4.5 stars.
Nice service, nice clean rooms, decent view. Nothing fancy. Good location in the middle of Portland downtown and within walking distance of lots of shopping and restaurants. Good pricing as well... would definitely stay here again!
Very nice hotel in the heart of downtown Portland. Just one block from Pioneer Square. Served by 3 of the Maxx light rail lines. Very good location.
I stayed in the original hotel (not the new towers). Rooms were updated, very clean, and did have some nice extras like bottled water, coffee maker, etc. in the room. Beds were very plush and comfortable.
Staff was friendly and always greeted me when I went by. Excellent fitness center on the Plaza Level. Got a free copy of USA today each day I was there.
Very nice place. Would stay again on a future visit to Portland.
This is a basic downtown Hilton, which is feeling its age (aren't we all) and is more than a little ripe for a makeover. However, the staff is very nice, and right now the price is right, especially if you are booking a block of rooms for a big event.
They have some unusual features that you would more likely find in a Hampton Inn than a downtown hotel - irons and ironing boards in the room, free bottled water, and an in-room coffeemaker. Of course, you can take care of all of these services within the hotel, but it's nice to have them available in the comfort of your room.
Hilton beds are among the best in the hotel industry, and these are no exception.
They have a full health club and restaurant, and the location is ideal - near all train lines and within walking distance of shops and restaurants.
The private rooms work well for weddings or other big events, and feature beautiful views of the city. The staff was nice and efficient, and my brother's wedding went smoothly - what more could we ask for?
I happened to get a corner room, way upstairs--and I have to say it was wonderful. Great location. Walking distaince to restaurants, micorbreweries, downtown sites, railway station. Good times.
I've stayed at the Hilton Executive Tower many times on business and never been disappointed.
Ok, this Hilton review is for the non-Executive Tower. There are 2 Hiltons directly across the street from one another. I stayed in the other one, but alas, I cannot tell if they are considered the same "hotel" or not.
Whatever the case may be, here goes.
Amazing beds! They're super plush and cozy, like my favorites at any Westin. The staff wasn't uppity, as I have had to deal with lately at other places, the place is gorgeous and well-positioned in gorgeous Portland's downtown area. It's within walking distance of many fun things to check out while in Portland (Voodoo Donuts, I didn't do, but am kicking myself for, and Powell's book store--a definite must) and an area that feels similar to Union Square in San Francisco. The light rails can get you straight from the airport in a comfortable manner for about $2.30. Really? Yeah...
If I didn't love San Francisco so much, I'd seriously consider moving to Portland.
This hotel easily accommodated a large conference I attended this past weekend. We had nearly 250 guests, used all their conference rooms and nearly all of us stayed in the hotel itself. I never checked out the gym or pool, but hear that the Executive Tower Hilton (across the street) has the better one. That's hearsay though.
The bathrooms are tiny and though cute, the experience is a bit odd. The toilets are a ceramic version of an air plan toilet. It's short, stuck in a corner and if you're more than 200 pounds of pure American stock, you may feel like a fat man in a Fiat. I'm just under that, but still felt crammed. The rest is doable and the views are great. Portland offers gorgeous views in all directions, so long as you're above about the 7th floor. I was up on the 19th, so I had it made.
Great hotel, elegant and cheap! When we complained about the noise in our room (something about a water pipe going up to the roof), the staff bent over backwards to make us happy, giving us a suite as the standard rooms were all full for a wedding, and comping us a breakfast. Really made our stay in Portland special. Very well managed, kudos guys, keep it up!
This is a review of the older, main hotel, not the executive tower. For $20/night more, you can stay at the more modern shiny executive tower. The lobby is somewhat small considering it's a Hilton. It's got an old school charm.
Im used to bigger rooms for Hiltons but our room was alright. I definitely felt claustrophobic in the bathroom. The ceiling was peeling. However, the bed was super comfy. The furniture needs to be updated and upgraded. No flatscreen TV. The walls and windows are super thin. So beware. You will hear all the drunkards singing in the middle of the night as they leave the bars.
The one highlight of this Hilton is its easy accessiblity to all the shops and restaurants in downtown PDX. Don't bother parking in lots, parking is pretty easy to find on the streets.
The Executive Tower room I had was very nice. Large flat-screen TV, clean room, nice mini-bar etc. Overall, a very good location. Checking in was a little confusing, as I did not know the tower was across the street from the main Hilton, but now that I know, I will not make that mistage again.
Got room service this time due to the late hour I got in, and it was pretty good. I am not sure what they could do to make it a 5, but I just don't think anything less than a Four-Seasons deserves a 5 at any rate.
