the door opens (or back up into the bathroom as the door opens) or you get smacked by the door and the wall. Grab your clothes, and step aside again, because now you are trapped between the closet door and the back wall. Then inside the closet is a low shelf with a safe, which makes all of your clothes drag on the dusty low shelf. . . or is it just that I happen to be over 4 foot 2 ??? The very thin full-length section is occupied by the ironing board and iron, so that's useless.
Reception Desk was a 50/50 and Bell Service was totally unacceptable.
First receptionist was downright rude to me. So, I left, (I can do that) and came back. The second receptionist was wonderfully delightful and helpful (RAMONA). . . someone give that girl a raise . . . $$$
The bags had to be left at the Bell Station for a couple of hours after we had checked out. Upon return, we waited, approximately 25 minutes for ANYONE to even acknowledge that we were standing there, along with about 10 other customers. This kills me . . .there was a girl, in hotel uniform, standing in the Bell Service doorway. For some ridiculous reason, I asked if she could help me. Her response was "uh, no I don't do that stuff". . . then she proceeded to call her BFF on her cell phone. . . someone FIRE that girl . . .
Okie dokie . . . I've had my fill of handing out the pink slips for the day. . .
Just returned from a 4 night stay at this lovely hotel. The staff and concierge were very helpful. It was my first time in the city and they helped me figure out a day plan.
Beds were super comfy, though a little small (we had a double). Bathroom was nice, best shampoo/conditioner ever! Overall, it was great. I would go back.
For parking, park across the street, its $26 vs. $30 (self park) at hotel vs. $54 valet.
Staying here was a surprise retreat from the BF. We stayed here for the weekend and the room was great. The bed was so comfortable and the people working here were all very nice.
The location is great for those avoiding the tourist crowd near Union Sq. Being right across from Chinatown and so close to North Beach, we had great dining and drinking options nearby.
they have recently renovated the entire hotel. It has nice clean modern spacious lounge on the first floor. Check in process is un necessarily tedious as the front desk is under staffed. i have always experienced at least 10 min Wait before i can get my room keys. Rooms are new and clean. Relatively small but proportionately furnished not giving a crammed feeling. If you are a light sleeper avoid this hotel as it is in china town and you will hear garbage trucks noise all night long. There is a parking garage across the street where you can park overnight for half the price.
Due to noise level i will avoid this hotel but otherwise a good place to stay and experience Chinese food and culture
The hotel itself is clean and nicely decorated. The rooms are small but comfortable.
The main reason for my low rating is for the horrible customer service I experienced during my stay. Just based on my interactions with hotel staff- I will never stay here again. From the hotel bell staff to the bartenders to the front desk- each person seemed annoyed, and angry to be at work. No one was helpful, happy or positive.
And this is coming from someone who worked in the hotel industry for many years and who is pretty understanding of how hard the job can sometimes be...I even worked for another Hilton for several years...
But really, the staff here was just above and beyond rude. There is no excuse for eye rolling and an overwhelming attitude of "I hate being at work, my job sucks and how dare you bother me?"
Sorry for asking if I could have towels in my room after getting back from running a marathon and being in desperate need of a shower and finding no towels in my room (the housekeeper took them all). We were told that the hotel "ran out" of towels.
Sorry for wanting to use the lobby restroom after ordering a drink in your bar. (lots of sighs and eye rolls from the front desk- who you have to ask for a key)
Sorry for asking a bellman to hold my bags since my room wasn't ready. (more eye rolls and sighs)
Sorry for asking a bellman to help us get a taxi (We were not going far enough for it to be "worth his time")
Most of all, I am sorry to have given any money to your hotel. next time- I will know better!
I didn't realize this was now a Hilton, until I booked a last-minute getaway here. They were still doing some construction in the lobby area, but the rooms were updated when I stayed there.
The room was nicely appointed, with a super comfy bed, clean, modern bathroom, and a big desk with free WiFi. (It worked just fine for me the whole time.) They have a fitness center, room service, and all the amenities you'd expect.