Enjoy!
My friend and I got a pretty damn good deal on a room here. The location is fantastic...close to everything downtown. Parking costs an additional $20/night and they have two lots to accommodate their guests.
There are two gyms: one costs $10/day and the other is complementary on the 11th floor. There are no free weights in the free gym, but there are 3 ellipticals, two treadmills, 4 bikes (two of each type) and it's CLEAN. Seriously, the hygienic value placed on this room is high and I LOVE that.
The room we stayed in was pretty basic, but the beds were super comfy. I'm the type of person who likes lots of pillows and a squishy comforter.
There's not much in terms of a view, but who cares? Location, location, location.
What can I say? It's a Hilton. It's the McDonald's of hotel chains. You generally know what you're going to get when you stay at a Hilton. They're everywhere. Usually well located. And newer locations are better than old ones. "Service" is minimal.
I've only stayed in the "Executive Tower" section - the newer building located caddy-corner from the original 1960's era tower. The lobby is non-descript. The rooms are a reasonable size and the bathrooms are ok. The bed was comfy. I did have a problem getting hot water in the shower - it took literally 5 minutes to heat up. Despite the dismal economy, the room was still $179/night - a little pricey for what you get. Clearly, they're depending on business travellers like myself.
Overall, it's fine. Great location and I got my HHonors points.
What a pleasant surprise this hotel turned out to be! As stated by all the other yelpers, the location here is prime. Just two blocks from Pioneer Place and a hop, skip and jump away from the super clean and efficient metro stop, this hotel has one of the most convenient locations of a hotel in any major city I've been. It's centrally located in the heart of downtown Portland in a very clean, safe, well-lit area (I had no problems walking around in the middle of the night).
The room was a great size. Clean, spacious, comfy. The newly renovated bathroom was extremely nice and had everything I wanted and needed. The best part of the room was the unbelievable view of the city. We had a corner room and it just overlooked everything. Big ups!
The hotel also offers a pretty decent athletic club that you can use for a nominal fee. The gym was on the small scale though, but was clean and very well-run. They also have a convenient indoor pool and whirlpool but it tends to get crowded during the busy hours (10am through 5pm).
I'd most definitely stay here again. They have an unbeatable combo package of location, comfort, style and value that any traveler would want.
Sweet!
This has been my second time staying here and it never fails to disappoint.
After a scrumptuous dinner in La Bucca, all I'm aiming for is a soft bed. And oh did it satisfy my power nap!
The room was spacious and the amenities within an arms reach. You can look at the other skyscrapers (eah, who am i kidding here) in downtown when you look at the window.
Walk a few blocks away and you're either at the Tom McCall waterfront or the Pioneer Square. Pick one or do a morning walk. It's fun.
If that isn't your thing, shopping starts at 1030AM which is a few blocks away as well. Niketown is infront if you forgot your workout attire.
Grab breakfast either with the hotel or hop out for a cup of joe.
Parking is reasonable and can be found at almost any of the 4 sides of the hotel.
Excellent location. Able to walk just about everywhere, and the drive to the Hawthorne Dist is right over the bridge.
I booked the room through Hotwire and they had given me 2 double beds. When I was asked if that was OK, I shrugged and the clerk asked if I'd prefer a King. I said yes. Then she asked what floor I wanted to be on. I said I didn't have a preference. We ended up on 17th, with a beautiful view. I would've been satisfied with double beds in the basement, but they clearly wanted me to enjoy my stay.
Minus one star for their in-house dining. The Bistro downstairs looked like a beefed up buffet, and I didn't feel the urge to check it out. I wish there were more indie coffee shops nearby, but that's not the fault of the hotel.
Overall, I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. It's not as cute as a boutique hotel or as charming as, say, The Benson, but it's clean, quiet and the beds are super comfy. The rest is icing on the cake.
There was nothing exceptional about the hotel, and it was not cheap either. The rooms were a decent size, but they've got the standard flower bedspread deal going, so it feels a little old school. They do have an indoor pool, which is pretty nice. It's also very conveniently located in the middle of downtown.
Two major cons:
1) They charge for wifi. 2) They've got a bunch of stuff about their eco-certification in the book, but there is absolutely NO EVIDENCE that they do anything eco-conscious. The description said they provide recycling - no such thing. They mentioned towel replacement service is up to guest - maid took replaced my towels each day.
Overall, despite the fact that I had no complaints about my stay, I would probably pick Hotel Lucia for my next stay instead.
All I've got to say is that a suggestive film titled "Quick and Nasty" may or may not have been ordered during the Yeep after-party in room 2065 and within ten minutes of accepting the $16 charge, an updated copy of the room bill was slipped under the door.
Either the front desk staff had nothing to do, or....they....had...nothing to do. I've never seen that happen before but I thought it hilarious.
(In my own defense, I've never ordered a suggestive film in a hotel room either. Really, I haven't. My company won't pay for it. HA.)

Alright, a few minutes later I've decided to come clean. I once ordered the free adult vid on a work trip in Denver which turned out to be a hilarious spoof on adult videos and at the end, featured a password to receive a discount in the restaurant/bar. The password worked but you had to live with the smirks from the staff - they knew where you got it.
Can't complain really. I booked same day and scored a room MUCH cheaper than everywhere else I checked and it was St. Patty's weekend. Not only that, but my Hilton Honors membership scored me a room on the top floor. The check-in was quick. The parking, while expensive, wasn't outrageous. They gave free continental breakfast action but I did not partake.
This is where my critique may be a wee bit hypocritical...WTF is up with your security Hilton? Me and some Yeeps had a party up in here until the wee hours and not a single one of you came back to break it up and tell us to quiet down. I know someone in a room next door had to be seriously pissed...or maybe entertained...who the hell knows...must've been the latter...or they just took some Ambien and wore earmuffs...who the hell knows.
Comfy bed, nice toiletries, awesome shower, spacious enough, cool recliner chair...not only that, but the TV was also an "ATM Machine".......guess you had to be there.
Well done Hilton.
This is a nice place to stay for a quick get away from the summer heat. Great location close to good dining, coffee, transportation, parks and shopping. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The room was sort of small but nice and comfortable with a nice view.
It must be a nice place as I am not a Hilton fan. I have no desire to support a family of such vapid folks.
Great location!! The hotel is just a block and a half from the Pioneer Square Max Light Rail stop, so it's super easy to get to/from the airport or other Portland hot spots.
I was a little worried at first, because on Google Maps it looks like the Hilton is off in Downtown Boonyville, but it's really centrally located. Plus, Portland is a great town for walking & public transportation is free in the downtown area.
Our room was small, but the bed was SUPER comfortable. Staff was extremely helpful and very nice. I booked the room on Priceline for $70/night (for Friday through Monday).
Priceline doesn't allow you to select room type (bed size, smoking/non-smoking) if you bid, but when we checked in we were able to switch from 2 twins to king/non-smoking on the 17th floor.
The hotel has free pool/hot tub, and for reasonable prices you can use the small fitness room or get spa treatments. Tanning is $5 per session.
Staff suggests that you don't park in their garage, sounds pricey. There's a charge for internet, but Boyd's & other coffee shops that are nearby offer free wifi.
I have stayed here on several occasions and as a Hilton Honors Platinum member have stayed at both the executive tower and the "main" tower. The executive tower seems more contemporary and nicer in the lobby area, the "main" tower area seems dated mid-90s feel to it. Once you get to your room they are both really nice rooms and I usually have a really nice view to boot. My only complaint on service is on the "main" side, on my last visit when I pulled in to check-in and do my own parking because of personal reasons the valet was all "you are in my valet area" so I was directed to the other loading/unloading area on the other side of the hotel. I had to end up parking in the executive tower for some reason, and the valet ended up holding my bags, and didn't bring them to me in my suite. But because I am a platnium member they usually upgrade my room and once they even put me up in the Governor's Suite but it wasn't as next as other Hilton/Hyatt/Renaissance hotel suites.
This place really is "as good as it gets." When my son and I arrived, there was a low hum in our room--a vibrating water pipe of some kind. When we called the front dest, an engineer came to the room and immediately made arrangements for us to be put up in a lovely suite in the Executive Tower with a buffet breakfast thrown in. The suite was luxurious and quiet and included every aminity. It was a fabulous experience. I would recommend this hotel without qualification.
Best room service at any Hilton ever, but you need to be in the Executive Tower to have access to the amazing Italian menu.
Insanely friendly staff, from the door men to the room service delivery guys - I especially love the fellow with the Irish accent, total sweetheart. I've called ahead and asked for something to be picked up and placed in my room for me knowing I'd arrive after hours (cigarettes) and they help out with a smile. No request is to large - they have always bent over backwards to take care of me. Another Hilton that does not have a nightly Honors reception, but hey, who can get drunk on a work night anyway?
Rooms are beautiful, clean, and well laid out. Bathrooms recently rehabbed - quite nice. Bonus - they still have a few smoking rooms!!!!!! Yay!!!!!
I love this hotel like you wouldn't believe. One of my single favorite Hiltons in the US.