I read the other reviews that mentioned street noise, but didn't think much of it. You're downtown, not in a cornfield. But it did seem like the windows and walls were especially thin. I can understand hearing the crash of garbage collection from up on the 10th floor, but not every word of the drunkies staggering down the hill from North Beach. Happily, I travel with earplugs, and I figured out how to crank up the polite room fan to help drown out the noise, and I was zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
We stayed here for free with points from the Hilton Honor program. The only problem: $50 for parking! And we got there at 3pm and left the next morning at 5am. Ridiculous!
As for location, the hotel is in the middle of Chinatown. I did not care for the location surrounding the hotel much. But walk a few blocks to the water and it will be all better!!!!
Rooms are nice and clean. Free WIFI with good amenities and essentials for the room as well as bathrobes, which you don't see in hotels that much anymore. The lobby was ok with upgrades being done so a little messy but ok.
We were only here for a short period of time, so we did not use the hotel facilities as much as I would like to.

Final Comment: Free WIFI and good, clean rooms. Do not care for the immediate area around the hotel (our view was of a building with clothes hanging out of their windows). Cheaper hotels around. But Hilton has, overall, good quality and safe hotels.
Stayed here for my birthday weekend and had a great time at this hotel. We got a double room on Priceline and got a great rate of $130 a night which for this location, the quality of the room and the comfy beds were a good deal. The bathrooms with the black granite counter tops were also very nice! The view from our hotel room was gorgeous. We could see part of the bay and the Coit Tower. I loved that we could walk to Chinatown and grab a bite to eat late at night and for Sunday brunch. Also, since we took a Napa wine tour that left from the Ferry building it was easily walkable.
We had drinks at the bar the first night and had a wonderful time relaxing at the bar. The big red chairs were fun and the fire pit was a nice touch. Drinks were a little on the pricey side but hey it's a hotel, I didn't expect anything less.
The only negatives were that the valet parking was $47 but I saw on the side there was a self lot for $25/day which isn't bad (I think this lot belonged to the Hilton too). Also, there is a parking lot across the street (Portsmouth Parking Garage) that you can park at for $26/day.
This is a total lipstick hotel. It's been remodeled so it's clean and nice. But during the remodey they should have redone the windows. The windows and walls are so thin you could hear someone farting on the sidewalk below. If you are looking for a good night sleep I would not recommend this hotel. If you are looking for a hotel that looks nice, has amenities, and has a comfy bed that you won't be able to sleep in I recommend this hotel.
The location is convenient to North Beach and downtown, but not mass transportation. Other hotels have a more convenient location for using Muni and cable cars.
I was booked into this hotel for a training class. It's definitely got a budget-business-traveler vibe as opposed to the posh-business-traveler vibe of Le Meridien. The desk service was decent, but the lobby is small and overcrowded and doesn't have much in the way of restaurant or bar facilities. Drugstores, restaurants and the like are within walking distance and not on terribly steep hills, but it's a significant walk and some of the neighborhoods you may have to traverse are a tad "colorful" as in not looking so hot. The upstairs halls of this hotel look like a Holiday Inn and the rooms, while spacious and light-filled, are furnished like dormitories.
However, there is one thing this hotel has going for it, and that is the views of the bay. About one side of my room was entirely windows with a long, long desk built in. Again, this reminded me of the desk/ window setup in my college dorm, but my dorm never had such a panoramic view of the city, water and hills. This view would easily cost you 500 bucks a night in a luxury hotel and I am dead certain my employer did not fork out anything over 200 a night for my room. I ate room service looking at the view. I did work looking at the view. I saw an entire air show for free looking at the view, with the planes flying from one end of the window to the other doing stunts. I pretty much got my money's worth out of the view the entire time I was in that room. So, if you don't have a ton of money to spend but you want a helluva view and don't care about too many other amenities, go here.
P.S. Make sure you have the address of this hotel to give your taxi driver at the airport, or else he will likely do like mine did and leave you at the wrong Hilton a few blocks away and you will have to pay another cabbie or else have a scenic but hilly hike.
OKay so for the price we paid $209 including taxes and fees the only thing I appreciated was the comforter and the valet service that came with the price.
They really need more people working the front desk.
The rooms are REALLY small.
The off site hotel operator is so weird.
The bellhop never brought out bags up and after half an hour we got up and got them ourselves.
The food at 750 (breakfast at least) is way overpriced and isnt good at all. They need to learn how to use seasonings.
Why is there no fan in the bathroom? I sweated so hard after I took a shower it was ridiculous trying to get ready.
And water at Tullys was $4 something? Get real.
The bar/lounge closed early on NYE? Serious?
The concierge told us there was a shuttle to the Embarcadero. Not true. Instead you get to stand on the street corner and flag a cab down which can take forever.
We ended up walking back from Broadway and Embarcadero to this hotel so location is why they get 2 stars.
I dunno, I wouldnt really recommend this place unless you really just dont care.
Also, come on, can we get free body wash? I dont want to spend $18 on tru spa brand body wash in a huge container. Just bar soap given its from Evelyn Crabtree isnt really that great. Thank goodness I brought my own stuff! :(
I had some of the worst service I have ever experienced from this location! I got married on the 4th of July and I had wanted to go to this hotel and watch the fireworks from a nice suite afterwards. Here are some of the basics on what happened just trying to get the room:
* I called over 12 times to try to get a price on various suites, no one ever even returned my calls.
* I got hung up on twice (they later told me they had 2 power outages... twice????)
* They booked a Jr. Suite when I was trying to rent the presidential suite.
* I called the corporate office to complain and try to get some prices and they didn't do ANYTHING!
* I finally sent my maid of honor out there to view the room and get prices, they let her see some of the room but couldn't give her prices.
* I finally got a hold of the manager, she misquoted me the price!!!
* I didn't actually get my hotel room confirmed until 5 days before the wedding (keep in mind I had been dealing with for 6 months!)
The day of the event (the 4th of July):
We arrived after our wedding with 9 people total. We went up to the suite at 8:30 and we kicked all 7 of our guests out at 10:30... in that short time the Hilton managed to call 5 times, send 3 people up to talk to us and even threatened to call the police on us! We kept asking what the problem was, too many people? Too loud? The music too high? They couldn't tell us. We were not loud at all, just sipping wine and laughing, and it was a holiday in the presidential suite- what a joke! Plus the room didn't even have a balcony (funny how it does in the pictures on the website AND the manager told me there was a balcony).
Overall the room was nice, the view was great but the service was so bad that I would never recommend for anyone to stay here!
Ok only like this hotel since I have fond memories of staying with 3 of my guy friends. I'm pretty sure if I mentioned what happened in the elevator I would be blacklisted from this place so I won't but good times. This place is located in Chinatown and is a few steps away from the HC (Hustler Club) and a whole strip of other strip clubs on Broadway.
Super nice accommodations. Remodeled less than three years ago, the Hilton's got a luxurious, clean, modern feel now. The outside still looks like a Soviet fortress, but who cares? The beds feature beautiful linens, feather beds, down comforters and pillows, and European-style duvets. Everything felt clean and new.
Great service all around, from the parking attendant to the concierge. I thought I was in a major jam when I realized I had forgotten to pack a couple basic personal care items and I didn't have time to run to the drug store before catching a ferry. A quick flip through Hilton's guest book revealed their "Forgot to Pack" service, which offers dozens of toiletries at no cost. Room service delivered my items in five minutes!
My major complaint: *tons* of street noise. Even on the 10th floor we could hear conversations from the sidewalk below, the trash collection early in the morning sounded like it was right outside our window, and when a Harley went by it felt like we were inside the tailpipe. Maybe there is something going on with the outside acoustics here...
This used to be the Holiday Inn!!
i come here just to use their bathrooms, theyre VERY nice, compared to all the other bathrooms in Chinatown. I walk all the way down the hills to use their facilities. The interior is really nice. :D order a drink or something while youre here. They have a Chinese museum somewhere in there too, i think on the 2nd floor.
I've stayed at quite a few places in San Francisco and my high expectations were not met.
$50+ Dollar valet parking?! Are you kidding me?!
TV that had little lines running through it? Blah!