Ok I almost take back what I said about the Hilton towers in SF
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I said almost.....
This particular branch in the Hilton chain is a bit bizzare because oh yeah, half the hotel is across the street from the other but I do digress!
Soft, fluffy magical beds that transport you to happy land. Ah.....it's like sinking into a giant marshmallow.
My boyfriend's mom (who is by nature a light sleeper) slept for 11 hours solid here. She was SO cheery from her peaceful slumber I almost envied her (I went out to play the previous night with her son, the foremontioned honeyman). I wouldn't have woken up as early as I did had I not received a swift kick to the back at 10 to 9 in the am (thanks babe). But my sleepytime was greatly appreciated having spent 12 hours on the road the day prior to crashing. The hours I spent stacking ZZ's were good ones.
The bathroom was luxurious in its own way plus if you are one of those people who gank every product at the hotel they have Crabtree and Evelyn as their house brand!
The staff are BY FAR some of the most attentive I have ever encountered at any hotel. The valet drew me and the honeyman a map of downtown Portland marking off places to check out. I love how he assessed us by deteremining "could I have a beer with these people?" before delving into the request we had for him.
Yeah and considering it's on Hotwire as a 3.5 star hotel in downtown Portland for under $100 sometimes, it's SO worth it!
THANK YOU FOR A GREAT STAY!!!!!!!!!!
I have to give this place a HUGE shout out. The room was SWEET and very nice, but it was the doorman and valet guy that made this place great.
After checking in and a VERY long drive, honey lady and I NEEDED, oh god we needed some where to get a cold one.
So I asked the door guy where to go and get a good cold one. He looked at me for a sec, kinda " seeing " me, in a sence, and told us to go 1 block up, and 2 down and we'ed hit his favorit spot.... Virgina Cafe,( see review).
But the valet guy made it just a wee bit more sweet for us by taking out a map and circling his fav places to go with in walking distance of the hotel.
I stayed here recently for a conference I was attending in Portland. The hotel is located right downtown, and within easy walking distance of great restaurants and bars. Our room was clean, but the bathroom was a bit of a disaster - although it looks like they're remodeling the bathrooms, floor by floor, which is great. We were on the 16th floor, and had gorgeous views of the hills and of a more residential section of downtown.
For you conference go-ers, the meeting space was nice - with windows! which is always a bonus, rather than meeting in a windowless cave for hours on end. The catered meeting food was fresh and delicious, and the hotel even offered vegan options, which was appreciated.
As the other reviewer noted, it's really surprising that the gym isn't included in the price of the hotel. It's a bit ridiculous that they would charge a fee.
++ Views are great
++ Rooms are clean
++ Location is fab
++ Chicks dig the beds
-- Nothing is paid for - even the fitness center
-- Gym sucks
-- Pool sucks
-- Front desk attendent think she owns the place
What a great hotel! Perfect location near Pioneer Square, in the heart of the shopping district, a multitude of restaurants, and access to MAX light rail and the Portland streetcar. Rates are reasonable, but be sure to book a room in the Executive Tower where rooms are newer, cleaner, and have good views.
This was a good all-around experience during one of our trips to the PDX area. The room was nice, clean, smoke-free, and magically away from noisy people. We will consider staying here again.
Stayed here for my first visit to Portland. The hotel is centrally located. Nike town and downtown shopping, pioneer square, and the pearl district are all walking distance nearby. The rooms are pretty comfy - bed where very comfortable. Staff was very friendly. Bathrooms are updated and remodeled. Great views and you can even open the windows and take in the city sounds.
eeeeh... meh.
bathroom was tiny, room was cramped with all of the furniture, room service often tasted like it was just heated up instead of made fresh, have to pay to use the gym ($10 a day or $15 for couples), have to pay for internet (and no wireless is available, so you're tethered to the desk), parking is $20 a day......but people were generally helpful and courteous and the location is pretty ideal.
VERY nice place. Reasonable for location. Clean room....but the service was just ok. I will try the embassy suites next time just to see what they are like.
Wow. I thought that the days of getting great service at a large chain hotel was well past me. Glad to see that I am wrong. Upon our late night check in, we asked if the room's sheets and blankets had been changed to down free. Since nobody had made a note of it, housekeeping came up late night to change all the bedding althoguh it turned out our request had already been accommodated. Location here could not be any better: you are in the middle of downtown Portland, well within walking distance of great shopping and terrific restaurants. Room service was very professional and the food was very, very good. We've stayed at both the Executive Tower and the Hilton Portland (located kitty corner from one another) and have never found any reason to stay elsewhere on our visits to Portland.