I think the walls at this place is super thin. I stayed here along with 4 of my friends and we were having a brief (non-drunken) conversation in our room prior to dinner at a moderate and someone complained that we were being too loud! This was at 6PM!
Although, the room was a nice size and comfy with all the modern amenities. It was just the little things that killed it for me.
Not enough elevators, door key kept failing (no, it was not my credit card, wallet, or cell phone), and the service is mediocre at best. If it weren't for Priceline, I would not have stayed here and glad I only paid $89 a night. Rack rate would have been a rip off. Parking is $40 a day.
I remember when this was a Holiday Inn. Good location next to Chinatown and North Beach, walking distance to downtown and Embarcadero and Ferry Plaza. Wife and I stayed here one evening without the kids. Rooms were well decorated, but bed took up most of the living space. There was a couch and bed, but not much room to sit on them without hitting the bed.
Be forewarned, soundproofing is not great. Starting around 4AM, the garbage collectors were out, complete with motors running and dumpsters banging away. Brought back memories when I grew up in Chinatown/North Beach area. Well, I was going to get up anyway for a run along the Embaradero anyway.
Can't complain, got a good rate from Priceline.
I stayed here for my recent trip to SF for 6 nights, and picked it because it was conveniently located near Chinatown and also Union SQ. I got a great deal through the Expedia package and had high hopes for the hotel. I was quite impressed with the restaurant in the lobby Seven Fifty, very sheik and reminded me of Hell's Kitchen.
The room was very nice for a double, I liked the business workspace area right by the window and sliding bathroom door. The beds were quite comfortable and clean, which is important. The employees were very hospitable and friendly to me.
For the price and the location, it's hard to beat in my opinion.
I will definitely stay here again.
What a great hotel. The view is spectacular, I mean, the whole wall is made of glass, it's really spectacular.
The beds are sooooo comfy, I got the best night's sleep in this hotel. I mean, I know hotel bedsa re good, but these ones are reeeeeally good.
Also, if you care, it's really secure.. you can't even get into the elevator with out a room card.
What did suck though is the Wifi. I had to go down five floors and sit in the common room to use it, which was very very inconvenient. Staff wasnt very helpful, they basically told me to sit in the common rooms. SO much for the beautiful view from my desk attached to the window.
Location is decent, its right next to Chinatown, a couple blocks from the trolley that'll bring you down the the wharf and about a $10 cab ride to Moscone West (where I needed to be every day while I was there).
I didn't stay here, but since it was such a customer service nightmare I felt that it seriously warranted a review. My friend and her brother booked a double at the Hilton when they came to visit me.
They arrived fairly early (10 am) and were told to come back at noon. They went back at noon, and they were once again told that the room was not ready for them. Being as easygoing as they were, they went to eat and walked around because the staff told them to come back at three o'clock.
At three o'clock, they were told the room was not ready ...... again!
Being the fairly short-tempered person that I am, I thought this was a little ludicrous. 10am, too early, fine. Noon, sure, maybe. 3pm? C'mon. The hotel people could tell they were getting frustrated, so the front desk guy said "oh sure here, take this room."
Which turned out to NOT be a double. Surprise surprise, by the time they walked back down to talk to the front desk guy they saw him bolt out the door, probably figuring that he wouldn't have to deal with them.
Sigh. They said (nicely) that they booked a double, and were told to wait for a bit longer.
Is 1 star too harsh? Yes, maybe. But at the same time, for a hotel like the Hilton that prides itself on being luxury, it only takes one horrid encounter like this for me NOT to recommend this place. There are other hotel options in a city like San Francisco!
Lucky me! I live only three blocks from the Hilton, but I got to stay here for a full weekend. I figured it would be a nice little break from my usual routine, and shacked up with my bf who was in town for meetings. The view from the room is amazing especially at night. Even if you are on a lower floor you can still see a lot of the city.
Saturday morning I ordered room service and looked forward to a much needed breakfast in bed. $43 dollars later I had an eggs benedict and a large bloody mary in hand. The food was pretty good, but nothing too special. The drink was fresh and seemed to be home made and not just a mix. Too bad it cost $16.... oh well. When in Rome.
Lastly, the bed was like a cloud. A big down cloud. I loved it.
